MLB LIVE🔴 Washington Nationals vs Milwaukee Brewers – Aug 2, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Hello and welcome. Thanks for joining us. We’ve got baseball on the show. It’s the Milwaukee Brewers and the Washington Nationals. First pitch coming your way next, just about ready to go. And on the mound for Washington in this one, number 58, Chris, it’s a little more common these days, but still he’s a strikeout per inning type of guy. Well, I hear you about the strikeouts. a lot more guys striking out today. But when you consider having the ability to get that strike out, particularly when you need it, a man on third, less than two outs, situations where, yeah, maybe you’re not a real high strikeout guy, but just knowing you have the swing and miss stuff in a big spot, I think it’s real critical. And he’s got it. Selick, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. and he hits a ground ball right side and an easy out to start the game. Let’s take a look at the Brewers lineup. Not a whole lot going their way offensively the last few games, Chris. Yeah, Boo. Again, that can put more pressure on the pitching staff to try to limit the opponent to just one or two runs a game knowing that their offense is not scoring right now. And that never really works well because you try to be too fine and you end up giving up a lot of runs. So, we’ll see if everybody can just relax, bring things together, and perform at a level that they’re capable of. Jackson Chio, the batter now as he swings and misses for strike one. missed with a change up and it’s a ball and a strike. One and one. This one in the air right field. He’s got it. And there’s two downer William Contras. Two out. Space is empty. And now it’s William Contras. He is a talented player. His big brother Wilson has voice that his little brother may end up being better than he is. Fast is outside. Contrarus 27 years old and he was born at Venezuela. Swings and blasts one deep to left center and it one hops the wall. Now he’ll turn for second and he starts his afternoon off right with a double. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Here’s Yelich at the dish. That one blasted deep to right. That’s back. Tattooed to Tater Town and gone. And that should quiet this home crowd. His 21st of the year. And they throw a pair on the board. It’s two nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. Boo. I wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here, but it had just enough behind it for the homer. What an attempt at the wall, though. He really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back. Check swing on the first pitch. Appeal down to first. And that’s a swing according to umpire Matthew Ross. Now one to one. Two out. Base is empty. The wine, the kick, and the one, two, and they’ll do it again. Two down. Do on. Line drive. snags it on the run and that is that. But two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. And it’s two zip. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back in Washington DC, today’s starting pitcher, Jacob Miserowski. Base runners are tough to come by with him out there, Chris. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point. Maybe it’s the motion. But just some way, somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. CJ Abrams leading things off and takes a strike. after scoring runs. This is where you’re looking for that shut down inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. And a pitch. And the slider just misses. Foul ball still a one and two count. That’s down and in. Two strikes. backed off the plate that time. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Out to center. Chorio under this one. Hauls it in for the out. And there’s one down. Here’s Dave Martinez lineup for the Nationals. This an offense, Chris, that’s having a hard time scoring runs right now. Yeah, sometimes things just aren’t going to click. And unfortunately what happens is players press, they try to do a little bit more and they get out of their game. You’ve got to let the game come to you. If you chase it, it’s going to run from you. So this is a team that just needs to calm down, relax, and understand that they’re going to come out of this. Alex call in the box now. No balls in a strike, man. 91 on the slider right there. That’s a hard one. That’s a lowend fast ball for some pitchers. One out. Base is empty. And that’s a little high. Wow. Triple digits on the gun. I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past, but it’s still impressive to watch. Now he breaks his bat and he handles it himself for the out. Good late life on that inside fast ball. ran in on the hands and got that weak contact. Little slow grounder to get the out. Two down, base is empty. And now the switch hitting first baseman Josh Bell. He’s been tearing it up at the plate recently batting over 300 so far this month. Out to short. Out number three. And the Nationals gone in order. They trail it here two nothing. New inning getting started up now for Milwaukee. Isaac Collins. Get out of here. Swang and a ball popped up to Young and makes the grab and there’s one down. Oh, that’s a frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter right there. I mean, that pitch was right down the middle. I think he got a little too excited, came out of his mechanics, and instead of driving that ball somewhere, he popped it up. Unfortunate for him. Bryce Ter stands in here. Leaves that one off the inside. This to center field. Pulls it in on the run. Two away. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. started after it. Appeal to first. Yes, he did. That’s a swing. That one finds the zone and the count is 0 and two. [Music] swaying and a ball popped in the air. Nobody can get there and it’s a foul ball and that’s a base hit and that keeps the inning alive. Knight shortstop Joseph Ortiz. Joseph Ortiz up now for the Brewers. Ripped on the ground to second over to Low. Third out. Milwaukee leaves one, but they’re on top two nothing. Back here in Nationals Park. Bottom of the second. Digging in. Nathaniel Low. Nathaniel. Nathaniel. Miserowski back to work. Oh, that just misses. One and0. You have to be creative pitching against bad ball hitters. You got to add some velocity, subtract at times. Just avoiding the heart of the plate isn’t always going to be enough. Guys like this can hurt you with pitches you wouldn’t expect him to swing at. Sliced hard but fouled. [Music] Back up the middle and a base hit. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. These hitters today are so great with handling velocity. They’re seeing high speeds day after day and a nice job of turning that one around. Now, it’s Paul D. Young up to the plate. the Young with a swing. Highf fly ball deep left field. Just missed it. Well, off the bat, I thought for sure it had enough to get out of here, but that wind’s kind of blowing in from left and I think that’s what made the difference. And now up for Washington, Dalen Lyall. first pitch. Not close. Always tough to turn two on a speedster like this. It’s even harder with him coming out of the left-handed batters box. You really need something hit hard on the ground that they can handle to turn too quickly. Pop dump. Terra makes the grab. Two down. Batting seven. Third base. Brady House digging in for the Nationals. and that one upstairs. Ball one. Low off of first with two away. And another ball. [Music] Swinging a ground ball and it stays fair. They stop the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. But when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. And it’s the catcher for the Nationals, Riley Adams. That one is upstairs. Ball one. No strike. right through there for a strike. Back-to-back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Tying run is at first. Bottom half of inning number two. That misses. And that’s ball two. Tough spot right here. Couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Just off the inside edge, Jacob Young in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. You can do it. And they’re all loaded up. Well, the stage has been set for this offense. Boo. It’s all about creating opportunities and this is one of them right here. Two outs, bases full up now for Washington. Jacob Young. Swing and a tapper that rolls fouled. [Applause] Two outs in the dirt. It gets to the back step. Nothing happening on the bases though. The one-1 in situations like these, the air can get really thin up there at the plate. Got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down. Ground ball left side down the line and it’s fouled. [Music] line to right. Base hit. One runs in. Here’s the throw to the plate. It’s off the line and he scores. It’s 22. Oh, that’s a big bat coming through in the clutch to drive in a pair. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. And you know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field. And it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly. First and second, two outs. CJ Abrams digging in for the Nationals. 0 for one with a fly out to center and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Ball game is still tied. They can get out of this inning with a tie game. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. [Applause] Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. [Music] That’s a ball. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, you’ll look for something down in the zone, but not too far. Don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. The shorts stop takes the ball. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taking at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. Makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. Strikes him out with 102. They get two and draw even again. We head on down to the top of the third. We are tied 2-2. And welcome back to the ballpark. All set for the start of the unit. Here’s the leadoff man for the Brewers, Selick. And the first pitch misses for ball one. And another ball. There’s the strike. Two balls, one strike. Yeah, a big swing and a miss. struck him out looking. [Applause] Jackson Chorio thumb down for the Brewers Junior. And first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. That’s a little bit low. Tied up here in the early going. Late swing fouled off. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Highfly ball down the left field line. Hauls it in for the out. Two down. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Contras takes a ball as he stands in for the second time. Next offering is fouled back. Next one misses and the count two and one. Looks like he’s being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up. Doesn’t want to make another mistake. Two down. Nobody on that. One fouled off. Two and two. Outside. Christian Yelich would be next if they can extend the inning. And he’s homered already, so I’m sure he’d love a chance to do some more damage here. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Gets a piece and stays alive. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Ninth pitch of the at bat do next. And a foul ball. He stays alive in the air out towards right center. Young sizing this one up. Makes the catch in and over. We go to the bottom of the third. All even at two apiece. And we’re back. Set for the bottom of the third. And now up for Washington. Alex Call. Fought off foul. [Music] Come on DC. Next offer in there for a strike. That is strike two. Just a really nice slider down and in there. He wants to get the hitter thinking fast ball. Speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little movement. Next offering upstairs. Really good take especially with two strikes. Good job to fight that one off. lifted in the air out to left. Calls it in and there’s one away. Good pitch. He just kind of had him out in front on that pitch away and wasn’t able to stay closed. Here’s Josh Bell. Grounded out to short in his first trip. And a swing and a miss. Well, you got to find a way to catch up to that pitch. Perhaps shorten the swing, eliminate the stride. That one came in hot. But right down the middle, you’re saying to yourself, “How did I miss that pitch?” Got to make a quick adjustment. Late on that fast ball. I think he was sitting off speed there. And that’s in the dirt. Two strikes. Got him swinging. Man, that slider bearing in on your hands like that. It’s just so tough to fight off. It’s kind of like a cutter. It just can eat you up, saw you off. Tell you what, hitters have nightmares about that pitch. Perfectly executed out there on the mound. Here’s Nathaniel Low. One for one with a single and a run scored so far. Hit pretty well in the air out to center. Chorio sizes this one up. He’s got it. And that is out number three. And after three, it remains a two- two tie. Back in Washington DC, John Chi with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth, Christian Yelich. [Music] All right. And that one fouled off. The one is outside and it’s a ball and a strike. And strike two. One ball, two strikes. Got him. Swing tied him up on a fast ball inside. Andrew Vaughn now the number three overall pick out of Cal for the White Socks in 2019. That one fouled off. Check swing and he went and it’s 0 and two. No ball. Two strikes. Nope. That’s inside the air right side. Call makes the catch and there’s two away Isaac Collins. So, up next, Isaac Collins. Collins measures 5’8 in, 27 years old, and he was a ninthround draft pick back in 2019. And that one wrapped foul. Lifted in the air right center field. That one gets down for a hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Boo. I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. This is Bryce Terra fly to center his first time. Over to first and save. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Inside and the count is two and0. Chris, with that distraction and a speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. House under it. And that is that Brewer strand one. Score remains deadlocked at 2-2. Bottom of the fourth. Now it’s the second baseman, Paul D. Young. Paul D Young off the plate. And that is ball one. Well, these gnats doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count, and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. swing and a pop off in foul ground. Has room and he makes the catch. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. And now Dalen Lyall 0 for one with a fly out. Come on down. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. All tied up. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. That one in triple digits. [Music] One down, base is empty. Fast ball is outside. DC. And there’s the ball. in the air left field. Collins squeezes it and there’s two away. So, two down now and here is Brady House. Singled and scored his first time. That’s in there. Go and one. Oh, just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. [Music] Two really good backto-back sliders now in an 02 count. He’s feeling real confident about finishing this hitter off. He can go anywhere he wants. Registers the punch out and hits 101. Nothing doing for the offense that time. We played four. We are tied 2-2. Back here in Nationals Park, we go to the top of the fifth. Here’s the third baseman, number 21. It’s interesting. He plays kind of a a power spot defensively, but runs pretty well. So when you’re looking at that position, you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed, but he does. [Music] And I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed, it makes the whole team that much better. Pitch misses there. It’s a ball and two strikes. What about a playing another position on defense? one that would require a little more range. Absolutely. And I think if push came to shove where they had to make a a move during a game, surprise a lot of people. You might even be able to put him in center field. Joseph Ortiz will hit next. Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field and that is foul. on the mound. He had a little trouble back in the first, but it’s been a different story the rest of the way. Really settled into this outing nicely. Right side hard hit. D Young throws to first in time and the first two set down in the top of the fifth. Now, right back to the top of the Milwaukee order. Next for the Brewers, S Freelick. Bowl for two in this one. And that one sliced fouled. Here’s the one. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. This guy’s pounding the zone. Hitters don’t have time to think in between pitches. Freeland checks his swing. Appeal to third and he held back according to Ricky Holiday. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the fifth. Down on strikes looking for the second straight plate appearance. Three up, three down for Milwaukee. And this game is still tied at two and two. And welcome back to the ballpark. We head to the bottom of the fifth and it’s the catcher for the Nationals, Riley Adams. Miserowski back to work. They had a strike right through there. That one a triple digits. You know, these Nationals need to bring up the quality of their at bats and specifically their swings. They’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority, but it’s just not happening for them so far. zero extra base hits in the game. So, it’s been tough for him to get anything going. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Young batic with one down takes the strike. No, he’s been incredibly efficient this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point. One down. Base is empty. On the run. Sends it over to first. Nicely done for the hour. Short stop. CJ Abrams here. CJ Abrams did it. Swinging a foul straight back. [Music] Next offering is in for a strike. [Music] Ground ball right side and it kicks off the bag and they get the out after the ricochet. That’s out number three. So no runs, no hits, no errors and no one left. Five innings complete. We are tied 2-2. And we’re back. Top six up now for Milwaukee. Jackson Chorio singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him track balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. Swinging a miss as he was late. So, how much does his speed factor into his ability to go get it? It’s heartbreaking for the hitter because off the bat he thinks this ball’s going to get down because of that speed and the ability to make up so much ground. He enters the picture and breaks a guy’s heart. The one-1 ball that’s high. There’s one guy that I can think about, Boo, who started as a third baseman, Alex Gordon, and then became an elite perennial gold glover out in left field for the Kansas City Royals. But he’s a guy when you watch him play, you would imagine that that’s all he ever played in his life was the outfield. On the ground right side, he takes it on his own. Now one gone in the top of the sixth. Now catcher William Contz. Next to hit, William Contras one for two. Oh, you got to give him credit out there on the mound. on this outing. Started off a little shaky, but he’s found a way to settle in and turned this into a pretty good start. Kind of shows you a lot about his mental makeup as a pitcher. That’s in there. That’s strike one. [Music] One down. Base is empty. Upstairs. Two strikes. Cut and miss. Curve ball struck him out. Chris third time through the order and a couple of quick outs for the starter. Yeah, he’s been very frugal today. Economical with the pitch count. And now it’s Christian Yelich. He’s already homered in this game. And that one upstairs. Ball one. The lefty. The one. Hey, I got a ball. One strike. That one almost got him. [Music] That’s a ball. He hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day. He’s in danger of walking his first batter right here. check swing called strike. All tied up and we’re the top half of the sixth. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that played appearance. Works the walk. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Andre Lara on a pitch out of the pen here. Hasn’t pitched in the last three days. Go ahead run on base. Andrew Vaughn up now for the Brewers. That one back up the middle and it gets through. Throw stops the lead runner at second. Two on and two out. Went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. And the batter now, Isaac Collins, and that’s a fair ball. Yell crosses the plate. It’s an RBI single. It’s 32. Well, that was an important bat in this game. So, a great job there stepping up to the challenge. Just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it. Man, sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. Now, here is Bryce Ter in there for strike one. line drive and it stays fair. Headed for the plate. One runs in the relay. He’s in there and they’re up by three. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring it back. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. Now, the third baseman And that is out of play. That one down the line and foul ball. Going two now and this is inside. Terra on at second with two down. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball [Music] lined and that’s a base hit. Rounds third headed for the plate. He’ll score. It’s an RBI single and they lead by four. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. You’ll often hear the phrase short to it, long through it. And that’s a great example of it right there. Got the barrel in the hitting zone early, squared it up with the welltimed swing and came away with a beautiful line drive into center field. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Andre Lara out of the game and as he heads off, we’ll step aside for a minute. Back with a new pitcher after this break. Now on the mound for the Nationals, Mitchell Parker coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Next for Milwaukee, Joseph Ortiz. He’s grounded out a couple of times now. Snap throw to first and he just got his hand in there. First pitch misses. Yeah, that’s fouled off. just missed. Yeah, the pitch is in for a strike. Two and two. breaks his bat and pops it up. And that is that. So, four runs on four hits, no errors, and a runner left on. 234 up in the home half of the sixth. It’s the Brewers six and the Nationals two. Bottom of the sixth inning. Now the number two hitter, Alex Call and it’s fouled away. This is a very important inning here. After scoring all those runs, you want your pitcher to come out and just mow them down. The offense has worked hard. It’s shut down inning time. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit and the leadoff man aboard. Now batting designated hitter Josh Josh Bell at the plate now. You have to be careful throwing breaking pitches even in an O count. He loves going after the off speed stuff and he’s really good at hitting it. Now, this guy’s definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. In there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Grant Anderson getting ready to go. Kanik warming up as well. He swings and fouls one off. Stays alive. swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Pulls it in and there’s one away. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes, they make the play perfectly. Nathaniel Low up to hit. And a strike in there. Well, a good slider from an opposite-handed pitcher has to stay in that tunnel just a little bit longer. Otherwise, recognition can cause you to barrel it up. And right there, the hitter clearly couldn’t do anything with it. That one way inside [Music] two got him looking. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Here’s the second base, Paul D. Young. [Music] And first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Two outs. Runner on the go. There’s a swing and a drive. Going back. Reaching for it and brings it in. They get a leadoff single but leave him stranded. We’re through six full. It’s the Brewers six and the Nationals two. We go to the top of the seventh now. It’s the right fielder Selick. Leading off for Milwaukee rightielder Sal Parker the tall lefty. He features a fourseam fast ball, a curb, a splitter, and he works in a slider. Here’s a high-fly ball out to center. Young makes the grab. One away. Now, here’s the center fielder, Jackson Chorio. 0 for three in this one. Inside just missed. Base is empty, one away here in the top half of inning number seven. And that misses. And that’s ball two [Music] outside with a breaking ball. And that one pulled foul. [Music] out towards right center. That’s well struck. That one hops against the fence. He’s in at second with a one out double. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. One out, runner at second. And here’s the catcher, William Contrus. One for three. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. just missed. Just missed with that back door breaking ball. If he gets a swing and miss or called strike, 02 count instead. It’s 1-1. Look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat. Man at second. Runner takes off. Pitch in for a strike. The throw tag and he’s out. Especially when you’re trying to strike third base, you have to get a decent jump off the pitcher. That wasn’t it right there. And even though the throw skips in, they still slap the tag on him in time. Not a great attempt right there. Swing and a miss and he struck him out. And it’s a three up, three down inning. Nobody left for Milwaukee. They lead it six-2. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Grant Anderson. And he’s got a nice lead to work with, so he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. Up now for Washington, Dalen Lyall. He’s someone that you might not describe as having elite level speed, but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Boo. This guy’s definitely a plus runner, but what I love about him is that he goes all out every single time. Never takes a break. It’s guys like that. Even though they don’t have the elite speed, the fact that they’re consistent with it, they make moves on the base paths. Throws to first. They get them, but it was pretty close. [Music] Brady House. So, digging in, Brady House struck out on just three pitches last time. Next offering is in for a strike. One ball, one strike. That’s to third. And that one handled on to first. And a couple of quick outs. Good late bite on that slider. Got the hitter out in front. Rolled over on it. Exactly what he was supposed to do. Two outs. Space is empty. Riley Adams digging in for the Nationals. Breaking ball inside. And that’s ball one. Two down, nobody on here in the bottom of the seventh. And now it’s even up. I got one ball, one strike. That one missed. That one misses. Three balls in a strike. And there’s a rocket into the outfield and that’s going to get into the corner around first heading for two. The throw into second, not in time. It’s a double. Showed some really nice patience in that at bat. Worked himself into a good count. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. And now Jacob Young. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball. That’s off the inside corner. Ball one. Man on second, two down. Swinging a miss at a slider. I got a ball. One strike. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. That one to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So, one left for Washington. They still trail it here. It’s six-2. Back here in Nationals Park leading off Christian Yelich Parker back to work. That one ripped and that’s got extra bases written all over it into second easily with a leadoff double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. That pitch came off the bat really well into center field and he clearly put a nice swing on it. And anytime you can get one to drop in out there, you know, you stung it pretty good because it seems like center fielders these days to a man, these guys can run down just about everything hit their way. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Next for the Brewers, Andrew Vaughn. Not close with that one. And that’s ball one. [Music] Two balls in the dirt. Check swing went around now. Two balls in a strike. Two balls, one strike. There’s the strike. That’s good pitch there. Had some run and finished really up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. And we’re in the top of the eighth. And that one upstairs. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. [Music] and ball four to a board. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the walk. Very gritty. Isaac Collins up now for the Brewers. And that’s him for a strike. One-1. Really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter. The other way. Fair ball. Yell flies around third. One run is in. Runner holds it third. So just one across on the play. Comes through with the RBI. That can be a dangerous pitch if you don’t get it inside enough because as a hitter, you see it coming across the plate the whole way. No problem handling it and putting a good swing on it that time. Bryce Terra now at the plate. That pitch in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. way out front for strike two. Well, he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit, but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs, you’ve got to expand the zone. He’s capable of going out there and doing damage with it. [Music] in the dirt. Nice job behind the plate there on the ground right side down the line and it’s foul. But I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield in the dirt. Wow, that’s a great job behind the dish there. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Hanging in there pretty good against the lefty. He fouls it off. We’ll do it again. Ninth pitch of the at bat. Do next. Swinging a ball hit out towards left center field. Base hit. One run is in. A second scores as well. And they’re pulling away up by seven now. Big one there as he drives in a couple of runs. That ball right there landed in what they call the no man’s land. Meaning it’s not really a spot on the field where you can expect anyone to get to it easily. I mean, it’s a tough play going back for the shortstop, but also for the outfielders trying to come in. They got to go a long way as well. Manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the nationals pen. Mitchell Parker gives way and as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. Now on the bump, Jose a Ferrer. Definitely a guy that pounds the strike zone, makes hitters earn their way on base, and rarely gets in trouble because of free passes. No outs. Runner at first. Here’s the third baseman. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. just missed. This is one of those situations defensively where you can’t try to do too much. You got to make sure that you feel the ball cleanly and get one out first. It’s going to be tough to get two with this kind of speed in the batters box. Terra aboard here at first with nobody out. This one smacked out to left center. A dive and he can’t haul it in. Lead runner makes the turn at second. coming home. He’s safe and it’s now 102. That’s now three hits in a row for the offense. Solid swing from start to end. On time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension. And he met it out front for the line drive knock. So man aboard Joseph Ortiz digs in now. Popped up foul territory behind the play. Has room and he makes the catch. Plenty of offense in this one. Singing I guess you’d say kind of what we expected though. Well, this was a game looking at the pitching matchup where you expected offense to score and not as lopsided as this. Um, but yeah, you definitely expected to see some offense coming up. Freeland stands in now and watches strike one outside low. One ball, one strike. Still only one out here in the inning and that’s ripped into left. Base hit now. A long throw home, but it’s offline and they now lead by nine. Love how he let that ball travel. Trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. Man at first with one gone. Up now for Milwaukee. Jackson Chorio one for four with a double. That misses. Ball one. Man at first. One away. Ground ball right side. Could be two to second. Abrams onto first. Double play. And that’s the inning. But they tack on five runs. Last half of the eighth. Coming up, it’s the Brewers 11 and the Nationals two. Back here in a blowout, which gives us a chance to talk about just about anything. Bro, don’t get me fired. Sing, you grew up in the Bay Area. Did you have a favorite player as a kid? Yeah, I love the A’s lineup. I mean, guys like Ricky Henderson, Dave Kingman, Terry Steinback. Um, I mean, you just go on and on. Tony