Minnesota Vikings Training Camp Notes: Practice #11 – Hump Day
What’s going on, Jeromes? We are in the thick thic of the dog days of training camp. Vikings first preseason game is on Saturday. Saturday. Saturday. Uh Vikings got two more practices before then. Well, one more if you count today. Uh so Vikings back at TCO. Wednesday practice. Talk about practice. That’s right, man. Uh but JJ McCarthy is feeding the local media jackals right now saying that he’s super hyped up about playing on Saturday as well as Jud sort of snitched about uh McCarthy’s mobility. He’s like trying to keep that quiet, all that stuff, right? But JJ McCarthy overall had a decent practice. Uh there there was a lot of highs there there was a low certainly and also the the other quarterbacks stepped up nicely too given the circumstances. So uh practice number 11. Talk about practice. uh Hawinson uh back on the practice field in full pads. Uh was limited participant but easing him back in from his hip, his leg, his back injury. Uh center Ryan Kelly elbow participated in the walkthrough portion of practice. Uh then you had Michael Jurgens as your center one uh in hisstead. Uh outside linebacker Gabe Murphy got dinged up but returned in full. It’s good to see. Uh McCarthy connected with Addison on several balls again. Basically, the entire training camp has been about uh McCarthy and Jordan Addison. Like Addison, gota respect him, man. Yeah, the three game suspension is coming, but Addison’s been playing out of his gourd all all training camp. He’s playing like a true wide receiver one. And I I feel like he definitely has a chip on his shoulder because a lot of people are poo pooing on him uh because of the suspension last two off seasons. Uh and he’s focused. He’s matured and he wants to prove that he’s wide receiver well because let’s get paid. Right. And also the guarantees in his rookie deal got voided which is interesting. Yeah. Uh but MacArthur, like we said, did have one one huge low. Uh got intercepted by Cman. It was a late throw to Addison over the middle and it was a bit of a breakdown of things and it was a late throw. It was behind Addison and it was just right, you know, right in Cashman’s kitchen. Um it was it was a tough catch, but still just can’t have late offtarget over the middle throws. No, can’t can’t have that JJ. Uh but a as we’ve highlighted like one of the things that we love about JJ is that he doesn’t get down on himself doesn’t spiral because the very next play uh very next rep of his uh immediate touchdown to the Thomas who you got some reps with the ones because uh Jaylen Naylor uh did miss a couple snaps. Not sure what’s going on there. Uh so Lucky Jackson and The Thomas were with the ones. Interesting. Also, uh, rookie Diamond Jackson, some solid reps and one-on- ons, uh, as well as did some good work, uh, with 11s, also with 11s. Uh, Christian Darasaw played the majority of first team reps with 11. So, the Vikings have slowly been ramping him up. Like, he was back last week with 11s, but it was in limited capacity, and then he had two practices off, and now he’s back. Like, the progression is good. It’s good to see. Also, Sam Hal bounced back from our criticism of our countrymen and had a couple of solid throws. Did some really good work. Uh hooked up with a nice ball to Rondale Moore over uh the man the early Earl of Egan Dwight Nud Mcloth. Also LDR rotated in with the first team defense. So, it’s kind of interesting because uh initially like you know second team defense rotating. It was T Jaylen Redmond. So, nice to see LDR getting some reps there. Hopefully he can make the most of it. And he he’s one of the guys that preseason and joint practice going to be huge. It be it’ll be great. Also, Isaiah Rogers Rogers had a couple nice uh pass breakups uh during practice, notably a nice one on Addison in seven on sevens. And it’s not how the national media drone haircuts predicted, but Rogers is causing interceptions for the Vikings offense. Um also incompletions. Yeah. Uh, also uh outside linebacker Diamond Dallas Surum. He just looks quick, man. Like just heat-seeking missile out there. And whether it’s 11s, whether it’s one-on- ones, it’s not sevens. Yeah. Uh, but he he just looks he just looks different this year. So, he added size and he the the quickness, the bend, the speed, the length, everything. Like he he’s playing like a man who is pissed off. Uh he’s playing like a man who had 240k stolen from him. Don’t know. Don’t know. Uh Naylor, like we said, missed some snaps. Should be fine. Uh Darasaw is back like we said. And then to wrap up practice, just that little at the end where it’s like you have a round of golf and you play like crap all day, but then you just hit that one shot at the end like like you make one birdie at the end like like you hole out from 75 yards and you’re just like that’s why we play the game. Uh Bromer just a gorgeous sideline throw to Dante Fleming. He’s had a nice camp in his own right uh right at the end of practice. Also, you know, when we talk about guys like like Dante Fleming, uh guys like Miles Price rising on up where these reps are important because do they have a chance to make the 53? Probably not. But do they could they make the practice squad? Yes. and making the practice squad on your rookie season. I it’s really important because then you you get to spend an entire year for the most part with this coaching staff. They get to see you every day how you work with the scout team, how you could how how you uh control yourself as a professional, how you can be part of this team, right? And you know, guys have done that gone from undrafted practice squad 53 star CJ Ham, the Marvis Mark Cheryls, Adam Thielen, that that’s been their progression. So, I mean, don’t take these guys lightly because, you know, four or five years down the road, Miles Price, Dante Fleming, Logan Brown might might be huge contributors. Zamaya Vaughn, uh Tyler Baddy, well, Tyler in four or five years, Tyler Batty would be 30. So, I don’t know. All right, so it does matter. Oh, we need to update Alex Williams. He He’s on IR, season ending IR for the Vikings, but we have his rights. So, there you go. Anyways, that’s it. That’s Vikings training camp practice number 11. Let us know your thoughts. Our thoughts comment section. You guys are the best. You know what to do. Skull production value.
