What are the best and worst contracts for the Vegas Golden Knights? Which player made both lists?
Which players have the best and worst contracts on the Vegas Golden Knights ahead on this WTF edition of Locked On Golden Knights? You’re Locked On Golden Knights, your daily podcast on the Vegas Golden Knights, part of the Locked On Network, your team every day. Well, hi again everyone. Tony Cordasco and Chris Golick from Las Vegas. Thanks for making us your first listen every day. I’m a longtime sports cer, the host of the Saturday Sports Beat on Odyssey, and a marketing consultant, Chris, the owner of Silver State Cards and Sports, and the collectibles editor for the hockey news. Now, coming up ahead on today’s show, of course, our main topic will be FK’s best and worst contracts, and we’ll also talk about the amount of mileage that FK will travel in the air this upcoming season. and our traditional WTF what the Friday. So Chris, the Athletic published what it feels like uh is the best and worst contracts in the NHL. Uh what they are currently and uh that led us and inspired us, you and I, to compile our own local VGK list of players, what the best and worst contracts for VK. If Jonathan Marsh is so, right, if he would have signed that deferred contract um here and stayed in Las Vegas, that would have been by far the worst. But of course, uh never mind that that practice has gone out of style now that you can’t do deferred payments anymore for crying out loud. Uh, but before we jump into our best and worst current BK contracts, we do want to talk about two former Golden Knights being on the athletics worst contracts list. And Chandler Stevenson is one in his second of now, second, right, coming up of a six-year deal at $6.25 million. and uh he’s third on the list behind uh Jonathan Hubedo and the Columbus defenseman um Ivan uh Prover. And at number five in the worst contract list, we’ve got Nick Hey, who just signed that four-year $5.5 million per uh deal there as uh he leaves VGK to go to Nashville. Like Corzac, I know Cororzak’s name is going to come up probably in the worst contracts because we’re concerned. But in the same breath, it’s not fair to have Nick Hey rated as the worst contract. We don’t know what Nick Hey is going to do wearing a different team’s uniform. We know Nick Hey had had a real hard time getting to that top four where he probably belongs on 95% of the NHL teams and there was kind of a log jam to get there. Now, it’s interesting without Alex Petrangelo, the team was still not hesitant at all to move on from Nick Hake. So, we’ll see if Mcrimin was right or wrong in this. I’m with you that I don’t think this is going to be an advantageous contract for the Nashville Predators, who have had a recent history of not doing the best contracts and making the best team business decisions. But, I think it’s a little early to judge Nick Hag. I know we’re going to judge Corors, too, but it’s probably a little bit early to do that. Well, not only are they paying him the money, but for the first time in his career, is he going to be a top four pairing? That’s the biggest question. Oh, he’s definitely in the top four when he gets there. There’s no doubt about that. Yeah. Uh, our current best and worst VGK contracts. First, the best Pavle Durf for now, that contract at 1.84 million. He’s UF, he’s RFA all the way until 2829. So, the Golden Knights got a lot of control there. A lot of control. They have they have they do have control. just 24 years of age. The thing about Dorivv, I think that’s understated sometimes, is that he can play both the right and the left wing. Uh he could he’s very versatile. So that is good. 35 goals pops up this past season and uh we will see what he gets in the future. Um out there of course is an AAV in the vicinity of 7 million and you have to believe the Golden Knights. It would be in their best interest, right, to play the waiting game and see if he comes out and he’s still like this hot start. No, has a hot start. And Golden Knife, if they can find a way to lock him up for like 5 million times, seven years or eight years, you do it right now. But Doria would not sign that. Dorf would not sign that. No. No. Absolutely will not sign that. That’s my point here is But they could have more BGK waits and he starts scoring. if he scored 35 goals for each of the next three seasons. If they wait if they wait maybe till after the first of the year, see how the first couple of months go. Yeah, I mean that’s fair. Yeah. Uh that’s my thought. And then uh another one of the best at least in favor of VGK would have to be the