MLB LIVE🔴 St. Louis Cardinals vs Miami Marlins – Jul 30, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
And welcome in everybody. Glad you’re with us. We’ve got baseball on the show. It’s the Miami Marlins taking on the St. Louis Cardinals. First pitch coming your way next. So, just about set now. And starting in this one, Matthew Liberator. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. Xavier Edwards, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Wow, Boo. First pitch of the night. And looks like the strike zone’s a little small. That one close rule to ball and it’s two and 0. [Music] Hey fouled off. He was late to two now. Swings and misses. Struck him out. Stood absolutely no chance on that slider right there. I don’t mean to laugh, but that’s a tough one. I mean, pretty much a perfect strikeout pitch. I mean, it looks like a fast ball middle in kind of has cutter action and it just bunches you up to where you can’t get your hands through and the barrel to it. Not much you can do unless you recognize the spin early and you spit on it. Swanging a ball drilled center field. Scott sizes this one up, nabs it, and there’s two away. And time now for the Marlins lineup. A guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus. Xavier Edwards. This guy had an on base percentage of over 400 last month. That’s just telling you he’s taking his walks. He’s getting his knocks. He’s finding some holes. Everything just going really well for him right now. But don’t overlook the fact that that happens because he’s having consistently good at bats. Otto Lopez the batter now as he swings and misses for strike one. [Applause] Just missed. One ball, one strike. [Applause] fights it off. He’ll see another. Oh, can’t get out of the way. The fast ball and that’s going to sting. He had him one, two, and he ends up hitting him with a pitch. So, a man had a board. Arberto Hernandez now at the plate. There’s the strike [Applause] [Music] and that is out of play. Here comes the pitch in the air right field. Walker on his way over, squeezes it, and that is that. Marlins leave one. And now the Cardinals get their first shot at it here. No score. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Bush Stadium. Today’s starting pitcher, Tyler Phillips. Singing. He’s kind of a road warrior. Yeah, I definitely say so. You know, some guys shrink a little bit on the road. They’re so used to just, you know, having the comforts of being at home and having the fans behind them, but this guy seems to thrive in adversity and being in some hostile environment. So, when you have a player like this on your team that goes out there and competes, you definitely like your chances away from your home ballpark. [Applause] Brendan Donovan leading things off and takes a strike. [Music] And there at the knees and it’s 0 and two. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. On the ground right side. Edwards on to first. One gone. Bottom half of the first. Here’s a Cardinal lineup now. And Chris, this group has been struggling to put up runs lately. Well, they haven’t been on base a ton. And even when they are, they haven’t been hitting very well with runners on base. So, they need a player or two to really step up, have some quality at bats, hit according to the situation and sort of break out of this. I think if they do, the rest of this lineup will follow. Ivon Herrera, the next to hit, takes outside. Hard hit down the line and left. And that’s a fair ball around first and hustling for second. And that’s a double. A late jump. And I think that was the difference on the play. Boo. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. One out, runner at second. And up next for St. Louis, Alec Burlson in the dirt. [Applause] Here the runner at second with one away. That’s hard hit on the line. Reaching for it, makes the catch. Grounder tags at second and he moves up to third. Now two away. batting fourth first baseman Wilson Contrarus. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position and next will be the cleanup hitter Wilson Contrus in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. [Music] Now a screamer into the outfield. Meyers makes the grab and that will end the inning. The Cards leave one scoreless after one. Back here in St. Louis. Top of the second. Now it’s the rookie first baseman, Eric Wagaman. Let’s go. Come on, Matthew. Liberator back to work. Swing at a highf fly ball. Well struck way back there. And it’s off the foul pole for a home run. He shoots one out to right. And just like that, they’re out front. It’s one- nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat, boo. Aggressive and it paid off. Well, he really crushed that thing down the line and everyone had to hold their breath until it clanked off the pole. And every time that happens, it just kind of feels like a trick shot or something. But really, it’s just a stroke of luck that it stays fair long enough. Now, here is Kyle Sters. There’s a strike. Oh, you just got to delete it. You give up that leadoff home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. [Music] [Applause] Late swing. Fouled to the left. [Applause] Chases that one out of the zone. And that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the home run. Gosh, here it is. hit it. Three pitch strike out all fast balls. Man, he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch right now. And now for the Marlins, Dane Meyers. First pitch just misses. Counts one and one out. Base is empty and a run in here in the top of the second. Foul ball. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Now one and two. See if you can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you can get hurt. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Oh, there he gets the slider in on his hands and it just eats him off. You know, it’s hard to get the bat around on a pitch like that in tight. You just feel like you’re crowded on the inside part of the plate. Can’t get any extension. That’s one he definitely should have laid off of. In the air right field. Walker makes the catch and that’ll do it. Miami strikes first on the solo homer. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show back here in St. Louis. Here’s Nolan Aronado. Third base. Nolan Aronado at the plate. Aronado guy who delivers big time power at the dish and will probably go down as one of the greatest defensive third baseman of all time. And there’s a hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Now up for St. Louis. Mason win that one the other way. And that’s a fair ball. Aronado makes the turn at second. And that’s a double. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. He really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing. Foul. One thing that was great about the approach, his head was down all the way through the pitch. And that’s how you do it. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Jordan Walker on the ground and it goes just foul. Two in scoring position. Nobody out. Bottom half of inning number two. Swinging a ground ball and foul ball. [Music] That one off the mark and the count is one and two. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Swing and a highf fly ball down the right field line. Brings it in. Grounder tags at second. Batting eight, catcher Pedro Pah. Pedro Pah getting ready to hit. Golden opportunity right here. You have to find a way to score the runner from third, especially with less than two outs. Wait for the pitch you want and hit it as hard as you can. right through there for a strike. Really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter line and that’s a base hit. One runs in. Now the second run is in and a two one ball game now. Gets the job done as he brings home. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. [Music] One down, runner at first. And up next for St. Louis, Victor Scott, third baseman playing on the edge of the grass looking for the sack bun. This one chopped on the ground, but fouled. [Applause] Oh, that squirts away a little bit. Patrick Johnson calling the balls and strikes. Pretty standard zone for Johnson. And sometimes he might get a little jumpy, a little excited and expand the zone, but usually you at least feel like the pitcher on the mound is earning it. And that’s important because you got to make players earn it. Ripped to third and caught. Well, baseball can be cruel, can’t it? I mean, sometimes it gives, sometimes it takes away. He did everything right on that swing, but he’s got nothing to show for it. At the plate, Brendan Donovan grounded out his first time up. [Applause] Grounds one to short. Lopez, they get the force. Third out and that ends the frame. But two runs for him and they jump ahead. End of two here at Bush Stadium. It’s the Cardinals two and the Marlins one. Top half of the third inning. And at the plate for Miami, Javier Senoha. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Swing and a liner foul off to the right. That one inside. One and two to count. Just off the outside edge. Really good take especially with two strikes. out to short. Win fires across the diamond. One up, one down. Up next for the Marlins. Second base, Xavier Edwards. Now it’s the Marlins leadoff hitter. Xavier Edwards let off the game with a strikeout. First pitch and he just misses. One out. Base is empty. And that’s through there for a strike and one and one. Fought off. Foul. One down. Base is empty. Swaying in a ball popped in the air. Two away now. [Applause] Augustine Ramirez the next up for the Marlins. 0 for one with a fly out to center. Ramirez goes 6’1, 210 lbs, and they went out and made a trade for him last season right through there for a strike. Well, the offense has gotten going, and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Two out, space is empty. And there’s a curve through for a strike. In this situation as the number two hitter, two out, nobody on. You want to be a table setter. Work the at bat, get deep, whatever it takes. Get on first base. Swing in a ball. Lift it in the air. And that’ll do it. [Applause] And we’re back ready to go for the last half of the inning. Now it’s the DH Ivon Herrera. Herrera. There’s the strike. 