MLB LIVE🔴 Pittsburgh Pirates vs Colorado Rockies – Aug 3, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

So, just about set now. Today’s starter for Colorado, Kyle Freeland. And Chris, he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough. Well, he’s been giving up a lot of hard contact this season. I mean, coming in, guys are hitting comfortably in the high 200s. So many times there’s some bad luck, but then also there’s just a little miss here or a little miss there that changes the outcome of the at bat. We’ll see if he can be consistent and make adjustments quickly in this one. Swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. So a man on base to start the inning. Oh, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. He didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. Here’s McCutchen. That one outside. And that’s ball one. And that’s in there at the knees. Runner on the go. Fouled off. He was late. And it’s even up. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. line drive, base hit, throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. Brian Reynolds here. Pitch misses outside and that is ball one kick. Sends that pitch in for a strike and a count one and one. First and second here, no outs. Swinging a drive deep right field. Carrying well. Gone. His 11th of the year. And that’s how they take the lead. It’s 3 nothing. That fast ball was out of the zone and he still drove it out. Those swings leave pitchers scratching their heads. At this level, you got to be good. Sometimes you got to be a little lucky. That was a pretty nasty pitch. Sinker on the outside corner, but he did a great job of covering it and he hit the ball out of the park. Here’s O’Neal Cruz. There’s the strike. Can be tough to bounce back after a big home run, but nobody on, nobody out. You just have to treat it as a fresh inning. So O’Neal Cruz is named after Paul O’Neal. That was his father’s idol in baseball. So he named his son O’Neal. In 2022, they finally met each other when the Pirates played the Yankees in New York. And I’m sure that was a moment that O’Neal Cruz will never forget. That’s off the inside corner and count one and two. And there’s a ball. Two balls, two strikes on the ground to third. Fair ball. Man at first, nobody out. So, next to the plate for Pittsburgh, Nick Gonzalez. And there’s the strike and that one missing inside. A sharp slider. This is one of those situations the infielders have to pre-plan and understand that the ball’s got to be hit extremely hard right at them if they’re going to have a chance to go for a double play. Cruz aboard here at first with nobody out. Strike two on the ground is short. Could be two. fired to second and they turn the double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Jack Sinski, the next pirate to hit. And that’s in there for a strike. Little slider that finds Lamar. Two out. Space is empty. Swinging a ground ball. Throw sails over his head at first and it’s going to wind up out of play. Just looked like he pushed that throw. Not a long distance. So something definitely broke down mechanically. Sometimes the shorter throws can be harder to make. You don’t see many high throws from second baseman over the first because they usually don’t have to put much on it. So digging in Henry Davis. That’s too long. Ball one. Well, they’re really running up the pitch count in this first inning. Lots of confidence from this team that is perhaps the hottest in baseball right now. Two outs and one in scoring position. headed towards the corner and that’s a fair ball. Runner from second crosses the plate and it’s an RBI single and it’s four nothing. Two outs, runner at first. Leover Pagarero the next Pirate to hit on the ground and it goes just foul. Well, a really rough inning out there on the mound and uh this is one of those where you learn a lot about a guy’s toughness and his ability to turn the page and keep pressing forward. And now the count is even. There are lots of pitches thrown in this first inning. It’s kind of that nightmare scenario for starting pitching. But you know what? It’s still early enough. He can settle in. He can get some length if he just cleans up his mechanics a little bit. A little out front there as he swings through it. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Liner and this could be trouble. Lead runner touches second. Headed for third. Coming home. He will score. Picks himself up an RBI. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. He didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Here’s Bud Black towards the mound. And we’re going to see a pitching change here. Kyle Freeland gives way. And this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. New pitcher in the game for the Rockies, Bradley Bllelock. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big erra. So, this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. Here is Isaiah Ker Falefa. That one fouled off. delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. fouls that off to the left and will do it again. Ru at second. Two down. Got it. That’ll end the inning after a lot of scoring. But nine batters hit in the inning. Five come around to score. On to the bottom of the first. It’s the Pirates five and the Rockies coming up. back here at Korsfield and today on the hill, Mike Burroughs. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Tyler Freeman leading things off and takes a strike. Pitches in for a strike. 