MLB LIVE🔴 Los Angeles Dodgers vs St. Louis Cardinals – Aug 6, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
just about set to go. And today on the hill, Blake Snell. Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Ready to go now. It’s the second baseman, Brendan Donovan. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. First pitch 110. Next offering is fouled back. And that’s in the dirt. One ball, two strikes. outside corner. Got him looking. Oh, you know that’s got to be very frustrating for this guy. He knows the strike zone extremely well. And you know what? Good hitters are not going to compromise. He’ll take that punch out, but ultimately stick with his plan and have more success than anything else. And now it’s Ivon Herrera. And that is downstairs. And that is ball one. Snell. He gets a lot of swing and miss. And he keeps the ball in the yard. Not to mention the fact not too many hits either. Ripped, but it curls foul. Even some of the best guys in the sport are going to give up home runs from time to time. And he’s an exception. Yeah. And even with those home runs, if you’re throwing strikes and keeping base runners off the paths, then those home runs are solo shots. But to this point, he hasn’t had to worry about it. Let’s take a look at our lineup. This team can really pile up the runs, Chris. They’re among the top teams in scoring this year. Yeah. And when you can get a lead and be out in front, it really changes what that opposing manager can do with the bullpen. And on top of that, it helps your own pitching staff. It gives them more margin for error. So instead of pitchers squeezing the ball, trying to throw darts and be perfect, they can relax, let the ball come out of their hands, and pitch effectively. So that offense and the ability to score runs also helps the pitching and the defense. Just missed. You look at what the elite pitchers do. They strike hitters out, they limit walks, and they limit the ball going out of the park. And a big swing and a miss. Yeah. All you want is a guy like that. Take the ball every fifth day. go out there, hand it over to the bullpen perhaps in the seventh inning or later. That’s too low. Three and one now. That one down the line and foul ball. Two outs. Base is empty. on the ground to the left and that’s just foul outside and that is ball four. It wasn’t easy but he earned that walk after a long at bat. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Snell, 32 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. Burlson leads off first with two down to the inning. And another balling. Next offering is in for a strike. Swinging a foul straight back. Well, lots of pitches thrown in this first inning. It’s kind of that nightmare scenario for starting pitching. But you know what? It’s still early enough. He can settle in. He can get some length if he just cleans up his mechanics a little bit. And now it’s filled up. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. And ball four, two aboard. Two walks in the first has to be some cause for concern. You’re talking about a guy you want to pitch deep into the ball game. It’s not going to help with the pitch count right there. They can’t afford to hand out free bases at this rate. Lars Nbar in the box now. No balls in a strike. First and second, two down. that 95 to finish him off. So, they’re able to work around a pair of walks in the inning and now the Dodgers get a crack at it. No score. Back here with my pal Singi and towing the slab in this one, Michael McGrevy. Bill, you know, this guy wants to be better than that. I mean, the ERA is bloated. He understands that he’s got to put his team in a better position to win ball games. And at this point, you have to forget about your own individual stats and you have to go out there and attack and try to get that W. And if you do that, you’ll look up and most likely that erra will have dropped over time. And that one fouled off. Betts is definitely one of those guys that excels at everything he does. Boo, in terms of baseball, he can do it all. He’s won World Series batting titles, gold gloves, and everything else you can think of. Tap foul at the plate. Turns and fires the bats. The rare K for Mooki. Well, pitchers have become so much better at commanding that high fast. It used to be that a lot of pitchers didn’t like to throw it because it throw off their release point and their mechanics and they’re aimed at keeping everything at the knees, get ground balls. But because hitters get a swing path that can lift balls at the knees up in the air and over the fence, this pitch has come back into play and they are doing some special things with it. Alex Call in the box with one away as he takes ball one. One out. Base is empty. right through there for a strike. Now pitching for number 35 is forced to the mound after the injury. He’s into the game and the base is empty. Come on. Drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. And in one hops the wall and he starts his afternoon off right with a double. Everything came together for him. pretty much just a textbook double into the gap. And when you can drop one in there between the outfielders, you know you’re making the turn at first. Just an excellent swing. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Freddy Freeman up to the dish. Another solid power season. Top of the zone for a strike. 0 and one. Come on. And that’s downstairs and outside. One and one. That clips the inside corner for a strike. Runner at second here. One gone. runs it up to 96 to record the punch out. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. And now Tay Oscar Hernandez had a foul ball. The pitch and that’s in for a strike. 0 and two. Tea Oscar goes down on strikes. Onto the second now from Dodger Stadium. No score. Second inning, set to go. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Mason Win. Snell back to work. And that one off the outside edge and a foul ball. Bunch attempt but that goes foul. One and two now. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. That one ran inside. Almost got him. Straighten him up a little bit. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. Got him looking. That K is his third of the game. Here’s Nolan Gorman. And first off is fouled off. No score here in the second. That one missed. And that’s a pitch early in this game. He needs called for a strike. Struggling with command issues. He’s got to get a little help from the umpire. Gary Simmons has the plate duty in this one. Well, with Simmons, it’s not always your standard strike zone boo. kind of gives a little extra in some parts of the zone and then can be tighter in others. But I think the important thing is he doesn’t get labeled as inconsistent. So you got to stay ready up there. Slepty matchup things not going so well. Catcher Pedro Pah. Yeah. One of those umpires you just have to know what to expect, right? Exactly. Man at first. Pedro Pah. Next up for the Cardinals. Foul ball there. Punch him out. That one the other way. They got it for out number two. They couldn’t have asked for a better out. Makes a great play on the line drive and they keep the runner at first. Just like that. They’re almost out of the inning. Victor Scott the next to hit. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball and that one clips the corner. Man, that pitch was dotted. So much talent on display when this guy’s out there on the hill. Off the mark there. One and one. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. Two outs. Got him. But he’s notched four strikeouts now. The Cards leave one. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. back here in LA. And now Michael Conorto Michael Conorto that is upstairs for ball one. fouled off. He was late. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. And that’s downed away. Let’s go Michael. Come on. This one popped up. Donovan. Hauls it in for the out. Batting six, center fielder Andy Pah. And now the center fielder Andy Pahes. First pitch just misses. And another ball. And a foul ball makes the count two and one on the ground and it goes just foul. Come on, Los Angeles. Still two and two after the foul ball. Outside with a breaking ball right through there. Got him. and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter and I’m sure that’s going to sit on him for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Alex Freeland stands in with two away as he takes a ball. All right, next offering in there for a strike. And now it’s even one and one. Swing and a line drive and a base hit up the middle and that extends the inning. Dalton rushing steps to the plate for the Dodgers. Yeah, that’s fouled off. And that’s way high and one and one. Freeland off of first with two away. Next offering is in for a strike. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. One left for LA. We’ll move to the third with no score back here at Chavez Ravine. Now it’s going to be Brendan Donovan. Swinging a foul straight back on the ground right side and that’s a foul ball. Good job to fight that one off. The 02 fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. And down on strikes he goes. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. No, that’s not the best two strike fast I’ve seen, but it certainly got away with the location there. You know, sometimes as a hitter when you’re down in the count, you’re so focused on a pitcher painting the black and you just get a little bit locked up on something down the heart of the plate, not expecting it, and it just kind of freezes you. Little bit low and it’s one and one. That one missing inside. Top of the third, no score. A dive. Nice stop. Throw to first and they get the out. Great cat-like reflexes right there. Lays out, knocks the ball down, and then fires with that rocket arm all the way across the diamond. Man, put this guy on the mound. So, two down now. And here is Alec Burlson at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. 0 and one and misses inside. Highfly ball out to left field. Confordo nabs it and that is that. Home half of the third coming up. No score. Back here at Dodger Stadium. Set for the bottom of the third. Miguel Roas at the plate. Miguel Roas. There’s the strike. And a strike in there. fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him full. Mookie Betts will make his way to the plate. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. He made him pay for that one and the Dodgers have the lead. It’s one- nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat boo. Aggressive and it paid off. He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. They typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the lock, and gets the home run. Next to hit, Alex call doubled his first time up. That one close. Rule the ball. One and0. One down. Base is empty. And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Two down. That was a good hard fast ball with some nice ride up in the zone right there. hitter looked like he was on it, but I think that velocity at the end just beat him instead of a line drive or something hit deep. It’s a pop up and an easy out for the defense. Freeman stands in here, takes ball one low, two down, base is empty, but one run across here in the last half of the third. in the air left field down the line flashes the leather on the run and catch and that is that. So the Dodgers strike first on the Solo Jack. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. Major League Baseball is on the show and welcome back to the ballpark. And here’s the first baseman, Wilson Contras. the pitch and that’s outside. Fought off foul. The one-1 fouled off down the right side. outside low and it’s two and two and a foul ball. He stays alive. It’s so hard to slow yourself down when you see that juicy breaking ball, but the most success happens when you try to take that right back up the middle approach. That one hammered center field back there. Pulls it in on the warning track. Up next for the Cardinals, right builder Lars Nbar. Lars Nbar getting ready to hit. Went down on strikes his first time through. Nuke Bar in his fourth year, 27 years old, and he was drafted in the eighth round back in 2018. In there at the knees, 0 and one, man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. Late on that fast ball. Ooh, by the way, you got to remember to take the donut off the bat, partner. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. That one is upstairs. Two strength ball to Laser could be trouble now. Now he’ll turn for second. And now the tying run is into scoring position. Now that anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. One out, runner at second. Now it’s the shortstop. Mason win and that is out of play. Nukebar the runner at second with one away. Next pitch is outside. top of the zone for a cold strike. Look pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike. Snzilla picks up the strike out. You usually are going to see that inside fast a little longer coming in from the opposite side, Mo. That pitch really got in on him right there. I mean, that’s a wellthrown pitch. Tough to do anything with that in terms of getting the hands through and the sweet spot of the bat to the baseball. Nolan Gorman next up for the Cardinals. One for one with a single so far. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Man on second, two down on the ground right side and foul ball just off the outside part of the plate. Really good take especially with two strikes. That’s outside and that’s ball two. And a good eye there. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Nukear headed for the plate now. A long throw home. It’s off the mark and he scores. It’s 1-1. That’s back to back singles for him. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. Here’s the catcher, Pedro Pah. 0 for one so far. Just missed. That’s in for a strike. Ball game is still tied. They can get out of this inning with a tie game. in the air center field. Pah sizing this one up and that’s the third out but they pick up one run on the RBI single even now at 1-1. It’s Major League Baseball on the show and we’re back. Bottom four. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Teascar Hernandez. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. Ball one. Move into the bullpen for the Cardinals. Sunny Gray preparing to come on if needed. Palante warming up as well. That’s a base hit. Had a good start to the inning. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. Michael Conforto will climb in. Flight out his first time. That one’s in there. Strike one. one way to lay off that pitch down and one and a count one and two with two strikes. may see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. X1 just misses. Two and two. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. That’s a little bit low. So, here we go. Base runner at first. Could be running on the pitch. He’s got good enough speed to steal the bag to get in scoring position, even if it’s a swing and miss at the plate. swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field and it’s caught for the out. Now batting center fielder Andy Pahz. Andy Pahz steps to the plate for the Dodgers. His first at bat was a strikeout. just missed. Just off the inside edge. Oh, he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes. There’s the ball. Throw to second. Tag and they got him. That’s just a perfect catch and throw right there. You get a guy with that kind of speed trying to take second. He’s got such a good arm back there. But that had to be on the money. Pressure situation, if you will, right on top of it. That one’s in there. Three balls in a strike. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. And that keeps the inning alive. So up next, Alex Freeland a single his first time. LA and that’s through there for a strike. It’s 0 and one. All right, swing and a pop off in foul ground. Gorman makes the play and that ends the inning. So the Dodgers lead one. Score remains deadlocked at one. back here in LA. And stepping in is the speedy Victor Scott. Snell back to work. Just missed. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Show Otati up and loosening in the pen. Visia the lefty warming up as well. Shortened a bunt and missed it. And the count is one and one. Swing and a miss. Chased it out of the zone. This game has been so tight. Feels like the next team to score will win it. On the ground to short, bats up with it, rolls across the diamond and the leadoff hitter retired in the fifth. Up next for the Cardinals, second baseman Brendan Donovan. Back to the leadoff spot in the St. Louis lineup. Here’s the second baseman, Brendan Donovan, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. And that one a little bit high. And that one fouled off. One down. Base is empty. And a foul ball. had a breaking ball. Misses outside. Swinging and a miss. Struck him out. Picks up strike out number seven. That slider wasn’t even close to the strike zone and he got him to chase. That’s just a bad approach right there. Either he was looking for something else and got completely fooled or he was sitting all over the slider and just couldn’t resist the temptation. But man, really expanded right there and didn’t have a chance of making contact with that pitch. Here’s the Cardinal DH. Ivon Herrera. Close but called a ball and it’s one and0. swings through the fast ball up in the zone. Threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the fifth. That missed by a lot. And it’s two and two. Oh, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. stays alive. Now he breaks his bat and he bare hands it and he beats it. He’s safe. With two outs, you just want to find a way to keep the line moving for the next guy. So, an infield single right there does the job. Nicely done. Just putting it in play and getting down to first to keep this inning alive. You never know what might come next as a result. Go ahead run on base now. Up for St. Louis, Alec Burlson. He’s 0 for one. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Let’s go. And there’s a foul ball. Here off of first with two away. And that one is downstairs. And it’s two and one. Two balls, one strike. just missed. Wilson Contreras in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Two outs. Swing and a ball popped up. Freeman, he’s there. He’s got it. And that’ll do it. So, one left for the Cardinals. Still tied 1-1. We head to the bottom of the fifth. And now the catcher comes up to here. Dalton rushing. Rushing. Line to second. Snagged on the bounce. tosses to first and a quick out number one. Now batting second baseman Miguel Roas. And next for LA, Miguel Rojas struck out swinging his first time. Swings through that one for strike one. All one’s the count. Well, I I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. All tied up. Last half of inning number five. on the ground out to short. Tosses across the first home half of the fifth inning. Moving along two quick outs. Now batting shorts stop Mookie Betts. Here’s Mookie Betts now. He’s already homered here in this one. A short stop. Takes the ball. Swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Scott makes the play and that will end the inning. We played five full tied at one aside. And we’ve got ourselves a pitching change. Show Otani. He’s certainly been one of their better relief pitchers this season. The numbers are really solid. So they feel great about handing the ball over to him. Here’s Contras now. First pitch and it just misses. The Dodgers bullpen with some action. Anthony Ba looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Diaz the right-hander also getting loose. Next offering is downstairs. Two ball, one strike, swinging a miss. And that strike two. Just not able to catch up to that velocity. Battling here as he fouls it away. That just misses. Ball three. Catcher tosses the mask, settles under it, and there’s one down. Bill, that was a pitch you got to crush. Unbelievable that he missed it right there. And I’m telling you, he is going to be frustrating with himself until his next at bat. Lars Nbar digs in now. One for two. Right down to shoot. That’s strike one. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mount. Outside. That’s a ball just missed with that back door breaking ball. If he gets a swing and miss or called strike, 02 count instead. It’s 1-1. Look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat. Base is empty, one away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. showed a lot of fight with two strikes in that AB. There’s nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield. That was ripped. Caught out in front and didn’t get under it like he would have liked, but definitely put a good swing on it. Now Mason Win for two in this one. Right through there for a strike. Nukebar at first. One gone. That’s in there. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. Foul ball still 0 and two. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another swing and a miss. Struck him out. Typically that high fast ball if it’s close to the top of the strike zone a hitter if he’s prepared for it can get to it. But that one just had that little jump at the end which indicates there’s a good spin rate on it and it didn’t decrease in velocity as that hitter’s internal clock would expect it to. And that’s why you see the swing and miss. Nolan Gorman next up for the Cardinals. And first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Come on, Los Angeles. That’s a ball. Tried the sweeper and that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Two balls in the dirt. Two outs. The other way. Makes the play and it’s out number three. The Cards leave one. Score remains tied 1-1. Back here at Chavez Ravine. Bottom of the six. Now it’s the DH. Alex Call. Where’d that last pitch miss? activity in the bullpen. Sunny Gray getting loose out there. That one drifts inside. Come on. Late swing fouled off. That one outside. And that’s ball three. swinging at a highf fly ball. Well struck that one back there. It’s a bomb. A solo shot. His fourth home run of the season. Just like that, they move in front. It’s 2-1. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. That’s an impressive swing of the bat to go over the wall to the opposite field gap. And you know, there are a lot of guys that just don’t have the pop to do that and probably just as many who don’t have the approach either. He let that ball travel and he got great extension on the follow through to drive it out of here. Here comes the manager out of the Cardinals dugout and he’ll make a move to the pad. Number 35 will depart and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. Here’s a new pitcher from the pen, Sunny Gray. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Here’s Freddy Freeman now. Foul ball. Always exciting to see a leadoff home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. Very humble guy and you know on the field off the field and he goes about his at bats in that way. Boog. He’s you know just trying to stay with the plan and that plan is hit the ball in left center field, drive the ball that way, let it travel. Yep. swing and a line drive ripped out into left center field. That’ll touch down for a hit around first heading for two. And he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double all over that one right there. Really good swing right there. You got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Teascar Hernandez steps to the plate for the Dodgers. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. And a sweeper misses for a ball. And that one hammered and it gets into the corner, but it’s fouled. And at second and there’s a ball. swings through it and that’s a strike out. Up next, the batter will be Michael Conorto. Michael Conorto. There’s the strike. inside ball. Went with the sweeper, but it misses. One-run game. One out, one on. That one fouled off. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch, but just a little tardy on the fast ball. That one just misses. and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Swing and a fly ball. Well struck left field. Two away. Andy Pah steps to the plate for the Dodgers. Andy, he’s got a history of coming through in the big spots. I know I like to talk about I’m not sure whether clutch actually intentional walk here with two out. They set up a force at any base to end the inning. Now, third baseman, Alex. And up next from Los Angeles, Alex Freeland. And that one a little below the knees. And that’s ball one. Freeman the lead runner at second. Pahes on at first with two down. swinging a ground ball up the middle. They take the force out. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. One in the inning and it comes from a rather unlikely power source and it’s now a two-1 ball game. Now, welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the back. Anthony Ba should be a good first match up for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season. They’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up. Pah up for the third time here. Watches that one miss. Homeplayed umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. No fence off the plate. Ball two. line drive, base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. Now, batting the center fielder, Victor Scott, the second, no outs, runner at first. Here’s the center fielder, Victor Scott, punting, but that’s a foul ball with a tying run on at first here in the top half of inning number seven. Now, this one gets away from the catcher. No advance, though. gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Swinging a ball hit out towards left center field and that’ll fall for a base hit and a go ahead run is on base. Oh, just a nice job coming through a pretty high lever spot right there. That ball right there landed in what they call the no man’s land, meaning it’s not really a spot on the field where you can expect anyone to get to it easily. I mean, it’s a tough play going back for the shortstop, but also for the outfielders trying to come in. They got to go a long way as well. Now, a pretty big at bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up. So, the tying run in scoring position down. Now, here is Brendan Donovan. pitches in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. So the tying run at second that’s in there and it’s 0 and two. down the line. Conforce couldn’t get to it before it dropped. Foul. Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. and a swing and a miss. And that is a big first out. So far, just one of those days for this lineup. You get a couple of runners on and you’re looking at having a big inning. And that strike out right there just pours water on the fire. You look for the next hitter to step up and try to do something, pick up his teammate and his club. And up next for St. Louis, Ivon Herrera. One for three. Pitch misses there. And that is ball. One out. The possible tying and go-ahehead runs on base. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even. And that one fouled off. really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. Inside. Almost got him. spoils that one and it remains two and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Striker three and that’s two in a row. And the Dodgers will go to the bullpen. Anthony Ba done for the day and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. back with a new pitcher after this. Now, so the Dodgers have a new arm on the mound. Alexis Diaz. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. Now, the left fielder, Alec Burlson. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, Poo. Not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an invat that could change the course of this game dramatically. Big spot. Two out. Both the tying and go ahead runs are aboard and fouled off. Two on, two outs. Got him swinging. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. Did it. Got the strike out. Gets out of the jam. Clearly, he’s happy with those results. Bottom of the seventh. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Dalton rushing. Gray in his 12th season, 35 years old, a former first round pick back in 2011. Highfly ball down the left field line. Burlson on his way over, makes the catch for the out. And there’s one down. Now batting second baseman Miguel. And now Miguel Rohos. That’s in for a strike on the outside corner. 0 and one. And a strike. pitch in the dirt. Going to count one and two. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. And that’s off the inside edge. And the count’s even at two. And that skips in the dirt. Foul ball and it remains a full cow. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. 32 on the way. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another grinding AB right here. About to see pitch number 10. And that’s ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. When you go that deep into an at bat, the hitter usually comes out on top. Pulling the Dodgers. Digs in here. He blasted one out earlier in the third. Just a solo home run, but an important swing in the bat in this game. We’ve already seen him do it once. Can he do it again? Pitch is in there. Strike one. 01’s the count. Next offering is fouled back. Man at first, one away. Next offering is outside. Rarely will you see a pitcher just to waste a pitch like that. The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing. Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out. Strike three. Got him with the sweeper. Now batting designated Alex. So now the DH spot, Alex Call. He had a big swing back in the six. the solo shot that figures into this game in a pretty big way right now. Yeah, that was a big swing of the bat and he’s going to be looking for more trying to add on to this lead right here. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Off the plate, ball one. Rojos, the runner at first with two gone in the air to left center. Scott long run on his horse. Can’t get there. Base hit to third. Got him. That’s out number three. Sometimes managers want their players to be aggressive. A little questionable though, trying to go first to third on that knock. But you got to give credit to the defense. They made a perfect throw to get them at third. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now at the plate, Wilson Contrus. Oh, that got him. Got it. And that’ll put the tying run on base to start the inning. And here comes the Dodgers manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Alexis Diaz done for the afternoon. And as he heads off, we’ll step aside for a minute. Back with a new pitcher after this break. Now pitching Alex Via on a pitch out of the pen here. And he’s been fantastic this year. Really stingy in terms of allowing base runners. He’s just got great stuff that’s tough to square up. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Lars Nbar. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. And what you tell yourself is, I want to stay square to the plate, try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. Lays down a buck to the right side. And he grabs it in foul ground. popped up, brings it in, and there’s one down. Couple of pitches and a quick out. Now batting, short stop, Mason Win. Now up for St. Louis. Mason win 0 for three with three strikeouts. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in scoring position. Right through there for a strike. Ground ball left side. Could be two. Fired to second. Throw to first, but he beat it. Well, there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. And up next for St. Louis, Nolan Gorman. And the first pitch misses for ball one. If he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. In for a strike and it’s one and one. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. And that one is lifted in the air. Hernandez sizes this one up, drops into the glove, and that’s the third out. So, no runs on no hits, no errors, and one man left. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead, it’s the Dodgers two and the Cardinals won. Now pitching for back now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Kyle Ley. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. So, now it’s Freddy Freeman. All for the Dodgers. First baseman, Freddy Freeman. Let’s go. And that one is in for a strike at 95 and one. That’s down and in. I got a ball. One strike. Missed with a change up and it’s two and one. Two-1. Nope. Up there. And that’s in for a strike. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit and down on strikes. And that’s the first out. Up next, here’s Oscar Hernandez, rightielder to Oscar Hernandez. Misses the zone for a ball. That was the sweeper. Movement in the bullpen. Andre Palante getting ready to go. Number 49 also throwing. Base is empty, one away here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. And a big swing and a miss. One and one. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. He has a tendency to chase out of the zone. And that slider that’s down, that’s one of his money pitches to get that swing and miss. That just misses. And now two balls and two strikes. And that’s in the dirt. Caught him looking for the K. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one. That was his third strike out and this one looking obviously. So, he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. And here is Michael Conforto 0 for three in this one and fires in a fast ball at 95. Got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. 02 is the count. Next pitch misses inside and the count one and two. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Way upstairs. It’s two and two. That’s to third. Gorman sends it across to first and the Dodgers are set down in order. Dodgers go down quietly as they’re unable to add to their 2-1 lead. Back now and on the mound the closer Manuel Keon a chance at his first save of the year. Number 16. Well game and here’s the catcher Pedro Pah. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. lined and that’s a base hit. Off to a good start with a leadoff knock. Always feels amazing getting a job done when a team needs you to come through. It’s just bigger than your own individual stats. Just a solid swing right there. Caught it out front and lifted into the outfield for the base hit. Those always feel great. No outs. Runner at first. Victor Scott. Next up for the Cardinals. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow left field. One away. Up next for the Cardinals. Second base Donovan. He’s two outs away. Now it’s the second baseman Brendan Donovan. 0 for four with four strikeouts. Line drive to short and caught. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting the line drive that finds a glove. But you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. They’re down to their final. Ivon Herrera next up for the Cardinals. Pitch misses and that’s ball one. Typically the outfield defense will play a little bit deeper just to keep the ball in front. Make sure that runner on first doesn’t come all the way around to score and tie this ball game up. Swanging a ground ball and it’s just fouled. That was close. That one misses now. Two balls in a strike. Hit to right and that ought to do it. He’ll squeeze it for the final out and the Dodgers strand the tying run on base to win it. The ball for his first career save deserves to be on display at his house. I And it’s kind of like when a restaurant frames its first dollar bill somewhere in a wall. You just can’t forget your first save. And your final score here today, 2-1. Dave Roberts and company celebrate in the dugout. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon. Heat. Heat.
