MLB LIVE🔴 Los Angeles Angels vs Chicago White Sox – Aug 1, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
John Shabi and Chris Singleton on the call. The first half of the All-Star break is behind us and partner, it’s go time in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Chicago White Socks and the Los Angeles Angels. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Just about to get underway. Getting the nod in this one. Jack Kachanowitz and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Chase Mitra leading things off and takes a strike. The shortstop takes the ball. That one’s in there. That is strike two. Liner base hit man aboard on the leadoff single back against the wall with two strikes but found a way. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Austin Slater stands in. First offering misses badly for ball one. Maid gets his lead at first with nobody out. Here goes the runner. Pitch in for a strike. Go to second. Wow. Usually when you see a team try to steal a base in the early innings, it tells you they want to be aggressive on offense, try to force the defense to make plays and slow them down. That’s exactly what they did right there. So, we’ll see if that caught stealing changes the offensive approach moving forward. One out, bases empty. popped up. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there’s two away. Time to check out the lineup for the White Socks. And Singi, I’m a bit surprised to see this many righties in the lineup against a righthander. Yeah, you’re not the only one, Boo. I’m a bit surprised as well. And you know, some hitters work well against same-handed pitching. You know, just back in 2024, Bobby Whit Jr., Vlad Guerrero Jr., and Aaron Judge all had higher batting averages against righties than they did against lefties. So maybe they got a plan after all. Out to short, slings to first, and that is that. Nothing doing for the White Socks. Now the Angels will get their first crack at it. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. And we’re back. And today’s starting pitcher, Davis Martin. Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Bottom of the first now, Zack Netto and Singy. We already know he’s going to finish the season with a new careerhigh in home runs. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Next pitch misses. One ball, one strike. The 1-1 is fouled off. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Just missed. Really good take, especially with two strikes. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going and that one is in the dirt and it’s a full count. Full count. Swing and a popup. Sosa. And there’s one away. Batting second. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lineup. This group was shut out their last game, so we’re going to see if they can bounce back with a better effort here today. And Boo, it can get in your head a little bit when you get shut out. You’re frustrated. You’re seeing that consecutive streak of innings you haven’t scored. And you want to get off to a great start. score early because if you don’t, you feel like it could linger into two consecutive games which no one wants to be a part of. Come on, let’s get a hit. Mike Trout in now takes ball one off the plate. Martin, he has a reputation, I don’t know, maybe a knack for working himself out of tough situations that he finds himself in. You know, you like that in a relief pitcher, but when you have it for a starting pitcher, a guy that can get out of a tight spot, that is pretty valuable. No strike. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Los Angeles. Just missed. And you won’t see the skipper rush to get somebody up in the bullpen as soon as he starts to see some signs of trouble. This guy’s earned a longer leash. And because of that, confidence grows with the players and teammates playing behind him that when things get a little rough out there, they know he’ll find his way through it, stays alive. How much of the ability to do that in a tight spot is the mental approach? I think it’s very much being able to have a laser-like focus, slow everything down, stay right in that moment, pitch to pitch execution and focusing on that catcher man. And here’s the first baseman, Nolan Shanuel. Come on, Nolan. And a foul ball man at first, one away. He’s a bad ball hitter, so even if you get him to chase pitches outside the zone, he still might beat you. Not an easy out by any means. And a base hit. They fired in quickly. So it’s first and second with only one away. Left fielder Taylor Taylor Ward now at the plate. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season. So they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. That pitch clips the outside corner and it’s 0 and one. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. Next offering in there for a strike. That’s strike two. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Well, big strikeout right there. and maybe a little controversial with the call. I think he got a little bit of favor on the mound. No question about it. It’s not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that. And I’m sure there’s some chirping going on from the dugout. Making it clear that wasn’t his best call behind the plate today. Here’s Joe Adele. This is another guy capable of hitting tape measure home runs. Right through there for a strike. No balls, one strike. The 01 and that one upstairs. Ball one. Trap the lead runner at second. Shadowwell on first with two down. That one off the mark and the count two and one. