Michelle Obama cooks ESPN: “If I watch ESPN for an hour it’s like watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta. It’s the same drama, they’re yelling at each other, they don’t get along. Stephen A. Smith would be a great Real Housewife. What’s the difference? It’s just drama.”

  1. Shannon should try to get onto the housewives now that he’s gainfully unemployed

  2. She’s right. I used to have ESPN on all the time when I was a kid. I don’t watch it at all now and I hate the “reality TV” format.

  3. Stephen A Smith: Point the camera at me. Michelle Obama, you don’t want to make an enemy out of me.

  4. Michelle speaks the truth. The way sports media has become it’s a great point by her that it is really no different from the Real Housewives of Atlanta…

  5. It’s brain doritos. Sure it can be fun but it’s dumb and too much is definitely not making you smarter…

  6. SportsCenter used to be must see TV – it was entertaining and funny – what the hell happened.

  7. She’s 100% correct. I haven’t been able to watch Stephen A for years. Insufferable.

  8. Many of you here are guilty of this. Y’all love the manufactured drama of the media, and not the actual sport itself. Just look at what posts here get pushed to the top.

  9. My girlfriend (now wife) walked into my dorm room while I was watching ESPN and said “why are you watching grown men yell at each other”. It broke the glass for me and I stopped watching sports talk shows almost immediately after that.

And that was 10 years ago. I can’t imagine it’s gotten any better.

  10. Stephen A just did a fucking cartwheel in his underwear right now.

Dude fucking loves it when famous people say his name.

  11. Sports media is just a reflection of where culture is. Everything is surface-level, reactionary, deliberately misleading, drama-oriented, cynical, pessimistic, and divisive. It’s part of why we’re all fucking miserable and hate each other

  12. It bothers me that the quote in the headline doesn’t perfectly match the audio. The headline needs square brackets and ellipses if they’re going to alter her spoken words but pass it off as an unedited quote.

  13. Here from all, I’m primarily an NHL fan in Canada and can safely say American coverage of the big sports is unwatchable. She’s right, it’s nonsense reality TV garbage. Canadian coverage of the NHL talks about the god damn game, not all this extraneous bullshit drama.

Although I don’t follow the sports talk radio and podcast scene up here either, I’m sure it’s garbage too.
