MLB LIVE🔴 Los Angeles Dodgers vs St. Louis Cardinals – Aug 5, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Welcome to Dodger Stadium. Tuesday baseball on the show. It’s the St. Louis Cardinals taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers. First pitch coming your way next. Welcome your Los Angeles Dodgers. Just about set to go now. And on the mound now, number 80. Chris, it’s a little more common these days, but still he’s a strikeout per inning type of guy. Well, I hear you about the strikeouts. a lot more guys striking out today. But when you consider having the ability to get that strike out, particularly when you need it, a man on third, less than two outs, situations where, yeah, maybe you’re not a real high strikeout guy, but just knowing you have the swing and missed stuff in a big spot, I think it’s real critical. And he’s got it. Flashes the leather on the run and catch. And there’s one down. Here’s a lineup now. This is an offense, Chris, that’s having a hard time scoring runs right now. Yeah, sometimes things just aren’t going to click and unfortunately what happens is players press, they try to do a little bit more and they get out of their game. You got to let the game come to you. If you chase it, it’s going to run from you. So, this is a team that just needs to calm down, relax, and understand that they’re going to come out of this. Ivon Herrera in the box here lets that one go for a ball. just missing off the plate there according to the umpire and out there on the mound maybe trying to get an explanation. Can’t say he’s convinced, but it looks like he’s accepted it. One out. Base is empty. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Foul ball still a one and two count. Ground ball up the middle and that one finds its way through. So, a man aboard now with one away. Boo. I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. One gone runner at first and the batter now, Alec Burlson. That one pulled foul. Burlson measures 6’2 in 225 lbs. And he’s usually a first baseman, but today he’s the designated hitter. Next pitch misses and it’s one and one. Some people say that first baseman kind of have the day off regularly because they don’t run around a whole lot, but when you think about it, they are involved in just about every single play and there’s a lot of stress that gets put on their legs. So, a welldeserved day at the DH spot. That one missed. Perrera the runner at first with one gone in the inning. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. And there’s two down. You know, you often think of sliders more for that horizontal movement, but most of the good ones have both vertical depth and that horizontal movement. And that’s what we saw right there. Good drop on the break and got him to swing over the top. And up to hit is Wilson Contrarus. And first offering is fouled off. Two outs. Line to left and he makes the catch and that’ll do it. The Cards leave one and now the Dodgers get a crack at it. No score. Back after this on the show. Back here in LA and for the Cardinals here this afternoon, it’s Miles Michael. What do we need to know here about the right-hander? Well, that whip is just below the league average and that’s a good thing in this case, not allowing too many base runners. So, on most days, he’s going to go out there and compete and put his team in a position to win. And I expect to see that from him in this one today. We go to the bottom of the first. Here’s Muki Betts. That one fouled off. Bets can claim something not many players can. He’s won the World Series playing in the National League and the American League. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. This one in the air center field. Scott on the move. He’s got it. And a quick out number one. Let’s take a look at our lineup. The home run a big part of the equation when it comes to this offense. Singi, they’re one of the better clubs in the league in terms of putting runs up via the homer. Yeah. And that makes them even more dangerous because they’re going to get their hits, but they’re also going to get those home runs and have runners on base, which is multiple runs out of one swing. So, yeah, you really have to try to manage a team like this and keep them contained. You can’t give up extra outs, whether that be via an error or a walk. James Outman batting with one down, takes a strike. Late swing, fouled to the left. Upstairs, ball one. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, you’ll look for something down in the zone, but not too far. Don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. Two gone now. Two down. Base is empty. The batter now will be Will Smith. Pitch misses there. And that is ball one. That one ripped but foul. Two out. Space is empty. fouls it off. Still one and two. Two down. Do on and a swing and a miss. And that’s that. Dodgers down in order. Scoreless after one. Back here at Dodger Stadium now. Here is Nolan Aronado. Aronado. Right through there for a strike. Oh, one. That one is upstairs. Larry Bullard making the calls behind the plate for us in this one. Pretty good strike zone. Well reviewed by those we talked to around the league. Yeah, he’s an umpire. He doesn’t get a lot of looks from players. Maybe here and there once in a while, but he’s appreciated back there. One and two now. Swings and misses. It’s a strike out. Chase the fast up the ladder for strike three. No messing around with the pitch calling in that sequence right there. Four pitches, all fast balls. Yeah, and that makes me think that was the plan before the at bat even started. If you think you can simply just beat a guy with only your fastball, why throw him anything else until he shows you he can handle it? And stepping in for the Cardinals, Johel Poso. And that one a little below the knees and it’s one and0 and a foul ball. No score here in the second inside and it’s two and one. hard ground ball base knock. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Batting seventh, right fielder Jordan Walker. Now it’s the right fielder Jordan Walker. Really strong hitting performance recently, batting over 300 so far this month. And a strike in there. Poso stands at first with one out. Now one and one. That one drifts inside. Hit in the air out to center field. Pah puts it away for the out. And there’s two away. Batting eight, shortstop, Thomas Saji. Now up for St. Louis. Thomas Sajay-Z that misses the zone and that’s ball one. The shorts stop takes a ball. That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one. Two gone, but the go ahead run is at first here in the top of the second. Ground ball left side. Third out that ends the frame. So one left for the Cardinals. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. Back here at Chavez Ravine, bottom of the second. Now here is Freddy Freeman Freeman. Very humble guy and you know on the field off the field and he goes about his at bats in that way. Boog. He’s you know just trying to stay with the plan and that plan is hit the ball to left center field, drive the ball that way, let it travel. Yep. the line of the pitch. Love how vocal the umpire is today. No doubt in the hitter’s mind, catcher’s mind, and even the pitcher’s mind as to the conviction in the call. Fans, another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Quick three pitch strike out. And you look at the sequence, the plan was clearly to work him inside. Didn’t want to let him get his arms extended, make him a little bit uncomfortable in there. and he ended up overmatching him in the process. That’s one you have to take note of as a hitter for next time you come to the plate. And now Tayscar Hernandez that misses ball one. One down, base is empty. That one finds the zone and the count one and one. Little chopper rolls foul. That missed by a lot. Two and two. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. make it four strikeouts in a row. Just cruising along. Oh, he’s really dialed in and this offense is going to have to do something to try to break that rhythm. Maybe it’s square around the bond, step out of the box, agitate him a little bit, do something that just changes what’s happening right now because at this pace it’s going to be a long game. So, you got to figure it out quickly. Andy Pah in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Next offering is in for a strike. Quickly down 02 in the count. I think you got to choke up a little bit. Spread out the feet. You don’t know what the velocity or the location of this next pitch is going to be. Two outs. That missed inside and the count is one and two in the air right field. Walker and makes the play and that’s out number three. So no runs, no hits, no errors and no one left. We head on now to the top of the third. No score. And welcome back to the ballpark. Well, here we go. Top of the third scoreless game. And now Victor Scott. First pitch. Not close. Fast ball for a strike. Next offering is outside. Fouls one off. Two and two. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Oh, that’s a really good pass to the ball right there. Just a little bit too quick. He’s got to find a way. Just let it travel a hair more. Cut out a miss. Drop him out. That K is his third of the game. Now batting second. Back to the top of the lineup. And here’s the St. Louis leadoff man, Brendan Donovan. He’s 0 for one and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Top of the third, no score. And now the count is even. Next offering misses down and away. Missed with a change up and now three and one. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count and the right-handers 3-1. swing and a pop off in foul ground. Squeezes it and there’s two away. Now batting left fielder Ivon Herrera. And now it’s Ivon Herrera. One for one with a single so far. And there’s a ball. That’s to third. Lays out, but he can’t squeeze it. The throw is late and they can’t get the out. So, two down. Here’s the Cardinal DH. Alec Burlson. He was a strikeout victim his first time. That one’s in there. Go and one. Here off of first with two away. And now it’s even up. One ball, one strike. Next offering is fouled back. Well, you put good velocity in the head of the hitter. He’s got to get it ready early and then change speeds. Keep him off balance. That’s the goal. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. One hit, one left. We head now to the home half of inning number three. We’re tied nothing nothing as we go to the last of the third. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Michael Conorto. Michaelus back to work. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. Base knock right for you around first and hustling for second. They’re still chasing it as he rounds second. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Runner at third. Nobody out. Miguel Rojos at the plate. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season, so they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. And that is out of play. Just missed. No outs. Runner over at third. Base hit center field. Run scores easily and it’s one- nothing. Big swing of the bat right there to give him the lead. That was clutch. You often hear the phrase short to it, long through it. And that’s a great example of it right there. They got the barrel in the hitting zone early, squared it up with the welltimed swing and came away with a beautiful line drive into center field. So digging in, Alex Freeland fouled off left side. Here comes the one swing and a miss. Threw that fast right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. Nice stop and very nicely done for the out. Look at how he dives right there. He’s able to pop up to both knees. Not enough time to get to his feet, but he threw a cannon across the diamond to get the runner. Here’s Mooki now. That one finds the zone. One and one. Betts is definitely one of those guys that excels at everything he does. Boo, in terms of baseball, he can do it all. He’s won World Series, batting titles, gold gloves, and everything else you can think of. That one hooked foul. Look out. That ball was smoked. Man, I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line just to ensure safety for the fans. Last thing is a player you want to look up and see a fan get hit. Just misses the mark outside the zone. Was good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. on the outside corner. Got him looking. Just locked him up right there for the second out. And that’s the bat he’s probably going to be thinking about for a little while. Didn’t pull the trigger. Not how you want to go down in an RBI spot. So now you got to hope your teammate behind you can pick you up. James Outman steps to the plate for the Dodgers. Went down on strikes. his first time through that catches the outside corner. It’s 0 and one. Runner at second. Two down here in the last half of the third. And that one wrapped foul. and ball one. Really good take, especially with two strikes. This one lifted in the air left field. Herrera right there to make the grab. And the inning is over, but they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back here in LA out of the fourth and here’s the first baseman, Wilson Contrarus. That’s in there. Strike one. Contrarus goes 6’1, 32 years old, and he was born in Venezuela. There’s a strike. outside low and a count. One and two and delivers outside. Two two swing and a miss. Struck him out. Here’s Nolan Aronado. His first at bat was a strike out. Outside and that’s ball one. The Redbirds trailing by a run. Top half of inning number four. That one’s in there and now it’s even one and one. way out front for strike two. Clearly was sitting on a fast right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes. Got him. And that’s six for him in this one. Well, pitchers have become so much better at commanding that high fast. Well, it used to be that a lot of pitchers didn’t like to throw it because it throw off their release point and their mechanics and they’re aimed at keeping everything at the knees, get ground balls. But because hitters get a swing path that can lift balls at the knees up in the air and over the fence, this pitch has come back into play and they are doing some special things with it. And first off is fouled off. No, that’s a ball. One and one. Center field. Pahes settles underneath it and that is that. So they make short work of him there. On now to the bottom of the fourth. It’s the Dodgers one and the Cardinals nothing. And we’re back. John Chami and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Will Smith. swing and a highf fly ball. Well struck. That one is back. Holds it in on the warning track. Definitely didn’t get all of that one, but man, the wind almost pushed it over the fence and left. Here is Freddy Freeman. struck out swinging his first time. Here’s a fun fact. Dodger Stadium was also the home of the Los Angeles Angels for 4 years in the 1960s while they waited for Anaheim Stadium to be built. When the Angels were playing games at home, instead of Dodger Stadium, they called it Chavez Ravine Stadium. Bases empty, one away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth and a swing and a miss. So he picks up his sixth strike out of the ball game. Oh, nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there. Just a low 90s fast ball and I’m not sure he was trying to challenge him, but that’s pretty much what happened. Very hitable location, but he found a way to just get it by him. Hernandez in the box now as he looks at ball one. Second played appearance of the