This is the dumbest statement i’ve heard in my entire life.
That’s got to be one of those most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard
Just come out and say you hate the pirates and are doing everything you can to sabotage this organization. Makes life so much easier than trying to hide it
Yeah cuz if they suck they’ll be cheaper and thus money saved. Genius!
Bruh…
Okay he was intentionally sabotaging the franchise. There is no other explanation here.
They were almost definitely pitchers.
If this is truly the case and not somehow taken out of context then it should be an immediate termination.
Why would you even consider saying something like that? It’s preposterous.
Just when you think you can’t hate him more
Imagine being as bad at your job as he is but still having the arrogance to say this. Haha. Wtf
Why would anyone openly offer up this information? What a numbskull…
This is supposed to be saying how much they liked Rafael Flores, but we know they overvalue him, because he is a Jack Suwinski style player, and this is gonna end up similarly.
This literally might be the worst statement I’ve ever heard from a person in a front office position in any sport.
Like…he just admitted he’s an idiot and took a worse deal. How low is this guy’s IQ??
I hate him so so much
lol fuck Cherington and hopefully he’s shown the door, but he’s clearly saying that the FO doesn’t see the futures of these prospects the same as the industry does.
The Cherington FO doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt, and is likely wrong, but I can’t blame them for sticking to their evaluations over the industry consensus. I’d except every FO to do that. I realize some people are probably just memeing, but this is hardly an admission of sabotage of the organization lol.
Lmao what does this even mean?
“We got calls about better players but we decided fuck em we want worse players for no reason”
Eh, it depends. We all know they need position players, and that the Yankees have a lot of pitching talent.
If the Yanks offered a higher rated prospect(s), but it was a pitcher, and the values were close. Its not insane to prefer the “lesser” package.
He’s full of crap.
Why would you ever admit to this?
The Fans: why did you trade Bednar for nothing?
GMBC: well actually we were offered some high rated guys, but just preferred Yankees slip because I like trading with them.
Is he trying to get fired? He’s one step away from driving around the PNC Park parking lot dragging the ’79 World Series trophy a la George Costanza.
So they think they’re better than every rankings platform and other scouts? God help us. Our fanbase using Fangraphs, BA rankings, and MLB Pipeline probably make a better team/trade.
Was it pitching? People would’ve also been upset with more pitching.
This is some Ron Hextall type shit.
Good god. I am always shocked when teams take bulk packages from teams like the Yanks who consistently have prospects that don’t pan out. It’s baffling.
I feel like he’s a bob nutting plant to keep this team bad
I’m annoyed that Cherington traded Falter and didn’t trade rentals. But the statement here about the Bednar trade seems reasonable. All he is saying is that the Pirates chose a trade package based on their own assessments of players rather than the public rankings. I have no problem with that, in principle.
Yo I hate him and this fuckin team too but don’t be obtuse. This is obviously saying he disagreed with the rankings and thought this package was better than some other teams #6 prospect or whatever
