Storm Duck meets with the media | Miami Dolphins
So, what has been your approach uh to going to this big year two with a huge opportunity at quarterback on this team? Yeah, I mean really just to be consistent, stay working. I think that’s the main thing right there. Just coming out every day uh just trying to be the same person, you know, same person that makes more plays. So, that’s that’s the main thing right there. What it feel like to wear the orange jersey? No, it felt good. It felt good. You know, it’s a it’s an honor to be in that jersey to uh you know, coach, you know, chooses a player to be in that jersey. So, you know, it’s a great honor. Um, it just shows me, you know, just to keep going, keep pushing, and u, you know, again, stay consistent. We’ve heard a lot about reroutes in this training camp, and we can waddle about how you challenge those guys. I’m curious kind of two headed question here. How they challenge you in that skill set and how that skill set of yours fits within this defense. Yeah. Um, I’d say with those guys, I mean, they’re quick. Uh, it’s not too many not too many guys that you’ll see, you know, that, you know, that fast or that quick um in the league. So, um, for all the DBs like like all the corners that we have in the group in the room, uh, it’s a big big thing for us to, you know, get reroutes and working with those guys. I mean, I think that just helps us out a lot more compared to, you know, the guys we’ll be going against. And, um, to my skill set, you know, I like getting hands on the receiver, um, being physical, trying to mess up, you know, reroutes and timing and stuff like that. So say that Storm, we asked Bonner this yesterday, but when you sat down with coach Arujo, coach Weaver at the end of last season or even before OTAAS, what specific skill did they want you to work on and improve? I think it was just uh just learning, you know, learning it more. Just learning, you know, learning how um you know, schemes, tendencies, like the overall like the whole playbook, you know, different different positions and um really just seeing the game more. I think that’s what it is. Instead of just being locked in on one spot, seeing how things happen, how things, you know, turn to be. Storm, we heard from Mike today that Tyreek and Jaylen have kind of taken an interest in in you and we saw it even on uh I think social media yesterday, Tyreek talking to you after a rep. What does that kind of interest from the team’s receivers mean to you? What does that do for your confidence, your development? Yeah, it means a lot. uh you know seeing those guys even before I before getting here you know seeing them play knowing what they’ve done knowing what they you know going to do uh means a lot. So it just shows me just to you know keep going you know stay like again staying consistent and you know just being with those guys challenging them while they’re challenging me. So at the end of the day like we’re all getting better. Storm, what have you seen so far out of Jack Jones and Mike in practice? Yeah, they playmakers. Uh they both have a knack for the ball getting to the ball, getting the ball out. Uh they’re both physical like been around the game a good bit. So those guys I mean those guys are talented and they can play for sure. Storm, I could be wrong, but you look bigger up front. Uh were you at the same weight as you were as last year? What did you do in the offse? Yeah. Uh I just cut down cut down on uh like like body fat and like gain muscle mass. So like lean mass. So I’m I’m around around the same weight but just more muscle mass, less body fat. What difference is that making you for your game? You think I feel just like moving around better. Um, you know, obviously if you have more fat mass, you’ll probably move move a bit slower, uh, lean body mass, you know, faster, twitchier, quicker, uh, stronger. So, when when with Kendall no longer here and Jill no longer here, did you come into camp thinking one of those corner starting spots at cornerback is mine? Yeah, I mean I came in really just same approach as last year just to keep getting better like whatever you know you know happens then will happen then. But I’m I’m more so focused on the day uh more than anything the process throughout the day then you know once that time comes you know just opportunities there you know just playing and you know being who I am. You got a lot of run down the stretch last season. How much did you kind of use that tape this offseason to study your game and make improvements? Yeah. Uh so the end of last year um just just seeing what I what I can improve on uh as far as you know being you know closer to routes uh finishing through the routes and then again uh like the concepts learning the concepts and stuff like that just being quicker to react on things. So um it helped me out a lot just knowing all right this these are the guys I went up against um seeing seeing what they do um you know if we play them again you know knowing a little bit more then as you know as you get more film seeing what receivers do seeing the tendencies things of that nature. What was your reaction to learning you don’t have Kater this season who was set to be a key piece in the secondary? Yeah, it was tough. It was tough cuz I mean uh Kater is a you know great guy you know one one of my friends too. So seeing him go down and seeing how hard you know like he he works seeing how hard he was working like I I hurt everybody. I mean everybody loves him in the building and um yeah it it was tough for us. It was tough for us but I mean I know he’s going to you know attack rehab hard get all that done and be back. question. You told me in the past you’re a reader. Are you reading any books right now? Right now I currently haven’t been, but uh I think the last one, the way of the superior man was the last one I read, but uh that was the last. Yeah, that’s a good one. There are a couple older guys you have in the room who can be leaders certainly Minka, Mike Hilton. Has Hilton I know he’s just learning the system, but is the older guy in the room, has he done something, you know, as far as a mentorship yet or leadership role, a quarterback role? Yeah. So, if he has like any advice or something like that during film, he’ll be quick to, you know, say what he thinks about it. Also, you know, coach Roujo will give the coaching point, then know if you know, Mike has something else that he can add to it. Then, you know, really everybody feeds in off off of those two and um like Mink Mink as well, like he’ll ask the questions that some of us won’t even like, you know, think about um because he’s, you know, been in different schemes, been in different defenses and stuff like that. So, um like again, Mike, he’s been really helpful to everybody. Just ask him a question. He’s like willing to answer. He He wants to answer. He wants to help everybody.
