MLB LIVE🔴 Tampa Bay Rays vs Los Angeles Angels – Aug 4, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
and welcome into the ballpark. Happy to have you with us. A great night for baseball ahead on the show. It’s the Tampa Bay Rays and the Los Angeles Angels. First pitch coming at you right after the break. And now, please welcome your Los Angeles Angels. All right, just about ready for baseball and getting a start for the Angels. Reed Deetmers and Singy that may be his name, but the strikeout is his game. Well, Boo, I can tell you’ve been working on that one, but yes, you are right. This guy strike out for nine over 11. I mean, that’s just getting it done. There are a lot of strikeouts in that other lineup. And when you look at what he’s able to do, man, it’s going to be a fun one to watch today. center field. Adele under it, makes the catch for the out. Now, a look at Kevin Cash’s lineup for the Tampa Bay Rays. And Chris, this offense is facing a defense that is well known for kicking the ball around a bit. How aware are you offensively of a bad defensive team? Well, you’re not like completely aware because you’re really focusing on your approach. But I think when you know about a team and how they can be sloppy and as it plays out in a ball game, you’re more intent on saying with two strikes, I got to make sure that I put the ball in play because even if I don’t get a knock, there’s a chance they commit an error and it leads to us scoring more runs. Brandon Laauo in the box now. No balls in a strike. Small one. One out. Base is empty. And a swinging to miss. See if you can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one, two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you could get hurt. And that’s outside. Twins and misses. It’s a strike out. Slider got him for strike three. Boi just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up. Two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. Yandi Diaz now check swing and he went and that’s strike one. Oh and one outside. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Here’s a high-fly ball out to center. drops into the glove and that is that onto the bottom of the first. No score back here at Angel Stadium. Our starting pitcher in this one, Ryan Pepio and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser, the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. One up, one down. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lineup in that cleanup spot. a key piece for this club, Taylor Ward. Yeah, definitely someone I always enjoy, you know, when I get a chance to watch him, whether he’s hitting in a game or even taking swings during batting practice, man, this guy is always so focused on what he’s doing on that task at hand. He’s got so much attention to detail that when he steps in the box, his success rate is really high. Mike Trout in now. Takes ball one off the plate. Next offering is in for a strike. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. Swinging a drive deep right field. Low hustling after it and out of here. Home run number 20 on the year. And just like that, they’re out front. It’s one nothing. Well, I feel like we’re seeing more of this these days than we ever have before. You’ve got high velocities on the mound. You’ve got stronger hitters with really good pass to the baseball. So much power in this sport. Opposite field home run. I tell you what, I feel like I see at least one every day. And that was an incredible job to keep that ball fair. A change up missing and the count is 2 and0. Heart of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. That one misses. And that’s ball three. Pepio maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run, Chris. Yeah, it seems that way. You know, pitchers, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitched. They’re not trusting their stuff. fouled off and they’ll do it again. One down, base is empty. Draws the walk there. Perfect. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that. Now the left fielder, Taylor Ward. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. There’s the strike. No action in the bullpen though. Looks like they’re going to let him stay out there. Oh, one down. And that one a little bit high. Shadow leads off first with one away. Missed with a change up and a count two and one. Ground ball right side off balance feed. There’s one double play. What a twin killing to end the inning. Angels get one with a solo homer. It’s now one- nothing. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back in Anaheim at the plate, Jonathan Randa singing when the year’s over he’ll have a new careerh high for RBI’s in a season. Deetmers back to work. Swings and misses. It’s 0 and one. Going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball. The one is outside and it’s a ball and a strike. Our played umpire Freddy Ferguson swings through that one. I would throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swings and misses. Struck him out. I’m not sure that was the exact location the pitcher wanted, but it worked. He got the swing and miss and I’m sure a bit of sigh of relief after seeing that one go through the zone. digging in. Junior Camero pitch is in the dirt. One and0 Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. I got one ball, one strike. That one fouled off. Kicks and fires. Swing and a miss. Curve ball in the dirt. Oh gathers, throws to first. Got him. Two gone after the strikeout. Off to a strong start. Singing as he’s punched out three of the first five he’s faced. Well, he’s definitely minimizing contact. He can get the swing and miss when he needs it, but he’ll also keep the defense fresh behind him, allowing some balls in play as well. And stepping in for the Rays, Josh Low. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. line drive. Fair ball. Now he’ll turn for second. The throw in. Throw is offline and he’s got a double. That was a thing of beauty. He may have been a little behind the but by getting that barrel into the hitting zone early on in his swing. He was able to meet it and still shoot a line drive down the line and left. So runner at second, two down. Johnny Duca next to hit for the Rays. First pitch and he just misses. And that one clips the corner. Probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. Two outs and one in scoring position and there’s a foul ball and a swing and a miss. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. One left for Tampa. Still behind by a count of one to nothing. And we’re back. Bottom half of inning number two. Here’s Joe taking high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. There’s the strike. Next pitch is downstairs. Fast ball is outside. Well, I I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. 2-2 now. And that skips in the dirt. hammers that one deep left field and forget it. His 22nd homer of the year and they add to their lead. It’s two nothing. That was blasted. Absolutely no doubt off the bat. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on other pitches in this at bat was very patient and it paid off. And now Yan Mona and it finds its way through for a hit. Batty seven catcher and at first stepping in the long ball threat Logan O’Happy he has as they like to say let me guess boo light tower power that’s right Monata gets his lead at first with nobody out next offering is downstairs. That’s a strike. Battling here as he fouls it away. That one missed. Recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Struck him out swinging. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Well, that’s a blue zone right there or the cold zone on the hitting chart. Just doesn’t have much success in that part of the strike zone. And a really good job of the pitcher executing. Try to go there as often as you can. The numbers are in your favor. Luis Renifo gets a chance to hit here. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. And another ball. Little bit low. Man at first. One away. And ball forward. Two aboard. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at. Here’s the rookie right fielder. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Traffic on the bases with one already in bottom half of inning number two. That one finds the zone and that’s strike two. Now just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. And that’s downstairs and outside. Too close for me partner to take that O2 fast ball, but for whatever reasons he let it go by. He’s still in the at bat. I don’t think he’ll let the next one go. Runners at first and second with one gone. hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Zack Neto, the next to hit for the Angels. Grounded out his first time up. And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. Well, I know they’ve gotten out to an early lead, but you don’t want to take these opportunities for granted with two outs. Still lock in with a quality at bat. Drive in that run. You may not have another runner in scoring position the rest of this ball game. That’s the ball. The short stop takes the ball. Pitch early in this game. He needs call for a strike. Struggling with command issues. He’s got Oh, now this is blasted way back there. On its way. Gone. And this place is rocking. It’s their second home run of the inning. And they add on. It’s 5 zip. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. That’s exactly the pitch he was looking for. Crushes it and hits it out of the ballpark. So to away with nobody on now Trout gets a chance to hit right through there for a strike. Well, they’ve been able to score four runs off of him in this inning. And this is where you want to just max out. Get as much as you can. Give him one of those tough innings where it’s going to be hard for him to recover in the next one. Two outs. And that’s downstairs and it’s a ball and a strike. breaking ball misses down and away. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. Next offering is fouled back. Two down. Nobody on on the ground and it goes just fouled. And there’s a ball. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up. If he’s walked, cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working and the lead is now 5 nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Top half of the third inning. Now up for Tampa Bay. Taylor Walls. Check swing went around and one 0 and one and that one upstairs. Ball one. hit on the ground to the right side. Steps off first for the out catcher Nick Forz. Now the catcher up to hit. Nick Forz goes 5′ 11 in hitting ninth in today’s lineup. and he was drafted in the fourth round back in 2018. There’s a strike. And it’s fouled away. Blind into right. Dives, but it falls. Could be extra bases around second now as they still don’t have it. And he’s there at third with a triple. Back against the wall with two strikes, but found a way. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. Could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game. So, the Rays batting order turns over. Here’s the left fielder 0 for one with a fly out to center outside. And that’s ball one. and that one fouled off. One away with a runner at third. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Swag and a miss. Now one and two. One ball, two strikes. stays alive. Nope. Outside pitch misses there and it’s three and two. and ball four to a board. He’s making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound, but you know, his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this, but he’s going to have to buckle down right here. Here we go. Turn in the box with one away as he takes ball one. Here’s an opportunity. If you’re going to get back in this game, you have to take advantage of this situation. This feels like their chance. First and third, one down. And that is downstairs and a count. Two and one. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. That one in for a strike. Two and two. Great spot to be in right here for the pitcher. He can either strike this guy out or get a ground ball. Double play. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Sea strikes him out for the second time today. Well, that’s the money maker right there. Two strikes slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter. I mean, that’s just tough if you’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. That’ll fire up the dugout. It’s 53. Wasn’t fooled on the first pitch at all. He squared it up right away. Well, I’m sure there’s a big grin on his face right now. Boo. He’s probably had some of those that didn’t stay fair, but off the bat, it looked like he was going to bend foul. Was able to keep it in there. Tucked it nicely, and he gets the jog around the bases. Good for him. Swing and a ball popped in the air and it drops in and that keeps the inning going. Now batting third baseman Junior Camro. Junior Camro the next to hit 0 for one so far. And a strike of the outside corner at 95. the runner at first with two gone. Swing and he breaks his bat, reaching for it and brings it in. But the biggest swing of the inning comes right here. A three-run homer. It’s now 53. And welcome back to the ballpark as we go to the last of the third. And here’s the first baseman, Nolan Showell. And that drops in for a strike. I think this is an important inning on the mound for him in this game. He’s got to find a way to settle things down and give some length in this start. right side. Lao slings to first. One gone. Bottom of the third inning. Up next for the Angels. Left fielder. So in for the Angels, Taylor Ward. He hit into a double play his first time up. And that one missing low. Misses outside. Two and 0. Next offering popped in the air right field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Two down. Now batting center fielder Joe Adell the next to hit for the Angels. He’s already homerred in this game. On the corner for a strike and it’s 0 and one and he pumps in a strike. He doesn’t seem to like to pitch up. hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. Go and chew now. Ball that’s out. Swing and a miss. And he struck him out. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Angels go quietly there and it remains 5-3. Start of the fourth and stepping in for the Rays, Josh Low. Josh Low. Angel outside with a breaking ball. Well, these Rays showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. It’s not just the three runs they’ve already scored. On top of that, they forced this starter to throw more pitches than he wanted to at this point of the game. Two balls, one strike. Swanging grounder. foul for space side. And that pitch count is impactful because if they can keep making him work hard out there, it may force the bullpen to get involved a little sooner rather than later. Waves at the defender for the strike out. Chris, as we look back at the pitch sequence, he hadn’t seen that curveball at all. How tough is it to adjust to something like that with a bunch of break when you haven’t had a look at it yet? Yeah, I mean, you’re dialed up for something firm. You never want to take a called third strike as a fast ball. So, you’re going to be a little anxious before you recognize the pitch. And right there, clearly didn’t see what was coming. Duca batting with one down. Takes the strike Next offering is down low. Movement in the bullpen. Jose Soraniano preparing to come on if needed. Cochanowitz a hardthrowing right-hander up as well. a one-two count and all he’s seen is fast balls. You’ve got to expect something off speed. Stay back. The Rays down by a pair. Top half of inning number four. In the air to left down the line. Ward makes the grab for the second out. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. That one the other way. And that’s just foul. That one lifted to left. Ward makes the grab and that’s the inning. ready to go. Bottom four stepping in. Yawan Mona Yan Mona right through there for a strike. You know, these Angels showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. Not only have they already put up a bunch of runs on the board, but they’ve also made the starter work really hard out there. Foul ball. Like I said, his pitch count is high, so I got to expect they’ll be turning to their bullpin sooner than they had hoped. gets a piece and stays alive. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Highf fly ball right field. Low pulls it in and there’s one away. Up next for the Angels catcher, Logan Ohappy digs in now. He struck out swinging at his first at that one finds the zone. Strike one. Base is empty. One away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Outside corner. There’s a strike. and a swing and a miss. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. Well, that right there is just a pitcher’s pitch. Tailing away from the hitter, blowing away with some good action at the end. You know, even if he gets the bat to that ball, it’s probably just a weak ground ball to the opposite side. I tell you what, that’s a tremendous two- strike pitch. Rano in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. Chases the change up in the dirt and it’s in time for the third out. So that’ll end the inning. Now pitching for Jose Soraniano gets handed the rock out of the pen and as relievers go he’s not a big strikeout guy tries to force weak contact so command and execution are huge for him and now he tripled and scored his first time. And the first pitch misses for ball one. And that’s down and away. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. the other way. Oh, he gloves it. Wow, that was an awesome leaping catch. Great reactions. Great athleticism, man. He snatched that thing out of the air and he robbed him of a base hit. So, the batting order turns over. Now, the left fielder. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball. And that one fouled off. One down. Base is empty. They had a foul ball on the ground to first takes it to the bag. Steps on first and it’s out number two. Now that second base Brandon Laauo and now it’s Brandon Laauo. Come on, let’s go. Pulls that one. Foul in there at the knees and the count is 0 and two. Man, 91 on the slider right there. That’s a hard one. That’s a lowend fast ball for some pitchers. Go back to field two and ball one. Good eye in that spot. Two outs. Base is empty. Next offering upstairs. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance works the walk. Now, one of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Diaz in the box again. Takes the strike. Swings through that one for strike two. But you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing and miss and get through this at bat. Ball one there. Loud off of first with two away. ground ball up the middle throws to first and that is that. So no runs, no hits, no errors and one man left. Last half of the fifth coming up Angels five and the Rays three. Back in Anaheim, John Shabi with my buddy Chris Singleton and set to get us started. Bottom five, number 51 Pepio back to work. First pitch swinging and it’s a knock and that turns the lineup over. Now batting and now Kevin Cash out of the dugout and ready to make a move to the bullpen. Ryan Pepio won’t go any further and the home run really bit him today as he exits on the hook for the loss. New arm coming on after the break. Now pitching for here’s a new pitcher from the pen, Kevin Kelly. And something to be aware of, the long ball has been a little bit of a problem for him this year. Back to the top of the Angels lineup now. Zack Neto, he’s already homered here in this one. That’s a strike. It’s 0 and one. You know, these Angels putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. This one in the air, in position, puts it away for the out and there’s one down. Now batting designated hitter Mike Trout. Here’s Trout. He is quite an athlete. I mean, you look around the other sports, basketball, football, you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports, too. And that misses. And that’s ball one. Tampa Bay’s bullpen with some action. Mason Angler warming up for manager Kevin Cash. Clevenger getting cranked up as well. Now moved to first and he dives back in safely. Let’s go. Swinging a foul out of play. That one in there to Mike Trrowley. One ball, two strike. in the air. Foul off first. Aranda makes the grab. Two away. Ball’s just not carrying to first tonight. Now, you would actually say that to your teammate in the dugout. No, I’m not that cruel, but someone would say it to me, and I’m sure it’s probably been said before. And now the first baseman, Nolan Showell. He’s 0 for one and that one is downstairs and that is ball one. Throw to first and he’s back in there. Clips the corner and the count even at one. It’s one in one and downstairs, swinging a ground ball up the middle. Oh, great stop. And that’s a nice play to end the inning. That was a great job of doing the math. He had the perfect angle. Diving stop completes the play and that ends the inning back here at Angel Stadium. And here’s the first baseman, Jonathan Aranda. Aranda in his second season, 26 years old, and he’s a native of Mexico. And there’s the strike. activity in the bullpen. Sam Bachmann appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Fulmer also getting ready. That misses and the count is one and one. base knock center field. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Hitting is really easy for some guys. One thing that I can see already, his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time. And guys like that, they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane. And even when you don’t get it great, it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder. Camero in the box for the third time today as he takes that one off the plate. Swing and a miss. That’s strike one. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Swing and that ball smashed on a line. Pulls it in for the out. Now it’s the right fielder Josh Low. One for two. That’s in there. And that is strike one. Well, we call that keyhole. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. That’s off the mark. And now it’s even one and one. That’s a little bit low. with the tying run at the plate. And we’re in the top half of the six. That one ripped right center field. It bangs off the wall. Lead runner holds at third. So, two runners in scoring position and just one out. A perfect example right there. That plate discipline, it pays off. The deeper he gets into account, the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the battle. So, two in scoring position with one out. Johnny Duca now at the plate and that is in for a strike. Go and one. Two on, one out. There’s the swing in a miss. Big time jam right there. I hate it as a hitter, but standing in center field, you can’t help but chuckle a little bit. had a breaking ball misses outside. Second and third here. One away. And that one hit 97 on the gun. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Aranda the runner at third. Low over at second with one down on the ground right side. Ranifo slings to first in time. Well, I’m impressed with this guy’s internal clock. He knew he had plenty of time to take that extra step, secure his grip on the baseball, and make a strong, accurate throw. So, next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Taylor Walls for two in this one. In the dirt, ball one. Two outs to the right side down the line and it’s fouled. the one-1 and that one fouled off. That’s a ball in the dirt. Wow, that’s a great job behind the dish there. You don’t want to run yourself out of an inning. So, it’s got to clearly get far enough away from the catcher. If you’re the runner at third, think about scoring. Chopped out in front of the plate. Now the throw to first on the run. Throw is wide. He’s off the bag. Run scores and this inning continues. Forz go ahead run on base. Forez getting ready to hit. Runner takes off. That’s in for a strike. Throw. Save. started after the 01 pitch and now a check down to first. Nope, he held back in the dirt. The tag at third and he’s out. That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. They get two and draw even again. To the bottom of the six we go. 456 coming up. We’re all tied up 55. And we’re back. Well, we go bottom six. Here’s the left fielder Taylor Ward. He was late there. Strike one. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Edwin Usetta warming up for manager Kevin Cash. Seymour, the lefty, warming up as well. inside. One ball, one strike. There’s the strike. He’s been able to go inside as well as outside, effectively working both sides of the plate in this at bat. Swinging and a miss. Struck him out. And that’s one out as they get the leadoff hitter in the six. Now batting Joe Adele will hit next. Adele. First pitch misses. Right through there for a strike. All tied up here in the bottom of the six. Let’s go. One down. Base is empty. That one hammered left field. That’s back there. And it’s out of here. Into the home bullpen for a homer. Another homer. His second home run of the game. It’s 65. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop. And they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Here comes Yan Mona. and that is out of play. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Good job to fight that one off. Just outside. One and two to count. And a sweeper misses for a ball. Misses and accounts full. Swing and a miss. And he’s down on strikes. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. Here’s a big power threat. Logan O’Hap who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. And he swings over the top there. 0 and one. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. That K is his third of the game. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s now 65. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the map, Sam Bachmann. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. Leading off for the one- run game. And now the catcher for the Rays, Nick Forez. just missed. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Very dominant with that fast ball inside. Hitter’s going to be conscious of that. Now you have the outer half of the plate to work with out there on the mound. Two-1 pitch is in there and the count is even. Base hit right field and the tying run is on with a leadoff single. Well, that was an important at bat in this game. So, a great job there stepping up to the challenge. Pretty good fast ball location down and in on the corner, but that was just a nice job to handle it and hit it hard. Very tough spot to get the barrel to most of the time though. No outs. Runner at first. Here’s the Rays leadoff hitter. Outfield playing pretty shallow. Just missed. up the middle and he knocks it down. Gets it there in time though. And now they have a base runner at second. Oh, that was pretty right there. Beautiful play with the bare hand. Lao at the plate. A walk and a pair of strikeouts. Listen, there’s absolutely no reason to pitch to this guy right here. You nibble, you see if he’ll expand his zone, but don’t give him anything to hit. If you walk them, not a big deal. You have a double play opportunity set up. Fought off foul. He’s begging. Give me that pitch one more time. A hanging change up just out in front. So, the tying run at second. That one misses. And that’s ball one. Raised down by a run. That’s outside and it’s two and one. That’s down in almost feel like he’s frustrated a little bit. He wants to be challenged. Yandi Diaz in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. fouls one away and now three and two back to the mound. He’s got it. La out on the play. Well, there’s a lot of riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of Diaz. To the plate now for the Rays is the DH Yandi Diaz. First off, it just misses. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one. That’s the one. when he elevates. Guys aren’t touched it. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit. Just not able to square it up. Swing it a chopper. Needto tosses the first and that is that. One hit, one left. Midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. It’s the Angel six. The Rays five. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Baker. Well, home runs have been a problem this year. Not doing a great job keeping the ball in the yard so far this season. So, we’ll see if that factors in. So in now for the Angels. Luis Reipo is struck out and he is walked a little bit high. Maybe one and0. There’s the strike. One and one. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and one gone. Man, that slider bearing in on your hands like that, it’s just so tough to fight off. It’s kind of like a cutter. It just can eat you up, saw you off. Tell you what, hitters have nightmares about that pitch. Perfectly executed out there on the mound. Number 51, the next to hit takes ball one. Swing and a miss and a count. One at one. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. Way out front for strike two. Clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle two strikes. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Oh, really went aggressive in with that slider. Good two strike pitch right there. At worst case scenario, it’s weak contact in play. Exactly where he and the catcher wanted it. And next for LA, Zack Neto, and he had a big swing of the bat early on of the ball game. Yep. A three-run rocket back in the second. Even though it was early, a big homer like that can be tough to come back from when you’re on the other end of that thing. I mean, it’s tough. Sets up an uphill battle the rest of the way. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Got it started a little too early. Strike one. One ball, one strike. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom of the seventh. Swaying and a miss. There’s that change up. One ball, two strikes. Goes down swinging for the strike out. And he strikes out the side in the seventh. Offense held in check there. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Angels six. The Rays five. Now pitching. Welcome back. a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Carson Fulmer. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. Stands in here, takes ball one low. Close but called the ball and it’s two and one. Home plate umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. Swing and a hard hit grounder to third and foul ball. looking to get the tying run on base. That one outside and that’s ball three. Junior Camero in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here on a line. Pulls it down and he makes the catch and there’s one away. Man, that’s so frustrating. You hit the ball hard, you understand the situation, you want to get on base and try to score that tying run, but no reward right there and just going to have to sit on it. Kevin the next to hit takes outside. Action in the pen down there. Kenley Jansen up and loosening in the pen. Garcia getting loose as well. And another ball. He hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the heart of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here. One down. Base is empty and fouled off. And that one misses up and in. Ball three. He’s great hitting the ball the other way. Hey, and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. This one chopped on the ground, but fouled. Holding on to a one-run lead and we’re in the top of the eighth. Swing and a miss. Strike him out. Chased the fast up the ladder for strike three. That was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Now up for Tampa Bay, Josh Low. And that’s downstairs. And that’s ball one. Two down and a foul ball and a miss. Nice change up. Wow, that’s 89 on the gun and it’s a change up. It’s like good hitting if you’re looking for it, but because of the speed differential between the fast ball and that pitch, really hard for a hitter to get on time with it. Two outs. Missed with a change up and the count is two and two. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Nothing doing here this half. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead, it’s the Angels six, the Rays five. And welcome back to the ballpark. Out of the bottom of the eighth and now the designated hitter for the Angels, Mike Trout. Baker back to work outside low and it’s one and0 way high two balls no strike. Next pitch in for a strike. Two and one now. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. make it four strikeouts in a row. Just cruising along way out in front of that inside pitch there. And just exactly the opposite kind of approach that you want with two strikes. You want to let the ball travel. Make sure you recognize it. Try to shorten up so that you can at least put the ball in play. clearly fooled, but I think even more so, you question the two- strike approach. Foul ball there. Base is empty, one away here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Next offer in there for a strike. 0 and two. That’s a ball. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level. Have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. And they’ll do it again. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. He’s mixing his pitches really well late on that fast ball after seeing the change up. Let’s see if he can elevate one. I think if he does, he’ll get the swing and miss. That one missed on the ground right side and he handles it himself for the out. Now batting left fielder Taylor Ward. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Taylor Ward. Oh, and he hit him. He hit him. First base. Now Batty. And next for the Angels, Joe Adell. One more. And first offering is fouled off. And ball one. One and one. MVP. Next pitch is outside. That one hammered but pulled. Foul. Swag and a miss. The velocity blasted it right past him. Angels leave one. They lead it. However, it’s 6-5. Back in Anaheim, all set to start the ninth in this one. And stepping in for the Rays, Johnny Duca. And a base hit. And that puts the tying run on base. Well, that at bat had a lot of pressure riding on it. So, really great job coming through right there. It’s got to feel good. Just a solid swing right there. Caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit. Those always feel great. And now, let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. No outs. Runner at first. Now, here is Taylor Walls. And there’s one down. Now that catcher Nick Forz, he’s two outs away. Nick Forez digs in now. Slapped the other way. Foul. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. Fulmer checks on first and he’s back in safely. He’s got plus speed, but in this situation, all eyes are going to be over there trying to keep his lead tight. And the pitch is outside. Ball one. This is a good situation if you want to try to steal a base. Nine hitter and you’re about to turn this line up. Here goes the runner. Tap foul at the plate. missed inside with the curb with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Off the plate inside. Three and two. Now, this is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. Maybe a two ball. Five. Four. three and that’s the ball game. The ball for his first career save deserves to be on display at his house. I mean, it’s kind of like when a restaurant frames its first dollar bill somewhere in a wall. You just can’t forget your first save. 65 the final here today. They hang on to win it by a run for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shami saying so long. What the heat?