0 and one. St. Louis. Next pitch misses. One and one up the middle. Lopez handles, throws to first. Lead off hitter gone in the third. Good sinker low in the zone right there and produced exactly what he was looking for. Ball on the ground. Nice ground out. Now the left fielder, Alec Burlson. Let’s do it. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. [Music] Just off the inside edge. Pitch misses. Ball three. [Applause] And that’s in for a strike. Let’s go to the right side. Wagaman. He steps on the bag and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. First baseman Wilson Contras. Wilson Contrarus now up to the plate. He’s 0 for one. Jack Swain called strike. And that’s strike one to the right side. Edwards over to first. St. Louis goes down in order. Nothing across here this half. On to inning number four. It’s the Cardinals two and the Marlins one. Back here at Bush Stadium. John Chambi with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth, Otto Lopez. All right, let’s go. And the pitch a little bit low. Ball one. You know, these Marlins just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone. And those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see. But I think they have to. [Music] Swinging a ground ball up the middle. That’s the first out in the top of the fourth. Up next for the Marlins. Ariberto Hernandez will hit next. fly to right his first time and a swing and a miss. Not sure if he could be in more of a groove. Looks really relaxed. He’s retired seven straight. This guy’s feeling it right now. That misses. One ball, one strike. One and one. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. Next offering down in the dirt. Good eye right there. fouled off and they’ll do it again. One down, base is empty. Fouls it back with two strikes. And that’s ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Man at first with one gone. Eric Wagaban the next up for the Marlins. He’s already homered here in this one. First pitch, not close. Maybe losing command a little bit after the walk. Next pitch, not even close. Hernandez, the base runner at first with one out. Fly ball down the line and that’s a foul ball. Run around to go. The one-1 is fouled off. [Applause] That one down the line. And that’s just foul. man at first. One away. And now two and two. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. That misses. Full countdown and ball four to a board. Up next for the Marlins, right fielder Kyle Sters. Two on, one out. Sters digs in now. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. Drilled in the air high and deep right field. Walker ranging back. He’s got it. Runner tags and we’ll move up to third. Excellent play out there and he does it in a huge spot. That wall can very easily jar the ball loose when you bang into it. So that could have been a really different outcome. Dane Meyers the next up for the Marlins. [Applause] And that drops in for a strike. [Applause] Just missed. Two walks in the inning already and he just doesn’t seem comfortable out there. Like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat them. swinging a ball lifted in the air right field. He just missed it. And that’s the third out. Marlins strand a pair and they trail it here. Two to one. Bottom of the inning. Here’s the third base. Nolan Aronado. Nolan Aronado. That’s off the inside corner. And that is ball one. And another ball. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound. In this situation, ahead 200, he’s put himself in a really good spot. That one misses. Three balls, no strikes. He hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day. He’s in danger of walking his first batter right here. Hard hit left side. Slings it across. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. Now up for St. Lewis Mason win a double and a run scored his first time up. Swing and a high-fly ball in the air left field. Senoha makes the catch. Two down. Now batting right fielder. Two out. Space is empty. And now Jordan Walker. He’s 0 for one. He was late there. Strike one. Something I’m noticing in this one is that these hitters are aggressive early in the count. It makes you wonder if that was talked about in the hitters meeting before this game started. Line drive, base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. He was all over that one. A lot of hitters tell themselves, “Line drive over the infielder’s head.” That’s what I’m trying to do. Just keep that approach simple. And right there, it was perfectly executed on time with everything and pulled it into the gap nicely. Checks over to first. Back safely. Now here is Pedro Pah in the dirt. Safe at second. And that was not close. And there’s the strike. Walker on it second with two down in the air fairly deep to right field. Sters settles under this one and he makes the catch and that’s the inning. One hit, one left. Onto the top of the fifth we go. It’s the Cardinals two and the Marlins one. New inning getting started. Digging in. Nick Forz liberator back to work. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. You know, these Marlins, to put it bluntly, need to put together more competitive at bats. And I don’t think they’ve lived up to their own expectations at the plate. They really haven’t worked many deep counts or long at bats. And that’s fine if you’re having a lot of success, but at this point, I think it’s time to make an adjustment. That one at 95 missed up top. And the count one and two. That’s inside. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. Still two and two after the foul ball. [Music] [Music] [Applause] Stays alive. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming in the air left side. Burlson makes the grab. One away. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. [Music] Senoa in the box now as he looks at ball one. Second played appearance of the day for him. And another ball. Two and0. That’s in for a strike. The fish down by a run. And we’re at the top of the fifth. Swaying at a ball popped in the air. And that’ll get down for a hit. Now batting second base back to the top of the Miami order and now it’s the switch inning second baseman Xavier Edwards liner and this could be trouble. Lead runner touches second headed for third coming home. He’ll score easily. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch runcoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. Go ahead run on base. Augustine Ramirez the next to hit. Go for two in this one. That’s too low and it’s one and0. Here’s the pitch. Runner on the move. Strike in there. Throw. Save. That’s a stolen base. And the go-ahead run is now only 90 ft away. [Applause] on the ground to the left. Aronado to first in time. Now they get the out. So important to really lock in on an at bat like this. It seems easy with the infield back, but you got to make sure you put the ball in play. Put it on the ground, brought that run in. Otto Lopez now at the plate. [Applause] And that one upstairs. Ball one. [Applause] Hit in the air out to center field. Scott coming on. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And that is that. So they get a couple of runs on two hits. No errors and no one left on. Last half of the fifth coming up. It’s the Marlins three and the Cardinals two. We head to the bottom of the fifth. And now here’s a speed threat outfielder, Victor Scott. This guy’s just a tremendously talented center fielder. Gold glove caliber type out there. Offensively, he can do some things, but you know, also has some streakiness as well. I think the key just trying to find a way for him to be consistent day in and day out. You know, he saves runs in the outfield. So, that’s going to not in time. That’s a leadoff double. Oh, that started. It ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. Solid swing from start to end. On time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension. And he met it out front for the line drive. Now, a pretty big bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Brendan Donovan next up for the Cardinals. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Scott at second with nobody out. Right through there for a strike. Miamiy’s bullpen with some action. Calantrol getting ready to go. Number 66 getting loose as well. [Music] [Applause] Brother takes off. [Applause] That’s towards center. Meyers settles under it. He’s got it. runner tags at second, puts the tag on him, and it’s a double play. When you’re already in scoring position and you decide to tag, you really want to be more than 100% confident that you can make it safely to third because otherwise you take a potential runcoring opportunity off the board. Great throw to third. And now it’s Ivon Herrera, one for two. just missed. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five and a seed into center. That’s a base hit. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side. And then the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. So two down, Alec Burlson. Next up for the Cardinals. [Applause] And downstairs, the two-hole hitter showing so much versatility, understanding the situation, gets on base with two out to bring possibly the best hitters in this lineup to the plate in this inning. Next pitch in for a strike and the count one and one. I got a ball, one strike. makes the sliding stop, gathers and throws. What a play. Inning over. So, one left for the Cardinals. They trail it 3-2. Now, pitching. We’re back. And they make a change to start the sixth. The new pitcher, Sunny Gray, just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where homepen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. So here’s the cleanup hitter, Arberto Hernandez. Areto Hernandez. There’s a strike. Hernandez, 25 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. up the middle into the outfield base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. Just kept it simple. Played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from. And there was just no one there to knock it down. And now the first baseman, Eric Wagaman. He launched a solo shot back in the second inning of this one. Yeah, that was big for these guys early on. definitely helped them get off onto the right foot. [Music] St. Louis. And that’s outside. Action in the pen down there. Phil Mod, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. King also getting ready. Check swing called strike. [Applause] And