MAJOR Miami Dolphins Rumors After Kader Kohou Injury: Big Move Coming?
Are the Miami Dolphins about to make a big move? Well, we know that Kater Co, who has a severe injury and Miami secondary looks to be a little thin right now, so it would make sense that Chris Greer in this front office would look to add another corner. Obviously, they signed Jack Jones and Mike Hilton last Saturday, but I think that was before they officially knew how severe this Kater Coo injury actually was, and I do believe with the cap space they currently have, they could look to make another move. Now, if you are unaware and did not watch the video we put out earlier today, it’s why you got to be subscribed, by the way, it was reported by Adam Shfter and announced by Mike McDaniel, that Kater Kohu is going to be out for the year with a knee injury. Now, it was revealed it was a partially torn ACL, which is a tough one for Kater because he’s on a one-year deal. And with a partially torn ACL, you could technically not get surgery and try to just rehab naturally from it and maybe even return during the season. But he opts to preserve himself longterm, get the surgery, and take himself out of the 2025 season. And with Kater Coo out for the year, the secondary just simply is not in a good spot. It wasn’t in a good spot coming into Dolphins training camp. Kohu was your best corner when things got underway in the 305 and with him out like you just got a whole band of misfits right now. Secondyear UDFA Storm Duck, you signed Jack Jones and Mike Hilton. Hilton’s going to be your starting nickel corner which he has been a very serviceable and above average nickel corner for most of his career specifically over the last four or five years spanning between Cincinnati and the Pittsburgh Steelers. But look at that depth. The depth is not good. Cam Smith stinks. Ethan Bonner has not had a good camp so far. You’ve got injuries to so many different players like Arty Burns, BJ Adams, and when you factor in the safety room being banged up with Efatum, Malafanu and Ashton Davis, too. This back five on this defense is just not in a good spot. And with Mike, I do want to make this clear. I do believe that he is a very solid replacement. We looked at the numbers on this show earlier today and yes, Kater co is a better nickel and corner at this stage in his career than Mike Hilton is. I would say Mike Hilton’s peak about four or five years ago was probably higher than Kater Co who’s ever was at this point. But Mike Hill’s serviceable and I’m fine with him being the replacement. But there’s a lot of buzz that Miami after signing Hilton was actually planning on Kohou and Mike Hilton playing together with Hilton being in the slot. Kohu being on the outside with one of Storm Duck, Cam Smith, or one of these other guys. And we’ve seen Kater Koh play outside more than I think we anticipate. We label him as a slot nickel corner which that is his role. That’s where he’s played most of his snaps, 1500 of them. But he’s played another 700 snaps as the boundary corner. Did a lot of it last season, mixed around. He’s a versatile DB. So when you’re losing Kohou, yes, you think nickel, you think slot, but I think we also have to factor in, well, this is someone that can play outside a little bit as well. And if the plan was actually to play Kater Kohu and Mike Hilton together on the football field with one of them in the slot, one of them on the outside, it makes me feel as if Miami needs to go out and sign another quarterback even more. I don’t mind the Jack Jones signing. It’s a high upside swing. I like the Mike Hilton move, but with some solid names still out there in free agency, Miami should absolutely be taking a look. And that’s why I think a big move could be coming since Miami does have $11 million in cap space as we’re currently sitting. This is the pin comment on today’s show and I’m going to go look in every reply to pin comment and respond. So get your voice heard on this pin comment. Do the Dolphins need to sign a cornerback? Type wifrey, type in for no. I’m going to be looking on what you guys have to say. Well, I think they do. And if they do go out and sign one, I think it’s likely going to be these four guys that we’ll talk about. The number one player is going to be Rousul Douglas, the 30-year-old corner. Why? It’s because Miami has just had so much communication with him throughout the entire off season. He visited Dolphins headquarters in late April and early May. Miami offered him a contract. He said no. They apparently offered him another contract last week. This is a player Miami has been in constant contact with all offseason long. He had an up and down couple years in Buffalo in 2023. He was traded mid-season from Green Bay to the Bills and was absolutely unbelievably good for the Buffalo Bills in the second half of that year, but last season he really struggled. They had him playing more man than ever. That’s not his role. He’s his own corner and his numbers took a hit. He was not good in coverage whatsoever. And even though I’ve labeled him as the number one free agent target for Miami, I do find it incredibly unlikely he’s the one that ultimately gets signed. Why? is because what I mentioned just a second ago, he has declined multiple multiple contract offers from Miami. Josina Anderson reported that he’s got multiple offers from other teams. So, he’s trying to leverage these offers and interest into a larger contract. Miami