Orioles vs. Cubs Game Highlights (8/2/25) | MLB Highlights

Coming up this afternoon from Wrigley, the Cubs and the Orioles. It is game two of this threeame set as we continue to honor the one and only Ryan Sandberg. Number 23 being worn by every Cub player including the starter Matthew Boyd and 23 forever everywhere. It will be the Cubs top starter. Matthew Boyd, the all-star Hoy has been brilliant at home. Very comfortable here at Wrigley Field. He’s made 10 starts. He’s 9 and0 here with a 195 RA. That is the fourth best home ERA in all of Major League Baseball. Jackson Holiday stands in and the first offering of the game. First pitch of the game, ground ball to second base. The new Cub Willie Castro retires Jackson Holiday. Jordan Westber the batter as Boyd fires. Here’s the bouncer wide of third. Glove by Shaw moving to his left and he makes a good play to throw him out. Two pitches and two outs. So the batter is Gunner Henderson on the ground. Castro backhands off balance throw pulls BCH off the base. It’ll be an infield single. So a two out man aboard. Adley Rutman the talented catcher steps in. Line drive left field. Hack coming on. Ian is there as Tommo Sigano for the first time gets ready to face the Cubs here at Wrigley Field. And he’ll go to work on Michael Bush. He tries to find his way here with a curveball slammed a deep left. It’s Cowser who makes the catch. Leaping into the Ivy. Colton Cowser. One of his best plays of the season at one of the hardest outfields to play. Literally one of the hardest walls with a brick behind the ivy. Watch him just disappear into the ivy. Oh, there he is. He’s right at home in the green stuff. A little tip of the cap by Tomoyuki Sagano. Kyle Tucker the batter. Two-2 swing and a miss off the split there. Tommo gets him. Sea Suzuki now. First pitch swinging. Hammers it out towards left center field. That one is back and it’s caught out there in left center by Carlson. Suzuki hits it well, but the park holds it. Cubs have not had a man reach base yet against Tomyuki Sagano. And the batter is Ian Hap. Hammers that one right field, curling it towards a corner. had a touchdown and bang up against the wall and Ian into second with a solid double. Here’s Willie Castro making his first appearance as a batter. He’s already made a nice play defensively. He lines one into left center field. That’s going to be a diving catch in left field by Hower. Well, the Cubs might want to challenge. They do. They thought that ball was trapped. that the umpires are coming together before a possible challenge. I think they may overrule this and call it a hit upon consultation. Let’s wait and see. Yeah, he and he just overturned it. Doug Edings, the crew chief, the third base umpire in the call. So, it’ll be a base hit. Corner lines one down the left field line. This is going to be a fair ball. Putting his hand up as Cowser. One run is going to score and it’s going to cost the Cubs a run as Castro would have come around but the ground rule stipulates that Willie Castro gets stopped at third infield in and it’s Reese Maguire one- nothing Cubs looking for more fly ball left field Cowser drifting back Castro is going to tag and here comes Willie throw to the plate is too lateer showing off a pretty strong arm here but helps get the second run of the game. Westberg routs the ball under Boyd’s glove and into center. The Orioles have their second hit and their first lead off base runner. And don’t get too big of a lead over there at first base. We have already seen Matthews Boyd’s pickoff move. Here’s the 01 throw to first and they got him pecked off. Matthew Boyd leads the league in pickoffs. Add another one to the list. And that wasn’t even a close play. Yeah, not close. And Westber, he starts fading towards second and then has to retreat. Bushy has the ball in his glove before West even starts into his dive. He’s out by a good step. Excellent pickoff move by Matthew Boy. One away. Willie Castro, the batter. Willie in his first game as a Cub already having an impact, a positive impact. My drive right field and it kicks past Jackson and that’s going to run. Let’s watch Willie run around second on his way to third. And Quinton Barry will hold him up. Have a day. Willie Castro. It’s a three base hit for Willie Castro as he smokes that curveball into right infield in. Castro at third. Horner base hit and the Cubs add on. It’s three nothing. Mo has knocked in a couple. Dylan Carlson will stand in against left-hander Matthew Boyd. Dribble up along third. Boyd up with it. Spins and throws. Got him. Oh, what a play. Oh, this ball’s chopped. I really didn’t think he had much of a chance to make this play as he goes almost all the way into, you know, to the foul line to catch this ball and plants the right