0 and two now. He doesn’t seem to like the pitch up. Hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. That one 95 to finish him off. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. He got three straight fast balls. Looking in the 02 count just to pour it back. Ezekiel Tovar batting with one down. Takes a strike. that one in 95 missed up top. One and one. Just off the inside edge. That’s off the mark. And the count is three and one. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. Hard on the ground to first. Horowitz steps on the bag. Two up, two down. Here’s Bud Black’s lineup for the Colorado Rockies. They do a lot of things well in this offense, Singy. They control the strike zone. They make pitchers work hard for outs. And as a result, one of the better OBP teams in the league. Well, what I love about it is it’s an organizational philosophy. Whether you go to instructional league, whether you go to spring training, you see these players even during batting practice when it doesn’t matter. They’re practicing that type of approach, Boo. And when you have that filtering through the organization, even when you call off a player, they step right in and continue with the pattern that they have established at this level, which ultimately leads to a lot of success. And there’s a foul ball. You know, you translate on base percentage, it’s basically this. Teams that have a high on base percentage, they don’t make outs at a very high rate. As my buddy Joe Sheen says, OBP is life. Fights that one away. Still one and two. That one missed. Two strikes. Next offering miss is down and away. fouled off again and it remains three and two. I want to start that load a little bit sooner because of the good low. That one rift right center field head and one hops the wall. Now he’ll turn for second and he starts his afternoon off right with a double. Man, that was a pretty good battle to play and I’ll tell you, feels pretty good as a hitter when you grind out a hit like that. Nice job going the opposite way with it, letting the ball travel and not allowing the barrel to hook around the ball. It’s so frustrating when you see a good pitch and your hands roll over. It was on the outside part of the plate and he approached it perfectly. Could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game. And now here is Jordan Beck. Now one strike just missed. Two-1 pitch is in there and the count is even man at second. Swing and a miss and he struck him out. That’s the third out. Inning over the Rockies strand one. It’s five nothing. Second inning set to go. And now the Pirates leadoff man, Spencer Horowitz. Horwitz handling the duties at first. 27 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season. And that skips in the dirt. That’s down and in. Two one. Yeah, that’s outside and the count is three and one. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Looked like a questionable call in that spot. He even seemed a little surprised it went his way at the plate, but as a hitter, you’ll take that all day. Here’s Cut to the dish. Singled scored his first time. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play right through there for a strike. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Only chewed out and ball one. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, you’ll look for something down in the zone, but not too far. Don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. Went back to the fast ball and it was effective. No, just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there. And I don’t think he was taking it thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. Reynolds the next to hit takes outside. One. Not even close there. And it’s 2 and 0. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation ahead 20. He’s put himself in a really good spot in the air to left down the line. Beck on the move puts it away for the out and there are two outs. Now batting the centerielder O’Neal Cruz. O’Neal Cruz digs in now. One for one with a single so far. Rockies upstairs. Horowitz the runner at first with two gone. Let’s go. Fast for a strike on the ground of first. And that’s just foul. Swung on. Belted. That one’s deep. And that’s a home run into the upper deck. He sends it into the second deck. His 18th home run of the season. And they add to the lead. It’s 7 nothing. Already playing with the lead. And now they’re celebrating a home run. They’re having a great time out there. That’s as big as it gets right there. You take advantage of a mistake. That is an ultimate. Here it is. Watch it. I’m gonna jog around the bases. Two outs, nobody on. And now it’s going to be Nick Gonzalez. That one drifts inside. Base is empty. Two away, but two runs are in here at the top of the second. Check swing called strike. One and one. Tap softly third base side. A swinging bunt and that will end the inning. Another look at this two-run homer for Pittsburgh. It’s now 7 nothing. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. We head to the bottom of the second. So in now for Colorado warming Bernabel Burroughs back to work. Clearly down in this ball game and you can’t look at the deficit and try to get it all back in one swing. It’s got to come one at bat at a time and even shrink it down smaller pitch to pitch. Make that guy on the mound work to get you out. A little bit high maybe. Ball one. James Kingsley, our played umpire, consistent as you mentioned and maybe a little generous on the edges. Late that time, but it’s strike two. Good pitch down around the knees. You want to be there all game in a park like this. A popup sometimes will carry out. Down and in. Moved his feet. Got him looking. That K is his third of the game. Tyrone Estrada to the plate. Definitely scuffling at the dish lately. Barely hitting over the Mendoza line this month. On the ground to the left and foul ball. Pirates. And now it’s even up. Just missed. One out. Base is empty. Tulo and it’s ball three. Ground ball left side. Connor Falea throws to first in time and Estrada is out. Two outs. Space is empty. Now here is Brenton Doyle. And that one is in for a strike at 95. It’s 0 and one. On its way to the corner and that’s a foul ball. That misses. Now one and two. 02 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. Lifted in the air left field pretty well struck. Cruz sizing this one up and makes the play and that’s out number three. And we’re back onto the third inning. Now it’s going to be Jack Sinski. And the first pitch misses for ball one. You know, these Pirates really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see them go to work. Looking at the numbers, they’ve got four hits when they’re behind in the count. That’s it. Swing and this one’s blasted. It’s got a chance. Makes the catch up against the wall. And if you’re a manager or a hitting coach, you love to see your team really fighting for every at bat, every pitch. It tells you a lot about how they showed up to the ballpark today. Henry Davis, the next pirate to him, one for one with a single and a run scored so far. Laser could be trouble. Makes the turn and heads for second in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. Oh, no waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. First pitch fast ball in a great spot to do some damage and he squared it up nicely. Leover Pagarero the next to hit. He doubled home a run at his first AB. And a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. Runner at second here. One gone. in the dirt but kept close. Get out of here. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. Let’s go. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. One out and a runner at second. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt. Nola up with it to first. And there’s two gone following the strike out. No advance. Good job behind the dish. Well, classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out. That fast ball on the pitch before was up. It was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder, but then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and you can’t make contact. Isaiah Connor Fa up to the plate. Yeah, there’s the strike. Here’s your one fought off foul. That one inside. Look out. Davis on it second with two down. And that one’s a little bit low. And it’s two and two. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Foul ball. Another 22 upcoming. That one down the line and it goes just fouled. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Foul. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. Pirates leave one, but they’re still in control. It’s 7 nothing. Set for the bottom of the third. Here’s Orlando Arcia. Yeah, this one in the air center field. Cruz under it makes the catch and there’s one gone. It’ll bring up the catcher Austin Nola. Ball one. No strikes. Ball. That’s it. And another ball. And that one is in for a strike. Swinging at a highf fly ball. Well struck way back there and it’s gone. His first homer of the year. It’s 71. That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched. Taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark. You want to bottle that type of approach. So, the Rockies lineup turns over. Here’s Tyler Freeman to hit. Struck out looking in the bottom of the first. And ball one to the right fielder. Highfly ball shallow right field. Reynolds makes the grab for the second out. Two down, base is empty. Ezekiel Tobar getting ready to hit at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Fast ball for a strike at 95. Two down, base is empty, but one run across here in the last half of the third. Fast ball and he gets out of the way. Well, you’ve got to establish the inside part of the plate early. And that sends a message not just to this hitter, but to the rest of the lineup as well. line drive and that’ll get down for a base hit and that keeps the inning going. Next for Colorado, Hunter Goodman doubled in his first AB all around. I think if you asked anyone in this organization who’s the best hitter in the lineup, they would say him. Way high. Squirts away a little bit. Ruer takes off. Pitch in for a strike. Throw to second out there. And that ends the inning. But a solo home run will at least get this closer to respectability. It’s now 71. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Onto the fourth and the batter now, Spencer Horowitz. First pitch misses. Next offering is fouled back. And that one a little bit high. This one ripped but fouled to the right. Next offering is down low. Here’s a swing and a line drive. And that’s a base hit into right field. Had a good start to the inning. And now it’s Andrew McCutchen. Singled and scored back in the first. He’s one for two. And that one fouled off. Turn the pitch to McCutchen. Foul ball still 0 and two. And that just misses. That’s a ball. Well, he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here, too. Two. He’s already seen the curve ball a couple of times in this at bat. So, might have it timed up and ready for it. Now, this is in the air down the line. And that drops foul. Grounded to third. Could be two. Fires to second for one. And it’s a double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays. Look simple. Brian Reynolds, the next pirate to hit. He’s already homerred in this game. Pitch misses. And that’s ball one. Fast ball for a strike. One and one. Hard hit right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Nothing doing here for Pittsburgh and they’re on top seven to one. Bottom of the fourth now. Here is Hunter Goodman. Strike one. In the dirt and the count is one and one. Check swing. You went too far and it’s a strike. One ball, two strikes. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. And that’s ruled a swing. It’s a strike out. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Jordan Beck. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. Yeah. Big swing and a miss. Oh, one’s the count. Barely got him for the out. Close play. Two outs. Space is empty. Warming Bernabel digging in for the Rockies. Struck out looking. His first time. Fast ball is outside. I can’t play around with him here. It’s a six-run lead at this point. Got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot. That missed by a lot. And the count is two and0. Right through there for a strike. and down on strikes. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Rockies are down quietly. They’re down seven to one. Now, new pitcher on now, Jake Bird. And with the big deficit on the scoreboard, he almost has to just put that out of his mind. Every outing matters for relievers in their numbers, but I think it’s tough to get up for this type of appearance the same way you would for one in a close game. O’Neal Cruz now at the plate. He’s already homered here in this one. Pitch misses there. One and0. Well, here’s a deal not everyone remembers. Cruz was actually signed by the Dodgers in 2015, but Los Angeles dealt him to Pittsburgh in 2017 for Tony Watson. That’s a rare trade the Dodgers just might regret. Over to first, one up, one down. Nick Gonzalez. Nick Gonzalez digs in now. Both for two in this one. bird in his third season. He features a sinker, a slider, a slur, and occasionally uses a cutter. Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the fifth. On the ground out to short handles, throws the first and the first two set down in the top of the pit. Boo, we talked about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher’s hand. the way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. Two down, base is empty. Up next for the Pirates, Jack Sinski. Little bit low. And that’s ball one. And another ball. And that one clips the corner. Nope. Three balls, one strike. In there at the knees and the count’s full. Three balls, two strikes. on the ground to short. Tovar slings to first and the Pirates go one, two, three. No runs, no hits, no errors. Last half of the fifth coming up, it’s the Pirates seven and the Rockies won. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Shami with my buddy Chris Singleton. It’s set to get us started. Bottom five, Tyrone Estrada. Burrows back to work. That’s in there. Strike one. Activity in the bullpen. Johan Ramirez loosening up in case he’s called upon by Derek Shelton. Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. And that’s outside. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. just tried to overthrow that pitch. Rolled over to third and Estrada is out. Up next for the Rockies. Next to hit for the Rockies, Brentton Doyle flyed to center his first time. And that’s in for a strike. Boo. Over 80% of his first pitches are strikes. You’re doing that, you could have a really good day out there on the mound. And it’s fouled away. The Pirates up big in this one. Last half of inning number five. Hit in the air out to center field. Cruz makes the grab and there’s two gone. Batting. Two out. Space is empty. Now Orlando Arcia 0 for one with a fly out to center. That misses and that is ball one. Oh, he’s got to be pretty proud of this outing so far. Sometimes guys cower coming into a ballpark like this, but he has attacked hitters. Pitching on the road like this is very impressive. This has been a treat to watch. Reynolds trying to get there. And that ends the inning. Top of the sixth inning. And now the catcher comes up to him. Henry Davis. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Stirring in the Colorado bullpen. Number 55 getting ready to come on for Bud Black. Shavey, a hardthrowing right-hander up as well. on the ground and that’s just foul. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. All sliders so far in this at bat to get ahead in the count and clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the box. Got him swinging. Definitely made him chase a little bit out of the zone right there. I don’t think that’s a strike if he takes it. Pretty textbook pitching. Get ahead in the count. Get the guy in the box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn’t have much of a chance to do any damage. Aggerro stands in now, looks at that one inside. Right through there for a strike. Next pitch is downstairs. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. Strike three and that’s two in a row. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Isaiah Ker Falefa will hit next, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. That misses the zone. Ball one. Two down, nobody on. And we’re the top half of the sixth. and a base hit. Spencer Horowitz, the next pirate to hit. There’s the strike. in the air left field. Nabs it and that is that. So one hit is all they get. 91 and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the sixth. It’s the Pirates seven and the Rockies won. Back here in Denver, bottom of the six and now it’s Austin Nola. Nola, Aaron’s older brother was a short stop at LSU and a guy who’s turned into a good big league catcher. Activity in Pittsburgh’s bullpen. Andrew Heeney loosening up in case he’s called upon by Derek Shelton. Ferguson also getting ready. Yan. And that one just missed off the outside edge. Nope. That’s off the plate. Ball two. Next offering is in for a strike. swings through that one. It’s a strike out. I think he might have gotten away with one right there. That was a very hitable pitch right over the heart of the plate. And I know that batter is kicking himself right now. Would like to get that pitch again. Just pulled the string on it and the deception gets him the K. Freeman up for the third time here. Watches that one miss. ripped on a line. Reynolds makes the play. Two down. So in now for Colorado. Ezekiel Tovar. One for two. Swing and a miss as he was out front. Well, this manager knows that his players are just trying to do too much. Everybody needs to just take a deep breath, relax, and let it naturally happen. Upstairs and the count even one and one. Two down to right side. Hard hit. Horowitz takes it himself. It’s a one, two, three inning for the Rockies. Number 55 on a pitch out of the pen here. And he’s had a struggle so far this year. As you can see, the inflated erra looking to bring that down a little bit right here. Here’s Andrew McCutchen to hit. One for three. And fires in a fast ball at 95. The count. swings through that one for strike two. Oh, that’s that slurp right there. He threw it extremely well. And talk about just a ton of break. So tough to get that barrel to pitch misses there. It’s a ball in two strikes. One ball, two strikes. The count swing and a ball ripped right field. That one back and that one is gone. his second homer of this series and they tack one on the board. It’s 8-1. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. So impressive how he was able to go down and get this fast, but yet get it up in the air. Hit it far enough to get out of this ballpark. Brian Reynolds, the next pirate to hit. And that one is downstairs. And it’s one and0. Heart of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. Swanging a ball drilled center field. Doyle sizes this one up. He’s got it. And there’s one down. Now, next to bat will be the Pittsburgh cleanup hitter O’Neal Cruz. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. One out, base is empty and a run in here in the top half of inning number seven. The change up missing. Ball one. ripped but a curls foul. One down. Base is empty. Bows it off. Still one and two. outside with a breaking ball. Hard ground ball base knock. So, a man aboard now with one away. Here’s the second baseman, Nick Gonzalez. 0 for three with three ground outs. Slice to right. Two away now. Jack Sinski the next Pirate to hit. 0 for three in this one. That one not close. One and0. Swag a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. The one-1 is fouled off. Cruz off of first with two away. hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. One in the inning for the Pirates on this solo homer. Still a lopsided affair at 81 now. Major League Baseball is on the show. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh, Caleb Ferguson. He’s pitching on two days rest. And now the DH Hunter Goodman. Hunter Goodman. Fast ball for a strike at 95. 0 and one. inside at one and one. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. No need to offer that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch. Ground ball to the right side. The flip to the pitcher covering. They get him, but it was pretty close. Jordan Beck getting ready to hit. Just missed. counts one and0. The Pirates up big in this one here. The bottom of the seventh. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. That one the other way. Gonzalez. Two up, two down. Warming. Warming Bernabel digging in for the Rockies. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Next pitch misses inside. And that’s ball two. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter count at 2 and 0. Pitch misses. Three balls in a strike. Next offering is fouled back. Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field and he makes the catch and that’ll do it. This one isn’t exactly close. Chris, let’s go off script for a moment. I’m game. Were we on script? Never. All right, Singi, we’ve been in all the press boxes. You got best press box food. Uh, I’d say press box food because of the ice cream. We have Philadelphia. Got a shout out to our guy Frank. Yes. Uh New York for me is pretty good. Yankees. Yeah. Solid. Yeah. Swing in a bouncer out to short. Tovar tosses across to first and a quick out. Number one at the plate for Pittsburgh. Lever Pagarero. And that one missing low 10. And that’s way high. Ball two. Two balls. No strikes. And another ball and he walked him on four pitches. Trying to work his way back into the count right there, but so much for that. Pretty good pitch, but just doesn’t get the call on 3 0. Yeah, the batter now Isaiah Ker Falefa. There’s the strike. One’s the count and that is downstairs. One and one. One strike. Aggerro over at first with one away. Hit in the air right field. Freeman pulls that one down. That’s out number two. And now the first baseman, Spencer Horitz. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. That one drilled left field. He’s there. He’s got it. And that’ll do it. So, one left for Pittsburgh and it remains an 8 to1 game. Back here at Korsfield onto the bottom of the eighth. So in now for Colorado Tyrone Estrada. Ferguson back to work in for a strike. Go and one. Ferguson in his seventh season, 28 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. 02 is the count. Good job to fight that one off. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Just misses the mark outside the zone. And that’s off the inside edge. Two balls, two strikes. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Oh, he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss. He’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit. Try to move it around. Create just a little bit of illusion at the end. Got him. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Absolutely dotted the edge of the zone right there. That was a tough battle, man. So to make a really quality pitch and just catch him looking like that, it’s got to feel good out there on the mound. That was a fun at bat to watch. Next for Colorado, Brenton Doyle and first offering is fouled off. Yeah, that’s a little bit high. Base is empty, one away here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Next one is off the plate. Two and two. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mound, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. and a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. Two down, base is empty. Next to hit for the Rockies, Orlando Arcia that catches the top part of the zone and it’s 0 and one. and a foul ball. Two outs. Line drive. He’s got it. And that’ll end the inning. One, two, three. Go the Rockies. It’s still an 81 ball game. Righty reliever out of the pen, Anel Shvi. He pitched yesterday and we’ll see him once again. Now the number two hitter, Andrew McCutchen. And that drops in for a strike. And one. Next offering is downstairs. I got one ball, one strike. That one missing inside and that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Swinging a ground ball onto first now. One gone in the ninth. So, next to the plate for Pittsburgh, Brian Reynolds. Right through there for a strike. The Rockies have some action in the pen. Victor Vodnik getting ready to come on for Bud Black. The Pirates up big in this one here in the top of the ninth. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. That one misses. Now one and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And now the center fielder O’Neal Cruz. O’Neal Cruz. And that misses ball one. And that’s in there at the knees. So now one and two, one ball, two strikes. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Two down. Nobody on. Whoa. That’s down. Recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. And the two and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. And it’s through for a hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. and his hot hitting continues. They kept him in the yard that time, but all he’s doing now is passing the baton and everything seems to get started around this guy. Up next for the Pirates, Nick Gonzalez. And there’s a ball. Cruz off of first with two away. grounds one to short. Tovar, they take the force out and the inning is over. back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Andrew Heeney. And you know, bullpin guys can struggle sometimes when they’re called upon with big leads because it just doesn’t have the same intensity as a tight game. So, we’ll see how sharp he is. Your mental toughness matters in situations like this as well. Austin Nola digging in for the Rockies. Swinging a foul straight back. Strike two. No balls. Two strikes. Fights it off. He’ll see another inside. Almost got him. And the pitch to Nola. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. sets him down looking. Fast ball at the letters, frozen for strike three. No, that’s not the best two strike fast ball I’ve seen, but certainly got away with the location there. You know, sometimes as a hitter when you’re down in the count, you’re so focused on a pitcher painting the black and you just get a little bit locked up on something down the hard of the plate, not expecting it and it just kind of freezes you. Freeman in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. Next offering is in for a strike. The Rockies with a lot of ground to make up here in the last half of inning number nine. misses. Three and two now. Goes down swinging for the strikeout. Rockies down to their final out. Chance to strike out the side. Now, you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss, whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves, knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. Toar in the box now. No balls in a strike. Two down, nobody on. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. There’s the strike. Haney is just one strike away and he’ll do it again. The shorts stop takes the ball. popped up to the left into foul ground and he’s got it. Ball game and the Pirates take this one in a blowout. Well, with this sixth win in a row, all of a sudden, you start to look around up and down a lineup to your left, to your right as a player, and you say, “You know what? We’re good.” Uh we may have had some tough times earlier on, but this is a good team and you start to expect this kind of play out of yourselves. We’ll see if this translates into a longer winning streak than it is right now. And this one finishes with a final of 8 to one. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
