BREAKING: SAN JOSE SHARKS SIGN WILLIAM EKLUND TO A CONTRACT EXTENSION!
The San Jose Sharks have signed William Ecklan to a contract extension. I’m JD Young of Locked on Sharks and the former first round pick of the 2021 draft uh gets a three-year deal at 5.6 million AAV. Uh the deal doesn’t kick in until the 2627 season as William has one more year on his ELC. Um interesting kind of taking the bridge approach with Ekkan who has been a very good player for the San Jose Sharks. Uh hitting 58 points last year for San Jose, second on the team. U but with the cap going up, I can see Ekkan in his camp wanting to maybe get that long-term deal down the road. But this does secure William Ecklan uh you know in teal for the next now four years hopefully uh as Eklan and this Sharks team continues their rebuild. So we have more on your next episode of Locked on Sharks wherever you get podcasts. Of course you can watch on YouTube as
Former first-round pick William Eklund signs a 3-year contract extension that will pay him $5.6m AAV starting in the 2026-27 season.

Ouch. He's gonna get PAID when this one is up
why is he getting a bridge deal?!???
Eklund worked Grier.
He probably refused to sign long term to a team dead set on losing for a few more years
I don’t think either wanted term, makes him an effective trade piece if needed
Should have locked him up for 8 but it's a smart business decision for Willy and his agent. Hopefully this doesn't hurt us down the line when it's time for Mack and Smith to get their raise and we gotta resign Eklund.
Grier doesn’t want to pay Eklund long term because we’re stacked up front with Mack, Will, Misa (and possibly McKenna?)
Giving him 8 years would’ve become a problem in the future when all of those guys need an extension in 3 or 4 years.
Plus Eky wasn’t a Grier pick, so he has no strings attached
I think the sharks are going to have to show something with their young talent before players want to sign here.
