🔴LIVE 🔴New York Yankees VS Miami Marlins/August 1st/Mlb Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25

First pitch moments away and on the hill Tyler Phillips and Singi it’s unique these days but he’s more of a pitch to contact type of guy. Yeah, he doesn’t rely too heavily on the strike out. He knows he needs to miss barrels, get some soft contact, let the defense do work behind him. And I think a guy like that that can keep a good tempo, don’t give hitters time to adjust or think, they can move through a ball game and you look up, they’re in line for a quality start. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Ben Rice, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. First pitch, 711. Fouled off. He was late. The one-1 is fouled off. Yeah, the one two misses to even the count. Just missed. Was good pitch there. really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. I don’t think he really wanted to pitch to him right there. Anyhow, here’s Paul Goldmid. Swinging a liner foul off to the right. now a screamer into the outfield and a base hit. Round’s third headed for the plate. He will score and they take the lead. Just so sound in his mechanics. hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Here’s the veteran outfielder, Cody Bellinger. Another solid power season. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Bellinger’s dad won a couple of World Series rings in 1999 and 2000. Clay was a backup infielder with the New York Yankees. And that misses and the count is one and one. In the 2023 season, Cody’s dad Clay made a trip to Wrigley Field and sat in the right field bleachers to watch his son play. That’s kind of cool. man at second. O, that one went straight back and got our ump right in the mask. Let’s hope he’s okay. Hit in the air center field. Meyers pulls it down and there’s one down as we take a look now at the New York Yankees lineup. And Chris, this group has been struggling to put up runs lately. Well, they haven’t been on base a ton. And even when they are, they haven’t been hitting very well with runners on base. So, they need a player or two to really step up, have some quality at bats, hit according to the situation, and sort of break out of this. I think if they do, the rest of this lineup will follow. John Carlos Stanton batting with one down, takes a strike that misses and the count even one and one. They’ve got him working a little harder in this first frame than he anticipated. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. That’s outside. Three and two now. Goldie over at second. One down. Comebacker to the mound and they take care of Stanton for the outdis Jr. Jazz Chisum Jr. now he’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate. It’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. Swings through that one for strike one. Next offering is fouled back. Righty delivers that one way inside. Next pitch is outside. Two balls, two strikes. Runner at second. Two down. Still two and two after the foul ball. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Got him looking. That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. A run, a hit, and a man left. Onto the bottom of the first. Yankees won. And the Marlins coming up back here in Miami. Our starter in this one, Marcus Strowman. And Chris, he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough. Yeah, he’s definitely had a struggle so far this year, as evidenced by that inflated whip, but he’s going to have to find a way to limit the base runners, put his team in a position to win a ball game. So, we know he’s prepared. We know this guy is a competitor, and we’ll watch how he works in this one. Xavier Edwards leading things off and takes a strike. Foul tip. Oh, that got our umpire. And it looks like it got him upstairs. Swing and a miss. And he chases that one in the dirt. Beats him for the first out. And that completes the strike out. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. And up next for Miami, Jesus Sanchez. First pitch misses. One out. Base is empty to the right side. throws to first in time. And time now for the Marlins lineup. This is a good offense, Chris. You’re going to get quality at bats and balls put in play consistently with this group. And it doesn’t really matter who they’re facing on the mound. They have the ability to go out and compete and win ball games. Um if it’s an all-star or Sai Young award winner to just a rookie up in the big leagues. So when you have that, you have a chance to win every night. If I was a pitcher on this team, I’d feel pretty good about taking them out for him. Augustine Ramirez in the box now. No balls in a strike. And that’s in the dirt. Swing and a miss. One and two. He has a tendency to chase out of the zone and that slider that’s down. That’s one of his money pitches to get that swing and miss. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Miami down in order. They’re down one- nothing. Back here in Lone Depot Park, all set for the start of the inning. Digging in as the switch inning outfielder Jason Dominguez. Phillips back to work. Dominguez getting to start in left, batting sixth in today’s lineup. And he was born in the Dominican Republic. Next offering is in for a strike. right back to him on the mound. Leadoff man retired here in the second. Austin Slater stands in. Pitch misses and that is ball one. Looks like he thinks that should have been a strike at the top of the zone, but doesn’t seem to be too upset. That’s just a case where I think he’s trying to get a better feel for the umpire strike zone and what he’s going to be calling. That’s just a part of pitching. And that one off the outside edge. This one high in the air to left center. Hernandez on the move to the gap. He’s got it. And there’s two away. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He’s safe extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Ryan McMahon stands in now and watches strike one. Two outs. Base is empty. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. And the sweeper misses for a ball. Come on, you can do it inside. Almost got him. And down on strikes he goes. And it’s a three up, three down inning. Yanks held in check, but they hold a one- nothing lead. And we’re back. Bottom of the second. And now here’s the Marlins DH. Kyle Stersy. Close but called a ball. And that’s ball one. Just missed and a foul ball makes the count. Two and one. Right through there for a strike. Got him. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. Batting fifth. The short stop. And now it’s going to be Otto Lopez. Lopez ripped into right center. And that should be extra bases. Makes the turn and heads for second. Not stopping. He’s going for three. And he’s got himself a triple. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Just a really nice approach to shoot that line drive to the opposite field. There’s a lot of hard work and discipline that goes into getting a result like that at the plate. Doesn’t come naturally for most hitters. One down, runner at third. Now here is Troy Johnston. And that is out of play. Lopez takes his lead at third with one away. Line drive. That’s a base hit. The tying run is in to score from third and it’s an RBI single. It’s 1-1. Comes through with the RBI. Takes an inside pitch and just fillets it over there to left field. And that’s all he had to do is gets up to the outfield grass to push that run across. One down, runner at first. And stepping in, the rookie left fielder, Ariberto Hernandez. That clips a corner. Runner on the goal. Next offering pop foul off to the right. Out of play. on the ground and that’s just foul. Man at first, one away. Hot shot to third. Throws to second for one. Double play. What a twin killing to end the inning. onto the third inning. And stepping in for the Yankees, Anthony Vulpi. That one inside. One and0. turned on, but that’s fouled down the third baseline. Ripped to third, sends it across to first. One up, one down. Now batting catcher Ben Rice. Stepping in the long ball threat. Ben Rice. He walked and came around to score his first time up. misses off the play and it’s one and0. Tied up here in the early going. Grounder off the pitcher. Oh, come on. Safe at first. And now we’ll check on the right-hander. Hope he’s all right. Definitely some concern here. That ball came back and got him right on the pitching arm as you can see him trying to shake it off. And if nothing else, you worry about him getting some dead arm and losing some feeling. But from what I can tell, I think they’re going to let him continue. And that’s a really good sign. Run around at first with one gone. Now the number two hitter, Paul Goldmid, run around to go. Cut on and miss. Throw to second. Save. swings and misses and it’s nothing in two. Well, he’s been aggressive right out of the box and a smart pitcher is going to play off of that, especially when you get to two strikes. Ball one there. 02 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. One out and a runner at second. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Swinging a ground ball slings to first and they get Goldmid for the out. Up next for the Yankees, center fielder Cody Bellinger. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Here’s the center fielder, Cody Bellinger. He’s 0 for one. That one fouled off. Highfly ball out into left center field. Lopez moving under this one and makes the grab. And that is that one left for the Yankees. Still tied 1-1. And welcome back to the ballpark as we go to the last of the third. Now here is Graham Paulie. Foul ball there. Swings and misses. 0 and two. Got him. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Well, he went up there trying to be aggressive, that’s for sure. Hacking at those first two pitches, but clearly that last one fooled him. He could have been sitting on something else entirely. But you want to be able to adjust on 0 and two and at least get a swing off when it’s in the zone. Maybe choke up, maybe spread out your stance a little bit. You got to give the guy credit on the mound, though. He went right after him. That one found hard the other way. can’t glove it cleanly. Still finds a way to get off a throw and they get the out. Good recovery. Wasn’t easy following the misplay. Second base. So the lineup flips over and now it’s the switchhitting second baseman Xavier Edwards. He’s 0 for one. That’s in there. Strike one. Inside corner and that’s called a strike. and down on strikes and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down one two three nothing doing for the Marlins score remains tied 1-1 back here in Miami out of the fourth in now is the Yankees DH John Carlos Stanton there’s the strike you know these Yankees He’s doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only given up one run, but the starter’s pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. That’s a play you expect your shortstop to make pretty much every time. Pretty routine. Hard to tell if he didn’t get a great grip on it or the mechanics on him just broke down, but that gives this offense an extra out to work with. Here’s the second baseman. Jazz Chisum Jr. struck out looking at his first at bat. Fast ball in for a strike. 01. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Here comes the 01. Just missed. Signs of activity in the pen for the Marlins. Jansen Junk appears to be getting loose. Quantrol also getting ready. Stanton gets his lead at first. Nobody out. Next offering is downstairs. Way to lay off that pitch down. and he takes one right on the black. It’s two and two. Getting a little frustrated with the strike zone. 3-2 now on this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Boo. Jason Dominguez in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Nobody out. Runner at first. Got him looking. That K is his third of the game. Well, big strikeout right there and maybe a little controversial with the call. I think he got a little bit of favor on the mound. No question about it. It’s not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that. And I’m sure there’s some chirping going on from the dugout making it clear that wasn’t his best call behind the plate today. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Tyler Phillips departs and that’s an excellent job from the reliever in the starting role today. Gave him some length. Back with a new arm after this. Number 66 into the game. This southpaw’s been really good against left-handed hitters. Here’s the left fielder, Jason Dominguez. Grounded out his first time up. That’s down and in. All tied up. Top half of inning number four. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Johnston makes the grab for the second out. Now batting right fielder Austin Slater. And now the right fielder Austin Slater fly to left his first time. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Hernandez on the move to the alley and that is that. The Yanks leave one. Score remains deadlocked at one. Back here in Lone Depot Park. Bottom four. And at the plate for Miami, Jesus Sanchez. Sanchez. That one drifts inside. You know, these Marlins, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone, and those chases that are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see. But I think they have to. And there’s a fly ball deep right field. And this one looks like trouble. Now he’ll turn for second. And it’s a leadoff double to start the bottom of the fourth. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. A lot of times in today’s game, right fielders are able to get to a ball that stays in like that, but he hit that one pretty well. And if he hits it just a little bit different on the barrel, it’s out of here easily. But there’s nothing wrong with the extra bases right there. Augustine Ramirez, the next up for the Marlins. struck out swinging his first time. Swing and a chopper out to short over to Goldie. One out in the bottom of the fourth. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. So, now it’s the four-hole hitter Kyle Stard. He was a strikeout victim his first time. And that one fouled off. Swing and a chopper. Takes it to the bag. steps on first and it’s out number two. Now batting short stop Lopez. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Otto Lopez the next up for the Marlins. One for one. He tripled in his first trip. That’s hard hit in the line. Bellinger grabs it on the run. One left for Miami. Fifth inning coming up. Tied at one. Ready now for the fifth inning. Ryan McMahon steps to the plate. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. What you tell yourself is I want to stay square to the plate to try to hit the ball over the shorts stop’s head. First pitch just misses McMahon in his eighth season, 30 years old now and he was a second round pick back in 2013. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation ahead 200. He’s put himself in a really good spot. Here’s a 200 in there at the knees for a strike. Hit hard. Should be extra bases around first and hustling for second. In safely, it’s a leadoff double in the fifth. Well, they call that an advantage count for a reason. You’re so much more likely to get something you can handle. I’ll tell you, when you smoke a line drive into the gap like that, I mean, sure, home runs are king, but I feel like nothing makes you feel like a true professional hitter more than a bolt the other way. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. Go ahead run on base. And here is Anthony Vulpi. The shorts stop takes a ball. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. Man at second. hard on the ground to first and he takes it himself for the out. Not a bad outcome in that spot. The runner moves up to third and now they have a chance to drive in the go-ahead run. It’s not a knock, but at the end of the day, it’s a good at bat. Back to the top of the Yankee order. Here’s the Yankees catcher now, Ben Rice. You have to stay disciplined in these at bats. Try not to chase. A strike out here is the last thing you want. Worm burner into the outfield for a knock. In comes the runner from third. It’s an RBI single and a 2-1 ball game now. Mission accomplished there as he picks up the RBI to give him the lead. He wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it. Right on time, good balanced approach and just blasted it through the infield. Goldie in the box again takes the strike. dives, but it kicks off his glove. Unbelievable to first and he beats it. Everyone’s safe. Well, with his speed, he doesn’t get a whole lot of those infield hits, but he was giving it everything he had right there. Fielder got a piece of it, but the way that thing came off the bat, no surprise at all. He couldn’t pick it cleanly. It’s a very difficult play and that swing definitely was deserving of a hit. Here comes Belly to take his cuts. B for two in this one. fought off foul Miami. Strike it out. Next pitch off the play. It’s a ball in two strikes. Swing and a pop up. Foul territory for the catcher. Brings it in and there are two outs. Jean Carlos Stanton. And here is John Carlos Stanton. Oh, look out here. He’s going to come up ready to swing in this situation and misses inside. Rice over at second. Goldie at first. Two out of the inning. Swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Makes the grab and that’s the third out. So, one run in the inning on this base hit and it’s now a two-1 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Bottom of the inning. And now for the Marlins. Troy Johnston. Troy John. Strowman back to work on the outside corner. That’s strike one. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. Swing and a miss. Chased it out of the zone. Talk about tying a guy up. That was ugly. That missed by a lot. One and two to count. stays alive. The wine, the kick, and the one, two foul ball left side. He’ll see another cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. Good late cut for the strike out there. That thing really got in on him. And you know, the cutter isn’t really a huge swinging miss pitch most of the time because it’s not really meant to move a whole lot. You’re just trying to miss the big part of the barrel and maybe get some weak contact, but that one right there did a whole lot more than that. That was a really good pitch. Hernandez in the box now as he looks at ball one. Second played appearance of the day for him. it on the ground to short. Vulpi. Whips it across. Home man for the fifth inning. Moving along. Two quick outs. And up next for Miami, Graham Paulie caught looking his first time up. That’s a strike 0 and one. Breaking ball in there for a strike. Swings and he pops it up near the pitcher mouth. Strowman. And that’ll do it. Offense held in check there. We’re through five. It’s the Yankees two and the Marlins one. Jansen Junk takes over on the mound. And he’s been hit pretty hard at times this year, so he’s looking for better right now. giving up more than a hit per inning. Well, one-run game and stepping in for the Yankees, Jazz Chisum Jr. who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. That’s in for a strike at 95. It’s 0 and one. Miami’s bullpen with some action. Anthony Bender, the right-handed sinker baller. He looks to be readying himself. Tap foul at the plate. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. And that gets down into the gap around first. Heading for two. and he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double. Still able to come through behind in the count right there. Anytime you can drive a ball into the gap the other way, it feels so good. And that’s when you know you’re right where you need to be at the plate. It’s even better when it gets you extra bases. Got to love looking in at your dugout and seeing your teammates fired up. And next for New York, Jason Dominguez. And there’s the strike. Clips the corner. No balls, two strikes. Well, you can’t expect to get a great pitch to hit with an open base and a runner on second. And he’s going to have to really tighten up his sights here. Make sure that he can barrel up the ball. That one not close. And the count is one and two. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Look out. And it hit him. He had him one two and he ends up hitting him with a pitch. First and second, no outs. Slater the next to hit. And that one ripped to left. No trouble here. Puts it away for the owl. And that is a big first out. Ryan McMahon. There’s Ryan McMahon now. One for two. First offering and it just misses. Could use a ground ball here. Something in the infield. Runner at first base. Get two. Get out of this. up and in. Two and 0. Home plate umpire is trying to tighten things up a little bit. Swings through that one out in front that time. Pitch misses there. Three and one. Anthony Vulpi waiting to hit for the Yankees. All right, let’s go. The 3-1. That one is absolutely belted. That’s down. One hops off the wall. One runs in. Safe. And they’re up by three. Well, he was a little off balance. He got the front foot down, but was so great at keeping the hands back and allowed him still to get good wood to this baseball. Big one there as he drives in a couple of runs. One out, runner at second. Vulpi will hit next. Has grounded out a couple of times. This one chopped on the ground but foul. Yankees up by three out in front and foul to the left side swings and misses. Couldn’t hit the fast ball at the knees. Now, and up next for New York, Ben Rice intentional walk here with two out. They set up a force at any base to end the inning. First and second, two outs. And stepping in for the Yankees, Paul Goldmid, line to left, Hernandez snags it. And that is that, but they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double. It’s now a 4-1 ball game. Back after this on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Shabi with Chris Singleton in the booth. And leading off the bottom of the sixth, Dane Meyers. That’s off the inside corner. Ball one. You know, these Marlins, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. They’ve hit seven line drives already. And even though some of them have been for outs, there’s nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact. That’s almost always going to lead to positive results. And it finds its way through for a hit. And that turns the lineup over. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Back to the top of the Miami order. Xavier Edwards the next up for the Marlins. Struck out on just three pitches last time. Check swing and he held up. runner on the move. Pitch is low. Throw and they got him. You know, something that’s often overlooked in a cod stealing situation is just that catcher’s footwork. These guys work so hard on just every aspect. receiving the pitch but then also getting into a position to get off a quick throw right there. That was perfect execution and it allowed him to get the throw down to second in time. The fish trailing by three here in the bottom of the six down the left field line. Looks like extra bases. Now he’ll turn for second and that’s a double. Well, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy, didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep, took the barrel right to it, and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Band at second with one away. Jesus Sanchez the next up for the Marlins. Next pitch is downstairs. Pretty frugal guy. He is very efficient with the pitch count in this one. Edwards leads off second with one gone in the inning. Oh, he’s really working that inside corner with the cutter. I tell you what, I hated that pitch. So tough to get the barrel to and to keep it fair. And now two and two. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Edwards around third. Here’s the throw to the plate. It’s offline. The run comes in. It’s 42. That’s a good job right there. You got two strikes on. You just got to battle. Now the catcher up to hit Augustine Ramirez. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Inside just missed. Action in the pen down there. Jonathan Loisa, the hardthrowing righty is up and loosening. De Los Santos getting cranked up as well. two. And that gets the inside corner for a strike. Little chopper rolls foul with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. blows the high heat past him. That’s a strike out. Now, and next is the designated hitter, Kyle Starders. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout. So those bats can stay hot. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. That’s a strike. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. Throw stops the lead runner at second. Two on and two out. Oh, that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there. I really like that swing, man. He didn’t just push it the other way through the infield. He drove it that way. And it kind of makes me think he was thinking opposite field as he stepped into the box. Got a pitch he liked and he got it done. Darren Boon makes his way out of the dugout and he will make a move to the bullpen. That’s it for Marcus Strowman and a nice effort out of him. No doubt. New arm coming on. We’ll be back for that in a moment. A new arm into the game. The righty Jonathan Loisa on for the 30th time this year. So, two on with two away. And at the plate for Miami, Otto Lopez and a big swing and a miss. Let’s go. Lisa fires swing and a miss. 98 on the gun. Definitely not a pitch location you’re expecting up there as a hitter when you know the guy’s got a good sinker ball. If he can get in that location, boy lined into left center. Should be extra bases. One runs in. Runner around third. He will score and the Marlins tie it up. Well, there you go. with the RBI machine. Another clutch runs scoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. So, runner at second, two down. Now at the plate, Troy Johnston. That breaking ball drops in for a strike. As a pitcher, you know, the runner on second is ready to push things with this speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run, so you really have to execute on the mound. Two outs and one in scoring position. Outside with a breaking ball, ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Lopez around third. He’ll score and it’s an RBI single and it’s now 54. Big swing of the bat right there to give him the lead. That was clutch. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Ariberto Hernandez the next up for the Marlins. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Ground ball up the middle. Vulpi. They get the force and they’re happy to just get off the field after that frame. So they move out in front after a fourrun outburst. We’re through six full. Marlins five and the Yankees four. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Kane Gibson. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. Well, one-run game and stepping in for the Yankees. Cody Bellinger 0 for three in this one. And that is downstairs. Ball one. This one in the air, Johnston. And there’s one away. That was a good hard fast ball with some nice ride up in the zone right there. Hitter looked like he was on it, but I think that velocity at the end just beat him. Instead of a line drive or something hit deep, it’s a pop up and an easy out for the defense. Stanton batting with one down, takes the strike. That slider breaking in can be a tricky pitch. If you don’t finish it and have that bite at the end and it stays out over the plate, it can get hit a long way. But that was a good one right there. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Everything came together for him. I know that was a ground ball, but it was absolutely hammered through the infield. That’s not one you’re excited to get in front of if you’re an infielder. You know, they used to say charge it. Crazy. Jazz Chisum Jr. getting ready to hit. One for three. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes. That’s ripped into the outfield. Out of here. His 19th home run of the year. It’s 65. Well, that swing changes things. Yes, it does. They were in striking distance and they found a way to fight back big time. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Now the Marlins manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Kade Gibson won’t go any further and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. Anthony Bender gets handed the rock out of the pen. Well, you see the RA very solid and that doesn’t always tell you the whole story, but he’s been really good so far this year. One down now. The left fielder Jason Dominguez a little bit high and that is ball one. Still only one out here in the inning. Next offering is in for a strike. Ground ball to the right side. Handles, throws to first. Two away. Up next for the Yankees, rightielder Austin. Now it’s the right fielder Austin Slater. Off the plate inside. And that’s ball one in the air left field down the line. And that’ll fall for a base hit. And that keeps the inning alive. Now batting third base. And next for New York, Ryan McMahon. He had a foul ball drive and that should be extra bases. Headed for the plate. He’ll score easily. Well done. Drives in the run. Man, that feels so good to shoot an absolute bolt the opposite way. Split the gap and know that you’ve got extra bases right off the bat. That’s the kind of thing hitters dream about when they’re falling asleep at night. So, runner at second, two down. Vulpi now at the plate. 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout. Swing and a ball ripped right field. that one back and that one is gone. He flexes his power with that swing. Second home run of the inning for him and they tack on to their lead. It’s 95. Singi, that’s his 50th career homer. 50 might not sound like a huge number, but it’s a nice little milestone that a lot of guys don’t get to. Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. We watch him from the on deck circle. So when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. Now the Marlins manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Anthony Bender won’t go any further tonight. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. Now, new pitcher for the Marlins, Cal Quantrol. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big erra. So, this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. Two outs, nobody on. And now Ben Rice. There’s a strike at the knees going. and foul ball. Two down to outside low. The countdown two and two. Cut on and missed and it’s a strikeout and that is the inning. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 95. You’re dialed into the show. Bottom of the seventh. Now the third baseman Graham Paulie. He swings and fouls one off. hammered on a line to the left. Base hit and the leadoff man aboard. Now batting center Dane Meyers the next to hit and it’s fouled away. Well, the leadoff man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. Headed towards the corner and a foul ball. Miami out to short. Vulpi whips it to first and one away in the bottom of the seventh. Good armside run to that same side hitter right there. Very difficult to put that ball in the air or get through it. Just bores in on the hands. Xavier Edwards will hit next. Bunch attempt but that goes foul. Man at second outside with a breaking ball. Yeah, the pitch is in for a strike and the count one and two. in the dirt. Laser could be trouble coming home. He will score around second now. Going for three. Picks himself up an RBI. They call those the alleys for a reason, man. They’re long and if you can’t cut the ball off as an outfielder before it gets by you, that hitter’s going to run for a while. That right there is a beautiful swing and nice hustle for the triple. Now, that sets up a huge at bat in this ball game. manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Jonathan Loisa done for the night and he leaves a runner at third. So we’ll see how the next pitcher deals with that when we get back. Pitching change here, Tim Hill. He doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers, so he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him. They’ll have to be on their toes with him on the bump. And now Jesus Sanchez fouled off left side. One swinging a foul straight back. One away with a runner at third here in the bottom of the seventh and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Next offering is down low. And there’s a ball. Misses off the inside and it’s a full count. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. So digging in, Augustinine Ramirez 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. And this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here. Swing and a tapper then rolls foul. Edwards on third with two out. bottom of the zone and a cold strike on the ground to third and it goes just foul. drilled in the air out towards right center. Bellinger under it. He’s got it. And that will end the inning. Marlins get a run on the RBI triple. It’s now a 96 ball game. We go to the eighth and now the first baseman Paul Goldmith. Paul Goldmith. Quantrol 30 years old now and he was born in Canada. Next pitch misses inside and the count now two and nothing. Swing and a ball lifted to center field. Meyers makes the play and there’s one away. Now batting the center. Here’s Cody Bellinger. And that is in for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. And that one fouled off. Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top of the eighth. That one to first. And that’s just foul. Next pitch is outside and delivers outside. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That’s the second out. Well, that’s the effect of the splitter that you’re looking for on the mound. Really nice pitch right there and had him out in front over the top. I’m sure the batter was thinking he was getting something else. Perhaps a fast ball with a little more straight and vo to it. Stanton in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike down the line and that lands in no man’s land. A foul ball the O2 in the air right side. Sanchez on the run couldn’t get to it before it dropped foul. throwing the ball well and they need this scoreless inning and relief right here. Been doing a good job keeping them in striking distance and ball one and that skips in the dirt. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. fights it off. You’ll see another check swing on the 2-2. Appeal to first. It did not go around. base hit. That was smoked through the infield. And after grinding through that at bat, he gets the best of him. Love how he let that ball travel, trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. And up next for New York, Jazz Chisum Jr. He’s already homerred in this game. First pitch misses. Boo. The runner at first, needs to be careful right here. He’s dealing with a pickoff artist on the mound. Miami. Two outs. And another ball. And that’s off the outside edge. Ball three. Here we go. And ball four, two aboard. Not what he wanted to do right there, Boo. That keeps this inning alive. Puts a runner into scoring position and a chance for this offense to add on to their lead. Now a chance for Jason Dominguez. And he takes a strike out towards right center. That’s well struck and that should be extra bases. One run across now. Two runs score and the lead is up to five. Picks himself up a couple of ribbies. Pitch was in and off the plate. So hard to do anything with a pitch in that location, but somehow he got the barrel to it and hit it well. Pretty amazing. Now the Marlins manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. That’s it for Cal Quantrol and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Righty reliever out of the pen, Calvin Foch. Well, he’s been a bit of a wild card out there in terms of throwing strikes. He’s definitely struggled with free passes this year. So, up next, Austin Slater. First pitch and he just misses. Man on second. Two down. Oh, he doesn’t get the call and that’s ball three. So, definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpin mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. And there’s the automatic. to the right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. But they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double. Home half of inning number eight straight ahead. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Ian Hamilton. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year, and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. Leading off, Kyle St. Kyle delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. There it was. Oh. Oh, here it is. Hit it. He gets a take. Gets ahead in the count. That one missed. Movement in the bullpen. Number 31. The rookie right-hander is getting loose. Deos Santos. A hard throwing right-hander up as well. Here’s a 1-1. And there’s a foul ball. Come on. That missed by a lot and the count is even. Two and two. That’s down and in. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. That one misses. So, a leadoff walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Man at first, nobody out. And now for the Marlins. Otto Lopez. That one down the line. And foul ball. It’s so hard to slow yourself down when you see that juicy breaking ball, but the most success happens when you try to take that right back up the middle approach. Ball to strike. The pitch on the ground to the left and it stays fair. Throws to second and he’s going to get to second with nobody out. Oh, this has been a really nice game at the plate for him. He looks locked in. There’s something about pulling one down the line and shooting it through the infield that’s just so satisfying as a hitter. It’s just fun turning on a pitch like he did right there. Troy Johnston the next up for the Marlins and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Next pitch is outside. That one missing inside. It’s a big opportunity right here. But I love the way he’s slowing the game down. He’s shrinking his zone, making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit. Tap back to the mound. Over to first. One gone in the bottom of the eighth. Now batting left fielder Hernandez. Here’s the left fielder, Arberto Hernandez. 0 for three with three ground outs. This one in the dirt and well done to keep it close. Miami two and0 to Cal. Here it comes. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. Well, he came right at him right there. Challenged him with the two fast ball. Not sure exactly what he was looking for, but got to imagine that’s a confidence booster on the mound. You’re in that hitter’s head a little bit. Let’s go. Next offering is fouled back. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Goes down swinging for the strike out. Slider got him for a strike three. And up next for Miami, Graham Paulie. And that drops in for a strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit. Base hit. One run is in. Another scores. Two runs in on the play. It’s 11 to eight. Making some noise here. Two RBI’s on that swing and they’re right back in it. Pretty good spot. hard and inside, but that’s a perfect example of keeping your hands inside the ball tight to the body. The ability to take that back up the middle shows his approach is to use the entire field. And here comes the Yankees manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Ian Hamilton gives way. It’s a three-run game. And we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. So, the closer summon from the bullpen, Devin Williams. Big swing and miss stuff right here. Boo. Averaging more than one strikeout per inning this season. So far, he’s been pretty electric. Runner at first with two away. Dane Meyers the next up for the Marlins. On the corner for a strike. Open your eyes. On the ground to short. Vulpi inning over on the ground out. Took just two pitches to finish the frame out of the bullpen. They put two on the board with a couple of hits. No errors and one left. Ninth inning coming up. It’s the Yankees 11, Marlins eight. Back here in Miami, all set to start the ninth in this one. Here’s the third baseman, Ryan McMahon. Check swing and he went. That’s strike one. and a curve is down and in. Signs of activity in the pen for the Marlins. Valente Beoo appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. And a one-two swing and a miss. Struck him out. And a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. And the batter will be the shorts stop, Anthony Vulpi. He’s already homered here in this one. And first offering is fouled off. And that one upstairs. Ball one. That’s off the mark. Two and one. And that one pulled foul. One down. Base is empty. Foul ball. Another two- two upcoming. Battling here as he fouls it away. Swings here and blasts one left field. That’s bat and gone. Another homer, his second home run of the game. And they add a run. It’s 12A. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spit on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. And here’s the catcher, Ben Rice. That’s in for a strike. No question about this one. It’s out of here. They do it again. back-to back homers. His 17th of the year. It’s 138. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop and they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one, Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. Backto back jacks. And this club is fired up right now, Boog. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other. And the collective confidence just continues to grow. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Calvin Fochch departs and as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. New arm out of the bullpen. Lake Backer. I think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard. Just doesn’t have the same intensity to it. But he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score. One out, base is empty and Paul Goldmid will come up to hit right through there for a strike. Two runs across in the inning here in the top of the ninth. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Cuts on it and misses. That’s a strike out. Slider got him for strike three. Oh, that slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking it into the zone, and then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early, and a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. The first one to Bellinger is in for a strike. Not sure if he was expected for the pitcher to come right at him, but he got a nice cookie there and just watched it the entire way. It’s strike two. And that’s way high and a count one and two. Good eye right there. Really good take especially with two strikes. And he dodges that fast ball. Straighten him up a little bit. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Ninth pitch of the at bat. Do next and belly goes down on strikes. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. We head now to the bottom of the ninth. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And we’re back. So, bottom of the ninth now. It’s the second baseman, Xavier Edwards. Edwards. And first offering is fouled off. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. Had a good eye there. Well, he missed badly with that O2 fast ball. Hitter has to understand probably wants to try to put him away with that pitch. So, got to stay ready for it. That’s to third. McMahon tosses to first. One out. Bottom of the ninth. Now batting right fielder Jesus. Now the number two hitter Jesus Sanchez. in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Swinging a ball driven out to center. That’s back there. Feeling for the wall as he makes the catch. Now batting number 15. Marlins down to their final out. Augustine Ramirez. The next up for the Marlins check swing. Now we’ll look down to first and he went around according to Daryl Parker. Two down, nobody on here in the last half of inning number nine. They’re down to their final strike. This guy’s not wasting any pitches. Hitters got to get into swing mode. This is a good time to expand the zone. Throw something maybe down in the dirt. Williams is just one strike away. Got him. And that’s the ball game. After four wins in a row, you start to think a little bit that you’re on a roll. And that’s the momentum that just takes on a life of its own. Players start hitting up and down the lineup. Never know who’s going to come up with the big hit, who’s going to come out of the bullpen and get the big outs. But it’s a good feeling and you want to extend it. 138 is your final for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
