Dodgers vs. Rays Game Highlights (8/3/25) | MLB Highlights

some breakfast and baseball. The Dodgers wrap up their series against the Tampa Bay Rays. It is the rubber game of this three-game set at Stein Briner Field. Well, towing the rubber this afternoon for the Tampa Bay Rays is going to be right-hander Joe Bole, but imperative for him to be around the strike zone. When he is, he is absolutely overwhelming. Show Otani stepping in his first at a lead off walk yesterday. We watched an entire game without seeing a single walk issued by either staff. And here we get it. The first batter of the game. 543 double play. Freddy Freeman has reached base in 18 straight games. Freddy smokes the ball to the right field gap. This ball is off the bottom of the wall. Freeman standing up at second with a two out double. And the Dodgers here with the two out opportunity. High in the air to left. Ranging back on it is Mangum. back to the base of the wall and he makes the catch. Boy, that thing carried. Dodgers are turned away here in the first. And now the race come up against Yamamoto. Yoshino Yamamoto 22nd start coming off a victory in Cincy. Oh, by the way, we are on the road and his road numbers the best in the National League. 1.78 erra with those six wins. And there’s a base hit pulled just out of the reach of the diving Tommy Edmond at second base. Sharply hit by Brandon Laauo. Here’s Junior Camro. And then he beats him with a heater. A strike out on three pitches. Two gone. Slap to Muki at short. He’ll step on second all by himself to get the final out of a scoreless first inning for Yoshobu Yamamoto. Here’s left hand Benny Hunter Paduca, the former battery mate of Yamamoto. There’s a line drive and a base hit in to right. Paduca picking up his first hit. It comes with one out here in the second inning against Yamamoto. Little tap or roller right side. Edmond to second one. first safe there. So forced out at second is Fiducia. Four to six and Mangum reaches. Two men out and Johnny Duca the center fielder and he struck him out looking with a cutter on the inner half. No runs, one hit, one left, no dodger error as we go to the third in Tampa. He runs it all the way out as he did with Otani the first time around. Three and two again here in the third inning and this time he gets it. Slider. Slider backs up on him a little bit and Otani just fooled. You can see him kind of reaching flatfooted. Who went out for the Dodgers here in the third and Wookie Betses up driving a line to left center coming in. Mangum long run dives and makes the catch and the Dodgers go down in order in the third. We’re still scoreless going bottom three. That’s just the way things are going. Yamamoto standing squared up on the mound of the plate. Camo right-handed batter 0 for one struck out. Commonro jumps on the first pitch of the inning from Yamamoto. A leadoff knock for the Ray’s third baseman. Way to get to Yamamoto. He has been just chewing up, eating up all hitters in his face last couple games. And Commonro finds a fast ball. Actually a great pitch. Second baseman Hassan Kim 0 for one. Grounded to second in the second. Oh, called strike three. Thank you very much. Feducia picked up his first hit in a raised uniform in the second inning. That’s just mean. Five strikeouts for Yamamoto. We’re through four full. Well, we have a pitcher duel developing here as we are scoreless as we head to the top of the fifth inning at Steinbrerfield. One up, one down. Ground ball off the bag and into center field. Some batted ball luck for Tommy Edmund. Uh Tommy made the turn and Chris Woodward is calling for the athletic training staff. Oh man, Tommy Iben has been grinding and battling all year long seemingly through injury. Made a wide turn around first. Thought about going to second as that ball dribbled into shallow center field and now he is going to limp off. He’s coming out of the game. The Dodgers have now officially announced that he has exited the game with a right ankle sprain. So Miguel Rojos will come off the bench and take Edmond’s place. Rojos on second. Otani at the plate. Walking a strikeout today. They’re putting them on. Bole fell behind 20 and Kevin Cash put up four fingers. Okay, so you’ve been waiting for a spark for Mookie Betts. Could this be it? And say we’re not going to let this guy beat us. And in this situation, you got this pitcher duel. Mookie hits a fly ball left center field. Mangum is on the run and so is Duca who makes the catch. A little crisscross out there, but they got the job done. Bottom of the fifth inning. Rays will send Jake Mangum to lead off here. He’ll tap her to first and safe the call. How about that on Mangum? You know who wasn’t hustling was Yamamoto. I think Yamamoto