Don Kelly, Pirates, following a 17-16 loss to the Rockies

DJ, I’m sure this one a really tough pill to swallow. So, how do you evaluate just how this shook out at the end? Yeah, it definitely is. Um, you know, just something that coming to Kores, you know, you just got to keep scoring because you’re you never have enough here. Um, the way that you know, you guys hit and uh the ball travels, you just got to keep putting up runs. I mean, what do you say to the team after something like that? Keep going. You know, we just got to find a way to bounce back tomorrow. Um, you know, we’ve done a good job of bouncing back. Uh, you know, putting up 16 and like we’ve talked about this whole year, our pitching has been so good and the foundation for us and Santana has been so good foundation and, uh, just got to keep going. Seems like you guys were expecting Thomas to cover a little bit more there. What do you think was the issue with him today? Yeah, uh, command maybe, you know, pitching in course for the first time and trying to to navigate his way. Um, you know, can be can be challenging. It just seemed like the command was off. uh wasn’t able to get it exactly where he wanted to. What did you see from Dennis there in the ninth? We haven’t really seen that from him uh this season. Yeah. Um you know, I haven’t got gotten a chance to go back and look at it. Just looked like uh Slider wasn’t biting like normal and uh left a couple over up over the plate and they got a hold of him. What can you say about the offense in general? Just what you guys were able to do, you know, being able to put up that many runs. Yeah, first inning to put up nine. Um, you know, and then continued to add on when they scored some runs, we scored some runs, which was really good. I mean, talking Cruzy, how about the the grand slam, but then the throw from, you know, left center all the way to third base, him busting his butt on that ground ball to right center and getting two. I thought, um, you know, we ran the bases pretty well and, uh, you know, did some really good things offensively. And I think that that’s the thing that we got to take into tomorrow is how well we swung at bats and and competed offensively. How encouraging is it to see that you you talk about taking advantage of opportunities these final two months and guys like Gonzalez who had a rough July really broke out. Reynolds looked good as well and you talk about Cruz and how big of a deal is it to see that even if it doesn’t come to fruition in the end. Yeah. Um really good. You know, offensively, I thought we did some really good things and um you know, found a way to put some runs on the board. And I think just carrying that momentum uh into tomorrow and finding a way to to keep putting up runs and uh pitching has been so good for us all year.

  1. Probably the last game I’ll watch this year of a wasted Skenes season. Pathetic coach staying obliviously positive about a pathetic team and organization. Don Kelly is a perfect fit for this joke of an organization. Thankfully the Steelers preseason starts in a week.

  2. This loss is on the manager after it was 16:15 you have to pull him out. You can't let him in to lose the ball game. This is definitely on the manager. Yes, you worry about the psyche of the closer. But really how about worried about it now after he gave up five runs too little too late. Manager blew that one

  3. Pathetic pitching. Heaney was bad, Harrington was terrible and the new closer blew it. An inexcusable loss from a team with a losing mentality. The remainder of the series they’ll probably regress with their bats and end up being swept while scoring about four more runs total.

  4. I hope the players threw this game on purpose as protest of the absolute shit moves, specially for giving away Bednar and Falter to simply not pay them deservedly…

  5. I don't blame the Manager I blame the GM cause if you had Bednar on the mound with the Streak he is on This game is Won Plain and Simple but letting go of Talent to SAVE MONEY will keep you where you ALWAYS BEEN IN THE CEILER!!!!!

  6. The entire game was sloppy from both teams. The only reason it’s a hot topic is because of the unusually high score. Last place teams in their respective divisions. Offense always benefits and defense always suffers when teams play loose on house money. The deplorable defensive positioning by both teams alone was likely responsible for 1/3 of the total offense!

  7. If we're bringing up new guys from the minor leagues why do we keep recycling all these losers that have been here before and proven they don't belong? Harrington? I thought we had somebody named Chandler! I guess they'll leave him in AAA until his arm blows out! This is the worst run franchise in the history of all sports.