day for him. delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. One, one strike. Right through there for a strike. A onew count. All he’s seen is fast balls. You’ve got to expect something off speed. Stay back. And now two and two. That one missed. Andy Pahus waiting to bat for the Dodgers. Two down. Doon. Tea Oscar goes down on strikes. So they go quietly there. We played four. It’s the Dodgers one and the Cardinals nothing. back here at Dodger Stadium. And now the right fielder, Jordan Walker. That one finds the zone. And that’s strike one. Action in the pen down there. Showi Otati, a right-hander with big strikeout stuff, is getting it fired up. Trying it, a hard throwing right-hander up as well. And that one is lifted in the air. Hernandez settles underneath it. One up, one down. Up next for the Cardinals, shortstop, Thomas Thomas. Next up for the Cardinals. Nasty pitch right there. Strike one. The Dodgers leading by a run. They were in the top of the fifth. The O2 just misses with that one. Really nice slider right there. Sweeping across the dish, but just couldn’t hang the edge. And down on strikes. Picks up strikeout number seven. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. Now it’s going to be Victor Scott. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. Just missed. And a breaking ball misses outside. Next offering is fouled back. And that misses and that’s ball three. Oh, they have had a hard time scoring in this one. The pitcher out there on the mound wants to keep attacking. Make sure that they don’t get any confidence. CA strikes him out for the second time today. Nothing doing there for St. Louis and it remains one- nothing back here at Chavez Ravine. And here is Andy P. Andy Pahz. And the first offering a fast ball for a strike in the air pretty deep out to center field. Scott makes the catch and there’s one gone. Now batting left fielder. The batter will be Michael Conforto. One for one. He tripled in his first trip. That one lined in left field. That’s base hit. So a man aboard now with one away. Now batting second base Miguel. Up next, Miguel Rohos singled and drove in a run his first time through. Hit on the ground to the right side and that’s just foul. And that’s outside and one and one. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away. Run around on the move. The 1-1 is fouled off. Swing and a miss. Struck him out of the slider and there’s two gone. Oh, when you throw the same pitch back to back, that’s how you want to do it. Set him up in the strike zone, then extend a little bit from there and see if you can get him to chase. Nicely done with the slider right there. Alex Freeland will hit next. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Confor the runner at first with two gone. That one finds the zone. Strike one. This one in the air. Contras. He’s got it. And that will end the inning. So the Dodgers lead one, but they lead it one to nothing. We’re back and they make a change to start the sixth. The new pitcher show Otan. He’s doing the ball very well overall this season. He’s been really tough to get to. You see that RA and that’s where you love to be. Back to the leadoff spot the St. Louis lineup. Brendan Donovan down at the plate. 0 for two in this one. That misses. One and0. One and0. And another ball. Activity in the bullpen for the Dodgers. Alexis Diaz looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Fonda the lefty warming up as well. Two and one now. That one lifted to left. Conoro brings it in. One away. And up next for St. Louis, Ivon Herrera. He’s two for two. All right, sing. You know him a dork. Show Otani. Go back to May 5th, 2022 at Fenway Park. He tossed a complete game through 99 pitches. Get this, 81 strikes. It was the most strikes thrown with less than 100 pitches in a game since they started tracking pitch counts. That’s just unreal. Last couple of pitches breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. Not close with that one. Three and O. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. grounds one to short. Bats up with it. Whips it to first. He’s out. Oh, here we talk about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Alec Burlson. That’s a strike. If he doesn’t get a knock right here, that pitch he just took is going to eat at him for a while. You might not see another pitch like that from a top level guy like this. And it’s one and one. One ball, one strike. That’s a little bit low. That one misses. Three balls and a strike. Wilson Contrus up next for the Cardinals. And that one popped in the air left field. And that is that. Nothing across here this half. Top of the order. Two up in the home half of the six. It’s the Dodgers one and the Cardinals nothing. Bottom of the sixth inning. Here’s Muki. Now Chris baseball today so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers. But this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. That’s a book. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. Two and0 to Cal. Here it comes. Sing. One of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swing and miss from an offensive standpoint anymore. So when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this, do you think of that as plus value? Absolutely. If he’s doing damage now, if he’s rolling over and and grounding out, then it’s a different story. But yeah, if he can put the ball in the gaps or over the fence, 100%. Gets a piece and stays alive. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. Now batting. So now here’s the DH James Outman and first offering is fouled off. One down, base is empty. Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins, the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter, the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter. Swaying and a ball popped in the air and that’s a fair ball. Now he turns and heads for second. The throw in. safe at second. Great effort out there as he tries to reach and haul this one in, but just can’t extend far enough. I think it started with a bad read off the bat which led to a bad jump, bad angle, and that cost him right there. Extra bases. One out, runner at second. Will Smith to the plate. Swing and a highf fly ball to left. Herrera settles under this one. They got it for out number two. Now batting the first baseman, Freddy Freeman. Here comes Freddy Freeman up to hit who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. He gets the intentional walk here and now a force at any base with two gone. Well, it doesn’t get much easier with this next batter, but I totally understand going with the intentional walk in that spot. He’s just too dangerous at the plate right now. And there’s a base open, so it gives you options defensively to get it out. Hernandez up to it for the third time as he lays off inside ball one. Action in the St. Louis bullpen. Phil Mod getting loose out there. Gray also getting ready. And there’s a foul ball. Outman at second. Freeman at first. Two out of the inning. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. Swinging a ball hammered left field. That’s down. One hops off the wall and he boots it. Headed to the plate. He’ll score. Two runs are in and they lead by three. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the at being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. That’s a good sound coming off the bad man. And as he connected out front, lifted into the outfield. That’s one of those swings where you just don’t even feel the ball hit the barrel. That’s a pure stroke. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Miles Michaelus is done and a nice effort out of him. No doubt. New arm coming on. We’ll be back for that in a moment. Now pitching for the pitcher out here, Sunny Gray. And he’s been hit pretty hard at times this year. So he’s looking for better right now. Giving up more than a hit per inning. Andy Pahes steps to the plate for the Dodgers. In for a strike 0 and one. Runner at second. Two down here in the bottom of the six. And that’s off the inside edge. One and one. And there’s a ball. That’s a ball. And that one fouled off. Man on second, two down. Three balls. He’s great. Michael Conforto up next for the Dodgers. So now two on and two outs. How big a deal is that walk? I don’t think it’s a big deal because if you pitch to the previous hitter with the power he has, he can hit a home run. I think it was a calculated walk. We’ll see how it pays off here. Hammered base hit coming home. He’ll score. comes through with the RBI. Challenged him with the fast ball right in the heart of the zone and he was clearly ready to jump all over it. First and second, two outs. Miguel Rojos steps to the plate for the Dodgers. Yeah, that’s fouled off. got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. Oh, two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field. Donovan makes the play. That is the inning. So they get three runs on three hits, no errors, but two are left stranded. We’re through six full. It’s the Dodgers four and the Cardinals nothing. Top of inning number seven. Wilson Contrarus now up to the plate. Leading off for St. Louis. First baseman Wilson Contraras. Otani back to work and first offering is fouled off and that one fouled off. Now a high-fly ball out to left center. Pahus on his way over and makes the grab and there’s one down. Now batting third baseman Nolan Aronado. Here’s Nolan Aronado. check swing now to look down to first and that’s going to be ruled a swing. One down, base is empty. Tap foul at the plate to the right side. Rojos fires over to first and they get Aronado for the out. Up next for the Cardinals, catcher Joel Poso. Two outs, space is empty. And now the catcher comes up to him. Yoel Poso one for two. And there’s the strike. No, this manager knows that his players are just trying to do too much. Everybody needs to just take a deep breath, relax, and let it naturally happen. That one is absolutely belted. That’s back there. And that one is going to go. Home run number five on the season. And they inch closer. It’s 4-1. That swing just injected more drama into this one. There was a cutter away. Kind of works like a slider. You got to stay on it. Let it travel a little bit and then get your arms extended. Really good piece of hitting right there. Two outs, nobody on. And now it’s going to be Jordan Walker swinging a miss. 0 and one. 0 and one. Two outs. Ball on there. One and one. Late that time. And it’s strike two. One ball. Two strike. And he chases that one. Out number three. Cards claw back a bit on the homer. It’s now 4-1. Back here in LA. And now it’s switch hitting third baseman Alex. It’s Freeland that misses off the outside edge. You know, these Dodgers digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. We’ve already seen eight line drives from them. And it’s always a good sign when the ball is jumping off your bat. And that’s what this offense has been doing so far today. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Three balls, no strikes. Called strike right there. Swinging a foul straight back. up the middle. Donovan throws to first and they get the lead off hitter in the seventh. Now batting shorts stop Mookie Betts. Here’s Mookie Betts now. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. Check swing. Did he go? No, he didn’t. Base is empty, one away here. The bottom of the seventh. Here’s a swing and a drive left field. And he knew it. Mookie bets one out. His 12th of the season. And they tack on to their lead. It’s 5-1. And that shot makes their grip on the lead even tighter. We’ll do you one better than a tape measure by breaking out the numbers from Stackcast. The distance 450 ft on the dock. Oh my goodness. And that’s one boo. You’re going to see it making the rounds on social media all night long and all the highlight shows as well. I know I’m going to be watching on a loop. That was absolutely crushed. And first offering is fouled off. There’s a swing and a drive and that should be extra bases. Makes the turn and heads for second. in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. Well, that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the ball straight to it. That’s great work right there. One out, runner at second. And up next for Los Angeles, Will Smith 0 for three with two flyyous and a strikeout. That’s off the inside corner and it’s one and0. Part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. Outman the runner at second with one away and fast ball misses outside for a ball and it’s two and 0. just off the inside edge. Good pitchers make pitches in big situations. And right here with a middle of the order hitter up, runner in scoring position, he’s got to find a way to throw a quality strike. Foul ball there. And that clips the inside corner. Careful. Caught him looking for the K. Freddy Freeman up to the dish and a pair of strikeouts. strike on the inside corner. It’s 0 and one. Not many hitters go up there looking for an O breaking ball, but a good way for the pitcher to get ahead in the count. That one is hammered right field. This one’s got a chance. And that one is off the wall and he’s in at second with a two out double. Runner from second crosses the play. And the lead is up to five. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Anytime you smoke a ball off the wall, you kind of think about what it could have been, but obviously you have to be happy with that result. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Sunny Gray will depart and he’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. now pitching for. So they turn things over to the righty Bill Mah. The offense will need to be ready for the breaking stuff. He’s got a great curveball. Here’s Tosscar Hernandez. And a curve is down and in. Ruer at second. Two down. In for a strike and the count even at one. on the ground. Aronado. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. So, two runs on three hits, including the home run. No errors and one left on base. We look ahead to inning number eight. It’s the Dodgers six and the Cardinals one. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Blake trying. He last pitched two days ago. Number 49. The batter will be the shortstop Thomas and that gets the inside corner for a strike. Trinan is what you’re looking for in a good reliever. The ball stays in the ballpark. It’s so hard to square him up. Oh, one down and it’s fouled away. Yeah, he stays out of the middle and in and pitches either at the bottom, at the top, on the edges. And because of that, if you do get it in the air, it’s usually just a highfly ball and when it’s down in the zone, it’s on the ground. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Alex Via looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Diaz, the right-hander, also getting loose. That’s a ball. Tried the sweeper. He’s so consistent that the manager basically could look at it like he’s got three outs sitting in his pocket. That shortens the game. That’s out to center field. Pah makes the grab. One away. When he takes the mound, you feel like, hey, this inning is wrapped or this ball game is over. He’s just that good. And you can see it in opposing hitters as well. Now the batter now Victor Scott and first offering is fouled off. They know when he comes in pretty much forget about it. Kind of reminds me of Mariano Rivera. The one late with the swing there. The Dodgers leading by five and we’re in the top of the eighth. Next one misses. Now one and two. Line drive and it stays fair now. He’ll turn for second. Not stopping. He’s going for three. The relay throw. The tag and he’s out trying for three. Absolutely perfect execution of the relay right there to cut him down to third. And he probably should have shut it down at second base and been happy with the double, but it took a great play to get him. You just have to tip your cap. And now Brendan Donovan 0 for three in this one. And that one clips the corner. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. And that’s the third out. ready for the bottom of the eighth. Here’s the center fielder, Andy Pahes. Clips the outside corner. That’s strike one. Movement in the bullpen. A right-hander appears to be getting loose. Good job to fight that one off. And that’s ruled a swing. It’s a strike out. Up next for the Michael will climb in. Three for three. He’s got a pair of singles and a triple. And that’s in there for strike one. One ball, one strike. Next offering is fouled back. fights that one away. Still one and two. Oh, you got it. And that one just missed off the outside edge. That’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Swinging a ground ball. They’ll throw to first. Two up, two down. Now batting second baseman Miguel Roas. Two down, base is empty. Here’s the second baseman, Miguel Rojas. Swings through that one for strike one. No ball. One strike. That one pushed foul. I wouldn’t say the game’s close right now, but it’s not out of reach either. I mean, these guys really need to put up a zero on the board just to maintain a little hope. Cut on and lifted in the air. It gets down a base hit. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Now batting third base now the third base. Alex Freeland to the right side dives but it kicks off his glove. No throw and he reaches safely. And now batting shorts stop Mookie Bets. First and second, two outs. Mookie Betts will make his way to the plate. He’s already homered here in this one. And that one lifted in the air center field. Scott puts it away and that ends the inning. Dodgers strand a couple. They still lead it though 6-1. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Alex Via. He’s got some of the best swing and miss stuff going right now. He’s striking out hitters at a very high rate this year. So, this should be fun to watch. Via. Here at the plate and takes high there. The Dodgers bullpen with some action. Number 70 looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Number 78 warming up as well. The one swing and a miss. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. And a base hit right there. Had a good start to the inning. Oh, this has been a really nice game at the plate for him. He looks locked in. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages, working on going to the opposite field, and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did, and he did it perfectly. Burlson in the box now. No balls in a strike. Well, the laidoff man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully, the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. You’ll one that one fouled off. Here the board here at first with nobody out. Fouls it back with two strikes. gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Battling here as he fouls it away and they’ll do it again. Next pitch is downstairs. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. Stays alive. swing and a miss and he is down on strikes for the third straight at bat. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count and as a pitcher it really allows you to start expanding the zone. hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. They say away. No ball too straight. Off the mark there. Now one and two. Two straight man at first. One away. One, two to Contreras. Very high with that one. Now two and two foul ball left side. He’ll see another popped up. Freeland makes the catch for the two down. That was a good hard basketball with some nice ride up in the zone right there. looked like he was on it, but I think that velocity at the end just beat him instead of a line drive or something hit deep. It’s a pop up and an easy out for the defense. Aronado stands in now, looks at that one inside. Boo, the runner at first, needs to be careful right here. He’s dealing with a pickoff artist on the mound. Two outs. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Throw in holds the lead. Runner at second. Two on now with two away. Joel Yoel Poso next up for the Cardinals. He’s already homerred in this game. And that one misses up and in. And that is ball one. And another ball. Tough spot right here. Couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Swing and a liner. Foul off to the right. Two aboard, two outs. They’re down to their final strike. Go shoot. Visia is just one strike away. Hit to right and that should do it. And that is the ball game. Whether you’re a season ticket holder or you just come to a couple of games a year to see your team win at home, there’s just something special about that. Good job by this team to get it done for the hometown fans. 6-1 is your final here today. Dave Roberts and company celebrate in the dugout. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon. What the move?
