Highlights from ALL games on 8/2 (Speedway Classic, Tarik Skubal vs. Zack Wheeler, and MORE)!
Welcome to Major League Baseball’s Speedway Classic at Bristol Motor Speedway. First Major League Baseball game ever in the state of Tennessee. And rain pouring for the last couple hours, but they got the tarp off. Got the diamond dry out there and we’re going to have baseball. Boogy boogy boogy. Let’s play ball. Three consecutive 10 strikeout games for Chase Burns. Grew up in Tennessee. Two two pitch. Swinging a miss. He struck him out. Got him with a slider down and in. Two two comes home from Burns and a fast ball at 100. Strikes him out. He puts bookend KS on a one two three first. Now runners at first and second base and the batter is Austin Hayes. Rips this one through the left side and a base hit. Here comes Mlan and Austin Hayes has put the Reds on the board in the first inning. All right, now they’re un covering the tarp down the right field line and we’re going to be back at another delay. We’re going to suspend tonight’s game. Uh suspend tonight’s game. Uh we’ll be back tomorrow uh 1:00. Zack Wheeler will go back out for the seventh inning. It’s a two nothing ball game. Tigers leading it. Jav Bayas trying to make him pay and he does a torpedo out of here. Two-run home run. Four nothing Tigers in the sixth. As much of a nightmare as Willer can be. Scoo’s even more of a nightmare for hitters. That fast ball change up combo is elite. He doesn’t generally work the edges. He’s just filling up the strike zone. Jav Bayz, he knows he’s going to swing the bat on the ground. That is fair hugging the line. Here comes McKinstry. Dingler gets waved in by Joey Cora. A two run, two out triple in the eighth. Blake Snell makes his return to Tampa Bay. Takes one to right field, slicing toward the line, and that ball is out of here. Gets over the short wall in right field. Yandi Diaz welcomes Blake Snell off the injured list with a blast. Diaz swings, hits one deep to right field again and it’s gone. He’s two for two with two homers. This one a two-run shot. Junior Commonro stands in and a fly ball back into center field. That’s got some carry to it and that ball’s going to get out and a solo blast for the Rays third baseman. Astros with a two nothing lead in Boston. Romy drives one high and deep into the left field. Is it high enough? It is. Over the red line. That should be a homer. By the way, it came off. Boom. Right there. Eagle eyes right here. Got you, OP. And we’re tied. And that one is high. And it is deep. And it is gone. Red Sox erase that two nothing lead real fast. Abraham Toro 0 for one. Swinging a drive. Left field deep. She is gone. Another two-run homer. And it is 62 Red Sox. Merryill Kelly though makes his debut for the Rangers. It’s a 2-1 game. Up to Julio now. into right field and it touches down base hit Clint Garcia’s glove. This game is tied as Julio stands up at second base. Tying run right away at the plate in Rosena. Fly ball. There it goes. Ry’s done it. He has tied it up. This game’s tied. Unbelievable. Wyatt Langford, the batter, and he hits this one sharply into right. That’s a base hit. Garcia scores easily. The Rangers lead five to four. And this one is lined into right. That’s a base hit. Rangers take one in extra innings. 64. Second and third with one out for Davis Schneider to center field. It’s dropping and it’s down for a base hit. And two runs will come in to score and the Blue Jays lead two to nothing. And a base hit into right field for Bette will bring Schneider home with the third run of the inning. Blue Jays would love a little insurance leading by one here. Bottom seven and this is into left field. A base hit low around third on his way to the plate. The throw is cut and it’s a four to2 ball game. There’s Augustine Ramirez. He produces some of the craziest sounds you’ve ever heard off a baseball. And that is ripped in the air deep to left. Way out of here for Augustine. Enjoying the moment against his former organization. So here’s Paul Goldmith. Edwards coming back onto the dirt. He’s got it. There’s two away. Throw to first. Got him. Oh wow. And what a bizarre read from the former Marlin Jazz Chisum. Well, when the inning ended and Aaron Boone, you could see, walking him down the runway, he had some things to say. Ramirez has three separate RBI hits against his former organization in the air to left center. Got a chance. Come on, baby. Gone. Steve Ramirez has hit his second home run of the game in his many advance. One away now. Pete Alonzo. And Pete drives one to deep left center. Forget that. Pete