Brodie’s Breakdown: Adam Gaudette
Adam Gdet signed with the Sharks back on day one of free agency in early July. He brings 3001 regular season games and 16 playoff tilts of experience to a team that inevitably landed him to play both center and wing here in San Jose. There was kind of some talks and interest from San Jose and it has always been, you know, a spot where I felt like I could fit and get a good opportunity here. And um you know there’s a lot of being from uh Branch Mass playing at Nor Eastern there’s obviously a lot of Boston College hockey connections there and um you know the it it was kind of really what I was looking for in this contract and um you know going to get a good opportunity to play here and and you know continue to prove myself. So um you know it just felt like a really good fit. Last season, after bouncing around between five different teams in five years, he settled in and his numbers stood out. Playing in 81 games for the Sens, potting a career-high 19 goals, and doing it all while averaging just 1025 time on ice per game. How did that happen? Mostly by sticking with it. I think that’s been one of my strong suits my whole career is um you know, the work ethic and and doing the right things um to get better. So, uh, you know, it it wasn’t anything new to me. I was, you know, always kind of been an underdog type and, um, people doubting and whatnot and, you know, but I know my capabilities and I know what I can do. So, I always believed in myself and, you know, I just trusted the process and kept my head down and kept working. It’s a 2-year contract for Gadet. He doesn’t have a lot of connections with the current core of San Jose players other than briefly being a teammate of Tyler Tofoley in Vancouver and hearing very good things about San Jose from Fabian Zetland who as you know went out to Ottawa last year. You should also know Gdet has represented team USA at the World’s Tournament also won the 2018 Hobie Baker which was a first for Northeastern University. The right shot forward should easily add some versatility and depth up front, plus the consistency of being an everyame player in the lineup for head coach Ryan Morsovski.

This was an interesting addition by GM Mike Grier, perhaps the best of many new faces for Sharks next year. Grier has been preaching "competive" earn your job or lose it to next man up hockey and he has finally created a pool of prospects and veterans that can actually do what he has been saying for 4 years. There are too many players and prospects trying to outdo each other and some will fail, especially second chance players or veterans trying to get back on track (a majority ofg such players continue to get worse, not better). The big question this year will be how to balance all the rookie talent with veterans not chronically injured and unable to keep up any more. MIke Grier seems to identify with this give-the-guy-another chance and don't give up philosophy which is not so common in NHL where players who blow it get benched and demoted and traded quickly rather than developed and nurtured. I hope his nurturing nature can heal this sorry Sharks and make them greater again, at least get back into playoffs for next 10 years. Not sure that veterans with chronic injuries get treated so well either, as Vlasic was bought out, but Grier did give him 2 years to try tyo heal and get back to form again, then gave up in l;ast year of his contract.
