MLB LIVE🔴 Arizona Diamondbacks vs Oakland Athletics – Aug 3, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

and welcome into the ballpark. Happy to have you with us. MLB the show has inner league action for you this afternoon. It’s the Arizona Diamondbacks going up against the Athletics. And now, please welcome your All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. All right, just about set to go. And on the hill, Jeffrey Springs. Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. All right, ready to go here. This is Corbin Carroll. That’s too low. And we’re underway here this afternoon. That one finds the corner and a count even one and one. Here’s a fun fact on Corbin, and I I don’t know if everyone remembers their first jersey, but Carol certainly does. He used to rock an Ichiro Suzuki growing up. Close, but called a ball. And a count. Two on one. Let’s go, Jeffrey. swing and a miss. Struck him out. One out in the top of the first. Oh, nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there. Just a low 90s fast and I’m not sure he was trying to challenge him, but that’s pretty much what happened. Very hitable location, but he found a way to just get it by him. Here’s Catel Marte. First off, spring and it just misses. Springs, he has a reputation, I don’t know, maybe a knack for working himself out of tough situations that he finds himself in. You know, you like that in a relief pitcher, but when you have it for a starting pitcher, a guy that can get out of a tight spot, that is pretty valuable. And you won’t see the skipper rush to get somebody up in the bullpen as soon as he starts to see some signs of trouble. This guy’s earned a longer leash and because of that confidence grows with the players and teammates playing behind him that when things get a little rough out there, they know he’ll find his way through it. Puts it away for the two away. And let’s take a look at the lineup. And Chris, this offense is facing a defense that is well known for kicking the ball around a bit. How aware are you offensively of a bad defensive team? Well, you’re not like completely aware because you’re really focusing on your approach. But I think when you know about a team and how they can be sloppy and as it plays out in a ball game, you’re more intent on saying with two strikes, I got to make sure that I put the ball in play because even if I don’t get a knock, there’s a chance they commit an error and it leads to us scoring more runs. Next offering is in for a strike. How much of the ability to do that in a tight spot is the mental approach? I think it’s very much being able to have a laser-like focus, slow everything down, stay right in that moment, pitch to pitch, execution, and focusing on that catcher’s mid. He swings and fouls one off. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Two outs. Line drive. Fair ball. Now he turns and heads for second. The throw in. And he starts his afternoon off right with a double. Got to love the resiliency he showed in that at bat. Battling with two strikes. You really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing. Foul. One thing that was great about the approach, his head was down all the way through the pitch and that’s how you do it. Aueno Suarez up to the plate now. Another solid power season. Let’s go Jeffrey. And that one upstairs ball one. Well, you always want to come out in the first inning, try to put something up on the board. It’s a big two out double right there. See if the cleanup man can drive him in and put a tally up there on the board. Swings through that one for strike one. Boy, he’s realizing out there on the mound that he’s got to settle in pretty quickly or else he’s going to get hit hard in this first inning. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. Just a little too quick on that front shoulder, front hip, front foot. Everything comes open. No way of making contact with that one. And that’s downstairs. Full count. Three and two. Lordis Goreel Jr. in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Strike him out. Well, here’s a chance right here for one of the better hitters on this roster to get him on the board in the first thanks to the three-hole hitter extending the inning. Good at bat with two outs. Good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. And that one hammered and it gets into the corner, but it’s fouled. Well, he was ready for that fast ball right there. Really turned on it. Hit it hard. had the distance but just too much hook to it. So might want to make a little bit of an adjustment. Let it travel a little more and see if you can keep that thing fair. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. About to see the 11th pitch of the at here. Ah ground ball and that’s through the infield coming home. Here’s the throw to the plate. It’s off the mark and he scores and it’s one- nothing. But when you see that many pitches at a bat, your chances of succeeding go up. And right there we see the result. And it’s Lordis Goreel Jr. It on the ground to short. They get the force. That’s out number three. So, one run in the inning on this base hit. It’s an early one- nothing lead. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back here with my pal Singi, today’s starting pitcher, Ryan Nelson. And Chris pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a field difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Lawrence Butler, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. And that one clips the corner. Wow. Just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond. Just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either. Get out of here. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Counts full. Three and two. Way to go. Lifted in the air left field. Pretty well struck. Guriel handles the chance. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. Of course, a big piece for them is their DH, Brent Rooker. Yeah, definitely someone I always enjoy, you know, when I get a chance to watch him, whether he’s hitting in a game or even taking swings during batting practice. Man, this guy’s always so focused on what he’s doing on that task at hand. He’s got so much attention to detail that when he steps in the box, his success rate is really high. Nick Kirk in now. Takes ball one off the plate. One out. Base is empty. Nick, that’s inside. And it’s two and 0. Poo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Next offering in there for a strike now. Two balls in a strike. That one is upstairs. One down. Base is empty. That catches the corner. Three and two. Goes down swinging for the strike out. Pulled the string on the change up. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more. His timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strike out. And next is the designated hitter, Brent Rooker. And ball one. Let’s go to baby. Let’s go. Two outs. Ace is empty. Foot late that time, but it’s strike two. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. That’s inside. And that’s ball three. Really good take, especially with two strikes. too high and it’s ball four. It wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long at bat. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the walk. Very gritty. And now a chance for Shay Langelers. Nelson checks over to first and he’s back. Way to go, baby. Let’s go. Foul ball. And that’s outside. Rooker leads off first with two down to the inning. So a foul ball makes it one and two. way high. He really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the zone. He knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone, it gets hit hard by a power guy like this. That’s a nice miss right there. Here’s a 2-2. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. The A’s strand one. Still behind by a count of one to nothing. And we’re back. Top of the second. And here’s the catcher, Adrien Del Castillo. Del Castillo, 25 years old. and he was a second round pick in 2021. That one down the line and that’s just fouled. Swung on. Popped up left side. Hernandez hauls it in for the good hard fast ball up in the zone right there. They look really good coming in, but so hard to get on top of as a hitter. Tristan English. So up next, Tristan English. First pitch just misses. And that’s in there at the knees. Rusty Valentine calling balls and strikes. Boo. Something I hear from hitters about Valentine is they know they don’t have to protect off the plate too much in two strike counts. And that can be a big deal in terms of your confidence and seeing some pitches in that at bat. Liner base hit. just kind of slice that one into center. I could watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. Now the third baseman, Bla1 Alexander. Little bit low. Yeah, that’s fouled off. The 1-1 is fouled off. out towards right center field. Dive in, makes the grab. Betty Knight, center fielder Jorge Barrosa. This dive wasn’t the result of a bad route, Singi. The only reason he made the play is because his route was so good. No doubt, Boo. Statcast tells the same story. I mean, he got to his spot as quickly as you can possibly get there, and he had to in order to have a chance at that diving play. Just special. Digging in is the switch in outfielder, Jorge Barrosa. Just off the outside edge and it’s one and0. The pitch that one outside now two and 0. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. As a hitter, you got to learn something from that pitch. You clearly wasn’t timed up on the fast ball. In a two- count, you have to be ready to do damage. squirts away from Langalers. So, a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. So, now two on and two outs. Now batting right fielder Corbin Carroll. Back to the top of the lineup. Next up for the Diamondbacks, Corbin Carroll. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. Swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. He’s got it. And that is that Diamondback strand a pair. They lead it one- nothing ready to go for the last half of the unit. And now Tyler Sodro Tyler Sodro. All right, Tyler. Let’s go. That’s in there. Going one. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt. Up with it. Fires to first in time to get him. One away in the strikeout. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of putting them away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. Here’s Miguel Anduhar. That one fouled off. One ball, one strike. Pitch misses now. Two balls in a strike. in the air to left center. Barrosa on the move to the alley. He’s got it. There’s two away. Batting seven right fielder Carlos. So digging in Carlos Cortez. And that one is downstairs. And that is ball one. Swinging a foul straight back in the dirt and a count two and one. That’s out to center field. Barrosa sizes this one up and makes the grab. That is the inning. We played two innings. It’s one to nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now Catel Marte Marte Springs back to work and he pumps in a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Swing and a miss. towards first. He takes it on his own. Leadoff man retired here in the third. Now Daddy, short stop. Heraldo Peromo. Now up next for Arizona, Heraldo Peromo. One for one with a double and a run scored. A little out front. there as he swings through it. And he really sells the change up with that arm action. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go. That’s inside. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. And that’s ruled a swing. It’s a strikeout. Au Suarez up to hit now. RBI singlearez. His last time up. that pitch in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Nowadays, with advanced metrics and increased use of moving the infielders around, defense isn’t necessarily about making errors. Are you able to get to the ball? Are you able to position fielders where hitters hit the ball, but within the new shift rules? in an area that goes unnoticed is the coach that’s responsible for positioning and then uh the research person that’s providing the information. So what we’re seeing in baseball so many more people behind the scenes that are contributing to the success between the lines cut on and miss dropped him out and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Offense held in check there. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Diamondbacks one and the A’s nothing. Bottom of the inning. Here’s the second base. Max Schum. Second base Max Schuman. The pitch. Swinging a foul straight back and a pop off right side. Foul territory and there’s one down. Betty ninth shorts stop Daryl Hern digging in. Daryl Hern late on that fast ball. Well, they just threw that fast ball by him, elevated. And if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity inside and it’s one and one. ball two. Two in one. Just missed. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. right side hard hit. English takes it to the bag and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. Now batting center fielder Lawrence Butler. So the lineup flips over Lawrence Butler now at the plate. That one misses. One and0. Two down to and he hits a ground ball right side and that’s a fair ball. Makes the turn and heads for second and he’ll pull in there with a stand up double. I’m sure he feels really good about that one. Everyone’s trying to elevate the ball in today’s game, but if you can hit a ball that hard on the ground, it’s going to find some holes. So, runner at second, two down. Now, the number two hitter, Nick Curts. His first at bat was a strike out and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Strike Butler at second with two down. That misses and the count is one and one. That’s above on the ground right side and that’s fouled. Lifted in the air down the left side. Guriel has it sized up. Squeezes it. And that is the third out of the inning. And we’re back all set for the start of the inning. And here is Lordis Goreel Jr. And a first pitch fast is in for a strike. You know, these Dbacks doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. Fans another. That’s three straight strikeouts. Just blown away in that at bat. Three fast balls, all strikes. Was he able to foul one off? There’s not much you can take away from an at bat like that as a hitter other than maybe there’s something wrong with your eyes. Got to have better timing on the fast ball next time. Next to hit for Arizona, Adrien Del Castillo. He’s 0 for one. Right through there for a strike and one. Sliced hard but fouled down the left side. One down. Base is empty. Make it four strikeouts in a row. Just cruising along. Oh, just excellent location on that inside fast ball. really locked him up. And as a hitter, it’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So, you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. It’s hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called the ball, but either way, that’s a really nice pitch. English in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. Next offering is fouled back. Cap dances out of the way of that one. Foul ball still a one and two count. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Headed towards the corner. And that is a foul ball. Down in moved his feet. Next pitch just misses. And now it’s filled up. Three and two. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. gets it to first and Arizona is set down one, two, three. Nothing doing for Arizona, but they lead it one to nothing. Ready to go. Bottom four now. The A’s designated hitter, Brent Rooker. Brent Rooker. Bring it home. Bring it home at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two outside two straight. Rooker started after it, tried to hold up. Now a look to first and no swing says Jerry Hillsdale. Let’s go. Battling here as he fouls it away. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Now that here’s the power hitting catcher, Shay Langers. This is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game caller, good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. Yeah, the first offering is not close. When you got a catcher like this guy with a big arm like that behind the plate, it really shuts down the running game. When you have a catcher that can throw like that, a pitcher doesn’t have to worry as much about the slide step. He can keep his mechanics intact and have a better opportunity of getting that hitter out with a swing and miss. Two balls in a strike. Here it comes. And a strike in there. The A’s down by a run. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Next offering upstairs and he grounds one to the right side. What a stop to his knee. The throw and they get the out. Look at how he dives right there. He’s able to pop up to both knees. Not enough time to get to his feet, but he threw a cannon across the diamond to get the runner. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Soderstrom. 