We all know how bad he’s been this year at all aspect of the game and I don’t see it changing much next year he’s a GABP merchant in 24 .849 OPS there .660 OPS away and the rest of his career is in line with so is this is just him without a GABP a terrible hitter baserunner and fielder probably and making 7 mil in arb this year doesn’t help either

I was very excited about him when we traded for him but man….he’s just not it. Like I said in the game thread, it’s a 2-2 game tonight if he wasn’t playing
Yes. We can do much better. He was a good experiment but it’s time for another one.
Part of the problem was expecting too much from him and that’s on the front office, though. India is a good player, just not leadoff every day at any position good.
I’m actually not sure what he would make in final arbitration year. Usually we just assume it goes up. But they skipped arb and did a two year deal for first two years. Which turned out to be an overpay for what he’d actually have made.
His numbers don’t scream arbitration increase. So I think weirdly there is a chance he gets paid around the same $5m from this year, give or take.
I still think that’s an overpay and why I bashed the trade hard from the jump (drawing ire from many). But its also not a handicap on payroll.
The chance of a non-tender is in the single digit percentages based on who that historically happens to. So 9/10+ times they are just going to keep him.
The goal would obviously be to hope and pray he has two good months to start next season and you end up paying ~$2m for 70 games and the opportunity to hand pick a prospect from someone else for him. And if that fails then you eat the salary if its this bad again.
But another contributing factor is that Massey just simply can’t stay healthy. I legitimately believe with all his metrics (pull air% and all that) that an 800 OPS at 2B is extremely possible. But the dude can’t get through a rehab assignment without his back barking at him. So you sort of have to have India or someone else around for that reason.
Its a tough spot. But like I said, it was an absolutely idiotic trade from the jump. With my reason being that you could trade Brady for that at literally any point. Even today. Or this winter. The return for a Singer level player is India all day every day even for half a season. It made no sense to do that for two years. Never should have gone through with that idea and we wouldn’t be in a position to ask this question.
That would mean we got nothing for singer because we dfa’ed wiemer
His defense is what pisses me off the most
I don’t know, I think he’s better than his numbers indicate…but I also think he’s been (obviously) worse than he was in Cincinnati from what I saw of him there. I won’t be upset either way with what we do with him.
They won’t do it but man I would be ecstatic if they did. The guy is simply not a good baseball player.
This coaching staff will not improve his performance this year. They did not improve his performance this year. They won’t fix his issues at the plate or in the field. It’s not what they do. Move on to the next option.
He’s Frasier at this point, or Massey. Keep Whomever is cheapest
of the three.
Not an effective leadoff guy, at all
Not really effective at fielding any position
India is a bum, sadly 🙂↕️
Has cool hair though
I’m leaning towards yes, and I would also expect him to break out with his next team. It’ll make everyone mad, but the Royals tried to make him a player he never was (a utilityman) and failed.
I would like to move in from him asap. Liability in the field and at the plate.
After that Bad News Bears stunt last night he clearly as shown to be liability on defense.
I wouldn’t be opposed but there isn’t another option at 2B or 3B in the pipeline. Maybe a 2 year deal for Brandon Lowe or Gleyber Torres would make sense and keep Maikel at 3B.