contract of Brett Hen. Okay. Who comes off of a career season he signed for $2.5 million as a UFA through 2030. That’s your magic year. I think you were talking about that uh signed under duress, let’s say, being involved with that team Canada uh incident there. So, I think uh VGK got the best of Brett Howen. No doubt. And it’s a real advent advantageous contract. I mean, I don’t think Brett Hen expected the season he had. I’m sure Brett Hen had plenty of faith in himself. And I’m also sure there’s some, you know, conversations with him and the agent like, dang it, maybe we should have waited a little bit longer because he would have been worth significantly greater than his current cap hit of 2.5 million. Now, maybe 23 goals was a blip and he’s going to go back down to 12 goals next year. I hope that’s not the case. I think Howden has the ability. I Howen and Hey got some parallels, I think. Right. I mean, Hen is really having a hard time getting regularly in that top nine despite scoring 23 goals last season, playing every single forward position on nearly every single line last year. Yeah. Uh, anyone else for the best or should we move? So, I got one I I have a dual entry, Tony. We haven’t done a horse racing entry in a while. I have a dual entry for the best. One and one A. The one I got I got players going to be on both lists. I’m going to put Tomas Hurdle on the best and the worst list. I’m going to say the best list right now because the Golden Knights got him on a dime at $6.7 million. You are curving me. Yes. For for for what we got out of Brett out of pardon me, for what we got out of Tomas Hurdle this season and probably the next couple of seasons, it’s really really good at 6.7 million and change. when we get closer to that magical 2030 year which is when his UFA is maybe in the 2028 29 season we’ll see what Hurdle has left as far as the health side of his game goes now important note of 7 to note 73 games he improved as the season went on if this is what we get out of Tomas Hurdle someone who a bit of a power play merchant but his five on five game did improve he’s excellent in the dot he plays both both ends and everything if this is what we get out of him all the way up until maybe the last year of his contract cont. This will be one of the best contracts for the Golden Knights. Okay. And you had another entry. Who’s the other entry? The other entry. No, I said I’m putting him on the best and the worst. I got both. I got both. Okay. I thought you had two players, but the worst I would have to say right now, Kaden Cores from 825,000 to 3.25 million. 40 games, no goals, 10 assists last season. Chris and both the number of games and his ice time per game will go up. He averaged 15 minutes 4 seconds per game last season and we’ll have to see if he can turn it up. I think that’s a big question mark. The Golden Knights got some faith in Cororak. And the same reason I’m hesitant to claim Nick Hey has one of the worst contracts is the same reason I’m hesitant to say that say the same Bucky Corsac. Let’s see what happens. 6’3 defenseman, mobile, can hit, can shoot. um got a little bit of a scoring touch obviously when he gets regular minutes. Let’s see if that improves. Yeah, from 40 to double the amount of time is going to be a quantum leap. We’ll see. And then uh someone else on my worst list, your guy, the RFA, Alexander Holtz. Alexander Holtz, Chris. Um the lone is he still the lone RFA that’s holding out right now? What is he waiting for? 24 years of age, complimentary player. Um 894,000 is what he’s making now. 53 games, 12 points, four goals a season ago for the VGK. But is he isn’t he still holding out? I don’t know what’s going on there. But I’ll jump real fast. We’re short here. But uh my worst contracts, Mark Stone, Aiden Hill, Brandon Sod. Wow. Mark Stone for his health concerns. 95 million. If he’s only going to play 50some games, that’s a bad contract. Aiden Hill, will he live up to his contract? Early indications are maybe, but we’ll see if he can keep going. And Brandon Sod, I that’s a that’s an extension that I didn’t think the Golden Knights or a resign I should say that I didn’t think the Golden Knights maybe should have made at two. I think that they felt that they signed a player named Sad, not Sad. That’s why Coach Cassid’s take. Coming up next, I can see for miles and miles and miles. How many miles will VK travel in the air this upcoming season? We’ll get to that as we return on this WTF edition of Lockdown Golden Nights. Welcome back on this edition, this WTF edition of Lockdown Golden Knights from Las Vegas, Tony Kasco