that one fouled off. on the ground to first. They get one the tag and they get him at second. That’s a double play right. And now it’s going to be Kyle Sters. [Applause] And that one missing low right through there for a strike. in for a strike. Went with the sweeper. One ball, two strike. [Applause] Cut out and miss. Struck him out. And it’s a three up, three down inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. To the bottom of the six we go. 456 coming up. It’s the Marlins three and the Cardinals two. Back now for the bottom of the sixth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Cal Quantrol. Well, he struggled quite a bit, so this is another opportunity to get on the right track. He’s given up more than one hit per any pitch so far this season. Here comes Wilson Contras. First baseman, Wilson Contrarus. [Applause] up the middle. Lopez fires over to first and that’s one out as they get the leadoff hitter in the sixth. Up next for the Cardinals, third baseman Nolan. Here’s Nolan Aronado. a bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. Signs of activity in the pen for the Marlins. Kade Gibson appears to be getting loose. Junk also throwing. Home team down a run here in the bottom of the sixth. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball on the ground right side. Wagamin steps on the bag and a couple of quick outs. Hey man, four pitches, two outs. That is an excellent base. Mason Win next up for the Cardinals. He’s someone that you might not describe as having elite level speed, but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game. On the ground to short, whips it across. Three up, three down. Inning over. Nothing doing here this half. We’re through six full. It’s the Marlins three and the Cardinals two. Back here in St. Louis, we go to the top of the seventh. And now the center fielder, Dane Meyers. Boo, this guy’s definitely a plus runner, but what I love about him is that he goes all out every single time. Never takes a break. Guys like that, even though they don’t have the elite speed, the fact that they’re consistent with it, they make moves on the base paths that catches the top part of the zone count even at one. [Applause] Yeah, big swing and a miss, man. He was really tardy on that fast. Great job of setting him up by throwing the curve ball. Add some velocity to it on the next pitch. Can’t catch up. Got it. That’s the first out the top of the seven. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Nick Forez will hit next. Cardinal. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Oh, and one. One down. Space is empty. Ball. That’s inside. That’s way outside now. Two balls in a strike. Bases empty, one away here in the top half of inning number seven. swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow left field when makes the grab and there’s two gone. Up next for the Marlins, left fielder Javier. Here’s the left fielder Javier Senoha. Swings through that one. 0 and one 01’s the count and the swinging to miss. Man, this has been a real important inning in relief. I mean, so far they’ve been doing a great job holding that deficit at one. Struck him out looking. Nothing doing for the Marlins, but they’re up three to two. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Back here in St. Louis, set for the last half of the seventh. Stepping in, Jordan Walker. Walker and fouled off. Looking to get the tying run on base. That one’s upstairs. Ball one and that’s a little bit high and that’s ball two [Applause] and that one is inside umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. Pedro Pah in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And it’s fouled off [Applause] in the air right side. Sters puts it away for the out. Up next for the Cardinals catcher. Now the catcher up to him. Pedro Pah. Well, he came out clutch earlier in this ball game and really just needs to take the same approach. Think hard right back up the middle. First pitch misses. Just missed. Holding on to a one-run lead here in the bottom of the seventh. And that one just missed off the outside edge. But I would expect in this three 0 count you’re taking all the way. See if they walk you. Three 0 down and the tying run is on base. That just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of his own. Now the Marlins manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. That’s it for Calantrol and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming up. We’ll be back in a minute. Now pitching for new pitcher for the Marlins, Kade. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So the defense should be active. One down. Victor Scott next up for the Cardinals. Little surprised we don’t see a pinch hitter here, but the lefty lefty matchup. [Applause] And the first offering is not close. Always tough to turn two on a speedster like this. It’s even harder with them coming out of the left-handed batters box. You really need something to hit hard on the ground that they can handle to turn too quickly. Hey, [Music] [Applause] next offering in there for a strap. Now he’s in a one-two hold. Oh, that’s out. [Applause] Swinging a drive deep right field into the corner but foul. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. One- run game. One out, one on. Ground ball left side could be two. Gloves lift for one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. If you want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff just like we saw. Brendan Donovan next up for the Cardinals. 0 for three in this one. Well, with pretty good speed over there at first base, I think the pitcher’s got to slow everything down. Hold the ball a little bit, step off, just try to break the rhythm and timing of a potential base dealer. [Applause] Step off, throw to first. Scott back on a dive. He’s got plus speed, but in this situation, all eyes are going to be over there trying to keep his lead tight. [Applause] inside. Ball one. Well, in this situation, the hitter knows that he’s got to find a pitch that he can drive in order to drive in that tying run all the way from first base. So, if he can’t do that, keep the line moving through a walk or just a base hit, but you got to stay within yourself. And another ball, Chris, with that distraction and a speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. And that’s off the inside edge. They’re down three and0. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. So, now two on and two outs. Well, that’s a pretty significant two out walk as it moves the tying run up into scoring position. It’s definitely not what you’re looking for from your pitchers late in the ball game. So now here’s the Cardinals designated hitter, Ivon Herrera. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one. Curve ball drops in there. Big spot. Two out. Both the tying and go ahead runs are a turndown, but that’s foul down the third baseline. So the tying run at second gets a piece and it stays 0 and2. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. That misses the zone now. One and two. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. fights that one away. Still one and two. [Applause] Ground ball left side and he gets by him. Runner around third on his way to the plate. He’ll score. Such great concentration. everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing and there he doesn’t try to do too much. Now the left fielder, Alec Burlson. [Applause] First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Donovan at second. Here on first with two down. That cuts the zone and the count one and one. Just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. And that one fouled off. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch. But just a little tardy on the fast ball. [Applause] had a good eye there. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. [Applause] [Music] And it remains two and two. Two aboard, two outs. [Applause] Just misses there. That’s a really good take. [Applause] Deep breath. He’s ready. And he fires. Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again. [Applause] That ball is foul and the pressure is building. [Applause] Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. And with two outs and the count full, the runners will be on the move. [Applause] [Music] Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. [Applause] Gets a piece and stays alive. [Music] [Applause] Good job to fight that one off. [Applause] Here’s a rip to short, but he’s there for the third out. But they pick up one run on the RBI single. We’re tied now at three apiece. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready to begin the eighth. And here is Xavier Edwards. Gray back to work. That’s in there. And that is strike one. Move into the bullpen for the Cardinals. Ryan Hley, the closer is getting loose. Greno warming up as well. [Applause] And a bunt towards third and it’s just fouled. That was close. [Applause] Battling here as he fouls it away. Line drive down the line and it’s fouled. Here’s the high heat. Pass them. That’s a strike out. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catch are on the same page right now. Number 15. [Applause] And up next for Miami, Agugustine Ramirez fought off foul. All tied up and we’re in the top of the eighth. [Applause] just missing there and it’s one and two. Bans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Came inside with that two strike fast nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got them up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. Lopez in the box now. No balls in a strike. swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. He’s got it and that’ll end the inning. Three up, three down for him there. Home half of inning number eight straight ahead. All tied up at three apiece. Now pitching for Jansen Junk gets handed the rock out of the pen. Definitely a guy that pounds the strike zone, makes hitters earn their way on base, and rarely gets in trouble because of free passes. And up to hit is Wilson Contras. First baseman, Wilson Contras. [Applause] First pitch just misses. A lot of pitchers have caught on to how good he is hitting the first pitch. Smart to avoid the zone right there. There’s the strike. Swings through that one. That front door slider is such a devastating pitch. You