Armis, uh, just some tremendous rosters back then. And I loved as a kid getting on the BART train, the Bay Area Rapid Transit, pulling up right there to the stadium, and then going in and watching the game. Next offering is in for a strike. You also had the pleasure of going over and hitting and taking batting practice at a big leaguer’s house. Who was that? Yeah. Willie McGee. One of the greatest of all time in my opinion. Not in your neighborhood. Yeah. His folks live right down the street from me. And that’s where his batting cage was. I used to look out of my backyard down the hill and just dream of one day maybe being able to go over and hit with them. And that dream became a reality when I was drafted by the San Francisco Giants. And now the right fielder Alex call. First pitch misses. Hit on the ground to the right side and that’s just fouled. slice down the right side. The Brewers up big in this one here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Two down. Now that is designated Josh. Two down, base is empty. And next is the designated hitter Josh Bell. Fast for a strike. Swing and a tapper over to first. Nats go down one, two, three. This one pretty well decided at this point. Ninth inning coming up. It’s the Brewers 11 and the Nationals two. We go to the ninth. Here’s the catcher, William Contras. Well, I got a chance to meet William during spring training as he was coming up trying to get to the big leagues, and this kid’s got some ridiculous pop. Watched him on the back fields taking batting practice. All of his coaches would just kind of roll their eyes and say, “This kid’s going to be great.” Without actually saying the words. Then later that season, I got a chance to chat with Wilson, Big Brother, and ask him about Little Brother. And he smiled as well, said, “Yeah, he’s good.” and gave me that look that I think he might be better than me eventually. Breaking ball in there. Got him looking and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Now it’s Christian Yelich. He’s already homerred here in this one. And first offering is fouled off. Fouled off left side. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Two outs, space is empty. Andrew Vaugh up now for the Brewers. And that one hit 97 on the gun. Hey, seven straight strikes to start the frame. He’s got a chance in an immaculate inning. That one catches the corner for a strike. All right, there’s number eight. One away. Fights it off. He’ll see another. Well, two outs and a chance to put up a zero on the scoreboard here. And that’s not something that’s come easy for this staff in this one. Swing and a base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Isaac Collins. Isaac Collins up now for the Brewers. Ball one low. [Music] Two outs. And another ball. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. That’s down and in. Bryce Terraang in the Milwaukee on deck circle. [Music] Check swing and he went. Three balls, two strikes. Three and two. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. Vaughn off of first with two away. Ground ball up the middle. Abrams now the throw to first on the run in time. Got him. And that’ll do it. Milwaukee leaves one and it remains an 11-2 ball game. back in Washington DC. And now the first baseman, Nathaniel Low. Nathaniel. A little out front there as he swings through it. Oh, and one. Next offering is fouled back. Fouls it off. Still one and two. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. Down to the dirt. Swing and a miss. Up with it. Fires to first and he’ll be safe at first. Well, fortunately, they’ve got a big lead on the scoreboard, so that error shouldn’t hurt too much. But you have to be careful about losing concentration in a game like this. Can be an easy trap to fall into. Man at first, nobody out. Now it’s the second baseman, Paul D. Young. Swing and a miss. Strike one. 01’s the count. [Applause] Here comes the Owan. Just missed one and one to first. Maybe a two ball. goes to second for one, but safe at first. It’s a fieldielder’s choice. That is Lyall. Dalon Lyle getting ready to hit. First pitch just misses. The Nationals with a lot of ground to make up. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Next offering is in for a strike. And that’s down and away. to short. Could be two offbalance feed. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. So, they’re down to their final out at the plate. Brady House. right through there for a strike. Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. Anderson is just one strike away. Good eye in that spot. That turns out to be a really good take right there. But you don’t want to end this game with the bat on your shoulder. Just off the inside edge. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. The change up missing. Full count. Three and two. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score it. So now two on and two outs. Well, interesting. He went with the off speed and walked the hitter. Man, you got to challenge the guy with the fast ball. So, two on with two away. Next to hit for the Nats, Riley Adams. Hit to the left side and this is going to do it. Throw to first. Ball game and the Brewers slug their way to a win in this one. Offensive explosion today for these players. They gave up a few runs, but they had more than enough firepower to turn this one into a blowout. 112 the final tally for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.