and Chris Gollik. If I were in Chicago right now, I would be looking for those LA Palooa tickets. Luke Combmes comes out last night. you’d like this as a Chicago. Wearing a rin wearing a Ryan Sandberg jersey, which I just got chills again. He sang that song Fast Car, the Tracy Chapman song. I thought that that was just so cool. You’re a Chicago. Yeah, I know. 10 seconds. I mean, I’m I’m a White Sox fan number one, but seeing Pearl Jam at Wrigley Field in 2010 was a super amazing experience. And Eddie Veter brought out Ernie Banks to sing the Cubs song All the Way, I think it’s called. In that moment, I really felt like what it’s like to be a Cubs fan and the passion they have. Watching Eddie Vetty up, Eddie Veter up there, Ernie Banks together singing the song. That was a remarkable moment for me when I really just kind came to appreciate everything. So, yeah. I mean, obviously Chicago uh Cubs players, their roots go very deep in the history of that city. And of course on game time, I told you I bought my tickets for that Marner Magic game here in Vegas. Got a really good deal. Now’s the time to buy those tickets. By the way, probably you’re probably right against Toronto in January. How difficult is VK’s travel? Well, it’s broken down to projected miles travel. That’s it. Uh, the Golden Knights have the eighth worst travel schedule, travel miles this upcoming season. In addition to goalie and defensive wos, the Oilers, the Oilers, I didn’t know where I was going there. Will be traveling a Leai 54,426 miles, including they have a 7,000mi plus road excursion this upcoming season. BK 46,970 miles projected. As expected, teams primarily from the West always have these worst and difficult travel schedules. No doubt. And it’s something that is worth discussing and bringing up here. I mean, this is where some of the teams like in the metro, for example, that’s uh certainly a big advantage. and teams up in the the north northwest or northeast in general. I mean, all those hockey teams are just like it’s bus trips for crying out loud for some of those games where there’s no bus trips if you’re on the west coast really anywhere besides uh up in the New York, Buffalo, you know, Philadelphia region and all that. So, it certainly takes a toll on people. There’s no doubt about that. But that said, you look at the Golden Knights travel, they’re, you know, projected to be a pretty solid team. Florida Panthers, oddly enough, I thought they would travel more, but I guess they’re just going right up that eastern seabboard a lot. So, it’s 39,000 miles to the Golden Knights, 46,917 miles. Oilers 54,000, but they’re not playing overseas or anything, right? That’s just a like an insane long road trip in there. 7,000 mile road trip. The NHL really does job that team though, you have to admit. Go ahead. Yeah. No, that that’s what I was going to say. I mean, it’s it matters. I mean, you know, you got all the travel, you got playing in altitude and everything, you know, for a lot of these teams and stuff. And it it does take a toll. I mean, I know how it is when I travel. I don’t travel nearly as much as an NHL player by any means, but, you know, travel days suck, right? When you when you when you leave, it’s you’re a little tired and that day when you come back, you’re a little tired. And I mean, there’s times you’re getting off the plane in the morning playing a game at night and stuff. And it’s not easy. I don’t care if they’re professional athletes, it takes a toll. And there’s no wonder that some players like Patrick Kane, I always talk about him, uh, players from the East refuse to sign with Western Conference or Pacific Division teams. Um, the 11 teams with the least amount of travel are all from the East and that figures, right? And Mitch Mner’s former team, Toronto, travels 14,000 plus fewer miles than the VGK. I found that kind of interesting, too. Uh so VGK like they do have that five game it’s all this is in the air though the five game road swing in the New York metro area they have that one that’s pretty simple cuz they probably stay at one hotel for most of those games they stay they stay in Midtown they stay in Midtown Manhattan pretty much until they have to get on a plane again and then in January that brewing Toronto Ottawa Canadians swing is tough but the one that really concerns us is the one post Olympic Games where they go to LA and then cross country to the Caps, the Penguins, the Sabres, the Red Wings uh right after the Olympic Games. That is going to be grueling. And uh you know, I always complain about managing the time. You stop after you always