at first thought Freeman was going to take this honest. Freeman goes to field it like, “Hey, I’m waiting for you.” And Yamamoto never was running hard. Fielder’s choice going six to four. Duca is aboard. One out, one on and up comes Wall. Bottom of the fifth. You know, two counts become a bigger deal. Does Duca try to run here on Yamamoto? Florida State product drops down a bunt to the left side. Yamamoto’s throw is low. Squeaks through or underneath the glove of Freddy Freeman. An extra base for Duca. Heading to third is Duca. And the Rays have run it to first and third. And so there hasn’t been a ball that’s left the infield this inning. Well, and he’s going to have a word with Yamamoto. See if he’s okay after fielding the ball the way that he did. Well, very seldom do we see Freddy Freeman not make a catch and that appeared to be a catchable ball. Low yes, but it hit off the the bottom of the glove and Freeman is going to be charged with an error. Rays at the corners with one down in the fifth and the top of the order do up. Brandon Laauo one for two today. Yamamoto will try again to get Brandon Laauo and he does with the splitter. Gets out of the jam in the fifth. Well, Joe Bole 71 pitches through five innings. very efficient, but his afternoon has come to an end. Mason Engler, the new Rays pitcher. Another opportunity of his Dodger ball club. They’re 0 for three with runners in scoring position so far. See if they can get Freeman home here. PZ coming up. Typically, he’s done well with runners in scoring position. He’s in the top 10 in the National League in average with runners in scoring position. 337. Swung on. Ripped into left field. A base hit. Freeman is going to be waved around. They’re going to challenge the arm of the left fielder. Here comes the relay. The throw slide safe at the plate. Freddy scores and the Dodgers on the board. It’s one- nothing. A great job by Dino Eel, the third base coach. 88 pitches and that’s the last one for Yoshino Yamamoto. It’s for Yoshino Yamamoto. Five hits, no walks, sixks. He is on the hook for Hassan Kim on first base right now. 88 pitches. Now he’s going to hope Alex Vessia can strand the tying runner here in the bottom of the six. Locked up again left side. Freeland toward the wall. Makes the catch as he falls into the net. And the inning is over. No runs. One hit, one left. We go to the seventh in Tampa. The score, the Dodgers one raise nothing. First and second, one out for Freddy Freeman. Both runners go. Fuchia throws to second. Off the mark and Muki held the bag. The double steel executed to perfection. Rays draw the infield in now. Ground ball base hit right field. Otani steps home. The Dodgers double their lead on another riby from Freddy. Having himself a day Baker sees some action here in the eighth inning. He becomes pitcher number three for the Rays. Swinging the ball line toward left center field over Duca. Dives head long and makes the catch on the back hand. That’s the second terrific play by a Rays outfielder today. Mangum Griven Jacks on the mound here making his Tampa Bay Rays debut after being acquired at the trade deadline for Taj Bradley joining this race squad. He is so pumped up. Jacks payoff pitch. K is running. Ground ball underneath the diving Kim. So K will go to third. Otani will hustle to second. Dodgers got something cooking here in the ninth. Two in scoring position for rookie bats. Now the 10th pitch. in the air left center field. Duca runs over. He will make the catch, but that is enough to get the job done and the Dodgers lead three to nothing. Otani also tagged on the play. So he’s on third for Freddy Freeman. And he swings it. Listen in the air well to left towards the corner giving Chase Mangum back near the wall up against it and makes the catch. Might have taken a home run away up against the Jville side. Jake Mangum who will get a chance to hit in the bottom of the ninth. keep the Rays at least in the neighborhood. The aftermath of Mangum climbing that wall to make that catch. Three nothing is the lead for Blake Trinan. One more out to go. Taylor Walls top of the order is on deck. The payoff pitch high ball four and the bases are loaded. The tying run is at first and the winning run coming to the plate and Yandi Dia. And here comes Dave Roberts trying goes two/3 of an inning. allowed one hit, walk two, struck out two. And Kasparius with one out to get to give the Dodgers a win here. And Diaz up. He’s 0 for four today. And swinging a ground ball to short. Luke’s got it. He’ll throw on to first base. And the ball game is over. You can exhale as the Dodgers win this one. Shutting out the Rays today three to nothing. They win the game. They win the series and make it a winning road trip.
