That's the added detail, per ESPN, and the detail of how they and the Astros "bridged a significant financial gap," per what Passan said on Shitter, to revive a deal that looked dead yesterday.
The 30-year-old Correa is owed a combined $91.5 million from 2026 to 2028, with club options from 2029 to 2032, and sources told ESPN's Buster Olney that the Twins, motivated to shed salary while in an ownership transition, will take on $33 million as part of the trade.
He has $37 million and change this year, and one third of that is $12.5M, plus the three fully guaranteed years of $33/$32/$31M after this. (ESPN's math a bit diff from B-Ref contract numbers.) So, about $109 million and $33M is 30 percent.
As for the club option years, they can also vest. For 2029, it would require 575 PAs in 2028, or a major award. He had 580 PAs in 2023, so, call this "not likely."
UPDATE: Per u/HandsomeJack19, yeah, if you're going to eat that much, you should get more than:
Matt Mikulski, a 26-year-old lefty who is still in A ball, went from the Astros' system to the Twins'.
Yeah, he'll never sniff an MLB clubhouse, in all likelihood.

For eating that much they should have gotten a much better prospect in return. Not one of the Astros top 10 prospects or anything like that, but definitely better than a nothing A-ball reliever that won’t even sniff the major leagues.

Yup, they signed a bad contract. Just like I said before Alex signed it. Should have only been a 3-4 year contract.
“No, man, I ain’t paying you 109. Twins are paying 1/3 your salary. That’s what the Minnesota Twins think of you,”
Remembering when i got downvoted for saying a team would be overpaying him during his free agency. When you have a long swing, you get figured out
Good thing he didn’t have triplets then I guess
Agree shouldâve landed a better prospect ⌠BUT it beats eating 100% of $103 million for a .1 WAR player whoâs on the decline.
This is how you know their owners truly do not give a single fuck
You guys all seem to be forgetting Correa was only waiving his no trade clause for 1 team. The Astros had ALL the leverage
Thatâs $33 million pissed away for what?
The teardown pisses me off, and I am not even a Twins fan.
Whenever new ownership comes in, they better pledge to do better than the Polhads and really support the team financially.
For 2029, it would require 575 PAs in 2028, or a major award…Â
So a leg lamp?!
I genuinely think the silver spoon joe pooplahd was salty that so many twins fans want to put him on a spike and let the birds peck at him that he told Derek âhey youâre toast anyway with new ownership coming in. Letâs burn this thing down togetherâ. Two 𤥠made for eachother.
Houston hasn’t been this happy since Browns took Watson.
Eating or throwing in the TRASH can? Weâll never know
I am depressed
Can anyone explain why his WAR is so low? At first glance his stats donât seem all that bad.
At least the Twins got a bunch of heaping piles of dog shit in return for seven players. Duran was the only decent trade. Trading Louie felt like a personal fuck you from the Pohlads. Absolutely no reason to do it other than a middle finger to the people that love this team.
Twins are going to be horseshit for years to come. But hey! At least the farmer thieves are gonna make a billion dollars!
This reeks of BS to me. Correa gets to go home to the team he grew up with for literally nothing in return