foot and then on Corks a perfect throw. So, one down. Here’s the left fielder, Colton Cowser. Swag and a miss and just carved up Cowser. Jeremiah Jackson at the plate. Jackson up the middle. Knocked down by her. He can’t get to it. Couple of hard hit ground balls for Jeremiah Jackson in this series. That should go down as his second big league hit. It will. And it keeps the inning alive for Luis Vasquez. And now the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Boyd gets him with a slider. Jackson stranded at first. Matthew Boyd working on a four hit shut out as he goes to work on the top of the order. bounces that one softly right side. Castro tries to shovel with the glove and he got him. How about the defense today? Willie Castro is having himself a heck of a Cubs debut both in the field and in the batters box. Have many choices here. Goes glove to glove. But here’s a swing and a miss. Strike three. Westber chasing a high fast ball. Down he goes. And the pitch swung on and missed. Strike three. Got him with a breaking ball. Three up, three down. We go to the bottom of the sixth inning. Corbin Martin out of the bullpin. Five and dime for Tomyuki Sagano who sits on the hook today. Corbin Martin has gotten the first two guys in the inning. Two down, nobody on for Nicoer. Line drive and a base hit out into right center field for Nicoer who’s three for three. It’s a good one. Rolling. Rolling. Martin throws. Save. Fun hit. Reese Maguire. Martin made a a very nice defensive play. I didn’t think they had a chance to get Maguire, but he made it close with a very nice play. Two men on, two down. Matt Shaw, the batter. Check swing. Did he chase on the appeal to first? He did. The clinch fist from Mike Molinsky, the first base umpire. That’ll get the strike out for Corbin Martin and end the Cubs at bat here in the sixth. Seven shutout innings from Matthew Boyd. He will leave the game. It’s his game to win. Ryan Brazier, the reliever, will go to work and Cowser will take a base. So, a lead off walk. Yeah, suboptimal leadoff walk. Eighth inning with a three-run lead. Ryan’s got to recalibrate up the middle and a base hit. So, walk in a single and all of a sudden the tying run comes to the plate. Here comes Counts wants his lefty and Caleb Thebar will take over. What great work he’s done. corner has it to second for one and that’s all they get. Holiday hit it hard but the defense in the right spot leaving men at first and third with two down. Base hit right field. Westber with the knock and the Orioles are on the board. Tommy Hottie again to the mound. This is all about Gunnar Henderson with runners at first and second. Crowd starting to buzz. Felbar the kick to pitch highf fly ball center field. Well struck. PCA back back some more and it’s gone. Gunner Henderson with a threerun homer and the Orioles have taken the lead. It’s 43. Now this uprising out of nowhere. Orioles completely shut down yesterday and most of today. Caleb just off the mark here this afternoon and does it against the wrong guy. Get four runs in the top of the eighth. Now it’s time for Keegan Aken looking for his first save of the year. But Keegan Aken’s got a good change up, but he will throw it. And he does throw it and he misses with it. And the Cubs put the tying run on and the go-ahead run will come to the plate. Kyle Tucker who can win it. Swing and a miss struck him out. And Kyle Tucker is gone. The Cubs are down to their final out. And PCA is going to have a chance. Ball four. PCA has had so many moments this year offensively and defensively. Birdie at second, Suzuki at first. 4-3 Orioles. 2-2. Struck him out and that’ll do it. The Orioles finish off the Cubs as they rally late. The Gunnar Henderson home run is the difference. They come from behind. Four to3 win here at Wrigley. Tough loss for the Cubs. Yeah. Yeah. [Music]

  1. Best win of the season, let's go O's!

7-3 in the last 10, and only 7.5 out in the WC.

Major reinforcements coming in the next couple weeks, Povich, Bradish, Wells, Mountcastle, Beavers, and Basallo.

DET was 8 under .500 on August 10th last season, the O's are 9 under on August 2nd.

  2. Umm… Orioles YouTube account. Whether or not this was made by MLB why tf do we have to listen to the Cubs announcers call of Gunnar’s home run. Whose idea was that?

  3. Yo we stole one today. Take em’ anyway you can get them on the road. This is a brutal schedule right now. Os holding up so far.
Gunnar crushed that one. They won’t learn not to pitch this guy low inside or it’s parked

  4. Hate to say it but Orioles have no offensive depth with O'Hearn, Laureano, Mullins, and Urias all gone. Not to mention losing Stowers last year. Super lucky to win this game. They'll be lucky to average 3 runs a game for the rest of the year.
