Athletics vs Nationals Predictions | MLB Props Today | Best MLB Picks 8/6/25

It’s time for more Major League Baseball free picks. If you’re looking for free bets for Wednesday night in Major League Baseball, you’re going to want to watch this video. First, a quick recap of yesterday. I didn’t have any client MLB plays, but uh my free play video split. We hit the over on Jay’s Rockies, lost with White Socks plus one and a half. And then my best bet from the Total Bases show was the Rangers. Um so that one won as well. So two-1 on the free picks, two- one on the client plays. It’s just they weren’t from MLB, a KBO winner, split the AAA plays. Uh so overall a productive day yesterday. Uh and today I’ve got a 4enter up uh for Major League Baseball. It goes midafter afternoon. Uh so still time to get that depending on when you’re seeing this video. All right, let’s talk A’s Nationals. This is one that didn’t come up on the Total Basis show today. Uh so we’ll do a full breakdown here. Uh something that I think applies to both of these teams. They’re both young teams and they’ve re young teams that are out of it essentially non-contenders. Neither team has playoff aspirations this year. Uh but both have really been hot and cold. Meaning, you know, and this is a characteristic I think you’ll find yeartoear with with some teams that have a lot of young guys. When things are going well, they tend to go great because, you know, they they’re able to ride that momentum. everyone’s got confidence, it tends to snowball and when it’s not going well, it can really go in the other direction. Just ask the A’s about that. They played awesome for the first six weeks of the season and then I think they lost 21 of 22. Some crazy losing streak for the A’s from like mid-March through early June where just absolutely nothing would go right for that team. Uh, and then it was a lot of, you know, guys facing adversity for the first time in their career. A bunch of young guys that haven’t really struggled at the big league level before because they haven’t been there long enough. Uh, all struggling at the same time. That was the A’s back then. Feels like that’s what the Nationals are right now. Whereas the A’s are in one of their sort of good stretches. They’re eight and three in their last 11 games and they’ve played great ball in my opinion or above average baseball over the past couple weeks. So, my kind of gut tells me that they’re going to continue to do that here. Whereas the Nationals seem like they’re want they’re in one of those stretches where who knows where their next win is coming from. Six straight losses for this Nationals team and they’re a team in my opinion that’s gotten far worse over the last couple months. I mean, if you go back to early June, the Nationals kind of had, you know, while the A’s were struggling in that stretch, the Nats probably played some of their best ball of the year. Uh, and they were starting to, you know, kind of approach 500, really playing well, and that just simply has not been the case to start the second half of the season. And like I said, they come in on six straight losses here. Would not be surprised if it ends up being a seventh straight loss. Uh, the Nationals do not profile as a good team against left-handed pitching, as a as a team that you want to back against left-handed pitching. Now, it’s not as drastic as it was earlier in the season. There was a point in time when the Nats were playing good where they were basically batting one through nine lefties against a right-handed pitcher. And then, you know, it was less optimal against a lefty, but they had a couple switch hitters and they could get by um, you know, just with whatever they had. It’s not quite as unbalanced anymore. But also, it’s worth pointing out that the Nats best stretch when they play their best ball, when they are at their optimal sort of lineup is when they can go pretty much all lefties against a right-handed pitcher. So, left-handed pitchers are going to give this lineup trouble. They’re going to give the guys like James Wood a hard time. And there’s some other lefties, you know, kind of scattered throughout the lineup that aren’t switch hitters and that tend to struggle against left-handed pitching. So, here you have a lefty, one that I’m not overly fond of in Jeffrey Springs. He’s been a guy that I’ve looked to play against at times, but he’s still a a veteran left-handed pitcher that, you know, has has some good breaking stuff, can be elusive at times. Um, doesn’t get hit super hard. He he he definitely, you know, gets his share of soft contact and he gets guys out. and he’s also a guy that prefer like he he uses the fly ball to his advantage. Um and and so he really profiles as someone for the A’s that I’d much rather back on the road because of course the A’s no longer in Oakland Coliseum. They’re in that small ballpark, Sutter Health Park. It’s a minor league baseball stadium. There’s cheap home runs in that ballpark. So Springs is definitely someone that I’d rather back on the road for that reason. So, by all accounts, this sets up as a a favorable matchup opponent ballpark pretty much favorable across the board for Jeffrey Springs. The Nationals are going to counter here uh with Cade Kavali. So, Kavali is someone that, you know, I he hasn’t really been in he hasn’t been in the big leagues. Um I think he he made his debut back in 2022. Uh then he was out for a full season. Uh re you know he had a full season where he didn’t pitch at all. I believe I don’t know if he had Tommy John or or what what he had, but it was a an injury that I believe cost him all of 2023 and most of 2024. Um so this is a guy that’s a former first round pick. He was the Nationals firstrounder. uh one of the Nationals first rounders I believe back in the 2020 draft that during that COVID year that short that shortened draft um made his MLB debut back in 2022 and didn’t pitch all of 2023 and only made a couple of appearances in the minors at 2024. So so this guy pretty much lost two seasons almost two two full years. Uh this year he spent the majority of his year at ata Rochester. So, he’s someone that I’ve watched quite a bit of, and I really haven’t been overly impressed. He’s not someone that that’s ever really made the upper echelon of my pitching rankings for for a minor leaguer. His ERA through um 15 starts in the minors this year is 6.09. Uh he is nearly he has a 294 batting average against and a 155 whip. I’ve actually seen him in person um uh I think once. I’ I’ve been to a few Rochester Red Wings games this year and I also saw them play when they came to Syracuse. So, uh I believe the one time I saw him in person, he got rocked. Not that that really matters, but like point is of his 15 starts at Rochester, I’ve watched most of them and I haven’t been overly impressed. So, this A’s lineup that comes in and they’re swinging collectively swinging hot bats right now, eight and three in their last 11 games. I think that they could do some damage against this guy because Kavali is not a guy that I really feel like would be at the big league level right now if he was on most other teams, but the Nationals right now are just the nationals. And you know, it it it’s let’s get to the end of the season, regroup, and try to do this again next year. So, uh I felt like the A’s the price on them was short. uh the Nationals. Again, I would not be surprised if this snowballs into a 10 or 11 loss run for the Nats cuz that’s, you know, it just feels like they’re dejected right now. It’s a lot of young players. So, they’re going to need something to go well to get back on, you know, on track. And I just don’t know that that happens here against a left-handed uh veter a veteran lefty and against a lineup in the A’s that’s been knocking the cover off the ball right now. So, I lean toward the A’s. It was one I considered, not one I’ve played yet. If I do play this one, I will post it to my Twitter. Make sure you’re following me there, Adam Triggerw. I do have a 4enter already locked in. It goes a little bit earlier this afternoon. That’s up on my page at wager talk and you can get that at the link below, wt.buzzat, scrolling across the bottom of the screen.