0 for one so far. That clips a corner. Oh, and one and downstairs. Three to go, baby. Let’s go. Two balls. One straight. Fouls. One off out of play. Back to our left. And it remains two and two. Out of bounds right side. Marte throws to first in time. Three up, three down. Inning over. A’s go quickly and quietly there. They’re down one- nothing. Ready now for the fifth inning. Here’s the third base. Blaze Alexander. Alexander. And that is downstairs. Ball one. Slapped hard the other way but foul. Fought off. Foul that to right. Cortez makes the catch and there’s one gone. Up next for the diamond. Jorge Bar Roa getting ready to hit worked a walk in his first trip to the plate. Barrosa in his rookie season 24 years old and he was born in Venezuela. One down. Base is empty. Swings through that one out in front that time. swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field and they have their first hit since the second inning. Now batting right fielder Corbin Carroll. So up next, Corbin Carroll for two in this one. There’s the strike. Let’s get through here. This one in the air on Duhar and there’s two away. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. just got underneath it a little bit and popped out. Second base, Catel Mart. Catel Marte up to the plate singing. He’s a guy that covers both sides of the plate about as well as anyone in the sport. How difficult is that to do? Well, just look at the back of my bubblegum card. You’ll see how hard it is. These guys are great, man. They have the ability to look out there, but also to be able to turn on the inside pitch. Those that can really sharpen things on the outer half, those are the ones that become elite. Barrosa, the runner at first with two gone and a foul ball. Swing and a high-fly ball right field. Nabs it and that’ll do it. One left for the Diamondbacks, but they hold a one- nothing lead. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Shabi with my buddy Chris Singleton and set to get us started. Bottom five, Miguel Anduhar. That misses the zone and that’s ball one. Activity in the bullpen. Anthony Dclifani up and throwing for manager Tory Lavello. Woodford warming up as well. line drive caught. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Now it’s the right fielder, Carlos Cortez. He’s 0 for one. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. right through there for a strike. Goodness, I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mount. Highfly ball down the left field line. This one’s got a chance. And forget it. his first homer of the year and we’re all square. It’s 1-1. He just sent this stadium into a frenzy. They’re going nuts. His bat looks like it’s in the zone for such a long time. And that gives him the ability to get barrel on it and hit the ball out to any part of the park. Now it’s the second baseman, Max Schuman. Popped out and fouled ground. First time through. That one in there across the letters. One strike. 02 count both pitches on the inside part of the plate. Hitter is thinking I don’t want to get beat here. This is a good time for something off speed away. That just misses and it’s one and two. cut out and miss. Struck him out. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Got him swinging on that pitch away to finish him off. But everything early in the bat was in tight. Really challenged him in there with some competitive pitches, not letting him get his hands extended, but of course that eventually opens up the outside part of the plate and he just wasn’t able to adjust. Next up for the A’s, Daryl Hernese. Fast ball for a strike at 95. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that’s six Ks for him in this one. Just one hit in the inning, but it was a big one right here as it ties the ball game. All even at one a piece. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. And we’re back. And now the shorts stop. Heraldo Purdomo. Springs back to work. Here’s the swing and a line drive and a base hit to right field. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Waste no time there. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Go ahead run on base and now Au Heno Suarez fouled off down the right side. line drive. That’s a fair ball inside third. Ruer stops at second and the first two reach to start the inning. Well, that may end up being an at bat we go back to later on when this game is over. Ripped that one down the line and kept it fair. And even when you hit it that far out front, you still have to keep your hands tight to your body so you don’t hook around that baseball and put it in foul territory. And that right there was perfect. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. Now pitching. A new pitcher on the mound for the A’s, Jacob Lopez. And he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year. Typically at least one in innings, so he’ll be tough to get to. Here’s Lordis Guriel Jr. struck out on just three pitches last time. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. with the go-ahead run standing at second and we’re the top half of the six. Inside just missed and a swing and a miss. clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes and that one is lifted in the air. He’s got it. Runner tags at second and the throw’s offline. Safe at third. Good read there at second base to move up to third. Now it’s a lot easier to get that run in with one away. And now the catcher comes up to him, Adrien Del Castillo. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. And what you tell yourself is, I want to stay square to the plate, try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. Just missed. In this situation, the batter’s got to know what the pitcher is trying to do to him, and that’s trying to get him to hit the ball on the ground, get two for one. You got to look for something up in the zone, and worst case scenario, you deliver the sacrifice fly in the air, left field, down the line. gets over the wall and that’s an automatic double and a run comes in to score. Well, there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that. You get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty. And now you’re just looking for the next guy to kind of do the same thing. Maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well. So, two in scoring position with one out. Next up for the Diamondbacks, Tristan English fouled off. He was late. Suarez at third. Del Castillo at second with one away. This one in the air. Schuman, he’s there. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Well, that’s a frustrating at bat right there. Big opportunity and just missed it. I know he wanted to do some damage. Next guy will have to pick him up. Bla1 Alexander stands in now for the Diamondbacks. So, with second and third occupied, they go for the intentional walk. Base is now loaded. And there’s a force at every base. The centerielder. Here’s the center fielder, Jorge Barrosa. A walk and he’s also singled. Close but called a ball and it’s one and0. Homeplayed umpires try to tighten things up a little bit. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Two and 0. Pressure on right here. 20 count. Base is loaded. You don’t want to fall to a three ball count and then walk in or run. He’s got to challenge the hitter right here. Fast for a strike. So they’re all loaded up with two outs. just missed. Look, in situations like these, the air can get really thin up there at the plate. Got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down in the air, center field. Butler drops into the glove and that’s the third out. So they get one but end up leaving the bases loaded. Top of the order do up in the home half of the six. It’s the Diamondbacks two and the A’s one. Back now for the bottom of the sixth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Anthony Dclifani. And if you dig into his walk rate, his numbers are really impressive. He’s really filled up the strike zone this season. So these batters better be ready to swing the bats. Well, one run game and now it’s going to be Lawrence Butler one for two. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Definitely a swing and miss slider down and in. He finished that really well. Just couldn’t get him to offer at it. Hard hit to third. throws across the diamond and that’s one out as they get the lead off hitter in the six. The first base Nick. So digging in Nick Curts, baby. That’s hard hit on the line. Guriel handles the chance. Up next for the A’s, designated Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. Strike out and a walk. There’s the strike. Some hitters are just more confident if they can track that first pitch out of the hand of the pitcher. They don’t care if they fall behind 01. check swing and he went and it’s 0 and two. 0 and two and there’s a ball and two down, nobody on here in the bottom of the six. Stays alive. Two outs. Bows it off. Still one and two. And delivers outside. And now the count is full. And another power hitter lurking in the on deck circle. Shay Langalers in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Ninth pitch of the at bat. Do next. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. The A’s go quietly. Nothing doing there for the A’s and our score remains 2-1 and welcome back to the ballpark. And now the right fielder Corbin Carroll. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. That one misses and it’s three and0. There’s the strike. That’s in there. And boy, that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. Ground ball right side and foul ball. Hanging in there pretty good against the lefty. Foul ball and it remains a full count. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Ripped right field. That’s back there. That one way back and it’s gone. He sends it out of here. His 22nd homer of the year. And they add a run. It’s 3-1. He kept swinging and it paid off. Well, that was a battle, Boo, and he just kept taking his cuts. Finally squared one up. Looks like this guy was looking out over the plate, but he was ready to turn on the inside fast ball. So direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ballpark. manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen. Jacob Lopez departs two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout and we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching. So they turn to the lefty in this spot, Ben. This southpaw’s been really good against left-handed hitters. An outstanding hitter in Catel Marte 0 for three with two fly outs and a ground out and that gets the inside corner for a strike. Always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in here. They’re the top half of inning number seven. Now one and one. The real threats are coming up. Already giving up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. The 1-1 is fouled off. swing and a miss at the splitter and it’s a strike out. Well, that splitter out of the hand, it just sort of jumps on you and your interpretation is here comes a fast ball again. Well, it never really reaches because the bottom falls out of it and you swing over the top and that’s why they call it a split finger fast ball because it looks like a four seamer. Now up next for Arizona, Heraldo Peromo with a short stop. takes the ball. Fly ball down the line. Grabs it on the run and there are two down. Well, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Suarez the next to hit takes ball one and that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. Back door him with a breaking ball. just got the corner. There’s nothing you can really do with that. Right through there for a strike. Breaking ball inside. Two and two. And they’ll do it again. Two down to a swing and a miss. Speed him with a fast ball. But the solo shot stretches their lead even further. And this is now a 31 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Bottom of the seventh. Here’s the catcher, Shay Langalers. Shay Langalers. That pitch clips the outside corner. Strike one. You know, these A’s being a little too patient at the plate in this game. Sometimes it’s a good thing, but today they’re continuing to fall behind in the count, and that’s adding a ton of pressure to their offense. Next offering is down low. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. And a one, two on the ground to third. Slings to first. One away. Big time out. Leading off the home seven. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks, partner. Tyler Sodstrom digs in now. First pitch misses. Base is empty. One away here. The bottom of the seventh. That one is absolutely belted. And that gets down in the corner around first heading for two. And that’s a two bagger. All over that one right there. That was a thing of beauty. He may have been a little behind the pitch, but by getting that barrel into the hitting zone early on in his swing, he was able to meet it and still shoot a line drive down the line and left. Really important at bat. Coming up now. Now the third baseman, Miguel Anduhar. liner and this could be trouble. Brown’s third headed for the plate. He’ll score and now the tying run is into scoring position. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring at back. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. One out, runner at second. Cortez the next to hit. He’s already homered here in this one. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Aduar the runner at second with one away. Next offering is in for a strike. Ah ground ball and that’s through the infield. comes in quickly and the tying run forced to hold on at third with no way. Still able to come through behind in the count right there. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team of bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Ty runs now just 90 ft away. Just got to be wary of that double play though. That would strand him and in the inning next to Max Schuman in for a strike. Good slider in the infield at the corners. Don’t be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring. That one missed. This is a situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended. What you have to be careful of is that pitch that’s up that’s in on your hands. That’ll pop you up in the infield. And that’s exactly what the pitcher wants. This one in the air, right field, brings it in. Runner tags for home to the plate. Safe and we are tied. Oh, that’s a quality at bat right there. You know the situation. You need something in the air and deep enough. And that’s exactly what he did. Good pass to the baseball. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. That’s it for Dcliffani. And it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Now pitching for number 43 gets the ball now. Oh, we got ourselves a new ball game. Nice job right there at the plate. Sacrifice fly and he gets in the tying run. Here’s the short stop at the play. Carol Hernese. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Just missed. Little chopper rolls foul. Two outs. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. Pitch misses there and it’s three and two. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion so something in the gap should definitely score it outside and that is ball four. And with two outs, the go-ahead run is at second base. Oh, interesting. He went with the off speed and walked to him. Man, you want to challenge the guy with the fast ball. And now Lawrence Butler one for three. Bottom of the zone and a cold strike. Movement in the bullpen. Kendall Graveman up and loosening in the pen. Number 27, the lefty warming up as well. Two on, two outs, and fouled off. Looked like he got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, you want to stay up the middle that way. If you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. If you’re a little late, opposite field, knock. That missed by a lot. Now one and two. First and second, two down. Caught him looking for the K, but they score twice and even it up late. Eighth inning coming up. All tied up at three apiece. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Justin Sterner. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. He tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Guriel in the box here. lets that one go for a ball. Action in the pen down there. Mason Miller, the closer is getting loose. Just he hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the heart of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here. hit hard on the ground to short. Whips it across. Lead off man is out here in the eighth. Now batting catcher Adrien Del Castillo. Adrien Del Castillo stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Basketball for a strike. Fights it off. You’ll see another. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And that’s off the inside edge. One and two to count. Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. All tied up and we’re in the top of the eighth. Next offering is downstairs. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Got him. Two gone now. Well, often times that’s the pitch he’s trying to set off, the curve ball. He’ll lean on it pretty heavily. So, you got to be expecting it, look for it, and sell out so you don’t miss it when you get it. Tristan English stands in now for the Diamondbacks. There’s the strike. Sterner, 28 years old, and he found his way onto the team after being claimed off waiverss. Just missed. One ball, one strike. Swing and a miss. And it’s one and two. Man, that was pretty gross right there. Swings and misses. Strike him out. So, one, two, three go to Diamondbacks. Score remains tied at three. Out of the bottom of the eighth batter, Nick Curt gets the outside corner with that one. That was just paint on the first pitch fast ball. Next pitch inside and now it’s even one and one and a swing and a miss there. That pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track. Fights that one away. Still one and two. And he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. Now that Brent Walker will hit next and a pair of strikeouts. He’s a big strong guy. Can untie this game with one swing. Check swing and he went. And that’s strike one. Two ball one strike. Swinging a foul out of play. Swing and a high fly ball left field. pretty well struck that one back there and it’s off the foul pole for a home run. And that’s how they take the lead. It’s 43. These fans are really excited right now. Well, he really crushed that thing down the line and everyone had to hold their breath until it flanked off the pole. And every time that happens, it just kind of feels like a trick shot or something. But really, it’s just a stroke of luck that it stays fair long enough. One down. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Shay Langalers. And the first pitch misses for ball one on the M. And this is a spot where he’s got to treat this as a clean inning. Forget about the home run. Forget about now being behind on the scoreboard. Start fresh and get those hitters back up to the plate as quickly as possible. And another ball. Back and forth we go. A seessaw battle in the late stages of this one. Swing and a miss and it’s two and one. dives and he can’t hang on. He beats the throw. He’s in safely and now there’s a runner at first. Man at first with one gone. Tyler Soderstroke now at the plate. Now a high-fly ball out to left center. Guriel trying to get there. He’s got it. That’s out number two. Now batting third baseman Miguel Anduhar. Now here is Miguel Anduhar. Sing. You talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. splits the plate and it’s 0 and one. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. Now bullet to second base, but he’s got it to end the inning. The A’s get one on this homer. Last chance coming up for the Dbacks. pitching for back now and on the mound closer Mason Miller. And we all know about a slider. It’s just man and one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a tongue. Well, one game. Here’s the third base, Bla1 Alexander. the pitch. Swings through that one. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one. That’s the one. When she elevates, guys aren’t touched it. Way high there. Now two and two. Wow. Triple digits on the gun. I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past, but it’s still impressive to watch. looking to get the tying run on base. Foul ball. Another two-2 upcoming. Swing and a miss. Strip him out and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Well, that right there is what you want to see out of here. Come in and close the door. cancel any hope that that opponent has in making some type of comeback in the ball game. Tell you what, that helps him settle in and that helps everybody else relax a little bit to get these other two outs. Barrosa in the box now takes strike one. Well, so many hard throwing relievers in the game these days. You would think that hitters have made the adjustment, but I don’t know if you ever get used to it. Just pumping gas out of the bullpen. So hard to play catchup. One down. Base is empty. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through. It’s just bigger than your own individual stats. Just kept it simple. Played pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down. So, a change being made at first base coming in as a pinch runner, Jake McCarthy. Now, it’s the right fielder, Corbin Carroll. He’s already homered in this game. And a strike right through there. That one in triple digits. Miller over to first and he dives back in safely. He’s got plus speed, but in this situation, all eyes are going to be over there trying to keep his lead tight. And that is out of play. He might want to steal second in this spot, but he’s dealing with a catcher that has one of the best pop times in the game. He needs to pick his spot very wisely. This is one of those situations defensively where you can’t try to do too much. But you got to make sure that you feel the ball cleanly and get one out first. It’s going to be tough to get two with this kind of speed in the batter’s box. Chase the fast up the ladder for strike three. Gosh, here it is. Hit it. Three pitch strike out. All fast balls. Man, he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch right now. Diamondbacks down to their final out. Catel Marte stands in now for the Diamondbacks. 0 for four, a couple of flyyous. He’s also grounded out and struck out. Swing and a miss and 102 on the radar gun. And that one fouled off. Miller is just one strike away. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Well, he missed badly with that O2 fast ball. Hitter has to understand probably wants to try to put him away with that pitch. So, got to stay ready for it. Got it. And the ball game. Well, this turned out to be an exciting, very well played game. Always feels great when you can take the lead in the eighth at home. Come out in the ninth, the crowd will be behind that pitcher as he tries to get those final three outs. Everybody goes home happy with a win like this. 4-3 our final score. The A’s hang on to win it. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
