MLB LIVE🔴 Pittsburgh Pirates vs Colorado Rockies – Aug 2, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
and welcome into the ballpark. Happy to have you with us. Major League Baseball on tap. It’s the Pittsburgh Pirates going up against the Colorado Rockies. And now, and we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. Colorado Rockies just about to get underway and towing the slab for Colorado in this one. Bradley Bllelock, what do we need to know here? Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Tommy Fan, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. First pitch 111. And that’s a little high. Next pitch is outside and there’s the automatic. That one misses. So a lead off walk. He tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. hitter didn’t offer it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. And now it’s Andrew McCutchen. Knee high. That’s him for a strike. Let’s get the easy. Let’s go. That one in there across the letters. Fan on at first. Nobody out. Base hit. Rudder stops at second and the first two reach to start the inning. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the at bat after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. First and second, no outs at the plate for Pittsburgh. Nick Gonzalez just missed. No outs. Runners at first and second. And that one fouled off. Just missed. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. First and second here. No outs. that missed inside. Three and one. Good pitchers make pitches in big situations. And right here with a middle of the order hitter up, runner in scoring position, he’s got to find a way to throw a quality strike. And that’ll load the bases. Oh, that sets up a really big at bat in this game. These are the moments when everyone in the stadium gets really locked in. Base is loaded. Nobody out. Here’s O’Neal Cruz. This one chopped on the ground but fouled. Line drive and this might be trouble. One runs in. A second scores as well. He’s in there. It’s three zip. No, that bat had a lot riding on it. Certainly a pivotal swing of the bat in this ball game. Kind of a risky pitch coming inside with the breaking ball like that. You have to bury it. Otherwise, it’s not too difficult to get the bat to it like he did that time. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Now batting Key Brian Hayes. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. Line to left. Makes a nice grab at a full sprint. And there’s one down. We take a check of the Pirates lineup put together by manager Derek Shelton. The sluggers in this lineup might not be too happy about the fact that the wind is blowing in today, Chris. Yeah. And you hear pitchers talk about how good it feels when the wind is at their back. And for hitters, you almost feel like beyond just the pitcher coming at you, you got this other force coming against you. So important to try to get on top of the ball in terms of hitting line drives. You know, maybe really hard ground balls with a good exit velocity that’ll get you a base hit because it’s Oh, and now a wild pitch. So a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Well, he’s got nobody to blame but himself. With one out, a runner on third can come home all sorts of ways now. That’s why as a pitcher, you have to execute pitches even better when they’re runners on base. Still only one out here in the inning. Swing in a liner. Base hit out into right center field. In comes the run from third and it’s 4 nothing. The throw to second is offline. Comes through with the RBI. Anytime you can drive a ball into the gap the other way, it feels so good. And that’s when you know you’re right where you need to be at the plate. And it’s even better when it gets you extra bases. Love looking in at your dugout and seeing the guys fired up. So next to the plate for Pittsburgh, Leo Pagarro. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Well, it’s not the inning he was planning on to begin this start, but you’ve got to find a way to shake things off and give your team some length and put up some zeros. Swang and a miss. I would throw another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Runner at second here. One gone up the middle. Estrada throw to first in time. Batting eight catcher Henry Davis. Here’s the Pirates catcher now. Henry Davis. Well, they’ve been able to score four runs off of them in this inning. And this is where you want to just max out. Get as much as you can. Give him one of those tough innings where it’s going to be hard for him to recover in the next one. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Swings through that one for strike two. No balls. Two outs with a runner at third. Swings through that one. It’s a strikeout. So they move out in front after a fourrun outburst onto the bottom of the first. It’s the Pirates four and the Rockies coming up back here at Coorsfield and today’s starter Mitch Keller. Yeah, and as Whip tells you, he’s been pretty effective this year on the mound. I mean, opposing hitters having a hard time getting on base and then being able to really distract him and do damage in terms of getting around the base path. So, taking the mound, this is a guy you want out there if you’re his teammate and I expect him to be good in this one. So, in now for Colorado, Tyler Freeman. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. That’s ball two. Two and0. Oh, he botches it, but he wins the foot race to first. Good job of knowing how much time he had there. Time to check out the Rockies lineup. And probably their most productive player so far this year, Hunter Goodman. And he’s leading them in runs batted in this season, which tells me this guy is able to slow things down when it seems like there’s a little bit of pressure. And he’s looking at as an opportunity to do damage. You know, a lot of guys, they see runners on base and they get big, they feel like all this pressure, I’ve got to get these runs in, but somehow he seems to settle into these situations. So, watch out when he comes to the plate. Mickey Moniac the next to hit takes outside. Late swing. Fouled to the left. One out. Base is empty. And delivers outside. Foul ball down to the dirt. Swing and a miss. Ow. Two away now after the drop third strike. Batting third catcher. Next for Colorado, Hunter Goodman. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. Right through there for a strike. 01’s the count. Swing in a ball hammered left field and that one’s gone into the bleachers. He jacks that one out to left. Home run number 20 on the year. And they close the gap. It’s 4-1. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Oh, that one got in the jetream on a line drive. We saw the numbers on the backs of the jerseys of the outfielders, which is usually bad news. And all of a sudden, they’re back in this ball game. And here is Jordan Beck. Ball one, no strikes. Swing it. A popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. Two down. Do on. Pitch is in the dirt. Now two balls in a strike. And that one clips the corner. Was good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge and and he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes, but not before they’re able to draw closer with this blast. It’s now a 4-1 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Second inning, set to go. Isaiah Connor Falefa up to the plate. Fa Blotlock back to work. Connor Falefa in his eighth season, 29 years old, and he was drafted in the fourth round back in 2013. Check. Swing called strike. That’s strike two. Swing and a miss. Curve ball in the dirt. Up with it. Fires to first. Gets him. One away on a drop third strike. That’s a pretty nasty pitch right there. I call it a power curve ball in the 80s. It’s got so much spin on it and you really don’t have a lot of time to sit back and watch what it’s going to do before you have to commit. It was a good one for the swinging strikeout. Here’s Tommy Fam. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Makes the catch and a couple of quick outs. Now batting designated hitter Andrew McCutchen. Here’s Cutch to the dish. One for one with a single so far. Rockies. And that one is inside. Singi. He wasn’t real sharp in the first. Got hit around, but really more so didn’t throw a ton of strikes. Well, he’s just got to find a way to settle down. He was clearly fighting himself out there. Not really finding the strike zone, walking batters. So, we’ll see if he can get back on track and fill up the zone a little bit more. Fouled off left side. Swing and a ground ball out to short. Boots it and he’s going to make it to first and we’ll see how they score. It looked to me like he kind of let the ball play him instead of playing the ball and it just ate him off. Hands get stiff and even the best infielders make these kinds of mistakes. You just have to learn from it and move on. Man at first. Up next for the Pirates, Nick Gonzalez. He walked and came around to score his first time up. And that one upstairs Let’s go delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. McCutchen off of first with two away. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. Two strike cut out and miss. struck him out and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Pirates lead one, but they lead it four to one. Back here in Denver, now it’s the second base, Tyro Estrad. Basement Tyrone Aster. Slice down the right side. Swung on. Belted. Canario on the move. And that one hops the wall. And that’s a leadoff double. He was all over that one. Put a really nice balanced swing on it. And when you can rope one into the gap like that, you’re thinking extra bases from the first couple of steps out of the box. And he feels real good about that. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Now it’s the rookie first baseman, warming Bernabel at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Keller, he’s the kind of starter that a lot of pitching coaches and managers as well really appreciate. Not a guy who’s gonna get himself into trouble by dancing around by walking guys. That one finds the zone and it’s nothing too. Yeah, he throws strikes and you know he’s got the command be in the zone, be effective, but just moving the ball around, getting the ball back from the catcher, Boo, and throwing the pitch. It’s an interesting thing when you consider limiting walks. Is it more important today because of how many home runs are being hit? No doubt. Keeping guys off the base pass with the way the swings and the launch angles are today. The emphasis of hitting home runs is so huge. It’s never been more important. Next to hit for the Rockies, Brenton Doyle. He’s going to finish with a new careerhigh in stolen bases. Chris. Yeah. I think the other part though as well is it goes both ways because I think that pitchers at times are more than willing to give up walks because they’ll come back and strike the next guy out. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. Oh, and one comes up empty. That’s strike two. Oh, that’s that slurp right there. He threw it extremely well. Talk about just a ton of break. So tough to get that barrel to. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. No, you got to be ready to swing the bat with a runner in scoring position in two strikes. Just put the ball in place somewhere and you got a chance. Very frustrating for him, I’m sure. See if the next guy can pick him up. Cal Farmer up to the plate now. And that’s outside and that is ball one. That one to first. Pagarro. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. The Rockies strand one and they trail it 4-1. And welcome back to the ballpark. All set for the start of the inning. And now the center fielder O’Neal Cruz. And the first offering is not close. It’s been a rough start on the mound for this guy. This third inning so important for him to get on track, turn the page, settle in, do all those things you need to do to give your team a little bit of length in this one. Looks like he’s being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up. Doesn’t want to make another mistake. That one missed now. Three and 0. Check swing called strike. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Well, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a TE, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. Hayes batting for the second time. And that’s strike one. You know, these Pirates doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. They’ve worked three walks already, so that proves they’re not anxious up there. They’re sticking to their game plan and it’s working. And that one way outside. Yeah, the count one and two. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. Cruz gets his lead at first. Nobody out. Line drive, base hit, throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. I could watch base hits like that one all day long. And so could every hitting coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. Now it’s Alexander Canario. He doubled home a run in his first AB and that’s too high. First and second, no outs. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Next offering is in for a strike. Stirring in the Colorado bullpen. Anel Shvi up and loosening in the pen. Outside corner. There’s a strike. One ball, two friends. Right through there. Got him. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Boom. He was shopping at the buckle right there. The way that slider made him look. That was just nasty. Leo. Now here is Leo Pagarero. Rolled out to second in his first at bat. Well, Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. One out. Runners at first and second. The next pitch misses. Two balls, two strikes. gets a piece and stays alive. Two on, one out. Line drive to second with the throw. No chance to get back. It’s a double play. So, one left for Pittsburgh as they hold on to a 4-1 lead. And we’re back. Bottom of the inning. And now Orlando. Orlando Aria drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck way back there and it’s into the bleachers. It’s out of here. He made him pay for that one and they inch closer. It’s 4-2. This game just got a little more interesting with that home run. A breaking ball on the inside part of the plate requires a hitter to stay really square with his mechanics. If you fly open with the front shoulder, there’s no way you keep that ball fair. An outstanding job mechanically. He deserves that home run. Freeman in the box now. No balls in a strike. 0 and one. Oh, you just got to delete it. You give up that leadoff home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. Love how vocal the umpire is today. No doubt in the hitter’s mind, catcher’s mind, and even the pitcher’s mind as to the conviction in the call. Puts it in the air out towards left center. Coming on is Fam to make the play. And there’s one down. Up next for the Rockies, right fielder Mickey Mickey Monia digging in for the Rockies. 0 for one so far. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. One and0. One out. Base is empty and a run in here in the last half of the third. Laser could be trouble. Now he’ll turn for second and he’ll pull into second safely and this ball’s going to wind up out of play. Clearly that was a solid double all the way. Nice swing of the bat right there, but that just can’t happen on defense getting the ball back into the infield. You’ve got to make a decent throw your infielders can handle. Just gave him an extra 90 ft for free. The batter now Hunter Goodman. He’s already homered here in this one. That one ripped. off the rocks and out of here. A home run. Another homer. He’s done it again. His second homer of the game and it ties it up. It’s 44. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat booth. Aggressive and it paid off. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Jordan Beck digging in for the Rockies. Off the mark there. Ball one. And another ball. Keller maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run, Chris. Yeah, it seems that way. You know, guys, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch. They’re not trusting their stuff. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? No, partner. Every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and then you have a great show. Uh so perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken up, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. Man at first with one gone. Here’s the second baseman, Tyro Estrada. Close but called a ball and it’s one and0. Six straight outside the strike zone. Chris, with that distraction and a speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter’s count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. Keller checks over to first and he’s back. Misses with the 200 and he’s fired three straight outside the strike zone and ball four to a board. That just came apart right there. four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone. Two on, one out. So in now for Colorado warming Bernabel grounded out his first time. There’s the strike. There was a high velocity fast in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. Right-hander kicks, steals, there’s a swing and a miss. He’s looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this jam. Fights it off. He’ll see another. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And takes low from ball one. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Outside low. Two and two. Bet on second. Estrada over at first. So one away. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And it’s a full count. And that’s a pitch early in this game. He needs called for a strike. Struggling with command issues. He’s got to get a little help from the umpire. Tied at four. That’s a good bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. Well, he’s normally going to fill up the strike zone and really limit base runners, but his command in this one just seems off out there. A lot more walks than he’s used to giving up. Doyle takes a ball as he stands in for the second time. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. Line drive, brings it in. Runner tanks for home. He’ll score on the sack fly. And it’s now 54. Well, he hit that one pretty well. I think it would have been a lot more than a sack fly if not for that nice play by the outfield to track it down. Good job of getting the run in. Kyle Farmer the next to hit 0 for one. He ground it out in his first at back. That one finds the zone and it’s 0 and one. Well, a really rough inning out there on the mound. And uh this is one of those where you learn a lot about a guy’s toughness and his ability to turn the page and keep pressing forward. Next offering is fouled back. battling here as he fouls it away. Swag and a miss. The velocity blasted it right past him. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now a 54 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show as we go to the top of the fourth at the plate for Pittsburgh. Henry Davis Rockies. Yeah, the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Well, he hasn’t quite settled in out there. Four runs in three innings. He’s going to have to have some quick one, two, three innings to pitch deep into this ball game. Strike two. He has a tendency to chase out of his own. And that slider that’s down, that’s one of his money pitches to get that swing and miss. He goes down looking. Well, definitely a borderline pitch right there. And he didn’t look too convinced as he headed back to the dugout. No, those are tough ones to let go as a hitter, but with a human umpire calling balls and strikes, it’s always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes. Here is Isaiah Ker Falefa line drive and that gets down for a base hit. And now the lineup turns over with one away. Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. Ripped that one down the line and kept it fair. And even when you hit it that far out front, you still have to keep your hands tight to your body so you don’t hook around that baseball and put it in foul territory. And that right there was perfect. Now a chance for Tommy Fan. Late swing fouled off. Tying run is at first. Top half of inning number four. Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. That one way outside. One and two to cow. O2 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. Block throws over. Conor Falefa dives back in. man at first. One away in the dirt but kept close. Come on. In the dirt. Throw to second. Not in time. He’s there easily. And now a man into scoring position. Really good read by the runner there. His secondary lead. He anticipates the trajectory going down and gets a really nice jump up to second base. Now he’s in scoring position. He’s taken away the double play opportunity. Conor Falefa, the runner at second with one away. Swing and a miss. Got him to go up the ladder for the K. That was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitter, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Here’s McCutchen. One for two. There’s the strike of the knees. The pitch to McCutchen. That one misses. One and one. Rockies. Just missed. Yeah, that’s fouled off. And now the count is full. And another power hitter lurking in the on deck circle. A swing. Now it appeal to first and he held back