Idiot fans booed him out of the building before he ever threw a pitch, blamed him for Skenes starting the year in the minors, and all he did was keep his head down, never complain, and provide quality innings every 5th day. Thanks Bailey. Hoping for the best for you.

  1. I legitimately don’t understand the trade at all. If you can’t fucking afford a guy who’s probably going to make 4 million next year and is 100% worth that money then sell the fucking team. If we’re literally pinching pennies to where bailey falter was a non tender candidate then what the fuck are we doing exactly. That’s poverty level shit, like legitimately embarrassing type of crap we’re doing.

  2. Man I really liked Falter. I was pumped we had him locked up for the low end for years.

  3. Super fun to watch him pitch. Quick innings, threw a lot of strikes and very few non competitive pitches. To better process this trade I’m just saying we traded Rodolfo Castro for two scrubs. This is such a shame.

  4. You’d think they could have traded him for at least an MLB caliber player / AAA prospect knocking at the door…

  5. Certainly one of the better pitchers, in the best sense of that term, that I have seen in recent years. Falter is obviously never going to be in Cooperstown, but he went about his business in a very professional way, and he got more out of his ability then almost any player I can think of since Whatsisname, that junk balling right-hander we signed for 2 years from the Giants who ended up having a career year and making his only All-Star team. I can’t remember his name just now, but somebody here will I’m sure.

More to the point, who is going to be a left-handed starter for us next year? You can say Barco and I’d love to see him in Pittsburgh, but he’s got some serious injuries in his resume. What happens if he comes up and is good, but his body breaks down? Conversely, has there ever been any indication that Falter would land on the injured list? On top of everything else, the guy was durable. I mean, there is something to be said for “reliably average and from time to time better than that”, ya know??? Not only that, he was cheap, and he was going to be cheap for a couple more years.

Noah Hiles says that Falter was probably going to be non-tendered this coming off season. All I can say is, if that is true, then Bob Nutting absolutely must sell the team. If you won’t pony up the going rate for a League average left-handed starting pitcher even during his cheap years, or worse, if you can’t because you’re not sufficiently liquid, then you need to get out of Dodge pronto. And I don’t mean maybe. I mean this is the sort of thing that would bring harsh scrutiny from the commissioner, if we had a real commissioner. I normally don’t like to see dirty pool in any industry, but if ever there was a case for a guy being forced to sell, it’s Bob Nutting.
