MLB LIVE🔴 Toronto Blue Jays vs Kansas City Royals – Aug 1, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Hello baseball fans and welcome. We’ve got open air baseball for you on the show. It’s the Kansas City Royals and the Toronto Blue Jays. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. just about set to go. And today’s starter, Max Scherzer. Chris, what are you looking for from him? Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. And to the plate for Kansas City, Jonathan India. There’s the swinging a miss one. [Applause] 8 gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Got him swinging. Slider got him for strike three. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Now, here’s Bobby Whit Jr. That’s fouled off. You know, Boo, this is a player with some serious speed. In 2023, he became the first player in 20 years to record two infield hits and an inside the park home run in the same game. Check swing and that’s a ball. Really good check swing right there. So difficult to hold off on the slider from a same side thrower. Very difficult to pick up the release point. Sherzer winds, kicks, fires right down to shoot and the count one and two. One out. Base is empty. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow left field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. That’s out number two. And here now the lineup for the Royals. We could be in for a power showcase today with the wind blowing out. A lot of lift and separate. Chris, uh, we know hitters are in this era definitely trying to hit the ball in the air regardless of the conditions, but I think even a little more so there’s margin for error if you can get the ball up in the air. So, you know, you’ll see at times, I’m sure, with two strikes, what looks like a half swing that can get out of the ballpark with a hitter who’s got decent pop. Vinnie Pasquantino stands in now and watches strike one. [Applause] [Music] ground ball left side and that is the inning. Nothing doing for the Royals and now the Blue Jays will get their initial shot. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Rogers Center, today’s starting pitcher, Noah Cameron. What’s the word on him? Well, what quickly stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a 3 to1 strikeout to walk ratio on the season. So, when you consider consistency, the ability to get swings and misses and to limit base runners, that’s critical in winning games today, especially when teams are depending on the big swing, the home run to win ball games. And now for the Jays, Nathan Lucas. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. [Applause] kicks and fires outside low and that’s ball two. [Applause] [Music] That one missed. And there’s the automatic. [Music] Next offering is fouled back. Stays alive. [Music] That one misses. So a lead off walking second. And the batter is George Springer. Seems like he’s making contact with everything lately. Hitting better than 350 this month. That’s outside and that is ball one. Lucas aboard here at first with nobody out and that is out of play. [Music] [Applause] And now two and one. Two balls, one strike. And there’s a foul ball. Runner at first with no outs here. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit. Just not able to square it up. Swing and a miss. Had him out front for the strike out. Well, you see him trying to pull that inside pitch right there. And that’s not the kind of approach that you want to have. Even if you do get to it, it’s going to be very difficult to keep it fair. you’re just going to make it a long strike at best. You have to be able to stay within the baseball on the inside of that path to it. And that way if you’re a little quick, the ball gets hit hard somewhere and it’s not foul. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. now. Come on, Vladimir. line drive caught at the lineup. And no doubt a big factor in this series so far. Nathan Lucas Boo. He’s really been showing off the pop in this series so far. Two homers and you know he’d love to add on with another shot today. I’m interested to see how they approach him. Besette up to the dish. He’s been on fire at the dish lately. Working on a fivegame hitting streak. Edge of the zone for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Most hitters are looking for a first pitch fast ball. You’re not really timed up for a change up. So if it’s welllo pitcher and get strike one. That’s off the mark. Ball one. The 1-1 is fouled off. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] missed with a change up. And now two balls and two strikes. That’s down and in. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. Swanging a ball hit out towards left center field. It falls in and that’s a base hit. Coming home. The throw is offline and he’s in to score and it’s one- nothing. Well, that worked out as good as it could have. We mentioned the RBI opportunity with the runner moving on the 3-2 pitch and he cashed in by finding a hole in the outfield. You know, that takes a little extra concentration in the box because of the movement on the base pass. Easy to get distracted. So that was a really nice job there. Addison Barger the next to hit tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Well, they’re really running up the pitch count in this first inning. Lots of confidence from this team that is perhaps the hottest in baseball right now. Two outs and one in scoring position. Next offering is in for a strike. All you got to do is concentrate and execute this next pitch. Get yourself out of the jam, back into the dugout. Man at second. Headed towards the corner and makes the grab. And that is the inning. The Jays push across a run on this double. It’s an early one- nothing lead. You’re dialed into the show. Top of the second, now the third base. Mel Garcia. Mel Garcia. Max Scherzer back to work. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. [Music] So here’s Scherzer and that’s in there for a strike. Quickly nothing at two. Patrick Johnson behind the plate. Patty Johnson the Sunbird, but I’d ask permission first before I called him that. Does a pretty good job back there. Occasionally we’ll see a couple of sideways looks from players, but that kind of comes with the territory, right? [Applause] Swung on, belted, can’t get to it as it drops into the corner. The throw in, not in time. That’s a leadoff double. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Here’s the veteran first baseman Salvador Perez. That one fouled off. And now the 01 and that one fouled off. Runner at second. Nobody out. Battling here as he fouls it away. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Sher deals. Back up the middle and a base hit. Here’s the throw to the plate. Safe home and the runner scores from second. It’s 1-1. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. Got a fast ball middle of the plate. Jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. Randall Gretchic now and a foul ball. Sherzer 40 years old now. He joined the team as a free agent. [Applause] That one off the mark there. That’s ball one [Applause] on the corner for a strike. One ball, two strike. swing and a miss. Struck him out. Slider got him for strike three. Slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking it into the zone. And then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early and a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. And now here is John Raid. Fast ball for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Tied up here in the early going [Applause] right through there for a strike. Quickly down 02 in the count. I think you got to choke up a little bit. Spread out the feet. You don’t know what the velocity or the location of this next pitch is going to be. left field. Loido hauls it in for the batting eighth. Catcher Luke Mey. Here’s Luke Mey. [Applause] That clips the corner. Two gone, but the go ahead run is at first here in the top of the second. Strike two. Kelly just threw that fast ball by him, elevated. And if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity. That missed by a lot. The count one and two. Rarely will you see a pitcher just to waste a pitch like that. The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing. Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out. Not close with that one. And the count is even. Two and two. [Applause] That’s foul off to the right side keeps the AB going. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] and a swing and a miss. And that’s that. So, one run in the inning on this base hit. All even at one a piece. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back now in Toronto. Bottom half of inning number two. Here’s the second base Ernie Clement. Cameron back to work. That one misses. One and0. Breaking ball misses down and away. Last couple of pitches. Breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. Here’s a two- highf fly ball down the left field line. Pasquantino calls it in and there’s one away. Batting seventh, left fielder, Joey Lope. Joey Lopeido. Next up for the Blue Jays. Sliced hard but fouled down the left side. [Applause] Swing and a miss. There’s that change up. 02 is the count. One down. Base is empty. And that skips into [Applause] cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. A left-handed batter facing a left-handed pitcher that’s got some sink like that at the end. It’s just the bottom falls out of it, but it looks like it’s going to be a pretty good pitch in that location that everyone says lefties love. Tyler Heinman in the box here lets that one go for a ball. Two out. Space is empty. Follow that out. clips the corner. Two and one now. Well, three balls, one strike [Music] late on that fast ball. 32 swings and misses. Struck him out. Nothing doing it for the Blue Jays. Score remains tied 1-1. On to the third inning. The batter now Tyler Tolbert. Kansas City. Max Scherzer goes to work and a fast ball in there for a strike at 91. [Applause] Yeah, big swing and a miss. Well, that’s that slope right there. He threw it extremely well. Talk about just a ton of break. So tough to get that barrel to. [Applause] And now a flare into left and that’s just fouled. Andy O2 and that’s in the dirt. That one outside. Two and two. Swing and a high-fly ball right field. Roden balls it in and there’s one away. Now batting second. Back to the top of the lineup. Now here’s the leadoff hitter for the Royals. Jonathan India let off the game with a strike out. slapped foul and one up the middle and that one handled. Tosses to first. That’s an out. [Applause] Now batting shorts stop Bobby Wit Junior. Bobby Wit Jr. steps in for the Royals. fly to left his first time. And a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. 01’s the count in the air. Right field pretty well struck back there. Holds it in on the warning track. Home half of the third coming up. tied at one as we go to the last of the third. And now Allan Alan Roden fought off foul. Swanging a ground ball. Whit over to first. One gone. Bottom of the third inning. Now batting center fielder Nathan Lucas. Back to the leadoff spot in the Blue Jays lineup. Nathan Lucas now at the plate. The walk and a run scored his first time [Applause] and a foul ball. Lifted in the air right center field. Flying after this one. Makes a nice running catch. And there’s two away. They trust him in center field because he’s capable of making plays on the run. And we saw it right there. That’s a player you want patrolling center field. Someone who can attack the ball off the bat. Springer takes the ball as he stands in for the second time. That’s a good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. Two strike. Next offering upstairs. Really good take especially with two strikes. See youa strikes him out for the second time today. Down in order go the Blue Jays. Still tied 1-1. and welcome back to the ballpark. Out of the fourth fieldielder. So up now for Kansas City, Benny Pasquantino. had a breaking ball misses outside. Well, these Royals just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches. They’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations and that’s been true again today. That one misses and it’s three and0. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond. And they just keep eating right out of your hand. Definitely lost the handle during that sequence. Four pitches for the walk. And that last one didn’t even threaten the zone. Catcher might want to go talk to him. [Applause] And that one fouled off. Nobody out. Runner at first. [Applause] Grounder might be two. Flips to second. That’s one. Back to first. And that is a double play. Really nice double play turn right there. It all started with that sweet glove flip on the feed to second. You know, these middle infielders, they spend a lot of time honing that glove work. So, it just becomes like second nature. I think you also have to have a really good glove that’s broken in that’s not too large so that you can have a feel for that baseball and be able to flip it like you’re bare-handed. Perez in the box now. No balls in a strike. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four in the air right field. Roden hauls it into Indiana. No runs, no hits, no errors. And midway in the fourth, all tied 1-1. And we’re back. John Chami and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Junior, let’s go. [Music] MVP that is upstairs for ball one. Well, these Jays doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. He’s only given up one run, but the starter’s pitch count is starting to get up there, and that might be the best news yet for this offense. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. And next for Toronto, Boette doubled his first time up. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Fast ball is outside. [Music] [Applause] [Music] That’s hard hit on the line. And there are two down. Now batting third baseman, Addison. Addison Barker. Next up for the Blue Jays. Flyed to right. His first time. That’s in for a strike. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. Next offering is down low. The 1-1 is fouled off. And there’s a ball all tied up. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. That one misses and now three and two. [Music] [Applause] He swings and hits a fly ball center field. Long run, tracks it down and that’s the inning. So they go quietly there. Onto the top of the fifth we go. All tied 1-1. Back here at Rogers Center and now the DH Randic. Randic. Sherzer back to work. Gritic measures 6’2 in 33 years old. He’s usually in right field, but today he’s getting the DH treatment. Up and in. One and one. Well, a nice day off for him, not having to jog out to the outfield. Gets to be in the DH spot. Be curious to see how he keeps himself in a rhythm, not playing defense. That misses the zone. Two and one. That’s inside. Well, these Royals, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’ve been chasing pitches outside the zone all game, and it’s led to some frustrating moments. They’ve been fooled quite a bit today. [Music] Hard hit left side, fires over to Guerrero and the lead offense set down in their half of the fifth. Now batting right fielder John Ra stepping in John Rae. [Music] That misses ball one. Swinging a foul out of play [Music] [Applause] [Music] on the ground to third. And that’s a fair ball. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. And now, let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. At the plate, Luke Mey struck out swinging his first time. Just missed. Man at first, one away. Toronto. The bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. One and one. A sliding stop at short. Here’s one to first. Nice pick. Double play. And that’s the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Home half of the fifth coming up. All tied 1-1. [Applause] Back now in Toronto. Now it’s going to be Ernie Clement Ernie Clement. There’s the strike. Well, these Blue Jays just aren’t putting together very many good at bats in this one. With just one hit in the game, they’re clearly frustrating and searching for answers at this point. Thing about frustration though, it gets you nowhere as a hitter. It’s easy to get there, but the best thing you can do is simplify the approach and take things one pitch at a time. [Music] [Applause] [Music] That just misses. It’s a ball in two strikes. [Applause] And a swing and a miss. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. Well, that’s such a critical pitch in terms of execution right there. The pitcher has to finish it otherwise probably gets hit pretty hard. If you leave that out over the plate or you don’t get it down enough, quickly turns into something that gets smoked. But if you can place it where he did, it’s a really deceptive pitch. And the batter now, Joey Lrafido, struck out swinging his first time. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Yeah, the lefty with the 01. This one chopped on the ground but foul and ball one two strike. [Applause] Hit hard on the ground to short. Zips it to first. Whole half of the fifth inning. Moving along. Two quick outs. We talk about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher’s hand. the way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. Well, on the mound, very efficient, able to produce an outcome. It seems like within the third or fourth pitch of just about every at bat. Hinaman batting for the second time. And that’s strike one. This game has been so tight. Feels like the next team to score will win it. Love how vocal the umpire is today. No doubt in the hitter’s mind, catcher’s mind, and even the pitcher’s mind as to the conviction in the call. Swinging a ball popped in the air out to shallow center and that is the third out of the inning. Blue Jays go down in order. Score remains deadlocked at one. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. Stepping in is the speedy number two. Come on. Let’s go. That misses and that is ball. That’s one and0. Swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there’s one away. Jonathan Indie at the plate. Full for two in this one in the air left field down the line. Dives. What a play. That was a nice diving catch right there. Great effort, but if you look closely at his route, it it wasn’t as direct to the ball as you’d like to see. The angle initially not very good, but you have to credit him with making an adjustment, laying out, and getting the out. Nice job. And the batter will be the shortstop, Bobby Whit Jr. Inside, just missed. [Applause] Two down, nobody on. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Looked like it was a little bit up. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. [Music] There’s the strike. [Music] [Applause] That’s to third, but it kicks foul. That one missed. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Two down to swing and a miss and he got him and it’s a three up three down inning. Nothing across here this half. 91 and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the six. All tied 1-1. Bottom of the sixth inning. Now it’s the right fielder Allen. Fielder Alan Roden. Yeah. The first offering a fast ball for a strike in the air. Center field on the move. Puts it away for the out. up next for the Blue Jays. So, the lineup flips over and now it’s gonna be Nathan Lucas. He’s 0 for one. [Music] And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. [Applause] And a fast ball clips the outside corner for a strike. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom of the sixth. just missing there and the count is one and two. Well, that’s kind of what you expect in an O2 count. Excellent job of the hitter to have the play disciplined and there’s a rocket into the outfield. Takes the turn. He’s digging for second. the throw in and he’s into second base with one away as the go ahead run. Good two- strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for Song. So, that was nicely done to beat the odds. He got a pitch he could get to out front. Kept his bat through the ball and didn’t pull off or roll his hands over. And that allowed him to rip that ball down the line for the double. A chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. Here’s George Springer. Basketball is outside. and fouled off. Man at second. Worm Burner into the outfield for a knock. Brown’s third headed to the plate. He will score and they take the lead. It’s an RBI single. It’s two to one. Love how he let that ball travel. Trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. One down, runner at first. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Next up for the Blue Jays, step off, throw to first and Springer’s in there safely. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. 01’s the count. Not even close there. And that’s ball one. Activity in the Kansas City bullpen. Rich Hill, a left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. Clark warming up as well. [Applause] Runner on the goal. Swing and a miss. Throw to second out at second. Well, I think that was a hit and run right there when you look at how far that pitch was out of the zone and the hitter still trying to put wood on it. put it in play. That tells you that they had something going. But unfortunately, it was a good job of execution by the pitcher and the catcher to get that out of the zone and then throw out the runner at second base. Really nice job behind the dish. [Applause] That’s a laser base hit. So, the inning is still alive with Bo Bett coming to the dish. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. Absolutely punished that pitch. Wasn’t fooled in the slightest. 109 off the bat. I think that means you put a pretty good swing on it. [Applause] Bette in the box now as he leaves that one up high. Guerrero leads off first with two down to the inning [Applause] and it’s fouled away. [Music] [Applause] Off the plate inside. Two and one. [Applause] Rips one to right. Fair ball. Guerrero around second. Headed for third. Coming home. Safe. It’s 3-1. Picks himself up an RBI. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep, took the barrel right to it, and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. And the Royals manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Noah Cameron won’t go any further. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching for Rich Hill on the pitch here. And that’s a big potential run out there at second as he comes in trying to keep the deficit where it is for the infielders. They got to be thinking about keeping the ball from getting by them into the outfield any way they can. So runner at second, two down. Addison Barger getting ready to hit. just missed. Small one. Runner at second. Two down. [Applause] That one inside and it’s two and 0. [Applause] that finds the mark on the inside corner. [Music] Lined into right. He’s got it and that’ll do it. But two runs for him and they jump ahead. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the Blue Jays three and the Royals won. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top of inning number seven. And here is Vinnie Pasquantino. That’s in there. That’s strike one. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Chad Green preparing to come on if needed. Little getting loose as well. [Music] Swings through that one. It really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball, excellent slider, but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there. Mad Max notches the K. A big first out here in the seventh via the punch out. Yeah, it just does so much to change the outlook of an important inning like this when you got the leadoff hitter so critical in setting the table when you got a tight game like this. So a strikeout really puts them on their heels. Now pitching out of the bullpen for the Jays, Chad Green, number 57. And this is appearance number 45. Chad Green. Now here is Mikel Garcia. One for two. Fouled off. He was late. Let’s go. The Jays trying to protect a two-run lead here in the top half of inning number seven. Next offering is fouled back. [Music] bows it off. Still one and two. Good job to fight that one off. Yeah, there’s a ball. Two strikes. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And there’s two away. Now batting first base and now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. [Applause] Deep drive down the line. Foul ball. All over the first pitch fast ball right there, but just a little bit out front. Got to let it travel just a bit more. Next one off the plate inside. And it’s one and one. The 1-1 is fouled off. Foul ball still a one and two count. You got this on the ground to the left. Barger in plenty of time to first. Royals set down in order. Royals bats are quiet there and they still trail it here. Three to one. [Music] Set for the last half of the seventh. Now it’s the second baseman Ernie Clement and first offering is fouled off [Music] [Applause] on the ground and it goes just foul. [Music] Ground ball right side. India throws to first. One up, one down. Now batting left fielder Joey Loperido. So up next for Toronto, Joey Lerido. Out towards right center. That’s well struck and out of here. Third home run of the season and they add to the lead. It’s 4-1. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the boot. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Base is empty, one away. Here’s the Toronto catcher, Tyler Heinman. And the first pitch misses in the dirt. [Applause] One down, base is empty. And the one miss is low. Hill maybe a little less aggressive on the mount right now after that home run, Chris. Yeah, it seems that way. You know, pitchers, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch. They’re not trusting their stuff. Three down. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball but missed the spot. That just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy at the play was not going to help him out by swinging it something out of his own. Allan Rhoden next up for the Blue Jays. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? No, partner. Every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and then you have a great show. Uh so perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken up, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. [Applause] So a foul ball makes it one and two. Yeah, that’s too high. [Applause] [Applause] Next one is off the plate and the count’s full. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Swang and a line drive. Base hit out into center field. Quick throw back in. Lead runner holds at second with one gone. Love how he became a really tough out with two strikes right there. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. Next to hit, Nathan Lucas. First pitch misses. Could use a ground ball here. Something in the infield. Runner at first base. Get two. Get out of this. [Applause] Hard hit to third to India at second for one over to Perez for the inning ending double play. Toronto picks up one on this homer. It’s now a 4-1 ball game. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Brendan Little and he’s been fantastic this year. Really stingy in terms of allowing base runners. He’s just got great stuff that’s tough to square up. Little leading off Randall Gritic. First offering in the dirt. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Jeff Hoffman, the closer getting cranked up for a possible save opportunity. swings through that. Pitching has been pretty dominant in this one, but you got to be careful not working with too big a lead. They could get right back in this ball game if you’re not careful. [Music] Swing and a highf fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] fights it off. He’ll see another. [Applause] Fights that one away. Still one and two. That’s a ball. That one missed. [Music] Got him. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Well, we saw a solid effort out of their starter and the bull is following suit. It’s just a good day as a manager or as a pitching coach when you can hand the ball off to multiple arms and get stability from all of their performances. Ray batting with one down, takes a strike. Lefty continues to work, but the closer getting loose in the bullpen. Swing and a miss. in that strike two. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Swing and a ground ball base hit right field. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Now batting catcher Luke Mey. And now the catcher comes up to hit Luke Mey. And that’s downed away. Little the lefty who lights up the radar gun. He features a sinker, a curb, and occasionally uses a cutter. Now, this guy’s definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Ray stands at first with one out. Come on, let’s go. Here’s a swing and a line drive and a base hit to right field. Throw into third and the throws off line. Safe at third. Couple of singles back to back. Now a huge at bat in this game coming up. And now the center fielder on the ground to third onto second. They get one relay to Guerrero in time. Inning ending double play. So it’s no runs on two base hits, no errors and one man left. Home half of inning number eight straight ahead. It’s the Blue Jays four and the Royals one. Pitching for back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Taylor Clark just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. And it’ll be George Springer to step to the plate. designated hitter, George Springer. And that one is downstairs. And that’s ball one. Swinging a foul straight back [Music] on the ground right side and that chance handled. Now the throw to first on the run. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. It doesn’t really matter where you are in the lineup. Your job is to get on base and try to start a rally if you’re leading off an inning. So, an infield single does the job right there. Now, we’ll see if they can make something happen. So, a man at first, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. next up for the Blue Jays. And a slider in there for a strike. 0 and one. Bullpen action for the Royals. Sam Long, the young lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. going now spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another foul ball. Still 0 and two. Swings through and for the K. went back to the slider and it was a good idea. That’s that classic wipeout slider below the zone right there. Just nasty. Looks like a fast thigh high that you got to protect the zone and then it’s just that late break that fools you and kind of makes you look silly. Bet the next to hit takes ball one. Just off the inside edge. The other way. He’s got it. And there’s two away. [Music] Addison Barker will hit next for three in this one. Clark throws to first and Springer’s in there safely. Got it started a little too early. Strike one. Filthy change up right there. Just pulled the string. That breaking ball drops in for a strike. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. Here’s the O2. They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away. All right, here we go. This to third to second. India. That ends the frame. Blue Jays held in check, but they lead it four to one. Now pitching. We’re back. And on the mound is the closer Jeff Hoffman. He’s got some of the best swing and miss stuff going right now. He’s striking out hitters at a very high rate this year. So, this should be fun to watch. Back to the top of the order. And now Jonathan India. And remember, he was absolutely robbed of a base hit last time up. First pitch and he just misses. Hoffman. pretty much every manager’s dream coming out of the pen. High strikeout, low walk. That is a recipe for success. And that one is popped in the air. Shallow center and that’ll fall for a base hit. And a good start to the inning. He gets labeled as a bad ball hitter cuz he’s just got that special knack of doing damage with pitches outside the zone. He’s just really good at it. So up next, Bobby Whit Jr. bounding ball here. Rolls foul. Well, for a manager when you can have that one special arm in the bullpen that you know is just reliable. Tell you what, that makes his job a whole lot easier to manage a ball club and it stays fair. And now runners at the corners, nobody out. Now batting left fielder Vinnie Pascantino. Now the left fielder Vinnie Pascantino. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. Ball one. And as a hitter, are you thinking swing from pitch one? I’m trying to get comfortable. I’m trying to recognize what’s he got today. What’s he going to throw? How’s he going to come at me? Try to get as much intel as you possibly can to give yourself a chance to succeed. The tying run at the plate. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. [Applause] In the dirt. Ball three. Tying run at the plate. Knee high. That’s in for a strike. Well, so many hardth throwing relievers in the game these days. You would think that hitters have made the adjustment, but I don’t know if you ever get used to it. Just pumping gas out of the bullpen. So hard to play catchup. with the tying run at the plate here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] Ball four. He walked in and that’ll keep the line moving. They’re not ready to go home quite yet. Not batting third base Mike. And now it’ll be the cleanup spot for the Royals. Mel Garcia one for three. [Applause] just missed. I need a strike out and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something. But you got to make some pitches but if he can battle and get through this grounded to third could be two. Barker toss the second and a run scores on the double play. It’s always great when you can add a run but in this situation with the bases loaded double play is kind of a rally killer. So, they’re down to their final out. And next up for the Royals, Salvador Perez [Applause] gets the slider in there for a strike. [Music] [Applause] The Royals down to their final strike. One ball squirts away a little bit. Runner stays put at third. Two balls, two strikes. [Applause] ground ball and this should do it. In comes the run from third and it’s an RBI single. It’s 43. Well, back within one as he brings home the run. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. He didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. Now it’s the DH. Randall Gritic 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Well, with the tying run at first base, he’s looking for something he can get a lot of barrel on. Drive it into a gap and score that run from first base. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And now it’s even one and one. They’re down to their final strike. Really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. Bows it off. Still one and two. [Applause] Two outs. Bounced up the middle. Bette and that is the ball game. Start of a new month is a great chance to hit the reset button. Whether you’re coming in hot or cold, getting that win today is a great feeling to continue through the rest of the month. 4-3 our final score. They hang on to win it by a run. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shambi saying so long. What the heat?