complain. You’re going to stop the sentence right there. I always complain. Perfect. Go ahead. You’re good. Keep going. No, I was just going to say that I complained about the uh the four nations last year in that uh you know No, just the way Well, the Oilers, yes, they job them on that schedule, but just the way that VGK managed the minutes with the guys that played in that, but Bruce Cassidy the other day on that podcast had a really good point. You also have to manage the salary cap. So, they would have players, they have to finagle some things in and out of the lineup. So that was it. I always complain. Period. We have words. That’s a major point. We We do have words. I mean, listen, I I get it. Like co coach Cassie did talk about that a lot on the podcast um uh yesterday or day before, whatever one we listen to. And he like the players, they don’t want to sit. That’s the thing. They don’t want to sit out games. So, you find other ways to manage. And we did talk about a couple times last year if you just go on um hockey reference is probably one of the better tools where you look at the game log of each individual player and it’s just stacked up so you can scroll down and look at the minutes and Mark Stone, Jack Eel, Petrangelo, all these players who were over 20 minutes you saw a noticeable drop offs after um after the four nations and everything. So they did make a very conscious effort to manage the minutes. Now did they do a good enough job? I don’t know if the answer is yes because the team looked definitely tired in that series against the Edmonton Oilers and I mean rightfully so. You’re going to empty the clip as far as loading up your top players minutes when you’re trying to save the season and everything. And that certainly happened in the last couple of games when the Golden Knights uh fell pretty flat for lack of better term unfortunately. And um you wonder what Cassidy and the rest of the IHL have learned about doing that. and the Florida Panthers were beneficiaries and in a weird way of Matty Kachchuck getting hurt and he uh came back pretty healthy obviously in the playoffs although he he played it down like he wasn’t overly healthy in the beginning. I don’t know if I buy that necessarily. Um so you wonder what the what what the workaround is so to speak for the Golden Knights this year coming out of Four Nations to stay healthy. If Cassidy were on this program and we were interviewing him, he would do the jump ahead and he would say, “Yeah, you know, Mar,” it would be a minute and a half our interview, it would be, “Yeah, I don’t know where MNER and Michael are going to play if they’re going to be on the same line. You have to see chemistry there.” And then of course he would say, “Yeah, you know, we just leave it up to the players after like the Olympics.” As they should, as they should. I mean, they’re they know themselves and they’re, you know, they’ve been doing this for a while. Let the players make the decision when it comes to that. This doesn’t seem apparently I mean it’s the eighth worst schedule. It doesn’t travel schedule in the air. Doesn’t seem like it’s overly challenging or grueling post other than post Olympics. That is going to be so again it’s the where the depth comes into play and that is going to be the key trip for VGK. Yeah. I mean the the the depth of the forwards I don’t think there’s any questions about outside of health obviously but that’s every team’s question. You have no idea what’s going to happen until you get around the 18 20 25 game mark of the season as far as your health is concerned and everything. The defense that’s going to be the buzzword uh coming up uh really until that same mark that 20 25 game mark when we can really dive in and say okay this is a good defense or this is a concern a defense we’re concerned about. We’ll know which players were you know kind of inside that circle of trust. We’ll know which players maybe who are on the outside and we’ll have an answer to the question about Korsak’s contract which technically doesn’t kick in until the following season the 2026 27 season but we’ll see which way is heading I guess. And there’s one international game Pittsburgh and Nashville play in Sweden. So that’s a pretty big game. Eric Carlson I get it. Coming up next what the Friday. Oh my goodness. Here we go as we return right here on Lockdown Golden Knights. Welcome back on this WTF edition of Lockdown Golden Nights. Please subscribe to our Lockdown Golden Knights YouTube channel. We definitely appreciate everyone, even our fans in Sweden. Thank you so much to our everydayers. U so I’m