In BC’s tenure, he has consistently acquired highly ranked prospects in trades (other than this years deadline returns which I hate tbh) and his drafts are usually praised as being great right after they happen. 2021’s draft was lauded as one of the greatest of all time especially after we managed to sign everybody, and now we’ll be lucky to have 2 contributors from it. All of these prospects were ranked highly, but so were Peggy and Malone, Endy, and others.

What does this mean? Does this mean that BC actually has a pretty good eye for scouting prospects, but built a piss poor development system here in Pittsburgh that fails our hitters? Or is it a reminder that guessing the outcome of prospects is just that, a guess? And that we shouldn’t get attached to them?

  1. What it really means is that the draft and trading for prospects is just a crap shoot. You never know what you are going to get, but BC keeps on going for the same thing and hoping it turns up aces. So he probably is insane.

  2. About as good as evaluating talent as any one of us is. Can I get the same paycheck?

  3. Isn’t the Yankees farm consistently one of the lower ranked ones though? So acquiring prospects between #8-27 isn’t necessarily the best crop.
