I am once again, asking Jed to do something

  1. There’s still plenty of time, but yeah it would make no sense to rent Tucker and then not fill your glaring holes at the deadline. I worry that Jed got his extension specifically so he would pull back and not trade the farm to win this year and force Ricketts hand

  2. Phillies and Padres making World Series moves and Cubs fans are sat on here debating whether Michael Soroka will replace Chris Flexen or Colin Rea. No one has it worse than us right now!

  3. All I want is a starter or 2 but a number 1 or 2 starter because we got enough 4,5 rotation starters already

  4. Still got Cabrera, Merrill Kelly, Cease, Severino, and Keller available. I’m hoping for one of these kids, but really don’t want to overpay.

  5. Padres aren’t done – and if they are going to add Kwan too (which they’re looking to do) they’re going to move Cease and/or Suarez to get some prospects and leverage back

  6. I have hope that Jed is going to do something noteworthy. If you don’t want to trade prospects, just remember the teams who are trading are getting better than you and will be a problem in October

  7. I don’t have faith he’ll get a starter, Assad and Taillon are coming back soon which fills out the rotation with Shōta, Boyd, and Horton and Rea/Brown as a backup. Not a lineup that inspires confidence in a deep playoff run but it is a lineup. The prices for any worthwhile starters seem to be too steep

  8. Jed is a such a prospect hugger , Padres just took a huge swing. Must be fucking nice

  9. I’ve come to the conclusion that the moves we made were meant to keep us competitive enough to make the playoffs. I mean that’s what over half of you want anyway right? However, they are not world-series moves. If Jed truly believed in this team we would be making a larger splash. It’s hard to accept but it’s the truth.

  10. Any fan saying they would trade our number three prospect closer let alone a number three prospect in all of baseball for a closer is a goddamn liar.

I keep seeing the names being moved and they’re nice and all but some of these returns…I’d rather be good consistently than really good once.

  11. What do you want them to do, and what do you want them to give up? What available starter are you willing to give up good talent for at this stage in the game?

  12. This deadline is so entertaining. There are a lot of names getting thrown around and who knows where they’re going to go. That Padres deal for Miller is bananas, unless they think they can slot him in as a starter next year that’s an insane haul for a closer. Happy to be outbid in those cases.

Jed is of course going to be a price conscious shopper. We’re a little cheap but the hope is he’s at least good at it. This year he’s gotten good results out of it so I’m hopeful. They usually make us wait until it feels like he’s not going to do anything and then he lands a player that doesn’t blow your hair back, it isn’t a big splash. Except then he goes out and gets Tucker, so you can’t totally rule it out.

We’re not sellers, we’re at or near the top of the standings, and this deadline is consequential. I love it.

  13. How are we feeling about Gore? That would make 4/5 starters lefties. Seeing his price (as with most available) is STEEP

  14. Cubs have gotten too cheap. They’re playing the same B.S. the Bulls play. They just want a good enough team to make the playoffs because “anything can happen”. Instead of looking at the Tigers and figuring out what they’ll need to beat them, they’re looking at their division and figuring out what they need to be a wild card. It’s embarrassing.

  15. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was it for trades. They got the starter and the reliever they were looking for. They’re both decent pitchers. But I really think they need to add a bat into the lineup. I was hoping they would try to get Suarez, but I wasn’t surprised when they didn’t. On a sidenote, it looks like they’re not going to trade Owen Caissie. That leads me to think that they might not re-sign Kyle Tucker. Kyle wants from what I’ve read between $400-$500 million. Don’t get me wrong he’s a good player but he’s not worth that much. I think Owen might wind up taking Kyle‘s place in the outfield next year. That being said they should call up Owen when the rosters expand in September to give him a taste of the big leagues.

  16. The big ticket starters aren’t coming off the board until the last minute. That’s who we’re hunting. Alcantara, Gore…. Those moves happen late. Don’t forget 2018 when the cubs “didnt do anything” until the 5:30 tweet that we got Castellanos.

  17. As I am too I’m going to put my trust in the same people that traded Baez for PCA
