Ellie, who led the National League of saves last year, 21 saves this year, comes in to pitch the ninth and fires 100 mph fast on his first pitch as a Met. Grant McCrae is the pinch hitter for the Giants. McCrae just called up today to take Mikey Stky’s roster spot. So Heft knows him really well. There’s Patrick Bailey who had an RBI double his last time up and now Helsley’s called for a pitch block violation. Elley was drafted and signed by the Cardinals in 2015. Had been in the Cardinal organization for his entire career, seventh big league season. Those first slider and Patrick Bailey swings over it. Two men down. [Music] So he throws that fast ball and then the slider comes right off it. It looks like a fast ball for 55 ft and then makes a left turn. That was a complete 100% overmatch right there. And now Raphael Deers who has struck out four times already in this game comes on to face Ellley. Takes a fast ball just below the knees at 101. Randy Rodriguez, Ryan Walker, both up in the Giants bullpen. Both real good. Walker took over as their closer last year when Dval struggled. Swinging a miss. Threw that one right by De’s. One and one. No, De’s got that low ball swing. He’s going to have a hard time bell tying up. One and one. One and one at 101. [Applause] almost fouls away the fast. Nothing but heat from the Devils from Helsley and it’s one and two after that fast ball down. A slider off the plate is the pitch. [Applause] One, two, and hard through the hole. A base hit for Devils. Gi will pull in at second. That’s a nice effort by Raphael Des. Been overmatched all night and he got up to the fast ball that time and pulled it through the hole. Unbelievable. They want to know if they hit the runner. The ball hit the runner. Bailey had to do a little Fred a stare there to to avoid that ball here. I don’t think that’s a reviewable play, is it? I don’t think so. No. Ball hitting the runner. That didn’t come close. Looks like something from ice skating in the Olympics. Yes. So now Willie Adamus is 0 for four tonight. Two out and two on. Tie game top of the ninth. [Applause] And Adamus swings and misses in a slider. Nothing and one. Thomas who got to face Helsley during his time with the Brewers. Two for 10 in his career against them. Thomas is a good fast ball hitter especially up slowly toward third a foul ball. Brent Batty now playing third base after pinch getting hitting for Vientos and the Phillies rally to beat the Tigers five to four. So the Mets need a win tonight to stay in first place. [Music] Daly at second. A base hit to the outfield does not automatically score him. and Helsley steps off. I mean, with two outs, he’s got to get a huge secondary lead, but he is not getting much lead at all. Terrible lead. Terrible lead. 02 coming. Struck him out. Got him with a slider in the dirt.
