[Yahoo] Bulls rumors: Josh Giddey’s ‘expected’ contract compromise after long standoff

We need to offer just enough that he doesn’t take the QO. If the league next year doesn’t have capspace either I agree with staying at 20m, but I need to check the books.
It would be insane if the Bulls caved into his demands. By now he surely has figured out that no other team in the league will offer him anything close to what he’s asking right now. Just take the guaranteed money, don’t be a Schroder. If Giddey is as good as he thinks he is, he’ll get the bag eventually.
Bulls front office in competent negotiation shock.
I read the source said something about a 3 year contract. And I feel bad about that.
We should rather give a 4+1/125m contract.
Why?
They believe in him? Yes.
Then they assume he is breaking out or developing into an AllStar type of guy? Guess so.
If he is breaking out in 26 or 27, you will see the Bulls in panic mode because they will be throwing next-to-max-possible money to Coby in 26 – and then have Giddey in the exact same situation that Coby was in this summer what is:
Giddey balling out on a lower scale contract in the next 2 years on 3 year deal would mean they need to max him after year 3 + the risk he might leave as a free agent.
Why? Not only can he have personal resentments after being low-balled – luckily we don’t have those feelings with Coby (because Coby is our guy and he never had a holdout like Giddey, who was only here 1 year) – but we simply could have a conflict with Buzelis, who’s rookie contract will be done by then.
And if Buzelis is becoming what we all hope, they have to max him out too by 2028.
That would end us up in Cobys big contract in year 2 of his max extension, Buzelis Rookie max extension and Giddeys max-extension.
We know not only that the Reinsdorfs will not spent luxury dollars but also that this Front Office is building their “9 to 10 good players” type of roster. You can’t pay 9 to 10 good players if 3 have a max contract.
They felt dead stuck with only LaVine having a max and DeMar and Vuc nowhere near a max level…
So: rather pay Giddey 25 for 5 years (last year a team option if possible) then having the problem of a 2 big contracts in 2027 and paying him then 50 over the 2 years in the 25m per year deal that we would pay him in case the stuff happens that they believe it happens.
And what if he doesn’t turn in to what the Bulls hoped? Well Giddey will get at least the next 2 years to show and nobody at the organization would stop believing in him for that window AT LEAST.
But let’s pretend he plays 2 years on that 4+1/125m deal and we figure out he doesn’t progress. He is what we saw now – then this is in year 3 (by the standards then) an absolute tradable contract.
Tldr:
There is no scenario where a 3 year Giddey contract is what we want. I will scream if that happens. Rather pay him more for two more years than being trapped later.
