Vikings Training Camp Day 8 Recap & Highlights – Offense Shows Up, Lucky Jackson Balling Out

Welcome to the One Bar and Lepagus Show, your daily source for everything Minnesota Vikings. All right, welcome back to One Barus Show. I’m One Bar. Day eight of training camp is in the books. We’re going to talk about the good, the bad, the ugly. Mostly good. Mostly good. Little bit of ugly, but uh we’ll try to sugarcoat that as much as possible. Also, we got some highlights. We got some clips from training camp that we’ll be showing as well. Uh Dustin, our pal over dust_vikings onx, uh links down in the description. Also, Cool Wolves fan, uh definitely has some beautiful clips that he provided as well. So, we’re going to be talking about that, but be sure to give them a follow. Also, hit that sub button. If you’re watching, you’re not sub, do us a favor, hit that sub. We’re here every damn day, multiple times a day, talking Vikings. Uh we’re trying to get to 15,000 subs. We’re very close. Let’s do it. Before practice, Kevin Oonnell came out was uh doing a little bit of yapping, but uh for the most part, the best part was he was wearing a beautiful Jared Allen shirt, paying homage to the newest Hall of Famer, Jared Freaking Allen. Let’s go. Uh couple things. I mean, he mentioned Justin Jefferson. Time frame is still up in the air. I will say there was clips of him out there uh on the other field just kind of doing some things and he looks pretty spry. He looks pretty spry for a guy that has a hamstring injury. Granted, it’s a little bit different when you’re playing in the games, but I’m feeling pretty good about uh old JJ, old 18. Uh also said the offense needs to match the defense’s level. Yeah, no Uh maybe he’s trying to to pump these guys up, but that’s a pretty tough ask. That’s a tough tough ask uh going against this defense uh day in and day out. Maybe he’s trying to motivate them. I hope so. But you know what? it might have worked because there’s a lot of comments out there of everybody there that say the offense actually played pretty damn good today, which is music to my freaking ears. So, like I said, we do have some clips. Uh JJ McCarthy and Lucky Jackson, they got quite the connection going on. Lucky Jackson is having one hell of a training camp. Lucky, you know, he’s been around, I want to say, a couple years, just, you know, he’s got a lot of very good players in front of him. With Justin Jefferson going out, he’s seen the field a little bit more. I mean, once it gets to wide receiver three, Naylor seems to have that locked down. But wide receiver four, Rond Del Moore, Ty Phill, I mean it is very murky waters there. And Lucky Jackson is making a case. He is making a freaking case. And we’re going to look at this. So, uh, let’s see if I pull up the right one. [Applause] Back of the end zone. Toe tap to our guy Lucky Jackson. Best part, JJ McCarthy getting out of the pocket a little bit, making room, and making that tough throw. And and and Lucky Jackson comes down with it. There was more clips of Lucky Jackson doing his thing. Here, I’ll show you another one real quick. One. Nobody on them, but we’re going to get our We’re going to get our share of Lucky today. That That smells like a good four touchdowns this year. Four touchdowns for Lucky. It’ll be interesting to see if he makes a 53. I think it would be a surprise if he doesn’t at this point, especially we got Jordan Addison up in the air. Uh speaking of Jordan Addison, you know, he’s at a good camp, but there’s a lot of clips of him dropping some really nice balls uh from JJ and and here, you know, if if you don’t want to see anything bad, close your eyes. A little too much zip or something. I mean, Addison, you got to have that thing. Not only was it not caught, but Theo Jackson comes up with the interception. And Theo Jackson had two interceptions today. Theo, the man, is having a hell of a camp. He’s giving us hope that there might be life after Hitman. No, I’m not comparing him to Hitman. I’m just saying him and Matelis, maybe we’ll have something there. So, uh, offensive, we still got some more clips as well, but offense did look good today. Um, punt returns. So, usual suspects. It’s going to be interesting to see who actually gets this job. Uh, they got a lot of guys going for it today. It was Jaylen Naylor to be clear. I want Jaylen Naylor nowhere near our punt returns. Uh, just, you know what, you’re going to be a wide receiver three. Go nuts. But, I don’t want