🔴LIVE 🔴St Louis Cardinals VS Los Angeles Dodgers/August 6th/Mlb Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25

Dodge Stadium. We’ve got baseball on the show. It’s the St. Louis Cardinals taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. So, just about set now. And starting in this one, number 80, Chris. It’s a little more common these days, but still he’s a strikeout per inning type of guy. Well, I hear you about the strikeouts. A lot more guys striking out today. But when you consider having the ability to get that strike out, particularly when you need it, a man on third, less than two outs, situations where, yeah, maybe you’re not a real high strikeout guy, but just knowing you have the swing and miss in a big spot, I think it’s real critical. And he’s got it. Hard hit right side, whips it to first and the first out of the game is an easy one. Now we take a check of the St. Louis Cardinals lineup. This is a good offense, Chris. You’re going to get quality at bats and balls put in play consistently with this group. And it doesn’t really matter who they’re facing on the mound. They have the ability to go out and compete and win ball games. Um if it’s an all-star or Sai Young award winner to just a rookie up in the big leagues. So when you have that, you have a chance to win every night. If I was a pitcher on this team, I’d feel pretty good about taking the mound for him. Ivon Herrera stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. That one ripped, headed one, hops the wall, makes the turn, and heads for second. And he’s in with a standup double. He was all over that one. A lot of times in today’s game, right fielders are able to get to a ball that stays in like that. But he hit that one pretty well. And if he hits it just a little bit different on the barrel, it’s out of here easily. But there’s nothing wrong with the extra bases right there. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position at the plate. Alec Burlson in the first pitch misses for ball one. Here leads off second with one gone in the inning. And another ball. Not showing great command so far in this at bat. 20 count. He’s got to execute here or this could get ugly. Slap the other way. Foul. too high and now it’s three and one. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitter count. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Punch him out in the air out towards right center. Pah sizing this one up. Pulls it in. Three out. And there’s two down. First baseman Wilson Contrarus. Here’s Contrarus. Now he’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. Swang at a highf fly ball. Well struck that one. Carrying that skips over the fence. So, it’s an automatic double as a run scores. He puts a great swing on that pitch and drives home the run. And that was always going to be a double, but the bounce over the wall just took the guesswork out of it right away. It was a nice swing. And now Lars Nbar at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Here’s a guy at the plate I’m expecting to have a good game. He always seemed to play better in road games. Swing in a ball hammered left field way back there and off the base of the wall. Contrarus crosses the plate and they lead by two. Love how he let that ball travel, trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. So runner at second, two down. Mason win getting ready to hit. Check swing and he went strike one and one. Breaking ball misses down and away. One ball, one strike. Not close with that one. Two and one. Not really attacking on the mound in this at bat. All breaking balls. So that makes me think they’re not really wanting to challenge him here. This one in the air, right field, stretches out and holds it in. Two runs, three hits, no errors, and one left. Bottom half of inning number one. Coming up, it’s the Cardinals two. The Dodgers coming to bat. Back here with my pal Singi. Now, the starting pitcher in this one, Miles Michaels. And Chris pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. line drive. Base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing. Nice balance and weight transfer. And he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. Now it’s Mookie Betts. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. And that one fouled off. with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. And there’s a ball way to lay off that pitch down. And that’s off the inside edge. Two and two. Michael throws to first and he’s back in safely. I think you want to get a one-way lead. Be very aggressive in the secondary. This hitter, not a power guy, so you want to make sure that you can get some length on the secondary lead and perhaps score on a ball in the gap. Walker sizes this one up. And there’s one down. Time to check out the Dodgers lineup. They do a lot of things well in this offense, Singy. They control the strike zone. They make pitchers work hard for outs and as a result one of the better OBP teams in the league. Well, what I love about it is it’s an organizational philosophy. Whether you go to instructional league, whether you go to spring training, you see these guys even during batting practice when it doesn’t matter. They’re practicing that type of approach. Boo. And when you have that filtering through the organization, even when you call off a player, he steps right in and continues with the pattern that they have established at this level, which ultimately leads to a lot of success. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Here comes Max Muny. You know, you translate on base percentage, it’s basically this. Teams that have a high on base percentage, they don’t make outs at a very high rate. As my buddy Joe Sheen says, OBP is life. That’s hard hit on the line and foul ball. 0 and two now and the slider just misses. Well, he’s not afraid to fall into a two- strike count. Knows the strike zone very well. So much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it’s a ball or strike, if he swings or not. That one misses and it’s three and two. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. And that’s a base hit. And now first and second with two outs. That ball was blasted, Boo. And as broadcasters, we can go weeks without seeing a ball hit 115 mph, which is what Stadcast tells us there. Man, he really got the bat through the zone and did not get cheated. Yeah, that ball was absolutely smoked. T Oscar Hernandez in the box lays off for ball one. They take the force out and that is that. Dodgers strand a couple. They trail things here. Two nothing. Back here in LA. Here’s Nolan Gorman taking high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Laser could be trouble now. He’ll turn for second and he’s got a leadoff double. Oh, that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there. When you connect and it jumps off your bat like that, you’re thinking double at the very least. He put a great swing on it and man, he wasn’t fooled at all. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Joho next up for the Cardinals. First offering and it just misses. Gorman at second with nobody out. That one lifted to left. Conforto settles under it. Drops into the glove and there’s one down. Batting night, right fielder Jordan Walker. And up next for St. Louis, Jordan Walker. Fought off foul. He swings and drives one out to deep left field. Going back. Pulls it in on the warning trap. So the lineup flips over, stepping in, Brendan Donovan grounded out his first time. You have to be careful throwing and breaking pitches, even in an O count. He loves going after the off speed stuff, and he’s really good at hitting it. And the first offering is not close. Runner at second. Two down here in the top of the second. Swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field now. A long throw home. It’s offline. The run comes in. It’s three zip. Comes through with the RBI. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. He didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. just shot it through the infield. And now it’s Ivon Herrera. A double and a run scored his first time up. Fast ball for a strike. ball one straight. Next offering upstairs, activity in the bullpen for the Dodgers. Show Otati looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts trying it. A hard throwing right-hander up as well. swings through that one for strike two. One ball, two strike and a pop off right side. Foul territory. Did he trip? What happened? Sniper. Great effort. That’s how bad he wanted that one. Head first dive. That’s a strike out. Good looking sweeper there, but the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now 3 nothing. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back here at Chavez Ravine. Bottom of the second. Here’s the left fielder, Michael Conorto. Conorto Michaelis back to work. Just missed. A three-0 lead is great, but you can’t get too comfortable. Got to stay aggressive, keep attacking hitters, try to cruise through this ball game. Next offering is fouled back. on the ground to the left. Win throw off line. He’s safe and a nice job there to keep it from getting away. That’s a play you expect your shortstop to make pretty much every time. Pretty routine. Hard to tell if he didn’t get a great grip on it or the mechanics on him just broke down, but that gives this offense an extra out to work with. Andy Pahus now at the plate. Top of the zone for a called strike. Let’s go now. That misses and the count is one and two. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. And a one, two. And that’s outside. Stays alive. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. That was pretty nasty. Well, just excellent location on that inside fast ball. Really locked him up. And it’s a hitter. It’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So, you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. It’s hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called a ball, but either way, that’s a really nice pitch. Alex Freeland steps to the plate for the Dodgers. That one fouled off. Oh, one down. No, that’s off the plate. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. The 1-1 is fouled off. And a foul ball. He stays alive. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Next one misses. Ball two. Swinging a drive deep right field. That ball’s carrying and it is gone. And they throw a pair on the board. It’s 3-2. This crowd is on fire right now. They’re going nuts thanks to that home run. Anytime you have a pitch down the middle of the plate, the percentages go up for the hitter to do damage. Even if it’s a pretty good sinker like that one. Nice piece of hitting there at the plate. Here’s the catcher to hit. Dalton rushing. That’s off the mark. One and0. One out. Base is empty. Next offering misses and now two and 0. Larry Bullard, our umpire behind the plate. Bullard’s got a pretty standard strike zone. Sometimes they’ll have you guessing a little bit, but overall well respected umpire in the league. Fast for a strike. Singy, what kind of strike zone is most frustrating for hitters? I’d say off the plate, away, and down. and wide lays out, but he can’t squeeze it. Gets it there in time, though. He keeps his composure and they get the out. This is what it’s all about on that right side of the diamond when you got the first base involved and the pitcher as well. First baseman does a great job. Knocks the ball down, gets away from a little bit, doesn’t panic. The pitcher’s exactly where he’s supposed to be. Nice feed and a nice play for the out. Back to the top of the lineup. Next to hit, Alex call. And that’s in there at the knees. Two outs. Blind drive. That’s a base hit into right field. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. the next to hit takes ball one. Call off of first with two away. Next offering is in for a strike. Fast ball in the inside corner for a strike. One ball, two strike. swing and a miss. And that is that two-run shot for the Dodgers this inning. It’s now a 32 ball game. Back here at Dodger Stadium leading off Alec Burlson. Been a rough start on the mound for this guy. This third inning so important for him to get on track. turn the page, settle in, do all those things you need to do to give your team a little bit of length in this one. You know, these cards doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. And here’s a stat for you, Boo. They’re making contact with more than 85% of the pitches that they’re swinging at. It’s pretty special stuff. Not so good if you’re out there on the mound. Just at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Hard hit left side. Sends it to first. Lead off hitter gone in the third. Fastball groove right down the middle. Usually a lot of damage done with that pitch. A hard grounder, but he wanted to get that ball in the air. maybe drive it into the gap. Here comes Wilson Contrus. Doubled in his first AB. Swinging a foul straight back. Next offering is downstairs. Check swing called strike. Two and two. Clober to right field. Way back. Gone. He sends one out the opposite way. His second homer this series. It’s 42. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the booth. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. And here comes the Dodgers manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Number 80 won’t go any further tonight. And the opener strategy clearly didn’t work out this time. New arm coming on. We’ll be back after a short break. Now pitching. So the Dodgers have a new arm on the mound. Show Otani. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Base is empty. One away. And here is Lars Nbar. Doubled his first time up. Right through there for a strike. Oh one. a rope into right and that should be extra bases around first and hustling for second and he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double. I’m sure he feels really good about that one. And man, I’ll tell you, a line drive like that into the gap just feels so good. It’s feedback that you had everything on time and in control from start to finish with your swing. One out, runner at second. Now up for St. Louis. Mason Win. That clips a corner. All right, Sing, you know I’m a dork. Show Otani, go back to May 5th, 2022 at Fenway Park. He tossed a complete game through 99 pitches. Get this, 81 strikes. It was the most strikes thrown with less than 100 pitches in a game since they started tracking pitch counts. That’s just unreal. Otani, he’s kind of a prototypical bullpen arm in today’s game. electric stuff that results in a ton of strikeouts in a tough spot like this. That is a big time benefit and he takes it himself for the out. As a hitter, when a guy like this comes into the game, you feel like he’s standing on top of you and it’s just attack mode coming right at you expecting to get a swing and miss. So, two down now and here is Nolan Gorman one for one with a double and a run scored. just off the outside edge. Ball one. Evidently not too impressed with that call and it feels like he got squeezed on the outside corner. So, he’s making his case. You’ve got to be careful to pick your spots in terms of showing your frustration with the umpire and he felt this was his time. And he’s swinging a miss one and one. That’s a ball. Two and one. Fouled off left side. Two outs with a runner at third. also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. That missed by a lot. Full count, three and two. Joho up next for the Cardinals. Swag and a miss. The velocity blasted it right past him. So they pick up a run on two hits. No errors and a man left. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Cardinals four and the Dodgers two. And we’re back as we go to the last of the third. And now Freddy Freeman. Freeman. Late swing. Fouled to the left. very humble guy and you know on the field off the field and he goes about his at bats in that way. Boog he’s you know just trying to stay with the plan and that plan is hit the ball to left center field drive the ball that way let it travel. Yep. Tap dances out of the way of that one. Two ball strike. kicks and deals. Got him. And he’s registered. Three Ks in this one. No, I can’t argue with that one. And clearly he was looking for something else. Anything but the breaking ball. It’s a great pitch to hit right there if you’re looking for it. And kind of a gift in a two- strike count. But sometimes you just get fooled and you got to tip your cap. Muny takes a ball as he stands in for the second time. That one called just inside, I think, and on the mound. He’s trying to get a little bit of an explanation. Doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it, though. But he clearly thought it clipped the corner. And now two and nothing. Ripped to right, base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Showed some really nice patience in that at bat. Worked himself into a good count. That’s a good sound coming off the bat, man. And as he connected out front and ripped it into the outfield. That’s one of those swings where you just don’t even feel the ball hit the barrel. That’s a pure stroke. Here’s Tay Oscar Hernandez inside. Just missed. Now, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important getting back into this ball game. Popped up foul territory behind the play. He’s under it. pulls it down and he makes the catch. Two away. Got the pitch that he wanted. Just a little bit quick. Front shoulder open. Backside collapsed a little bit and the launch angle not where he needed it to be. Michael Conford will climb in. He’s over for one. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. Muny the runner at first with two gone. Pitch misses there now. One and two. Really good take especially with two strikes. That one outside and the count now even up. Angeles fights it off. He’ll see another little early on that fast ball. I’m sure the pitcher taking a note. Look for an offspe pitch on this next one. That one not close and it’s a full count. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. Two outs. Ripped on the ground to second. Tosses to first. That’s the inning. One left for LA. They trail it here. Four to two. And welcome back to the ballpark. Start of the fourth and now the Cardinals catcher Joho. Otani goes 6′ 3 in 30 years old now and he was born in Japan. And he hits a ground ball right side and it goes just fouled. The 1-1 is fouled off. One and two now. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. And a one-two again. Swinging a ground ball. Can’t glove it cleanly. Gets off a throw and they get him. The misplay made it a bit messy, but they clean things up for the out. Right fielder Jordan Walker. So digging in, Jordan Walker flyed to left his first time. Hit hard. base hit. So that will bring up the top of the order with one away. Back to the leadoff spot in the St. Louis lineup. Digging in. Brendan Donovan went with the sweeper, but it misses. The one runner on the move. Next offering is fouled back. That misses. Two and one man at first. One away. in the air left field down the line and no one can get to it. It’s a foul ball. Two two now. Ground ball right side. Oh, nice stop at first to second for one and it’s over his head and they won’t get him and he goes first to third on the error. Now betting the designated hitter Ivon Herrera. Two on, one out. And next is the designated hitter Ivon Herrera. One for two. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Not sure if he was expecting for the pitcher to come right at him, but he got a nice cookie there and just watched it the entire way. Two on, one out. That one ripped, but foul. Swings and misses. Went back to the fast and it was effective. Gosh, here it is. headed three pitch strikeout all fast balls. Man, he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch right now. Alec Burlson digs in now. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. Just missed. Ruers on first and third. Two away top half of inning number four. That one missed. Homeplayed umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, I know they’ve gotten out to an early lead, but you don’t want to take these opportunities for granted with two outs. Still lock in with a quality at bat. Drive in that run. You may not have another runner in scoring position the rest of this ball game. And a swing and a miss. That K is his third of the game. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. did it. Got the strike out. Gets out of the jam. Clearly, he’s happy with those results. Back here in LA. Bottom four. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Andy Pah. Center fielder. Andy Pahz. And that’s too high. Movement in the bullpen for the Cardinals. Number 49 appears to be getting loose. Gineo also throwing. There’s the strike. That one is absolutely belted. Could be extra bases. Now he turns and heads for second. The throw in and save at second. He beats it. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Miles Michaels departs and he’s not going to be happy with himself. New pitcher on the mound in a moment. Now pitching. So they turn things over to the righty number 49. Well, good luck against this guy. He’s been extremely tough to hit this year. His numbers are excellent. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Freeland the next to hit. He’s already homered here in this one. Fouled off. He was late. As a pitcher, you know, the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run. So, you really have to execute on the mound. cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Dalton rushing steps to the plate for the Dodgers. 0 for one so far. ripped but a curls foul. Breaking ball inside. One ball, one strike. man at second. This one in the dirt. Runner holds. Count goes to two and one. That one misses and the count is three and one. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. It’s in and out of his glove. Still able to fire over. The throw won’t get there in time and they don’t get an out on the play. Oh, just a nice job coming through in a pretty high leverage spot right there. That’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle. Hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly. But you can’t really blame the defense in that case. First and second, one out. And here is Alex Call. He’s two for two. Jackson swing hit to the left side. Slings to first in time. Nice job of deception right there by the pitcher. Got the hitter out there a little bit. Couldn’t check his swing and induces a nice little ground out. Here’s Mookie to hit. Go for two in this one. And this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. Contrarus on a dead sprint. Can’t get there. This one lands foul. Foul ball still 0 and two. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. One ball in the dirt. Wow, that’s a great job behind the dish there. Way inside. Gets out of the way. turns and fires to Betts. Knocks that one away and will do it again with the go-ahead run at the plate. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. That misses the zone. Three and two now. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Line drive and this might be trouble. One runs in. A second scores as well. It’s 44. A tworun double. Just great concentration. Everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing. And there he doesn’t try to do too much. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Here comes Freddy Freeman up to hit and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Ball game is still tied. They can get out of this inning with a tie game. Man on second, two down. And that one fouled off. 0 and2 now. And that one is inside. One and two. Bets at second with two down. liner and this could be trouble. Runner around third on his way to the plate. He will score and they take the lead. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring at back. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. Manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Number 49 done for the night and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming up. We’ll be back in a minute. New arm of the mound for the Cardinals, Kyle Lady. And that’s a big potential run out there in second as he comes in trying to keep the deficit where it is. For the infielders, they got to be thinking about keeping the ball from getting by them into the outfield any way they can. So, runner at second, two down. Maxy at the dish. Got to be careful with a slugger like this because he can turn it into a three-run game in the blink of an eye. And a strike on the outside edge. check swing tried to hold up. Now it’ll appeal to third and that’s going to be ruled to swing. Muny hits one in the air. Burlson in position and he makes the catch and the inning is over. Three runs on, four hits, no errors and one left on. We played four. It’s the Dodgers five and the Cardinals four. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Alexis Diaz. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. Well, one-run game and up to hit is Wilson Contrus. He’s already homerred in this game. popped up, makes the grab, and there’s one down. Now batting the center fielder, Lars Nbar. Here’s the center fielder, Lars Nbar. just missed. One and0 on the ground dives and he can’t hang on. No throw and he reaches safely. Now batting short stop. Looks like we’ve got a substitution at first. Cardinals going with a pinch runner. Victor Scott number 11. Now here is Mason Win. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in the scoring position. Boo, the runner at first, needs to be careful right here. He’s dealing with a pickoff artist on the mound. And a swing and a miss there. This is one of those situations the infielders have to pre-plan and understand that the ball’s got to be hit extremely hard right at them if they’re going to have a chance to go for a double play. Check on the runner. Scott back on a dive. He’s got plus speed, but in this situation, all eyes are going to be over there trying to keep his lead tight. Got him. Larry Bullard rings him up. Nolan Gorman next up for the Cardinals. And things could change quickly here with one swing. First pitch misses. Chris, with that distraction and the speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter’s count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. There’s a strike. Right side hard hit. tosses to first. Out number three. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. Home half of the fifth. Coming up, it’s the Dodgers five and the Cardinals four. Back here at Chavez Ravine, John Shabi with my buddy Chris Singleton. And set to get us started. Bottom five, Tay Oscar Hernandez. Come on. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. You know, these Dodgers digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. Just look at how the ball’s coming off their bats. And tell me it’s fun playing defense at this level. They got seven hits at 90 plus miles per hour exit velocity. So you got to look alive out there. Up next for the Dodgers. The batter will be Michael Conorto. Michael Conorto. Off the mark there. And that’s ball one. There’s the strike. Missed with a change up. Now two balls and a strike. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Sharp grounder that’s through for a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Andy Pah steps to the plate for the Dodgers. Swang and a miss. Two ball one strike. Swings and misses. And that is strike two. That front door slider. Such a devastating pitch. You don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball. So, you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there, it’s out of the swing player. And that’s outside and the count one and two. Chopped to third and that’s just fouled. Confordo the base runner at first with one out. Foul ball still a one and two count. That’s down and in. Two balls two straight. And that’s outside. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. He makes the grab and there’s two away. Now batting second base Alex Alex Freeland steps to the plate for the Dodgers. Well, both sides equally as strong. So not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. And first offering is fouled off. swing at a high-fly ball right field. Scott sizing this one up and that is that. So the Dodgers leave one. They lead it 5-4. Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Leroy Warner. a chance at his first save of the year. Number 13. Well, one-run game. And here’s the catcher. Joho misses off the play. Ball one. line drive and this might be trouble. And the tying runs at second base with a double. Just a clutch at bat right there. Big time swing when this team really needed it. A well-deserved double on a great swing. Got everything going on time. He stayed balanced and he squared it up about as well as you could possibly ask. And now a crucial opportunity to tie up this game with another base hit. Jordan Walker will hit next. Just missed. Well, comfortable or not, these are the situations closers they seem to live for. I mean, you get into some hot water, a jam, tough spot, whatever you want to call it, but this is where they earn their keep. No outs. Runner on second. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. Hit in the air right field. Hernandez settles underneath it. Squeezes it. Runner tags at second and he’s in safely at third with one out. Brendan Donovan now at the plate. Ty run is only 90 ft away. You need to find a way to score here. No excuses with less than two outs. Not even close there. And it’s one and0. The tying run is 90 ft away. the other way down the line and it’s fouled. Oh, squirts away a little bit and an excellent job keeping it right there. One away with a runner at third. Just misses there. That’s a really good take. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. But I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield and ball forward to a board. Didn’t miss by much right there. Just couldn’t get the call off the inside corner. The designated hitter Ivon Herrera making a move at first. Pinch running here. Garrett Hson number 13. Ivon Herrera next up for the Cardinals. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. Right through there for a strike. Really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter. And that is out of play. headed towards the corner and a foul ball. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Slice to right and it’s just fouled. That was close. Well, they say it’s a game of inches and that’s a perfect example right there. Could have been a big swing in this game if it stayed fair. Next pitch is downstairs. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taking at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. On the ground, two ball to second. There’s one. Got him. Double play. And they strand the tying run at third to end the game. The ball for his first career save deserves to be on display at his house. I mean, it’s kind of like when a restaurant frames its first dollar bill somewhere in a wall. You just can’t forget your first save. Close one here today. And your final 54. They hang on to win it by a run for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks
