‘They control everything’: How the Dallas Stars monopolized Texas youth hockey, (USA Today)

Not a good look for the Stars…
“Immediately, the Stars imposed a new fee structure that raised registration fees for many players while reducing the number of ice hours their teams received. All teams would now get two preseason games – one fewer than in years past – and no more than one hour of practice ice a week. The Stars later reduced the regular-season schedule from 18 games to 16. That’s less than half the number of weekly ice hours that USA Hockey’s American Development Model recommends for teenagers to improve.”

Nooooooo… texas trying to control everyone
As a Predators fan, I am prepared to believe the worst about the Stars without question.
Also, it never fails to surprise me that states and cities are so willing to build facilities for sports owners without demanding partial ownership equal to the percentage they paid.
Two sides to every story. I love how they spoke with “hundreds” of families. And quoted like 3 of them. And it’s 3 who all have a bone to pick anyway.
Is there profit motive? Yes. Would hockey be anywhere near what it is in DFW without the Stars? No. We don’t have community rinks. And nobody will build any. Even in the past before the Stars owned them, the rinks were for profit.
And the one lady in the article or video was so full of it. She said it’s like $28,000 for a season of travel hockey. Try a third of that.
Between this and the other article that came out a couple months ago… Stars are looking about as ethically bankrupt as it gets.
Fuck Norm Green. Fuck the Stars.
This is disappointing
Look, as a business strategy, I kind of admire it simply because it is so lucrative, and they did it by getting other people to pay for it.
The people who arranged this are ice cold and clinically precise. You could make a movie about this. I’m already thinking about which actors could portray the evil businessmen.
What the fuck is with Texas?
Jesus Christ with these fucking people.
Welcome to sports in general. Travel Ball for all sports, all ages, is one big money suck. All in the name of a college scholarship.
I wish I could say I was surprised to see Keith Andresen mentioned right off the top, but nah…I expected him to be in there…he’s single-handedly ruined hockey for more people than any 500 of the worst hockey parents ever.