your returning punts. Rond Del Moore was back there. Ty Felton, Silus Balden, Miles Price. Miles Price is having a very, very good camp. He is my very dark horse to make this 53. You can call me crazy, but he’s having a good camp uh offensively and he returns kicks and punts and he does it pretty damn good. So, Miles Price is a guy to watch. Dante Fleming as well. And also, which I don’t like, Isaiah Rogers, he was out there for a little bit returning punts. I mean, I hope he just got lost. I don’t hope they’re not thinking about him returning punts whatsoever. He is our CB2 and our our quarterback group is not thick. There is no reason for him to be returning punts. I don’t care how good he is at returning punts or if he’s good at all. I don’t want him back there one damn bit. Uh but those are the punt returners. I mean, I would assume if Rondell Moore makes the squad, you’d assume it’s going to be him. Silus Balden can make the squad. It could be him. But uh I’m betting on Rondell Moore. Uh Theo Jackson, like I already mentioned, had two interceptions today. Been making plays all damn camp. Speaking of making plays on defense, let’s uh here’s a here’s a toss to Jordan Mason and Dallas Turner comes up and lights him up. [Applause] Dallas Turner, it’s real. It’s real. It’s happening. He’s going to be good, isn’t he? Uh Jordan Mason is not a small guy. Jordan Mason is a guy that probably holds on to that a lot. So, uh great to see on defense, but Jordan Mason, we got to have that. Um Dustin, who we mentioned who’s providing some of these clips did say he’s kind of it’s been it’s been a little bit of a theme. Ty Felton is underwhelming. That’s all he wrote. Ty Felton is underwhelming. And I think a lot of that is mostly at the receiver position. We had Thor on on Horned Up on Wednesday. And you know, he said it’s going to be a little bit of a project for for Ty Felton. Um I’m not giving up on the dude. Uh but he’s a third round receiver that’s just having a little bit of a rough camp. We will see. Who’s not having a rough camp is Max Freaking Bros. uh who again had a very very good practice at the quarterback position. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with him. Uh one guy that I mentioned earlier, Sam Howell, again, again, it is just not it is not working so far. It is it is brutal to the point where Brett Ripen uh is started to get more reps with the second team offense, which is a big sign. That is a big sign when all of a sudden Brett Ripen is taking over some snaps for Sam Howell. Sam Hall. Uh, at this point, if if we’re going to make the 53 roster right now, I don’t think he’s making it. I do not think he’s making it. A guy that is making it is TJ Hawinson, and he is a guy that needs to be best friends with JJ McCarthy, and they are getting quite the uh connection here. Here’s a nice little toss to him. First down after first down, baby. I love it. That’s his safety blanket. He makes him feel good. It’s his teddy bear. Let’s go. Let’s go. Uh we got one more clip here. We’re going to show JJ uh what he can do with his legs. We all know that he can make plays with his legs. Every time he does it, I will be crapping my pants just thinking about him getting hurt. Uh but it’s it’s inevitable. It’s just in his nature. It’s the way he’s built. He’s going to use his legs to make plays. And right here, he scrambles for that first down. That’s a Minnesota Viking first down. Let’s go, baby. Uh, that was pretty much the highlights. Um, again, defense played very, very well. Uh, Levi Drake Rodriguez was in the back field a lot. Javon Hargrave was about back there a lot. Uh, like I said, Dallas Turner did have a good practice. Again, the secondary looked good, but the offense did play very, very good. Lucky Jackson, like I said, was a big name in the comments out there. Uh, Aaron Jones had a nice little screen pass uh, as well. I think screen passes will definitely be a very common theme this year. But uh once again, thank you to Dustin Vikings. Thank you to Cool Wolves fan. Their links down in the description. Give them a follow. We’ll be here all damn weekend. Let’s go.

  1. I just can't see Rondale or Felton missing the roster, so it feels like Lucky, JeShaun, Tim Jones, and Bolden are all fighting for one spot.

  2. It's put up or shut up in preseason games. Trishton Jackson had a great camp and preseason and when Nailor got the yips, Trishton made the roster. I can play catch with an 8 year old and have the same clips.