Alonzo 250. Threerun bomb. Three nothing New York. Nemo hits a two hopper. Pass. Schmidt into right center field. That’ll tie the game. Brandon NMO with an RBI single and it’s four to four. And Lindor bats with the bases loaded and two out. And Lindor smacks one toward the gap in right center field. This might clear the bases. Mullins is in. Batty scores. Nimble will stop at third. Two-run double for Francisco Lindor. The Brewers with 25 hits last night already with three hits in the top of the first inning. Right where they left off in last night’s ball game. Three straight RBI hits to right field. It’s three nothing Milwaukee. My goodness, what a start to this game for the crew. There’s a high drive into right field. It is going to be up and over the wall. A home run on the first pitch of the third inning by Christian Yelich. Brandon Woodruff barely breaking a sweat. Brandon Woodruff. Wow, what a start here this afternoon. and he’s through six. He allowed just one hit and two runs. Three nothing. The Cubs with the lead over the Orioles. Base hit right field. Westber with the knock and the Orioles are on the board. Gunnar Henderson with runners at first and second. Highf fly ball center field. Well struck. PCA back some more and it’s gone. Threeun homer and the Orioles have taken the lead and PCA is going to have a chance. Struck him out and that’ll do it. The Orioles finish off the Cubs as they rally late. And the major league debut of CJ Capus to short. Only play is at first and CJ Capus in his major league debut has an RBI ground out. Walner coming up as Walner crushes to right field and deep. Back it goes. And this game is tied. And the Moose was hungry there. Jos Ramirez tying run at the plate. Crushed deep right field. Tie game. Home run. Ramirez. Tie game at four. Bo Naylor will be the batter. Ripped around field. Base hit. Here comes Jose with a go-ahead run. Bo Naylor with an RBI double. Makes it 54. With a three nothing lead. Fly ball. Center field struck pretty well. Scott back at the wall. Gone. Jackson Merrill connects on his eighth of the year and the Padres’s take a four nothing lead. Swing and a drive. A hanger and Pas destroys that one into the Western Metal Supply Building. How’s that for your first hit against the Padres’s a game tying three-run homer singled Berles walked. They’re on with two outs. The one pitch for Mason Win. A swing and a ball hit down the left field line and it is a fair ball. It goes to the wall. Herrera scores. Berles is trying to score. The relay to the plate. The slide safe. Mason Whim with two outs. And I smell the coffee brewing. Robert to third base with one out for Kyle Teal. Teal whacks a line drive. Base hit left center. Robert will trot home and it’s one- nothing Socks in the second. Tops it toward third. Charging is Baldwin who can’t make the play. If he lets that go, there’s a good chance that’s rolling foul. I think first hit of the game for the Halos. Yeah, when you can command multiple pitches, he’s made it look awful easy. He’s kept the Angels hitters off balance all night. Six and a third, eight strikeouts in complete control. By far his best outing in a White Sox uniform. Leisure trying to work a one, two, three night. One- nothing White Socks. In the air, this could do it. Robert Jr. underneath. Win number 42, surpassing the 41game win total of all of last year. Can tell Marte, you’d like to see him start getting that long ball going. There’s a drive deep to right field. It’s on his way and it’s gone. Itel Marte sends one into the bullpen. Lis base hit. It’s by Hernese lays his home. Corbin Carroll will score. Lurtis Goreel drives into finds it to second. Flanks off the glove of Catel. Purdomo got the out at second. Hit a ricocheted off the glove of Marte. Jerry was there and he dove into the bag just ahead of Butler. Super athletic plate. Corbin Carroll fly ball and this one is way back and gone. The third Diamondback home run tonight and they lead it seven to two. Here’s Leova Pagarero hit that home run in left field to the wall and it is gone. Threeun homer for Peggy. How about Skins with eight strikeouts so far? Five shutout innings. Face ball swatted deep right center field by B and it is gone. Three home run Jordan back. Here come the Rockies again. Brett Doyle making his way to the plate and a base hit to left. Stay hot. Brent Doyle. We’re all even at four. And then the one pitch and that one’s hit deep to left. It’s got a chance. Cruz and Swinsky back. It’s gone. Solo shot makes it eight to four Colorado. For more on these and other stories, keep it locked to mlb.com.