don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball. So, you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there, it’s out of the swing plane. Next one is off the play. Two balls, two strikes. Really nice slider right there. Sweeping across the dish, but just couldn’t hang the edge. Laser base hit. So, the go-ahead run is on base with a knock. Always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through. It’s just bigger than your own individual stats. Just a very nice approach and swing right there to use the big part of the field. Everything was on time. and he stayed balanced through the entire swing and just launched that one into center. Here’s Nolan Aronado that clips the corner. Oh, and one swing and a chopper out to short off balance feet. There’s one. How about that double play? All right. Nice soft hands on the back hand right there in the six hole. Starts the double play. That’s not an easy throw, but he puts it on the money. Really good job to get that double play started. And here is Mason Win. One for three. Fouled off down the right side. [Applause] Little bit low down. [Applause] That one ripped and it looks like trouble and that’s going to roll to the wall. In with a double and the go ahead runs at second with two out. Two hits for him in this one. Both for extra bases. Got to feel good about that. Nice line drive to the pole side right there. But he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. Now, a huge at bat in this game coming up. Jordan Walker getting ready to hit. [Applause] That breaking ball drops in for a strike. One’s the count. Two down. Go ahead run in scoring position. [Applause] outside low and that’s ball one. [Applause] This to third. Ramirez sends it across to first and we stay tied as the inning ends. The Cards leave one so no change in the score. It’s 3-3. Now pitching. We’re back. And on the bound is the closer Ryan Helley. He’s averaging more than one hit allowed per any pitch this season. That’s not where you want to be at all. So we’ll see how he does here. Here’s the cleanup hitter for Miami, Arberto Hernandez. Arberto Hernandez. [Applause] [Applause] upstairs and that’s ball one. Wow. Triple digits on the gun. I I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past, but it’s still impressive to watch. And that one fouled off. That misses the zone and it’s two and one. [Applause] got him and a strike down for the first out here in the night. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things that when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. And now Eric Wagaban in there at the knees. That’s strike one. [Applause] Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. [Applause] One down. Base is empty. And a swing and a miss. Coming out of the bullpen drawing beings. Chance to strike out the side. Now, you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss, whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves, knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. And now Kyle Stard, the first pitch misses for ball one. [Applause] two outs. A sliding stop onto the pitcher. Takes it himself and he got him. Nicely done at first for the out. So they make short work of him there. 891 do up in the bottom of inning number nine. All tied up at three apiece. [Applause] back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Anthony Bender and this is appearance number 45 number 37 Anthony Bender. And now the Cardinals catcher Pedro PZ. Casher Pedro PZ late swing fouled off. [Music] Swinging a foul out of play [Music] outside low. It’s a ball in two strikes. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Ronnie Enriquez, the hardth throwing righty is up and loosening. Foscher, a hardthrowing right-hander up as well. Fights it off. He’ll see another. [Applause] Not close with that one. It’s two and two. [Applause] That one hit to right. One away. [Music] Now batting. The batter down. Victor Scott. Victor Scott. The second [Applause] That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. Base is empty, one away. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Popped up to the left into foul ground. And there’s two down. Now batting second base. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Brendan Donovan. [Applause] Check swing and he went. Strike one. One’s the count. Two down, nobody on here. The last half of inning number nine. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That’s the third out and we are headed to extras. Offense held in check there. Nine isn’t enough to decide a winner. So we are off to extra innings. All tied up at three apiece. Back here at Bush Stadium. We’re in extras here. And now for the Marlins, Dane Meyers. [Applause] First pitch and he just misses. One, no strikes. [Applause] And that drops in for a strike. [Applause] And at second and a count one and two. [Applause] That’s a little bit low. [Music] [Applause] And now the count is full. And another power hitter lurking in the on deck circle. Nick Forez in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Foul ball and it remains a full cow. Ball four. He walked in and that keeps things going. Well, they didn’t give him anything to hit and now with runners on first and second, they’ve set up a double play opportunity. So, not a terrible result. First and second, no outs. Now it’s the Marlins catcher. Nick Forez [Applause] popped up and that’s a foul ball. [Applause] Yoan puts a bunt down. The throw to second is offline. Everybody’s going to be safe. Javier Senoha the next up for the Marlins. Javier in the infield at the corners. Don’t be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring. [Applause] Edge of the zone for a strike and one. They need a strike out and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something. But you got to make some pitches. But if he can battle and get through this, he can earn some points. [Applause] swings and misses and the count is 0 and two. So they’re all loaded up. Foul ball still 0 and two. Yeah, with two strikes here, you really want to miss outside the zone with that breaking ball. [Applause] And he hits a ground ball right side to the plate for one. And they turn the double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Xavier Edwards gets a chance to hit here. [Applause] [Applause] Swing in a ball hit out towards left center field. Base hit. One run is in. Here comes the throw and he’s out. Cut down and that ends the inning. They put two on the board. Only one hit. An error and no one left on. Last chance to even things up. We head to the bottom of inning number 10. Marlins five and the Cardinals three. Back now and on the mound the closer Ronnie Enriquez coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Ivon Herrera digs in now. Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases. And that’s him for a strike. And it’s even up. [Applause] Tying run at the plate. That’s a base hit and they get it in quickly. First and third now with nobody out. So they hold a runner at third wanting to play it safe. Think that comes back to bite him. Boy, it’s hard to say. That runner on second to start extras is critical and you want to make sure you don’t waste him. They don’t score in this second guessing for sure. A move being made at third. Cardinals going with a pinch runner. Garrett Hson. Alec Burlson the next to hit in there for strike one with the winning run at the plate here in extra innings. [Applause] And the pitch is outside. Ball one. [Applause] [Applause] Chopper right side. Sends it to first. That’s out number one. And a run comes in to score. Here’s Contraras. Now, these are the moments you dream of as a hitter. Bottom of the ninth with a chance to tie or win the game. It’s time to live up to the big moment. [Applause] That’s a strike and one. A oneun lead. The home team trying to pull it out. Next offering is in for a strike. Hit on the ground to the right side and foul ball. [Applause] So the tying run at second in there sets him down on strikes. Cardinals now with just one out remaining. Well, even if you don’t feel great about it, you got to swing the bat with two strikes in this situation. You’ve got the tying run out there in scoring position. Just put the ball in play. Maybe something good will happen. It just didn’t look like he understood the situation. So they’re down to their final out now. The third baseman Nolan Aronado trying to deliver as the hero. Check swing called strike [Applause] and that misses. Ball and a strike to Aronado. [Applause] That one missed. [Applause] They’re down to their final strike with the tying run at second. And here in extra innings spoils that one and it remains two and two. [Applause] The Cards down to their final strike and there’s a ball. Mason win in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here trying to close out a one-run lead and we’re in the last half of the 10th. [Applause] Man on second, two down and a foul ball. He stays alive. [Applause] Well, he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact. Two outs. He walked in and that will keep things going. Well, a great back and forth in that at bat play off some really close pitches and somehow he found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there. I’ll tell you right now, I couldn’t have done it. Win next up for the Cardinals. Jose [Applause] [Applause] tap foul at the plate. [Applause] And he’ll one and a breaking ball drops in for a strike. [Music] That misses now. One and two. His understanding the strike zone very impressive. That was a very close 02 fast ball. I just don’t know how you take that [Applause] in the dirt. And an excellent job keeping it right there. [Applause] Got him. And that’s the ball game. When you win five in a row, the confidence just goes to another level and you start to gain this momentum and you think that you’re never going to lose a game again because things are clicking up and down the lineup. Pitchers are pitching, the team is making the plays defensively. This is the kind of feeling it’s not going to last all season long, but you want to ride it as long as you possibly can. Perhaps push it up to double digits. Close one here today and your final 54. A oneun extra inning win for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shabi. We’ll see you soon.