going to start off WTF and if you can I got I haven’t pulled up any of the fan stuff. Uh WTF uh VK prospect Trevor Connelly. Trevor Connelly, he injures his right leg versus Finland earlier this week. And you want to talk about a dead piece, man. The great Dane Ron Bjork, right? I was just thinking out loud here. When he comes back, he’s not going to be a dead piece. Uh he’s going to be cast, too. Uh okay, so back to Connelly. It’s WTF time, so we just scrambled. Uh so the other day and we know the rash of injuries right that Trevor Connelly has had on that right leg especially at least two I took over one and a hook at least two to three knee injuries. This would be you know another knee injury on the right leg. Does VGK do they scour every story about him and scrub the internet? because I can find absolutely nothing, no updates on Connelly or the injury or even that there was the injury. We saw a small video clip for crying out loud. Everything is gone. It’s the secret society for crying out loud. All they do is scrub the internet. I don’t know. But again, Skulls, remember the movie Skulls? You ever watch that movie Skulls? Remember that movie, Tony? Skulls. Secret Society. I know that. Is that the name of it? I don’t know. Anyway, fraternity or whatever. This is not skulls. This is knees. This is knees. Okay. I did. I don’t know how much time he’s going to miss. WTF? Go ahead. I could be wrong, but I thought in a social media scroll, you know, late at night going through I thought I read that Connelly dodged a worst case scenario with it, but I could be wrong. Um, so I’ll wish the best for him obviously and hope he has a chance to compete for a roster spot and get as much experience as he can because he is a a prized prospect of the Vegas Golden Knights that is either going to have internal or external value to the organization. So hopefully he did dodge worst case scenario and uh they can trade internal then external trade him for something uh you know around next February or something like that. Um, so we have highlighted on this channel that the Golden Knights have budgeted for certain things and the Golden Knights have been raising prices for youth hockey around town. They are raising prices of hockey. Like just if you want to rent out the ice and things like that. And by the way, there’s another rink called LVIC where it’s about 400 bucks less to for your kid to play hockey and maybe you should consider that. Where’s that? Where’s that rink? LVIC at the corner of Flamingo and Fort Apache. Oh, that one. Okay. Right on the west side of town there. I would live too far away or I would have jumped ship two years ago to check out that place and give them a shot. But I got to tell you, I love I love that place. It’s a little choppy, the ice. Okay, go ahead. Oh, the ice is fine. The ice is old. It’s a sand base. It’s a little a little slower, but Brooks is a great restaurant in there. Kids love it. And anyway, um, but prices going up and everything and the Golden Knights came out with this wonderful special for all the 702 fans. All the special, but instead of 702, they added a zero, Tony. Added a zero. So for $7,02, you too can rent out a not you the band, but you can rent out a suite at T-Mobile for a hockey game. $7,02. And they advertise like they’re doing the locals a favor. You can you can rent it out special seven grand WTF you can rent it out but that doesn’t include the food and everything else probably didn’t include the game tickets but I mean it’s and again listen maybe that is the going rate you know but that’s just the type of thing like the comments on the post were great people were starting to rent one and stuff and just talking about you know oh this is you know it’s just I don’t know it’s just I form advertising like you’re doing a favor to the fans by offering a $7,000 suite experience. WTF? Okay. On the Energy Line $1,02. Excuse me. I want to make sure I’m correct. Okay. WTF? On the Energy Line podcast, Bruce Cassidy. Glowing remarks for John Cooper. Oh, very observant. He’s eating breakfast and dinner with each other. Okay. Um, he was formerly a public defender. I didn’t realize I heard that. Yeah, I heard that. That was good. Kind of snuck that in there. Uh Rick Tocket, good coach, humble guy. Pete Dbor, an X’s and O’s guy, a coach just like myself, says Cassidy about Dbor. Um he forgets to mention the key cog, Misha Donskoff, for crying out loud. By all accounts, I thought I heard him like kind of sc go by his name fast, but I could be wrong. No, I didn’t. He did not. I was waiting for it because I thought he or something. But