obviously doesn’t have a lot of space. Probably looking to get Russell Douglas at their price point and Douglas isn’t budging. And it seems if this interest from across the league is true, he probably won’t budge at all. So, I’m putting Rul Douglas as the number one guy. Miami wants to sign, but in terms of likelihood, I think that’s going downhill. Number two is actually another veteran here, and I’m going to put Stfan Gilmore, the 34year-old corner, the former defensive player of the year, as the potential second target for Miami, and he’s above Asante Samuel Jr. due to some health concerns. We’ll talk more about Asante here in a second, but Stefan Gilmore and the idea of signing him is actually growing on me more and more. Yes, he’s 34 years old and Miami has made a massive effort to get more youthful this season and Gilmore would be the complete opposite of that at this point. You just need to have bodies out there and you need to put together a competitive secondary because if you just have an average secondary this season, you are going to have a top 10 defense with how good this linebacker duo is, with how good this front five is with Chub, Cha, Phillips, Kenneth Grant, and Zack Cer. Like, if you can just put together an average secondary, this defense is going to be phenomenal. when you mix in the physicality up front with the backend guys. And I think Gilmore provides more value than just his play. And if you looked at the numbers on screen a second ago, his numbers weren’t actually that bad. Has he lost a step? Absolutely. But he put up better numbers last year than Rasul Douglas, that’s for sure. I mean, it’s a difference of about 25 in QB rating when targeted. Like Gilmore can still play. But another reason why I enjoy the idea of him coming around to Miami is because he’ll be able to mentor these young guys like Storm Duck, Cam Smith, if he’s still on the roster. He can help mentor Jack Jones as well. Can’t forget about the rookie fifth round pick Jason Marshall Jr. He’ll teach some of these guys the tape, what they need to be doing, how to carry themselves. Like there’s more value than just his play on the field, but the play on the field is still at least probably a CB2. Join the channel for daily coverage. The third corner we’re going to talk about is Asante Samuel Jr., the youngest guy that we’re talking about here, the 25-year-old former second round pick out of Florida State. the player that I have been pounding my fist on the table for Miami to sign really ever since May. And I am surprised he hasn’t been signed to this point because when you factor in age and upside, Asante Samuel Jr. is without a question the best corner still available in the NFL for agency. This is a guy that’s been a day one boundary starter since being drafted by the Chargers. He’s played in 50 games. The issue with Asante Samuel Jr. is his health. Not only currently, but in the past, he’s missed a lot of ball games. But when he’s on the football field, he can absolutely play. He actually is better in man than zone, which is interesting because there’s not many corners this day and age that are man specialist. Asante Samuel Jr. I would label as one of those guys. And the only reason why he is still on the market, he is still unsigned. I think it has to be because this injury that he has that he’s recovering from is just significantly worse than we originally thought. Remember the Jeremy Fowler tweet from late May, early June that he was going to have a medical checkup on that neck and shoulder that he got surgery on in late April and once he was cleared, teams could sign him. Well, we’re basically into August and he’s still unsigned. Did that medical checkup not go well? Did it not happen yet? Like it mum has been the word. Like why haven’t we heard anything about this? And if it’s not going well, well then maybe that’s why Miami and other teams aren’t signing him. But the Dolphins have been in contact with him throughout the offseason. Final corner we’re talking about, James Bradberry, the 31-year-old. And this is a player that probably goes a little bit underneath the radar in terms of Dolphins cornerback targets. Barry Jackson reported in May that Miami had interest and reached out to Bradberry at least once. Now, if I’m going to be completely honest, I couldn’t be more out on signing James Bradberry when you compare him to some of these other corners. Like, I would place him in a distant distant four behind these other three that we talked about on today’s show. Why? Well, he was basically retired last season. He didn’t play a game. He didn’t got hurt early. He was a cut candidate for the Philadelphia Eagles. Got hurt, didn’t play, was supposed to come back in the early part of the second half of the season around week 10, week 11, week 12, but just never did. So, he hasn’t played football since 2023. And fun fact, he was one of the worst corners in football in 2023. It’s the reason why he was a cut candidate heading into Eagles training camp a year ago. So, he hasn’t played football in two years or since 2023. So, basically two years. and he was terrible when he was doing it. I’m good. Don’t give me James Bradberry. But let me know which quarterback do you want to sign? James Bradberry probably be the cheapest. Are you cheaping out? You going over after him? Are you going after one of these other threes? Or maybe there’s another corner on the market that I did not put on today’s show. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section. I’ve always asked that question and then answered it myself with Asante Samuel Jr. I am no longer going to answer that way. I’ll go with Stefan Gilmore. I’ll take the veteran 34 year old. I’ll take the leadership. I’ll take his ability to mentor some of these young guys on the Dolphins roster. And you already committed to making your cornerback room a little bit older when you sign Mike Hill. So, I have no issue with giving Stfan Gilmore a one-year deal. Kind of taking a gap year at the cornerback position if we’re going to be honest. And then when we go to next off season, then when we have a little bit more cap space, we have, I don’t know, maybe a higher draft pick than 13. It’s certainly possible if the secondary sucks. And you address corner that way or you just address it in the first two rounds next year. So, I feel like we’re taking a gap year at corner, which is why I’m fine with signing Gilmore to a one-year deal. Hilton will be gone next year. Gilmore will be gone next year, and then you’re going to probably just have a really young cornerback room in 2026. And before we round out today’s show, I still want to make this point. Noah Fant is still a free agent. I still want to sign Noah Fant. Cornerback is definitely a bigger need, especially with the Kater Coo injury, but tight end is brutal. Julian Hill has been terrible in his career. He was not good at training camp so far than the first week as well. Like he has really, really struggled. Frell Brown, I can’t trust him for that much. And then Darren Waller hasn’t played football in a year and he hasn’t even practicing. I mean, the tight end room is abysmal. So, if you can sign Noah Fant, I would probably look to do so still, even with cornerback being a need. But, if we’re going to be honest, I want to do both. Corner takes priority. But, it would behoove Miami in a massive way if they could sign Noah Fant and add one of these veteran corners as well. they do that, I’ll feel pretty damn good about this team heading into the regular season as they take on the Colts in early September. That’ll do it for today’s show. As always, we’re going to bring you more content tomorrow. Do the Dolphins need to sign a CB? Type ‘Y’ for Yes or ‘N’ for No
I’m not as worried about TE because we have one of the most loaded teams at WR . TE isn’t going to be targeted like last season because the team is being built to be physical. They just need one more veteran outside corner and save some cap money to keep guys like Seiler, Brooks and AJ
YYYYYYY
What about Fuller?
When will they cut Kyle Johnston , more an more players getting hurt every year. Maybe its time to look at the Head Athletic Trainer. Are there better trainers out there? Or are they all the same? He's been there since 2018 . Way too long!
Y!!!!!!!!!!!
I say go for Gilmore on a 1 yr deal.
Yes
Not Douglas!!!!!!!!!!🤬
YYYYYYYYY
Grier needs to be fired, don't let him waste any more future picks.
This just goes to show you it’s not who you sign, it’s the next man up. That goes for every position. It’s hard for an NFL player to play every game. Period!!! 25–35% of players make it through all regular-season games without missing any.
Y, Absolutely, not Douglas, maybe AS Jr. Injuries have been our motto the past 4 years!!💯🎯🤦🏽
Samuel, Gilmore. Douglas is just trying to milk someone and suck in the process!!!!!!!
I’m waiting for my daily out for the season notification from Thunderdome training camp. LOL
Y
We damn well need to get Fant. Broncos were dumb to send him to Seattle. Better get him Grier and McDaniels… no matter what !!
There's no question they need another CB? Never making it to January with what we have currently
Y
Yes, absolutely.
Great video Nic but as we all mentioned we need two Cornerbacks but Jackass Grier always has know depth in secondary and offensive line, sign Gilmore and Samuel screw Douglas
Hilton is very physical, better against the run than Kader.
XAVIEN HOWARD IS A NO-BRAINER!
Y
We can't win one my boy.
Yes no doubt
Should have been done, like yesterday !
Cam Smith. Really screwed the Dolphins
Depends who fits Weaver’s system
Yes
Yes of course sign 2 CB
Those x Bills players come to Miami and screw us with the way they play. It's like thier heart is still in Buffalo and want us to lose.Look at that safety we signed from Buffalo last year
🐬 secondary will be good, especially with the front 7 being healthier and dominant!!!!
Yes we need 2 more CB's!!!
Y
Y
Sign Gilmore. 🙏🏾
Dude dolphins need to prioritize corners!!!! Our defense has constantly been a problem deep into the season.
Y
Xavier Howard?
Rasul Douglas, Asante Samuel or 35 year old Stephon Gilmore. That’s our choices folks, give Douglas $8mn + incentives. It’s the best offer he’ll get even though he’s dissed the Fins in the press. Or Samuel at $7mn + incentives. Knowing Grier he’ll go with the inexpensive z Gilmore option (aka “cheap”, in hopes that Chop, Chubb, Phillips and blitzing corners will put enough pressure on the QB’s to force the ball out of their hands fast, making mistakes. Wishful thinking but I feel it’s the best opportunity we’ve got. Unfortunately Miami is banking on a mix of one-year stopgaps and long-term projects in the secondary on a defense that features 3 former first-round edge rushers up front albeit 2 coming off major injuries.
Y
Kohou sucked anyway
Extend Sieler, sign Fant, and sign one of Asante Samuel jr or Kendall Fuller or trade for Greg Newsome
