MLB LIVE🔴 San Francisco Giants vs Pittsburgh Pirates – Aug 5, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

All right, just about set to go and pitching in this game, Mike Burroughs. Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. and he’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Ready to go now. It’s going to be Elliot Ramos singing. When the year’s over, he’ll have a new careerhigh for RBI’s in a season. Up and in. And we are underway. Wow. Boo. First pitch of the night. And looks like the strike zone’s a little small. Just missed. That one ripped but fouled. Misses outside. Three and one to the left side, but it is well fouled. chases the change up in the dirt. Davis collects, fires to first. Got him one away on the strike out. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Raphael Des the next to hit takes ball one. The pitch just missed. Hit in the air right field. And that one way back there and that is way gone. Home run number 20 on the year. It’s one- nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Can be pretty dangerous when you fall behind in the count. 20. You’ve still got to try to find a way to keep that hitter off balance. Well, he wasn’t able to do it there. And the hitter did a nice job of turning that pitch around, not missing it in a hitter’s count. Willie Adam stands in. I’m liking what I’ve seen from him at the dish lately. Batting over 300 so far this month. And first off is fouled off. One out. Base is empty. And they’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Got to be careful here. This is the type of hitter that can punish you even with pitches outside the zone. That’s a hit. So, they get a man aboard with a one out single. Third base, Matt Chapman. Here’s Matt Chapman. And that’s in there for strike one. 01. This one popped off. Gonzalez hauls it in for the owl. And there’s two down. Now we take a peek at the Giants lineup. This is an offense, Chris, that’s having a hard time scoring runs right now. Yeah, sometimes things just aren’t going to click and unfortunately what happens is players press. They try to do a little bit more and they get out of their game. You’ve got to let the game come to you. If you chase it, it’s going to run from you. So, this is a team that just needs to calm down, relax, and understand that they’re going to come out of this. Dominic Smith at the plate with two away. Swings through that one. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. Adamus off of first with two away. ball. Got him. And that is that. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s an early one- nothing lead. You’re dialed into the show. Back here with my pal Singi and today’s starting pitcher Logan Webb. And this will be a tough test for him. Pitching on the road has not been that kind to his numbers. Well, I think he’s just got to trick himself mentally and put himself in a comfort level like he does at home. I know it’s not the same being on the road as away from home in terms of being able to have a routine and be consistent with it, but this game is so much mental and he’s going to have to find a way to play a mind game with himself to move through this ball game and get a W. Swinging a foul straight back. Come on. That one outside and it’s one and two. One ball, two strikes. And a swing and a miss. And that’s the first out. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. Andrew McCutchen stands in here, tried to hold back his swing there, but went around. Swing and a miss. Oh, with two now. No balls. Two strikes. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Well, there appears to be no problem settling in on the mound out there today. It looks pretty tough to start this one. Punching out the first two hitters of this ball game. And somebody’s going to have to put the bat on the ball, put it in play, and get something going. Brian Reynolds in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. That misses and now it’s even one and one. Looks really sharp at the start of this one. This is how it’s going to be today. It’s going to be a tough one for this lineup. Up the middle dives and he can’t hang on. The throw is late and the Defense comes away with nothing. Two outs, runner at first. Here’s O’Neal Cruz. And that drops in for a strike. No balls. One strike. clips the corner and it’s on 0 and two. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Got him swinging. He chased the change up. That K is his third of the game. Pirates leave one. Still behind by a count of one to nothing. back here in Pittsburgh. And now the center fielder, Jung Hu Lee. Here’s some fun facts about Jung Hu Lee. You look at the fact that he wears number 51. Not a shocker, but his favorite player growing up, Ichiro Suzuki. No strikes. One of the other aspects of Jung Holi’s bio. He was actually drafted as a shortstop, now an outfielder, but he grew up right-handed and his dad was the one that made him switch hit. Foul ball there. Mentioned Lee’s dad, Jung Bum Lee. He was a legend over in both the KBO and in Japan. These two are the only fatherson combo to have played in the World Baseball Classic. That’s kind of cool. Got him looking and he’s registered three K’s in this one. Oh, just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there. I think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle. So, I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the heart stuff boring in on his hands. And now it’s going to be Casey Schmidt. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. And another ball. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. That one finds the zone and a cow. Two on one. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Batting right. Mike Ystreky up here. This one in the air. Good solids. And there are two down. Oh, that’s a frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter right there. I mean, that pitch was right down the middle. I think he got a little too excited, came out of his mechanics, and instead of driving that ball somewhere, he popped it up. Unfortunate for him. They had a foul ball. Schmidt the runner at first with two gone. And that’s too high. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, you’ll look for something down in the zone, but not too far. You don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. On the inside corner for called strike three. One left for San Francisco, but they still lead it one- nothing. Back here at PNC Park. Bottom of the second at the plate for Pittsburgh. Nick Gonzalez. Gonzalez. Web back to work. And there’s a strike on the outside corner. Man, that pitch was dotted. So much talent on display when this guy’s out there on the hill. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And the count even one and one. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. Fouled off down the right side. In the air, out to center. Diving try, but it falls in. base hit. So, next to the plate for Pittsburgh, Jack Solinski. I love this part of the game. Does he really want to try and steal second against this catcher? I know he’s fast, but it’s pretty risky. center field. Lee under this one drops into the glove and there’s one away Davis. And here is Henry Davis. rolled softly, but that goes foul. Man at first, one away. And that one is downstairs. And the count is one and one. Making the calls behind the plate in this one is Woody Keller. Yeah, and Woody does a pretty good job back there, Boo. He’s got a pretty fair strike zone most of the time. Maybe some inconsistency here or there, but usually he’s back there doing a solid job. Swings and misses. Struck him out. Now a chance for Leo Pagarro. And that clips the inside corner. Two outs, but a short stop. Takes a ball. Two. One. Two in the dirt. Kicks away from the catcher. So, a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Nobody on defense feels great right now. The pitcher feels responsible for missing. so far outside and the catcher wishes he could have done more to try to stop it. Tying run in scoring position bottom half of inning number two up the middle and that is the inning. So one left for Pittsburgh and it remains one- nothing. Top half of the third inning. Here’s Elliot Ramos. Elliot Ramos. Ramos. 25 years old and he was born in Puerto Rico. Right through there for a strike. Swing. Swinging a foul out of play. That one almost got him. Straighten him up a little bit. That one the other way. Makes the grab. One down. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Raffy coming to the plate now. He’s already homerred here in this one. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. No balls, one strike. slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. One down. Base is empty. Popped up. Foul territory behind the plate. has room and he makes the catch. Will Thomas digs in now one for one with a single so far. Basketball for a strike. That one almost got him. Well, you’ve got to establish the inside part of the plate early and that sends a message not just to this hitter but to the rest of the lineup as well. Pirates. Now that’s smacked to right center. Cruz snags it on the run. Nothing doing there for San Francisco, but they hold a one- nothing lead. Ready to go for the last half of the unit. At the plate for Pittsburgh, Isaiah Tiner Fale. And that drops in for a strike. This one chopped on the ground but foul and one and two. Tough to take a two strike change up that just missed. I think it froze him. gets under and pops it up. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out and there’s one down. Back to the top of the lineup. And now the first baseman Spencer Horowitz let off the game with a strikeout. First pitch and he just misses. Swing and a ball hit out towards left center field. It gets down a base hit. One gone runner at first. At the plate, Andrew McCutchen. He’s 0 for one. And that’s in for a strike. Go and one. Tying run is at first here in the last half of the third. Next offering is down low. swing and a highf fly ball out towards right field. Puts it away for the out. Two away now. Ryan Reynolds here. Boo. This batter gets described as a homebody because he loves playing at home and historically his numbers back it up. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. Ball one. Horowitz leads off first with two down to the inning. And another ball. Two balls. No strike. Ball. O’Neal Cruz in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. So now two on and two outs. N what he wanted to do there, Boo. That keeps this inning alive and gives this offense a good chance to cut into their deficit. O’Neal Cruz the next pirate to him. and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Two on, two outs. Smoked into left field. Base hit. Headed to the plate. The throw home. It’s offline and he scores. We’re ti at one. Love how he let that ball travel, trusted his hands. Nice job of grab the other way. So, two outs with runners on the corners. Nick Gonzalez, the next Pirate to hit, and he’s already singled in this game. In the dirt, blocked. Well done behind the dish. Tied up here in the early going. Two balls, no strikes to count. Chris, with that distraction and a speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. Two balls, one strike. Two on, two outs. Swing and a fly ball. Well struck left field. High bounce takes it over the fence for an automatic double as a run scores. Well, there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that. You get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a pro or getting your uniform dirty. And now you’re just looking for the next hitter to kind of do the same thing. Maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well. And now here is Jack Sinski swing and a tapper that rolls foul. swings and misses. That is strike two. That’s inside. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Next offering in the dirt and it’s two and two. swing and a miss. Struck him out, but two runs for him and they jump ahead. Three innings complete. It’s the Pirates two and the Giants one. as we go to the top of the fourth. Now the third baseman, Matt Chapman. Matt Chapman. There’s the strike up high. It’s 0 and one. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there and have a real quick inning. Get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. A one down. Good job to fight that one off. Outside corner. Got him looking. No messing around with the pitch calling in that sequence right there. Four pitches, all fast balls. Yeah, and that makes me think that was the plan before the at bat even started. If you think you can simply just beat a guy with only your fastball, why throw him anything else until he shows you he can handle it. Now it’s Dominic Smith struck out swinging his first time. This one smashed down the right field line. That’s a fair ball and it’s getting into the corner around first. Digging for two. Throws to second and now the tying run is into scoring position. Waste no time there. He got a pitch he could get to out front, kept his bat through the ball, and didn’t pull off or roll his hands over. And that allowed him to rip that ball down the line for the double. Now here is Jung Hu Lee struck out looking his first time on the ground right side. Gonzalez to first in time and there’s two away. Well, there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there. A nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Casey Schmidt, the next to hit. Skips in and excellent work to corral that one. Could have been dangerous. Smith at third with two away. That one drifts inside. the other way. Bear ball in from third is the tying run to second. Pulls into second. That’s an RBI double. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. Go ahead run on base. Here comes Mike Gstreky to the plate. First time up was a pop out. There’s a strike. Ball game is still tied. They can get out of this inning with a tie game. Two outs and one in scoring position. one in the dirt. Tag save. He’s into third on a wild pitch. Even with a good secondary lead, sometimes it’s hard to see just how far that ball’s gotten away from the catcher. And if you can make it to third base, pretty much standing up. Well, that time he seemed to have a pretty good read, gets to third safely, and now he’s just 90 ft away from scoring. hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. The run scores from third. It’s an RBI single. It’s 32. He was all over that one. I really like that swing, man. He didn’t just push it the other way through the infield. He drove it that way. And it kind of makes me think he was thinking opposite field as he stepped into the box. Got a pitch he liked and he got it done. Runner at first with two away. Patrick Bailey will hit next. And the first pitch misses for ball one. One ball, no strikes. two runs across in the inning. Top half of inning number four. So, two balls and no strikes. Two up the middle. They take the force out. That’s out number three. But two runs for them and they jump ahead on now to the bottom of the fourth. It’s the Giants three and the Pirates two. Ready to go. Bottom four. Here’s the Pirates catcher now. Henry Davis. Davis just missed. You know, these Pirates showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. Line to left. Ramos right there to make the grab. And a quick out number one. And the batter now, Leo Pagarro, grounded out his first time. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the bowl, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. Right side, Devers sends it to first and a couple of quick outs. Here is Isaiah Ker Fa. And he takes a strike. And that one fouled off and a ground ball to first and he can’t come up with it, but they get the out of first and that’ll do it for the inning. Three up, three down for him there. We’re headed to the fifth. It’s the Giants three and the Pirates two. And we’re back. Top five, John Shabi with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, Elliot Ramos. Burrows back to work in the dirt. One and0. All these Giants, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. A handful have turned into outs. But of the balls they’ve put in play, 10 had been line drives. I say keep barreling the ball and good things will happen. Don’t let that get you frustrated. That one not close and it’s two and one line drive and that gets down for a base hit and a good start to the inning. A late jump and I think that was the difference on the play boo. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. Here’s Raphael Des. He’s already homered in this game. Got it started a little too early. Strike one. Ramos aboard here at first with nobody out. 1-1 movement in the bullpen. Andrew Heeney loosening up in case he’s called upon by Derek Shelton. Bedar also throwing. The 1-1 is fouled off. Two two in the dirt but kept close and that’s in the dirt. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Nobody out. Runner at first. On the ground at first. There’s one back to first. Double play. 363. Nicely done. For me, that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield. The first baseman has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play, and then from there completing it back to first. Really good job all the way around. Will Adamus getting ready to hit short stop takes a ball. Two down. Nobody on. Hard on the ground to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Giants go down quietly, but they still lead at 3-2. Bottom of the inning. And here’s the first baseman, Spencer Horowitz. Spencer, the wide to kick the pitch. That’s in for a strike. No ball. One strike. Oh, he gloves it. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove. But you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. Well, on the mound, very efficient, able to produce an outcome it seems like within the third or fourth pitch of just about every at bat. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. And that skips in the dirt. That one misses. And now three and two. That’s ball four. Tried another sweeper but couldn’t find his own. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Now it’s the right fielder, Brian Reynolds. And that drops in for a strike. Pretty rare location right there. Right down the middle. This guy paints the edges. I’m not sure if you’re going to see that pitch again as a hitter. That’s the ball. Squirts away a little bit. No advance. Good job behind the dish. Tying run is at first. Last half of inning number five. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Two and one. outside with a breaking ball. Oh, this counter not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Bo that off to the left and we’ll do it again. Three and two now. Shark grounder. That’s through from base hit. They fired in quickly. So, it’s first and second with only one away. Well, that may end up being an at bat we go back to later on when this game is over. He wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it. Right on time, good balanced approach and just blasted it through the infield. Now, a pretty big at bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up. Cruz in the box now. Take strike one. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. Andy O2. That one missed. Action in the San Francisco bullpen. Number 77 up and loosening in the pen. Dval also getting ready. Ground ball left side. Could be two. Offbalance feed. There’s one. And that’s two. Poetry in motion there as the second baseman turns the double play. Nice throw to first. And that’s the way to end the inning. We’re back and they make a change to start the sixth. The new pitcher, Andrew Heeney. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Matt Chapman up to the plate now. Bull for two in this one. Close but called a ball. And it’s one and0. He in his 10th season. He features a four seam fast, a slider, a change up, a curve, and he works in a sinker. Out towards right center field, Cruz on his way over. He’s got it. One up, one down. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes, they make the play perfectly. Dom Smith stands in one for two and that misses and that’s ball one. Missed inside with the curb. Curve ball kind of backed up on him there. I think it just slid out of the hand a little bit too soon. Base is empty. One away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run it. Finished a little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, get a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. One down. Base is empty. Fought off. Foul. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Hanging in there pretty good against the lefty. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Two down, base is empty. And here is Jung Hu Lee. That misses and that is ball one. Pirates. No. Inside. Two out. Base is empty. Swung on. Belted. Reynolds going back. And that one is off the top of the wall now around second. Going for third. He’s not stopping. On his way home. There’s the tag. They get him. And that’s the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. We go to the bottom half of inning number six. And the 567 slots do up. It’s the Giants three and the Pirates two. And welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom of the sixth inning at the plate for Pittsburgh. Nick Gonzalez. Fast for a strike. You know, this guy’s great speed is in the back of that pitcher’s mind. If he can get on, it’s going to give him one more thing he’s got to think about. You’ll one one action in the pen down there. Spencer Bivvens getting ready to come in for Bob Melvin. Gage, a left-hander also throwing. And there’s a base hit. having himself a really nice game at the plate. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. And now let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. And now Jack Sinski right through there for a strike. that misses the zone and one and one. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. is a 1-1. Fouled off. He was late with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Ca strikes him out for the second time today. And here’s the catcher, Henry Davis. Henry Davis. Little bit low in there at the knees. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stand on that double play. And that one fouled off and a one-two and that one lifted in the air center field. Lee in and to his right. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out and there’s two away. And stepping in is the speedy Leo Pagarero. Has grounded out a couple of times. In for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Now, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. No ball. Two strikes. Strikes him out. Went with the sweeper and it worked. So one hit is all they get. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the Giants three and the Pirates two. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, David Bednar. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Well, one-run game and digging in for San Francisco, Casey Schmidt. And a foul ball. The one And that just misses. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Honest. It’s a strike out. Came inside with that two- strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put him away. Did a nice job right there. And now Mikey and a first pitch fast. He’s in for a strike. And there’s a ball right through there for a strike. And that’s way high. Two and two. Good eye right there. Really good take especially with two strikes. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball but missed the spot. runner on at first with one gone. Patrick Bailey, the next Giant to hit. This guy one of the best defensive catchers going. You talk about framing, the ability to block, catch, and throw. He is at the top of the game. That one misses. Ball one. Really good athlete. And many times we talk about, you know, the feet of infielders. this catcher as well. Really quick feet. He’s able to recognize to second. There’s one and that’s two. So they go quietly there. Seventh inning stretch time. It’s the Giants three and the Pirates two. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Spencer Bivvens. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. Isaiah Kinder Fa up to the plate. really impressive with the way he frames, the way that he sets it up because sometimes those pitches are off the plate, but because he sets up and presents it so well, he still strikes for his pitcher. And that one fouled off. looking to get the tying run on base. Swing and a miss. Ugly swing right there. Next offering way off the plate. O2 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. Next offering misses. Two balls, two strikes. The count. That’s a really good take. Line drive to short and caught. Spencer Horowitz, the next Pirate to hit. One for three. It immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. One down, base is empty. comes up empty. That’s strike two. No ball. Two strikes. Swings threw it and that’s a strike out. Here’s Andrew McCutchen to hit. Andrew McCussen. First offer misses badly for ball one. Late swing fouled off. Swing and a miss. And it’s one and two. Man, that was pretty gross right there. In the air, left field down the line. He’s there. He’s got it. And that’s the inning. Offense held in check there. We look ahead to inning number eight. It’s the Giants three and the Pirates two. Back here in Pittsburgh ready to begin the eighth. Here’s the left fielder Elliot Ramos. Bednar back to work right side hard hit and he takes it himself for the out. Now batting Raphael Raphael De up to him. He had a big swing for these guys way back in the first inning. Yeah, Boo. He didn’t waste any time in this one. The solo shot really got his team going and he’s looking for more right here. Yeah, the pitch is in for a strike. One and one. I think he was sitting off speed right there because he just let the fast ball go by. And a strike to DeS. Absolutely frozen on that heater right down the middle. And that’s a pitch you’re just not getting back. Now he’s in a tough spot, especially after falling behind on a good first pitch. Had a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. Just blown away in that at bat. Three fast balls, all strikes. He wasn’t even able to foul one off. There’s not much you can take away from an at bat like that as a hitter other than maybe there’s something wrong with your eyes. Got to have better timing on the fast ball next time. Adamus stands in now and watches strike one. There’s a swing and a try and one hops off the wall. Should be extra bases. Throw to second. Not in time. He’s there easily. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. That’s a good sound coming off the bat, man. And as he connected out front and lifted into the outfield, that’s one of those swings where you just don’t even feel the ball hit the barrel. That’s a pure stroke. So, runner at second, two down. Now it’s Matt Chapman 0 for three in this one. And that one upstairs. Ball one. Ball. Squirts away a little bit. And that finds the mark on the outside corner. And it’s two and one now. Ground ball right side and that’s just fouled. man at second. 99 miles per hour to finish him off. No runs, one hit, a double, no errors, and one man left. Last half of the eighth coming up, it’s the Giants three and the Pirates two. Back here at PNC Park out of the bottom of the eighth, digging in is the switch in outfielder Brian Reynolds. Bounce to the right. Schmid and he handles it himself for the out. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks. Partner O’Neal Cruz now at the plate. He’s someone that you might not describe as having elite level speed, but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game. and fouled off. Boo, this guy’s definitely a plus runner, but what I love about him is that he goes all out every single time. Never takes a break. It’s guys like that, even though they don’t have the elite speed, the fact that they’re consistent with it, they make moves on the base paths. Trying to hold a one-run lead here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Just missed. If he’s able to connect on that, look out. Misses the zone for a ball. That was the sweeper. drilled in the air high and deep right field. That’s back there. Hits the top of the wall around second. Dig it for third and he gets there. The tying runs at third with a triple. A perfect example right there. that plate discipline, it pays off. The deeper he gets into account, the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the battle. So the tying run in scoring position now. Gonzalez digs in now. Three for three with two singles and a double. Swing and a ground ball out to short to the plate. Safe and we are tied. One down, runner at first. Jack Sinski will hit next. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. headed towards the corner. Ramos racing to the right. Brings it in. Runner tagging from first. Applies the tag and they get two. Double play. Bang bang play and the inning is over. Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Dennis Santana. This guy’s a strikethrower. He’s done an excellent job of avoiding walks so far this season. Now it’s the DH, Dominic Smith. outside. Ball one. And it’s fouled off. Next pitch misses inside. Now two balls in a strike. drilled to right way back there and that is gone. Third home run of the season. It’s 43. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. Looks like this guy was looking out over the plate, but he was ready to turn on the inside. Fast ball. So direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ballpark. Jung Hun Lee getting ready to hit. That one’s in there. It’s 0 and one. Always exciting to see a lead off home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. Santana measures 6’2 in 190 lbs and he was born in the Dominican Republic. Then he really sells the change up with that arm action. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. And that’s off the inside edge. And the count is one and two. Spoils a two strike pitch. He’ll see another. And he couldn’t hold back. He’s run up on strikes. And up next for San Francisco, Casey Schmidy. And the first pitch misses in the dirt. One out. Base is empty and a run in here in the top of the ninth. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even. Slider misses outside. There’s a swinging miss. Talk about tying a guy up. That was ugly. One down. Base is empty. Stays alive. struck him out looking. Mike Estreky, the second MLB Yes. steps in. Chopped to the left side. Connor Falefa in plenty of time to first and the inning is over. It’s a run for the Giants on the solo blast. It’s now a 43 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back now and on the mound the closer Randy Rodriguez. He comes in with a chance for his second save of the season. Randy Rodriguez. Well, one-run game and now the catcher comes up to hit Henry Davis. So important to stay within yourself, especially for this hitter. not known to be a power guy or a home run hitter. He needs to set the table by getting on with a walk or a base hit. Fast ball is outside. One ball, no strike, just off the inside edge. Oh, an interesting situation. In one swing, you can tie up the ball game. But if you’re patient and work a wall, then you bring the game-winning run to the plate. That one’s in there now. Two balls in a strike. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. One-run game, bottom nine. And now the count is full. And another power hitter lurking in the on deck circle. Leova Pagarero in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here and the tying run is on base. They’re not ready to go home quite yet. No outs. runner at first and now the shorts stop Leo Pagarro and there’s no doubt that they’ll feed off the energy from this crowd right I mean yeah I’d say the intensity level has gone up a few notches for sure just missed And that is out of play. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Check swing. Now we’ll look down to first. Ah, and he punches him out. He went around. He’s two outs away. Isaiah Kiner Falefa, the next Pirate to hit. You got the number nine hole hitter right here looking to do whatever he can to get on base, turn this lineup over so the best hitters in this lineup have a chance to tie up the ball game or maybe even walk it off. Fought off foul with the winning run at the plate there. The home team trying to pull it out. called out on strikes and the Pirates with only one out left. Next to hit, Spencer Horowitz struck out on just three pitches last time. Spencer, typically the outfield defense will play a little bit deeper just to keep the ball in front, make sure that runner on first doesn’t come all the way around to score and tie this ball game up. the 01 and there’s a hit. Throw in holds the lead runner at second. Two on now with two away. These guys today are so great with handling velocity. They’re seeing high speeds day after day and a nice job of turning that one around. Bottom of the ninth, one-run game, two on. Here’s McCutchen down to their final out, but an opportunity to deliver the tying and maybe even a winning run. And that one fouled off. So, the tying run at second. This one chopped on the ground but foul. Rodriguez is just one strike away. Line drive and this might be trouble and that’ll pick off the base of the wall. One runs in coming home now. A relay to the plate. Across is the winning run and the Pirates walk it off 54. In this situation, this guy’s looking to put the ball in play and find a hole somewhere. Well, he did exactly that. Drives into a very cool walk-off win. Close one here today and your final 54 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