anyway, this is the glue guy. This is the glue guy. Ah, that’s a for the future. We could do VK’s glue guy. But again, you know, this is the guy operationally that handles all the biz. WTF? Mr. Future Endeavors is a forgotten man. Um, Toronto Maple Leafs, you knew this was going to not go the way that they wanted it to. They, um, put out something on Twitter that said, “Help us develop our new graphic.” So, of course, the chirps came flying in. I just simply uh put a picture of Mitch Mar in a VGK jersey for him and reposted that. But obviously, a lot of the a lot of the the comments, even the best one I saw was actually, rest in peace, Hulk Hogan. Um, and WTF, all the celebrities dying lately. Hulk Hogan, Azie Osborne, just terrible. Um, terrible. But it was Hulk Hogan doing his leg drop on the Toronto Maple Leafs, but it was like like nine different photos of Hogan almost like in a slow-mo and it was each team that eliminated them in the first or second round fight the last decade. So that was pretty funny right there. Very very um on YouTube. Let’s see here. Here we go. This is great. Uh BH nothing about me, right? So nothing about me. No, I think you’re safe. BHC1978 on YouTube on yesterday’s show during the power rankings segment. Edmonton being a favorite of the NHL is pure laughter. Consider and I don’t know where this came from, but considering Bman made sure Vegas was gifted and spoiled everything. Let’s be clear. Just shut up. EHC WTF right there. Um Oh, Gary Adrian Tony still waiting for Rasmus Anderson. I am. I am. He’s on the do something. Do something. I want Marchie back. Our emotional firecracker Scott097. I like that. Not WTF. I just like that one. It would be pure savagery. WTF. If Marsho goes to Edmonton with that uh Adam Ranger, I think I said that right. Marching to Toronto and he wears number 16 just to rub it in. Say what you will about him, but he was clutch from the second round on. So there he goes. All time. Mr. clutch all time for VGK. Absolutely. No doubt. Uh Dean Jones, WTF. This is a perfect gift. Uh that’s this is the one I did with the um they were chirping. Uh it’s leaves fans chirping VK fans about Marner VK fans plugging their ears. What team fans are sitting in the middle? WTF? Uh Yoda Jenkins. Good one from the top rope too. WTF. I heard Mcrimman bought a new sailboat sailboat from a seller in Toronto. Lee’s fans are unhappy because they say it’s rigged. WTF? That’s a good one. And uh yeah, there’s just a lot. Oh, I can’t wait. We’re going to have a We’ll have a good time on Marner Monday because we always do. And uh we’ll start lining up our comments over the weekend. It’s August. WTF? It’s August. WTF? Yeah, exactly. Um there was something here. Uh oh. VGK every day are taking a good shot, well-natured shot there at Mr. Gollic. When it comes to the draft, other than quote, “F those picks, what should I expect from TD Chris G?” That is you, Chris, unlocked on VGK. Solid take on letting other teams develop prospects. How long till other teams copy that approach? There was no draft. There is absolutely no salary cap in Vegas. And as Chris might say, what did he what did you say? WTF? F. I said you said, “F those pics.” You did say that. That’s on the borderline, bro. We’re going to get censored here by the FCC. Segment’s called WTF. I don’t think we’re Oh, that’s right. Anything else? Any other parting words? No. A lot of fun. You did say that. We appreciate everyone tuning in, of course, to today’s show. Monday is Marner Monday. Are we overpublicizing Marner Monday? Hit the algo. Hit the algo. Hit the algo. Yeah, I tried. I tried there. Of course, our everydayers everywhere around the globe. Thanks so much for tuning in. We appreciate everyone’s support. Again, subscribe to Lockdown Golden Nights, the YouTube channel, if you haven’t already, and chirp like everyone else. For my man Chris, I am Tony Kurtasco. Have a terrific weekend everyone. We’ll see you Monday for Mner Monday right here on Lockdown Golden Knights. And please take care. F those picks.
Would you rate Vegas Golden Knights center Tomas Hertl and one of the team’s best or worst contracts? How about Adin Hill and Brett Howden? VGK will travel over 47,000 miles by air during the 2025-26 NHL regular season, and that does not include miles traveled for the Olympics. It’s the Friday feature, What the Friday!

Korczak contract is a head scratcher. With the eye test, not sure why he got paid that much. But in Kmac I trust and I I'm sure he sees something in him to justify the 3.2mil
The furry caterpillar eyebrows need to go out of style like yesterday 😂