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the bat alive. This one high in the air to left center. Taylor should have this one. Makes the grab. That is the inning. Angels strand a couple scoreless after one. Top of the second and now the first baseman, Miguel Vargas. Miguel Vargas. Coachitz back to work. Coachitz a 67 righty 24 years old and he was a third round pick back in 2019. Nasty pitch right there and the count even one and one. Joe McDonald doing the home play duties here. Well, Joe’s an interesting one. I’m always trying to figure out what exactly his zone is. Feels like it kind of moves around from game to game, sometimes inning to inning. There’s a strike. Yeah, I think that’s fair. I don’t think he’s ever off with his balls and strikes, but yeah, I don’t think it’s easy to define what his zone is. Like you said, that skips in the dirt. Swing and a miss. 98 miles per hour on the gun. Benendi up here. Andrew Benendi. First pitch doesn’t find his own. Benendi, the former first round pick, Golden Spikes award winner. A change up missing. Ball two. And that’s in the dirt. No strike. No score here in the second. Let’s go, Angel. And there’s the automatic. Clearly taking all the way there in that three-0 count. It was a cookie right down the middle. Draws the walk there. Take your base. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Luis Robert Jun. So, a man aboard, Luis Robert Jr. steps to the plate for the White Socks. That one fouled off. Robert needs just one more homer to reach 100 in the big leagues. Yeah. And making it to a 100 homers would be quite the career accomplishment for him. Out of the more than 20,000 players to take an at bat in the majors, less than 5% have ever hit 100 dingers. That misses the zone. It’s a ball in two strikes and downstairs. Great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count up at two and two. Such a better feeling for the hitter. And La Pantara heads back to the dugout after the K. And here is Sosa to the plate. And first offering is fouled off. Just missed. One ball, one strike. Swing and a miss. Going to count one and two. One ball, two strikes. That one missed in the dirt. It gets to the back stop. And now a man into scoring position. Runner at second. Two down here in the top of the second. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Swanging a ground ball. Neto tosses across the first and that’ll do it. So, no runs on no hits, no errors, and a runner left. Now to the bottom of the second, we’re tied nothing. Nothing. Back here at Angel Stadium, here’s a big power threat. Logan O’H. Logan O’Han. Fast ball for a strike, man. I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. on a line base hit. So, runner aboard to start the inning. I’d say a mistake pitch in an 02 count. Too good of a pitch to hit right there. You have to expand the zone. Keep that leadoff man off first base. And next for the Angels, Luis Reanifo on the ground to second. Might be two. Good feed. That’s one. Back to first. And that is a double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leagers. They make tough plays look simple. Digging in is the switch in outfielder. He had a foul ball. Angels. Two down. Doon swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow left field. Taylor puts it away and that ends the inning. We’ll move to the third with no score. Back in Anaheim, top half of the third inning. Here’s the third baseman. Coulson Montgomery in the dirt and it’s one and0 back up the middle and a base hit. Just kind of sliced that one into center. Fatty Knight leftielder. So impressive that he didn’t get tied up or jammed on that pitch inside. Instead, good quick hands allowed him to get the barrel to it. Just shoot it up the middle of the field for that knock. Michael A. Taylor steps to the plate for the White Socks. Outside low, ball one. hit on the ground. Might be two. Needto over to second. Not in time at first. It’s a fieldielder’s choice. Now, well, an aggressive slide at second base, but it was legal. I like it because you’re trying to break up the double play and it looked like the slide impacted the throw a little bit. Nice job by the base runner. Back to the top of the lineup and the batter will be the shortstop. Chase Maid down the left field line. Base hit. The throw in. Throw pulls him off the bag and he’s safe. That’s back to back singles for him. Ripped that one down the line and kept it fair. And even when you hit it that far out front, you still have to keep your hands tight to your body so you don’t hook around that baseball and put it in foul territory. And that right there was perfect. Runner in scoring position now. And a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. Two on, one out. Slater the next to hit. swaying at a ball popped in the air and it drops in. Run scores easily and it’s one- nothing. Stop sign goes up at third. Runners at the corners with one out. First swinging. Went up there with a plan to be aggressive. I’m amazed at his ability to pull his hands inside and actually square that baseball off. That pitch was off the plate. So tough to get the barrel to anything in there. And now the switch in catcher Edgar Carol. I’m curious how he decides to attack. runner on the move. Swing and a miss. Go to second and he’s out. Kind of a gamble right there. They’re trying to stay out of the inning ending double play possibility, but now two outs and it’s gets a little tougher to drive in the run from third. My draw at third with two away. Next pitch is outside. And that one is lifted in the air. And that’s the third out. But they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. Back after this on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. Now the third baseman, Kevin Newman. Newman. And the first pitch misses for ball one. And that catches the low inside corner. Good fast ball. Highfly ball on that one. Curling foul down the right side. One and two now. And a foul ball. He stays alive at the belt and fires. And a curve is down and in. Two balls, two strikes. And he grounds one to the right side and it goes just fouled. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. cut on and lifted in the air. Great effort, but it gets down. Just one of those at bats you almost hate to see come to an end. I don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So, pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. And now here is Zack Neto that gets by him. Stop sign goes up at third. Runners at the corners. Nobody out. Back to back singles. I really like that swing, man. He didn’t just push it the other way through the end. He drove it that way. It kind of makes me think he was thinking opposite field as he stepped into the box. Got a pitch he liked and he got it done. And now batting Mike Trout worked a walk in his first trip to the plate. And that drops in for a strike. tying run in scoring position here in the last half of the third and he chases that one. Huge strike out there. Well, clearly just anxious right there and understandably so. in an 02 count, you feel like you’ve got a lot of plate to cover and you don’t want to strike out and you end up striking out. That’s just one of those pitches where it’s not over the plate, but because you committed to it as it was leaving his hand, by the time you realized it wasn’t going to be in the zone, it’s too late to hold up your swing. Nolan Shanuel will hit next. Swing and a high fly ball deep left field on a dead sprint. Racing back out of air. his ninth homer of the year and they lead it. It’s 3-1. Listen to these fans. This place is absolutely buzzing right now. You can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth. I wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here, but it had just enough behind it for the homer. What an attempt at the wall, though. He really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back. And here is Taylor Ward. And he takes a strike. Still only one out here in the inning. And that’s downstairs. One and one. right through there for a strike. That misses. It’s two and two. outside with a breaking ball, man. Those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Stepping in Joe Adele. Ward the runner at first with one gone in the inning. Pitch misses there and that is ball one. Though Chris through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. That’s a base hit. The throw to third in there safely. Angel. Runners in the corners here. One away. Moappy getting ready to hit. One for one with a single so far. just missed. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. That pitch gets the inside corner and it’s one and one movement for the White Socks in their bullpen. Jonathan Cannon up and loosening in the pen. Eer also getting ready. And that one fouled off in the dirt but kept close. He’s in there. Got to take advantage of this opportunity now because of the wild pitch. They’ve got two runners in scoring position. Good time for the hitter to lock in, put the ball, and play hard somewhere. Two on, one out. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Pitter’s got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. Base hit. One run is in. another scores. Two runs in on the play and they lead by four. That’s three singles in a row. Basketball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So no surprise he put a great swing on it. Luis Renifo gets a chance to hit here. 0 for one so far. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. No balls, one strike. Late swing fouled to the left. The next pitch misses. now one and two. Clearly, he hasn’t had it in this game and looks like sooner than later they’re going to have to go to the bullpen, the one two inside and it hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Davis Martin done for the night and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching for Jonathan Cannon gets the call from the pen. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season, so this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. Now it’s the switchhitting outfielder. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. One and0. And another ball. Two O’s to count. One out. Rudders at first and second. There’s a strike. That one fouled off. Two and two. That’s down and in. And a swing and a miss. And there’s two away. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strike out. Newman. The batter now, Kevin Newman. Singled and scored his first time. Swinging a foul straight back. Foul ball there. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. That one inside the count. One and two. Swing and a miss. And he chases that one in the dirt. Gets to it on the first. That completes the strike out. And that’ll do it. All in all, 10 come to the plate. They bat around and five score. On to inning number four. Angels five and the White Socks one. And we’re back. And here’s the first baseman, Miguel Vargas. Miguel Vargas. pitches in the dirt and that’s ball one. Hard ground ball base knock. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. So, a man at first and next to hit for the Socks, Andrew Benendi, and it’s fouled away. Just missed. You know, these White Socks doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. I got to think that was the plan all the way. He set him up with a high fast and then bury that curveball down low to get him swinging. Now, especially with how effective pitchers work up in the zone these days, that’s a devastating combination. Possibly thinking about home run number 100 here, he’s just one shy of that milestone. Vargas stands at first with one out. Coach throws over. Vargas back in on a dive. The one ball one. One ball, one strike. That’s inside. 2-1. Brown ball to the right side and foul ball. The White Socks down by four. Top half of inning number four. Out of the ground to third. There’s one double play. And that’ll do it for the end. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. On now to the bottom of the fourth. Angels five and the White Socks won. Back here at Angel Stadium. The batter now, Zack Neto, Zack Neto misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. You know, these Angels putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. They were obviously able to run the starter out of the game in the third, so they’ve set the table for a win. And now I’m sure they’re thinking it’s time to feast. Inside just missed. So if they’re looking to feast, are you saying they’ve already got a plate but are looking to go back for seconds? Yeah, I’d say something like that. Right down to shoot. And it’s two and two. Gets a piece and stays alive. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And it remains two and two. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. That one sizzling on its way through to the outfield. So, he ends up with a hit after seeing a lot of pitches. That was a good at bat. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Here’s Trout. That one’s upstairs. All one hit outside low and now two and0 two count great hitter at the dish. If you’re going to miss, you’ve got to miss outside the zone. You miss inside the strike zone, you’ll be asking the umpire for a new baseball. That clips a corner. Two balls, one strike. Throw to first. Needto back on a dive. Rolled to short. Possible two ball. My draw. Tossed to second. And that’s two. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Two outs. Base is empty. And now the first baseman, Nolan Shanuel. He’s already homerred here in this one. Inside just missed. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Next offering is in for a strike. Here’s a high chopper. Fires across the diamond. And that is that. Angels held in check. They’re up 5-1. Back in Anaheim, we go to the top of the fifth. Now it’s the second baseman, Lennin Sosa. Coachitz back to work. Sosa 25 years old and he was born in Venezuela. And there’s a hit. Had a good start to the inning. Here’s the third baseman, Coulson Montgomery. A single his first time. And that one clips the corner. Ball one there. Ruer at first with no outs here. that one down the line and foul balls. Grounder might be two. Neto for one and it’s a double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. Two down, base is empty. Michael A. Taylor digs in now. He’s 0 for one. That’s to third. Newman. And that will end the inning. Nothing doing it for the White Socks. They’re down here five to one. Bottom of the inning. And now it’s the Angels cleanup batter, Taylor Ward. Taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform, but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Strike one. You know, these Angels really impressed me with the quality of their bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see them go to work. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. just off the outside corner and a count one and two. Well, I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. Next offering way off the plate. Let’s go. Check swing on the 22. Appeal to first. Didn’t go. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Boo. If I were him, I’d be nibbling around the plate as well. I mean, this guy’s just capable of hitting pitches outside of the zone and driving them a long way. So, in down for the Angels, Joe Adell right through there for a strike. He must have been looking for something else cuz he gave up on that pitch a little early. It was right down Main Street. Probably not going to see a better pitch to hit in this at bat. To first, maybe a two ball. Fired to second. How about that double play? For me, that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield. The first baseman has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play, and then from there completing it back to first. Really good job all the way around. Two outs, space is empty. And next for LA, Logan Ohappy. That misses the zone. Ball one, two outs. That’s in there. And the count one and one. This guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. And there’s a ball. Swinging them in. Two balls. Two strikes. Two balls. Two strikes. Swing. And a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. And that extends the inning. Oh, this has been a really nice game at the plate for him. He looks locked in. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. He didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. So, two down. Luis Reanifo the next to hit for the Angels. That one way inside. Oh leads off first with two down to the inning. Come on. Here we go. And that one missing low. to the right side. Tosses to first and the inning is over. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. Five innings complete. Angels five and the White Socks won. And welcome back to the ballpark. Start of the six, John Shami with Chris Singleton. And leading off, Chase Maid line drive. That’s a base hit and the leadoff man aboard. now batting right fielder Austin Slater. So up next for Chicago, Austin Slater picked up an RBI in his last at bat. Still their only run of the game so far. And that’s way high and it’s one and0. Now these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But you know at the very least if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. That’s a little bit low. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Carson Fulmer up and throwing. Kihara the lefty warming up as well. Nobody out. Runner at first. Boo. That hook’s looking pretty sharp today. Just a solid pitching performance so far. And I really think it’s because of that curveball. Next one misses three and one. Oh, they have had a hard time scoring in this one. The pitcher out there on the mound wants to keep attacking. Make sure that they don’t get any confidence. That one hit to right under it and out number one on the grab. Now batting number seven, Edgar Carol steps to the plate for the White Socks. Bowl for two in this one. Get two. And that misses ball one. No. Last two pitches have been down in the zone. Pitcher clearly trying to get that ground ball double play, but in this count, he’s going to have to give in, elevate his pitches, and get back into this at bat. Fouls one off. Two and two. The White Socks down by four and we’re the top half of the sixth. Lifted in the air down the left side and that lands in no man’s land. A foul ball. Angels back to the mound. sneaks through base head and out to a board. Not in time. He’s safe. Now that is first baseman Miguel Vargas. Now the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Jack Kachanowitz will depart and a pretty good outing for him as he leaves with a nice lead. New pitcher when we get back. Now pitching for new pitcher in the game for the Angels, Jose Soraniano. And he’s got a nice lead to work with, so he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. Two on, one out at the plate. Miguel Vargas. And that’s off the inside edge. One and0. swings through that one out in front that time. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. And a base hit to right. Runner from third comes across and it’s an RBI single. It’s 5-2 now. Batting designated hitter Andrew Benendi. First and second, one out. And the batter now, Andrew Benendi. The strikeout and a walk. Fought off foul. Runners at first and second with one gone. Ball. One ball. One strike. Bounding ball here. Rolls. Foul. And a ball. Even a count. Hit in the air center field. Adele moves under it. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Now batting the center fielder, Luis Robert Jr. Luis Robert. Now he’s sitting on 99 career homers. We’ll see if this is the moment to notch number 100. And a strike. Carol, the lead runner out at second. Vargas at first. Two out in the inning. And ball one. swing and a tapper that rolls foul. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. Two on, two outs outside and the count’s even at two. up the middle and he knocks it down. Gets it there in time though and they do get the third out of the inning. But the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now 52. Back down for the bottom of the sixth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Shawn Burke. Shawn Burke. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. Now, it’s the right fielder. Both sides equally as strong. So, not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. And that’s in for a strike. 0 and one. Come on. Let’s go. And a swing to miss. 02. Looking good. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two and misses inside. Let’s go. Not close with that one. Two and two. That’s inside. That one to first. Vargas takes it himself. He didn’t make things easy for him there, but they still get the out. Batting third baseman Kevin Newman. Now the third baseman Kevin Newman and first offering is fouled off. Base is empty, one away here in the bottom of the sixth. And that drops in for a strike. Movement in the bullpen. Tyler Alexander, the left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. One down, base is empty. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. That’s down and in. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mount, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. Foul ball still a one and two count. Slow roller to third and that’s just foul. Way high with that one. And the count is two and two and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Come on, Angel. And a ground ball to first. Finds his way through base hit. He forced a lot of pitches to be thrown and ends up collecting a hit. Now batting shortstop, Zack. So the batting order turns over and now the shorts stop. Zack Neto first offering runner goes that one the other way to the bag himself. It’s a double play and that’ll end the inning. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Conor Brogden. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big erra. So, this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. Here’s the second base, Lennin Sosa. That one missed. 10. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. Ground ball right side. It squirts through. So a man on base to start the inning. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Just a simple ground ball the other way. that had eyes on it. Man, sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. Coulson Montgomery steps to the plate for the White Socks. And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. If you’re going to get something going, this is the time to do it. You get the leadoff man on. Everybody’s got to look over the shoulder and say, “I’m just going to keep the line moving.” Don’t try to do too much. Check swing. Did he go? Yes, he did. Sosa aboard here at first with nobody out. One. This one kicks away a little as he can’t squeeze it. Not in time. He’s safe and he’ll move up to second. No problem. Should be a pass ball and that takes away the double play. This is something that’ll happen to him from time to time behind the dish. The defense is a part of his game. He’s trying to improve, but right there just couldn’t squeeze it and it cost him. Man at second. Missed with a change up. Now two and two. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another. No outs. Runner on second. swings and misses. Struck him out. Well, I’m not sure what he was waiting on right there. He got the change up and still wait on it. You rarely see that. It almost makes you think that he was trying to set the pitcher up. I mean, if you can’t catch up to the off speed stuff, there’s no way you’re going to touch a fast ball. Now, the left fielder, Michael A. Taylor. That’s outside and that’s ball one. Called strike right there. Ball to strike. The pitch rolled softly, but that goes foul. One out and a runner at second here in the top half of inning number seven. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. That missed by a lot. And it’s two and two. Stays alive. Strike him out. Good battle here. about to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Connor Brogden won’t go any further tonight and he’s responsible for the runner on second so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching on the pitch here. The southpaw’s been really good against left-handed hitters. And up next for Chicago, Chase Maid, three for three with three singles. Come on. Top of the zone for a cold strike. Runner at second. Two down. The shorts stop takes a ball. fouls it off. Still one and two. Man on second. Two down. And that’s who it’s a strike out. The White Socks lead one. They trail at 5-2. Now pitching for we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Dan Alavilla. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Here’s Mike Trout. He is quite an athlete. I mean, you look around the other sports, basketball, football, you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports, too. And that’s downstairs and outside. Next offering upstairs. Way to lay off that fast ball up right there. You’re looking for something you see. well, that you can handle, but you also have to keep the discipline so that you’re not popping up pitches that are just a little too high. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. swinging a miss and he struck him out and the lead off hitter sat down to open the seventh. And next for the Angels, Nolan Showell looking to do more of what he did back in the third. No doubt that three-run homer is a huge reason why they’re in a good spot right now in this ball game. An important swing at the bat in the air center field. Robert moves under it. Two away now. Now batting left fielder. Two down. Base is empty. Next to hit Taylor Ward. And there’s a ball. One ball. No strikes. Just missed. That misses and it’s three and0 and that is out of play. The right-hander gives up the two out walk. Close pitch there, but you got to forget about that call if you’re out on the mound. You can’t let it affect you going forward. You got to get out of the inning first and then if you want to be frustrated, take it out in the dugout. Adele stands in now and watches strike one. There it was. A high velocity fastball in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it towards first. It’s through for a hit. And now first and second with two outs. Now batting catcher Logan. Here’s the Angels catcher Logan Ohappy. And that’s outside. And that’s Paul Wall. Let’s go. And a strike in there. The 1-1 is fouled off. Got him. Swinging for the strikeout. Gaston right by him. Angels strand a couple. They’re still out in front. 52. We go to the eighth. And now the right fielder, Austin Slater. Austin Slater. Well, it’s critical right here that they bear down and turn in some quality at bats. Try to chip away at that lead because if it gets to the ninth, that closer’s coming in. Gets the outside corner with that one. No need to offer that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch. Just missed. Next pitch is outside. Out to center. Adele moves under it. Nabs it. One up, one down. Now batting numbers. Edgar Carol the next to hit. One for three. Dead 25 years old. a former first round pick in 2020. Pitch misses and it’s one and0. And that one just missed off the outside edge. The next offering misses and now 3 and 0. Fast for a strike. That one’s in there. And the count is filled up. Full count. Comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt and it beats him for out number two. That’s a strike out. Well, classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out. That fast ball on the pitch before was off. It was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder. But then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and you can’t make contact. Now a chance for Miguel Vargas. Grounds one to short. Whips it across. Out number three. One, two, three. Go the White Socks. And the deficit remains 52. Now pitching for back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Steven Wilson just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpin can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. So digging in, Luis Rano, second baseman, Luis Reano. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. And there’s one down. Really nice job to get your first out of the ball game. Now batting right fielder Gustavo Camper digging in is the switch inning outfielder 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. That one outside. Ball one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Tyler Alexander getting loose out there. Leisure also throwing. Yeah, Angels. All right, Angel. And another ball. Next offering upstairs. And there’s the automatic. Next offering is in for a strike. Full count. Base is empty. One away here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. outside and that is ball four. Now batting. Now here is Kevin Newman. Kevin Newman. Just missed. 10. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. You can do it, Angels. The 1-1 is fouled off. One, two. Now way high. Full count in the dirt. Come on, Angels. Let’s go. fouled off again and it remains three and two. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. Battling here as he fouls it away. Payoff pitch. breaking ball in there. Got him looking. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Really good battle right there. And that final pitch probably could have gone either way. He was hoping he’d get ball four. Instead, the umpire rings him up for the backwards K. Ground ball left side, zips it to first. And that is that. Angels strand one and it remains 5-2 now pitching for back now and on the mound the closer Kennley Jansen and as relievers go he’s not a big strikeout guy tries to force weak contact so commanded execution are huge for him Benendi steps up the designated hitter Andrew than intended. And here comes that one out to right in position. Makes the grab. One down. Up next for the White Socks. He’s two out away. Luis Robert Jr. steps to the plate for the White Socks. And first offering is fouled off. The White Socks trailing by three here in the top of the ninth. Right through there for a strike. No ball. Two strikes. One down. Base is empty. Fights that one away. And the count remains 0 and two. Jansen fires. Foul ball still 0 and two. Really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. The delivery to Robert. That’s outside and the count is one and two. on the ground to third. Newman on to first and they take care of Robert for the out. You want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff just like we saw. So it’s their last chance in this one. And next to hit for the Socks, Lennin Sosa. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. And the White Socks down to their final strike. Oh, this guy is so comfortable hitting with two strikes. Even a good pitch early in the at bat, if he’s not ready to pull the trigger, he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count. The White Socks down to their final strike. First wing and a miss. Struck him out and that is the ball game. Start of a new month is a great chance to hit the reset button. Whether you’re coming in hot or cold, getting that win today is a great feeling to continue through the rest of the month. And your final score 52. Kenley Jansen picking up the save for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat.