according to Larry Bullard. Oh, looking for a swing and miss right there or for the ump to help him out and make a call with that last pitch, but neither happened. Close pitch, but a good take to earn that walk. Manager out of the dugout now. And it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Bradley Bllelock is done and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. Now pitching. Anel Shave gets the call from the pen. Well, at this point in the ball game, we’re talking about middle innings and the little length out of this arm coming out of the bullpen. We’ll see just how many outs he’s able to give his skipper. Nick Gonzalez, the next pirate to him. A strike out and a walk. First offering misses badly for ball one. Two on, two outs. on the ground right side. That’s the third out. So they strand a pair to the bottom of inning number four. Now it’s the Rockies five and the Buckos four. Back here at Coorsfield. Bottom four. Here’s Orlando RC. short stop. Orlando Aria right through there for a strike. All these Rockies showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. Not only have they already put up a bunch of runs on the board, but they’ve also made the starter work really hard out there. Like I said, his pitch count is high, so I got to expect they’ll be turning to their bullpen sooner than they had hoped. Here’s Tyler Freeman to hit. Go for two in this one. Freeman hits it in the air. Canario, he makes the catch and there’s two down. Now batting right fielder Mickey next for Colorado Mickey Moniac Rockies and that is in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. 0 and one. And that one is inside ball one. Clearly, he hasn’t had it in this game. And looks like sooner than later. They’re going to have to go to the bullpen. Next offering in there for a strike. And it’s one and two. struck him out looking. So they make short work of him there. We played four. It’s the Rockies five and the Buckos four. Back here in Denver, top five. John Shabi with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, O’Neal Cruz. Let’s go Rockies. All right, Rockies. And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Oh, here’s a deal not everyone remembers. Cruz was actually signed by the Dodgers in 2015 for Los Angeles Delt Pittsburgh in 2017 for Tony Watson. That’s a rare trade. that the Dodgers just might regret. Breaking ball misses down and away. Swanging a ground ball up the middle. Fires to first on the run and he gets him. Nicely done. Well, he had to make the perfect play up the middle, be able to square himself up with the shoulders enough to be able to make a strong, accurate throw to first. And I thought that was an infield hit all the way. Here’s the third baseman, Kee. Ryan Hayes, down the middle for a strike. 4 and one. Shvi, a 6’2 righty, 22 years old, and he was born in the Dominican Republic. One down, base is empty to the left side, but it is well fouled. the 02 and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Base is empty, one away and we’re in the top of the fifth. Outside low and that’s ball one. That’s in ball two. on the ground. Estrada gets it to first and the first two set down in the top of the fifth. Up next for Pittsburgh, right fielder Alexander. So next to the plate for Pittsburgh, Alexander Canario Rockies. Come on Rockies. That one hit to right. Moniac pulls it into the inning. No runs, no hits, no errors. Last half of the fifth coming up, it’s the Rockies five and the Buckos four. And welcome back to the ballpark. We head to the bottom of the fifth and now Hunter Goodman. Keller back to work. Swings through that one for strike one. Bullpen action for the Pirates. Andrew Heeney loosening up in case he’s called upon by Derek Shelton. Machinsky getting cranked up as well on a line. Bas and a good start to the inning. Clearly seeing the ball very well in this one. Just a really nice approach to shoot that line drive to the opposite field. There’s a lot of hard work and discipline that goes into getting a result like that at the plate. Doesn’t come naturally for most hitters. Here’s the left fielder, Jordan Beck. He’s 0 for one. That one hammered but pulled foul. Goodman aboard here at first with nobody out. Fought off foul Rockies. Get out of here. Get on the ground to the right side. Steps on the bag for one to second, but way too late. Safe there. Now batting second base, Tyrone Astera. Here comes the skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Mitch Keller will depart and the home run really bit him today as he exits on the hook for the loss. New arm coming on after the break. Now pitching for we’ve got ourselves a pitching change. Carmen Majinski on for his 20th appearance of the year. Tyro Estrada to the plate. Bounding ball here. Rolls. Foul. Come on. That’s a little high. And now it’s even. One and one. Two in the dirt. That misses. Ball three. That one fouled off. Man at second and ball forward to a board. You get a walk and you get a walk. Everyone gets a walk. First baseman. And here’s the first baseman warming Bernabel. Well, the way these two teams have battled in this game, you know, you need more. Got to continue to add runs if you’re going to get out of here with the win. top of the zone for a called strike. Well, in this situation with runners on, you’ve got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Don’t play situation here. He’s been working up in the zone. Typically, you look for guys to get that ground ball. See if he adjusts on this next pitch. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. Ball one there. Two strike two. Squirts away a little bit. Both runners move up. Two in scoring position now. And that takes away the double play. Got to take advantage of this opportunity now because of the wild pitch. They’ve got two runners in scoring position. Good time for the hitter to lock in. Put the ball in play hard somewhere. Swing and a miss. Struck him out of the slider. And there’s two gone. Boogie just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count off. Two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. Doyle in the box, lays off for ball one. He’s got a base open, so the pressure to come in and really attack this hitter not as great as it would be if the bags were sacked. Swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left center. Coming on his fam to make the play. Two left for Colorado as they hold on to a 54 lead. And we’re back. And stepping in is the speedy Leo Pagaro. First baseman Lev Pagarero. You know, this guy’s great speed is in the back of that pitcher’s mind. If he can get on, it’s going to give him one more thing he’s got to think about. Last couple of pitches, breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. Right side hard hit in plenty of time to first. Leadoff man retired in the six. Now batting catcher Henry Davis. Here’s the Pirates catcher now Henry Davis who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. He swings and misses at the first pitch. 0 and one. Filthy change up right there. Just pulled the string. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Moniac moving under this one. Snags it for the second out. Now batting shorts stop Isaiah. Up next for the Pirates Isaiah Ker Falefa outside low and that is ball one. That’s ball two. gets the slider in there for a strike. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. Lifted in the air right center field. Moniac brings it in for the third out. So they go quietly there. 891 scheduled in the bottom of the sixth. It’s the Rockies five and the Buckos four. Bottom of the six. So in for Colorado, Kyle Farmer Kyle Farmer and first offering is fouled off. Next offering is fouled back. Caught him looking for the K. Up next. And now the shorts stop Orlando Aria. He blasted one out earlier in the third. Just a solo home run, but an important swing of the bat in this game. We’ve already seen him do it once. Can he do it again? And action in there for strike one. Let’s go. You can do it. Got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. No balls, two strikes. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Well, clearly just anxious right there. And understandably so. In an 02 count, you feel like you’ve got a lot of plate to cover and you don’t want to strike out and you end up striking out. That’s just one of those pitches where it’s not over the plate, but because you committed to it as it was leaving his hand, by the time you realized it wasn’t going to be in the zone, it’s too late to hold up your swing. Two outs to the right side, Agarero. He’ll do it himself. It’s a one, two, three inning for the Rockies. So, no runs, no hits, no errors, and no one left. We’re through six full. It’s the Rockies five and the Buckos four. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. And he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year. Typically at least one in innings, so he’ll be tough to get to. Tommy Fan getting ready to hit. Leftielder Tommy Fan. That one back up the middle and it gets through and the tying run is on with a leadoff single. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. Just kept it simple. Played pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down. No outs, runner at first. Here’s Andrew McCutchen to hit. And that is downstairs. One and0. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in the scoring position. Trying to hold a one-run lead here in the top half of inning number seven. Bird picks to first. with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. That one missed. Fou off the plate. They’ll do it again. Van on at first. Nobody out. And that one lifted in the air. Center field. One away. Now batting second baseman Nick Gonzalez. Nick Gonzalez the next pirate to hit. Swag and a miss. Oh, and one liner snagged it first. The tag gets him and it’s a double play to end the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Seventh inning, stretch time. It’s the Rockies five and the Buckos four. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Dennis Santana. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. Well, one-run game. Now, the number two hitter, Mickey Monia. Mickey Monia. That’s too low. And that’s ball one. Activity in Pittsburgh’s bullpen. Number 47 loosening up in case he’s called upon by Derek Shelton. Cabrera also getting ready the 10. And another ball. Ball two. Looking good. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Hayes sizes this one up. Has room and he makes the catch. Now batting catcher Hunter Goodman. And now the catcher comes up to him. Hunter Goodman. And the way he’s going in this one, we’ve been waiting for his spot to come around again. All right, listen everyone. Stop what you’re doing right now. This guy’s got two home runs already. Now he’s going for number three. Ground ball left side sends it to first. Two up, two down. Deceptive slider right there. Stayed in the tunnel a long time. Got that hitter out front, rolled over it, put it on the ground. Now the left fielder, Jordan Beck. And that drops in for a strike. And a foul ball. It needs to throw that breaking ball with just a little more conviction to get the swing and miss. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Two down to got and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Nothing doing for the Rockies. They lead it 5-4. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Victor Vodnik. And we all know about a slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. Vodnik. Here’s the center fielder, O’Neal Cruz. No, this guy a player that if he gets on base has the ability to really be aggressive getting around the base pads. That’s in for a strike. Action in the pen down there. Seth Calverick, the rookie right-hander, is getting loose. looking to get the tying run on base. And that one fouled off. Now this is in the air down the line and no one can get to it. It’s a foul ball. Got him swinging. Pretty good strike out right there to start this eighth inning. Down one, any lead off base runner really makes this inning a bit more interesting. But now this offense has to switch from possibly trying to manufacture a run to needing to run into something or just try to string multiple hits together to get a run across the plate. Now the third baseman, Kee Ryan Hayes, one for three in there at the knees and it’s 0 and one. holding on to a one-run lead and we’re in the top of the eighth. That misses the zone and the count is one and one. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. And now two balls in a strike. And there’s a ball. Almost feel like he’s frustrated a little bit. He wants to be challenged. Alexander Canario in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. One down. Base is empty. Swing and a high-fly ball right field. pulls it down and he makes the catch and there’s two down. Now batting rightiel. Now it’s the right fielder Alexander Canario and ball one. Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. And that’ll do it. Three up, three down for him there. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead. It’s the Rockies five and the Buckos four. Ready for the bottom of the eighth. Now it’s the second baseman. Tyro Estrada. Tyro Estrada. Santana back to work. Santana in his fifth season, he features a slider, a fourseamer, a cutter, a sinker, and he works in a change up. Next offering in there for a strike. One ball, one strike. One strike. And a foul ball. very high with that one. That’s right. Now two and two, stays alive. Next pitch is outside. Ah, that hit him. And the lead off man is aboard to start the inning. Now that so a man at first and now the first baseman warming Bernabel. First offering and it just misses. Estrada gets his lead at first. Nobody out. Swinging a foul straight back. The one-1 is fouled off. One and two now. Just misses with that one. Just missing off the plate there according to the umpire and out there on the mound. Maybe trying to get an explanation. Can’t say he’s convinced, but it looks like he’s accepted it. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mount, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. 3-2 now. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. And ball four to a board. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the walk. Very gritty. First and second, no outs. Next to hit for the Rockies. Brenton Doyle, third baseman playing on the edge of the grass looking for the sack bun. That’s down and in. A slider missed. Well, this is a critical spot for both the pitcher and the hitter. You can learn a lot about a guy by how he handles these pressure situations. And the one and another ball. Next offering is fouled back. And a big swing and a miss. Two balls, two strikes. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field. Canario grabs it on the run. Those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Dennis Santana gives way and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching for a new pitcher in the game number 47. And this could be a pretty critical point in this game. They’re hoping he’s the guy to keep him within striking distance. Kyle Farmer digging in for the Rockies. 0 for three in this one. Swings through that one. 0 and one. 01’s the count. Runners at first and second with one gone. Come on, Rocky. Foul ball still 0 and two. Come on, Rocky. That one the other way. And that’s a base hit. Estrada around third. He’ll score. It’s 64. We don’t see this a whole lot anymore where hitters with two strikes are willing to shorten up, tighten up, and try to hit the ball back up the middle other way. He was trying to hit that hole, I believe. Very good at bat with two strikes. Runners are the corners here. One away. Arcio digs in now. He’s already homerred in this game. Jack swing went around. That’s strike one in the infield at the corners. Don’t be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring. Runners are at the corners. One away. Swinging a foul out of play. way inside and that hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Tyler Freeman digging in for the Rockies. Golden opportunity right here. Boo. This has been a good one. A really good game to this point and huge opportunity with the bases loaded. There’s the strike. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. That’s the third base hit. One run is in. He’ll throw to third. Not in town. He’s safe. Nicely done. Brings home two. Just one of those seen eye base hits through the infield. He just kind of rolled over on it a little bit, but sometimes those can find a hole and get you enough. Two on, one out. Next to hit, Mickey Monia. Ball. Ball one. Traffic on the bases with three already across here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Oh, that this one in the dirt. Throw to second. Not in time. He’s there easily. Got to take advantage of this opportunity now because of the wild pitch. They’ve got two runners in scoring position. Good time for the hitter to lock in, put the ball in, play hard somewhere. Calling for the intentional walk and that loads up the bases and the force play is now in order. Now, Hunter Goodman digging in for the Rockies. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season, so they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. This one in the near center field. Cruz sizing this one up and makes the grab. Runner tagging from third. He’s in on the sack fly and the lead is up to five. Well, that can be a tough one with the bases loaded. You can try to do too much, but there he didn’t. He stayed within himself. if he got that run in with the sack fly. Would have been nice if the runners behind could have advanced, but they’ll take what they got. And the Pirates manager making his way to the mound now as he will make the move. Number 47 won’t go any further. And as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. Now pitching for Andrew Heene gets handed the rock out of the pen. Well, they need someone to stop the bleeding and keep the score right where it is. Seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging it. Man, there’s a sack fly to bring home another run in this inning. These hitters are just piling it on. We’re seeing some really quality at bats out of this team right now. Jordan Beck will hit next. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. Two aboard, two outs. Little bit high. One and one. Way high. It’s a big opportunity right here. But I love the way he’s slowing the game down. He’s shrinking his zone, making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit. That’s a little bit low. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. And a big swing and a miss. Freeman over at second. Moniac on first with two down. That one ripped right center field. And this one looks like trouble. One run is in. Coming home. He’ll score. Two runs are in. Gets the job done as he brings home repair a pair. I’ll tell you when you smoke the line drive into the gap like that. I mean, sure, home runs are king, but I feel like nothing makes you feel like a true professional hitter more than a boat the other way. Next for Colorado, Tyro Estrada. And first offering is fouled off. Nope. One ball, one strike. Tap foul at the plate. Runner at second. Two down. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. still able to fire over. Inning over, although plenty of damage done. So in the end, 10 come to the plate, six of them come around to score. Ninth inning coming up. It’s the Rockies 11 and the Buckos four. It’s a bit of a blowout now, which gives us a bit more freedom here in the booth. I’m not sure that’s a good thing. Do you collect baseball cards? You know, when I was a kid, I used to put them in my back tire of my bicycle so it would sound like a motorcycle. Probably ruined some good cards back then, but don’t really have much of a collection. The other day, I came across a binder that my wife had in one of the drawers, and my son’s got some baseball cards. So, we’ll be looking to see if there’s any kind of retirement income in there. text offering upstairs. So, my dad told me that he had a bunch of Mickey man rookie cards and a whole bunch of valuable cards and his mom tossed them because well, you know, what did she know? So, I made my mom keep all my baseball cards and I really don’t have any that are valuable. And that story stunk by me. Anyway, that’s off the mark. And that’s ball three. Hit in the air. Center field. Doyle makes the catch for the And there’s one away. Now batting pitcher Henry Davis. Henry Davis now at the plate. Up and in. And that’s ball one. Base is empty. One away. You’re in the top of the ninth. in the air out towards left center and there are two down up next to the pirate short stop. So they’re down to their final out. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Isaiah Kiner Falefa and a pop off right side foul territory and he’s got it. Ball game and the Rockies take this one in a blowout. Yeah, pretty tight ball game up until the eighth inning and that’s really the time where you expect things to lock down, but the offense broke out. incredible outburst and it just put this game out of reach. Final score in this one 11 to4 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shami saying so long Heat. Heat.
