A good trade for rebuilding team. Makes me think that Vegas time line is a few more years away than claimed though.
Edit: for the down votes. I still don’t actually like losing Miller. Was just highlighting value of long term SS vs a reliever for a team in a full rebuild. Which admittedly we shouldn’t really be doing but clearly are. FJF forever and hoping Vegas shit fails so hard he is forced to sell. But this move just screams to me more delays in their moving plans.

De Vries is top 3 prospect in baseball. The padres don’t need more pitching, they need a catcher, a left fielder and bats. This was a shit trade my Preller.

So does that mean Jacob Wilson will be moved to another position? You don’t get the top #3 prospect in MLB to change his position. You also don’t draft Wilson to move him either. I reluctantly applaud them for getting a top prospect in baseball but this is exactly the type of move the Oakland Athletics made. Wasn’t the whole mantra once they left that things would be different? Miller was considered untouchable last year.
If you’ve been watching the a’s for any period of time, you know that closers are replaceable. The A’s don’t value them. Hate to say it, but This shouldn’t come as a surprise.

No one can be surprised. As long as FJF is the owner this is exactly how it will work. It’s not going to change IF/when the Vegas move happens. There will always be no commitment to locking down young talent or paying for quality free agents. I fully expect to see Kurtz and Wilson in other colors before they ever play a game in their Vegas stadium.
Got a nice haul back. Don’t really need a lights out closer until you’re a contender. Sucks when you get attached to a player, but another guy will pop up out of nowhere.

As great as Miller is. He’s a closer. Closer come and go very quickly and it wasn’t that long ago he was an injury problem. They got an absolute haul for him and sears. #3 prospects don’t usually get moved for a closer and mid at best starter.
At least two guys escaped the 💩 ownership. They have to be so excited to return to a major league team. Sure there are a few more who dream of being traded.

I’ve been an A’s fan my whole life and have continued to follow them despite moving to Boston 13 years ago. This move has me thinking it’s time to throw in the towel and just get a Red Sox hat and a bottle of something cheap. I am no longer equipped to handle people asking me how I do it when I walk around with my A’s hat on.
Brace for it…. Butler and Rooker will be gone soon too
Not gonna lie. I will accept this trade only bc there’s no chance we will make it to the playoffs within the next couple years and our farm system is pretty depleted and we critically need more pitching prospects plus we were able to get the 3rds best prospect in the MLB. I’m assuming the A’s are setting down foundation for the team when they move to Vegas. It’s unrealistic our current squad will be retained when we move like any other team.
The Padres are immensely more likable, if you can actually still stomach MLB.
Padres fan here. I’m afraid you guys fleeced us here. DeVries is going to be a star and the other pitchers we threw in are all talented.
We’re not happy down here south of you guys.
Hopefully this works out for both teams, but I think you guys are going to be really happy in two to three years.
