Pelicans Make Sneaky Good Signing.. This is HUGE | Pelicans News

The Pails may have made a sneaky good signing, picking up a GLeague Allstar and bringing them into the roster to help him maybe cause some competition with some of these guys that want to make the active roster. We’re going to take a look at the signing of Bryce McGoverns from the Portland Trailblazers inside this edition of Pel’s Digest. What’s good with it everybody? I’m back. Yeah, I’m back, baby. I’m still here. It’s your people Mel’s on the mic. And thank you so much for rocking with us and uh staying with us here at Bell’s Digest while I deal with my health. Uh and uh real quick before I move on, I want to say this real quick. Thank you to everybody that’s been subscribing and staying with the subscriptions uh while I’ve been gone in my absence. Big shout out to my man Chris and Nicholas and everybody at Digest Media uh for keeping the channel going while I’ve been dealing with my health issues. Um and I’m going to be upfront with everybody. Um, my speech may be a little impaired in this episode uh because I woke up a couple of weeks ago and found out or it felt like I when I woke up I was having a stroke and it turns out that I was having Bell’s pausy uh which which pretty much uh paralyzes one side of your face. And I don’t know if you can see it. That’s why I got the mic up so high cuz you know my mouth is curved to one side like this side of my face just is not working. And so it it kind of affected my speech and it also affected my confidence as far as coming back on here and talking to you guys cuz also like one of my eyes, you know, is dried up all the time. Uh it’s it’s a condition that I’m I’m going to get over. Uh the doctor say it could take a couple of days, couple of weeks, even a couple of months uh for it to get back to my my the full usage of my mouth. And you know, as a broadcaster, as someone who has been in the broadcasting business who uses my mouth for a living as far as talking paws uh um for the last 15 years, this this sort of took a toll on my confidence. And my but thanks to my therapist, my family, and the and the people over at Digest Media, the good guys over there, they have encouraged me to keep going, uh get back out here, tell the truth of my story, and tell y’all what’s going on. So, I wanted to be upfront with y’all before I get started. And uh and just thank you. You know, I know I seen some of the comments y’all been going in on some of the guys that’s been feeling in in my place. Uh, you know, they’re just trying to hold the the channel down while I get back to 100%. But, uh, again, thanks to my family and my therapist and so many other folks around me. They have encouraged me to keep going, get back out here and get back to work. And, uh, and that’s what I’m going to do. That’s what I’m going to do. So, again, thank you for not for not un for not unsubscribing for not unsubscribing. And thank you for subscribing and staying with us as we continue to give you the best analysis and opinions about the New Orleans Pelicans. And today, the Pelicans, in my opinion, uh may or may sneak good signing. And pardon me as well. I might talk a little slower in this episode and also uh take a lot more longer to pause because, you know, I don’t have the full usage of all the muscles in my mouth. Uh so, it’s going to take me some time to get back. But hopefully you hear me loud and clear and I hope I can pronounce things properly. Uh this is crazy as a broadcaster to deal with. But but anyway, uh let’s go ahead and get into the news today. Uh today the Pelicans have announced that they have signed a G-League player by the name of Bryce McGoverns uh after they had waved the Lester Konis contract and also getting rid of Antonio Reeves. Uh I thought Antonio Reeves did a decent enough job in Sun League, but in the last couple of games he kind of fell apart and was exposed on a lot of things. So, I see them. I see why they had to get rid of him. And I’ve been said that the Lester Kyonas experiment needs to end in New Orleans. All right. Said we had this guy on the 2-way for two years now. And now you bring in a Bryce McGovern according to Shams uh ESPN. This is what they had to say. Free agent Bryce McGovern McGawans, I’m sorry, has agreed on a two-way NBA deal with the Pelicans. The 22 uh 2022 second rounder enters his fourth NBA season. And uh not really too much to report on this guys as far as uh uh being a quality player. He he appeared in 13 NBA games this season uh for the Trailblazers. Uh was spent most of the season with the uh G-League affiliate, the Rip City Remix. Uh and his numbers, well, it depends on how you look at it, okay? And his NBA numbers aren’t that good. He only averaged like two points a game in a couple of minutes, but he was one of the top scorers in the GLeague last season and even made the G-League Rising Stars team. He was one of the top scorers at all of the G-League, averaging 28.4 points to go with three rebounds, three assists, two three-pointers, and a steal in 34 minutes per game over his 30 appearances with the remix. And that’s that’s pretty decent numbers when you compare him to uh to uh Trey Alexander who the Pelicans also picked up uh on a two-way deal earlier uh this season. And uh and I think this is also going to make the G-League affiliated if anything a good team. Uh when you got two high scorers like McGawan and uh Trey Alexander who like you saw in summer league, Trey Alexander put up some quality minutes, gave you some quality points from time to time in certain games, but he was also the G-League rookie of the year. So, you’re stacking up this Pelicans uh roster with uh G-League stars, guys that have actually not only put in a few NBA minutes, but also uh you can continue to develop along with Hunter Dickinson. Uh so, this is going to be the complete Pelicans roster. Now, there is a couple of hang-ups with this guy. Uh one, he is coming off a rib fracture injury in 2025. Uh but again, uh the interesting thing that I found about this, and I got this nugget from CBS News, uh is that he’ll feel the Pelican’s third and final two-way slot, and he’ll have to compete with the likes of Trey Alexander and Micah Peave, Micah Peavey for a slot in the back end of the rotation next season. Uh so, and I like that. I like that that they’re bringing in guys that are going to want to compete and and also force these guys to compete. Uh because when you consider that at the shooting guard position, you got Jordan Pool, you got a Jordan Hawkins, you got a Micah Peavey, now you got a Trey Alexander and a Bruce McGawans. Okay, now you’re four deep as far as uh shooting guard on his Pelicans roster. And and some of these guys can’t put up quality minutes. Uh especially uh Peavey on the defensive side and Alexander on the offensive side. Uh, I still don’t know about Jordan Hawkins and his situation right now and what’s going on with the team as as far as is he’s going to stay on this because there’s two two there’s two camps when it comes to Jordan Hawkins. You got the camp that wants to get rid of him and and and use him as trade bait and you got the camp that’s like me. I’m in the camp of you keep Jordan Hawkins. You keep working with Jordan Hawkins. You keep him on because he has a lot of potential to be a quality scorer for this team. But it’s all up to Willie Green and how he schemes it up. But again, I I like this signing for the simple fact is the Pelicans are looking at guys. I don’t think that you you know why they are just using these signings to fill up bodies on the roster. You’re also making quality signings in terms of you’re making up talent that has the potential to become greater down the line with this team and build around the I guess the uh what’s the what’s the word I’m looking for here cuz uh I want to say this properly. You want to build a team of of guys that can can maintain and also know roles on their team because I think that’s one of the big problems with the Bellicans is that we never have these guys never have specific roles or know what kind of roles they are. This is your role. This is your job on this team and this is what you are to do. Don’t don’t worry about anything else that’s going on. Oh yeah. And what that’s guy doing. This is your role. This is where you fit in the grand scheme of what we want to do with this team. And I think when you got two guys like a Alexander and this McGawan’s guy who uh well McGawans especially uh who has a lot of experience in that G-League sector. I mean hell, you might have a good team that that may be worth watching down there in Birmingham next season. You know what I’m saying? While the Pelicans may be, like I said, I’ve always long argued and I’ve been consistent in saying this. I think the Pelicans, this current Pelicans roster as it’s currently constructed, can go into the playoffs, not the play in. I heard uh yesterday Kendrick Perkins was talking about how they think he thinks they’re a playin team. I think this is a play all team. Okay, because the thing is and because you’re one injury, all these teams that are in the West are one injury away from being just like the Pelicans were last season. Believe me if you on to them, you’re not. You ain’t got to believe me. All just like the Pelicans were last season. The Pelicans got hit with a ton of injuries. All of those teams in the West are one injury away from being just like how the Pelicans were last season. And when you’re taking a look at the Birmingham roster and you start seeing some of the guys that are on the come up because I’m quite sure Michael Peave is going to spend some time down there maybe uh for a couple of days or something before he gets ready. But I but I still don’t see uh I still see a quality Birmingham team. You know what I’m saying? a G-League team that if if you feel confident, you start going deep into the postseason and you see these guys are scoring like crazy, especially Alexander McGowens, McGawans, and you and you want to activate that guy into the active roster, you can do that. You’ll have instant scoring off of one of these guys. I think Trey Alexander is the best two-way contract that the Bills have right now this season. Uh because I think if you go deep into the season and you might start looking at injuries piling up in certain situations or uh or players missing games, you could call this kid in and give some instant hot minute scoring. Uh, but as far as McGawan’s go, I think if you if he shows you flashes in GLeague and help lead this G-League team into something deeper and greater, then you can look at him in the future because again, this guy was just playing in All-Star weekend in 2025. He was one on the Rising Stars team. So, this guy uh has some potential with them. And as a Pel fan, you should you should feel good about that. I I feel good about it. How do you feel about it? clap back with your comments real quick and let me know what do you think about the Pelic’s newest signing. I know this is just a a two-way roster filling uh situation, but I think he can can provide something that could be very helpful for this team, especially down in Birmingham when it comes to Trey Alexander and other guys. Again, he’s he’s been in the league for four seasons. So, he has some experience and he can probably help some of these other guys that you have on your squadron on the Birmingham roster out with some with some quality minutes and also some coaching and some advice. You know, some of y’all say y’all want more veteran presence. Well, we got veterans not only on the active roster, but also in the G-League roster. That’s a beautiful thing to see and it’s a beautiful thing to have you here with us at Bell’s Digest. Thank you once again for subscribing and staying with us, man. And I’m back. You know, I’m going try to keep things going. you know, uh I’ll try to get videos up when I can when my health will will allow it. Uh but I’m just trying to get back healthy right now. And I thank y’all so much uh for y’all support and for your and for everything. I really do appreciate it. But we still gonna be here, baby. And we still rocking the best analysis and opinions is Mels talking about them pels right here on Pel’s Digest. I’ll catch you next time.
