SGA proudly reps his hometown as he brings the Larry O’Brien trophy to Hamilton, Ontario | “People would always ask me where I was from. Some of my teammates and would often say Toronto because it’s more recognized…I took pride in letting everyone know I was from Hamilton.”

  1. SGA wearing the Canadian flag around his waist during the Championship parade was awesome

  2. This is real as fuck. I too am guilty of saying I’m from Toronto whenever I’m outside of Canada but who tf is gonna know where Mississauga is?

  3. Man us canadian basketball fans went from complete pain and misery to 2019 and now this.

  4. SGA stayed in Canadian high school for grade 9 and 10 too.

Only went to US high school last 2.years which is somewhat rare

    So hes full Canadian product

  5. It’s kinda funny to me the Larry O’Brien trophy was paraded down the streets of Fort Smith, Ark with Jaylin Williams and Isaiah Joe before it made it to the hometown of their MVP. I get the why with scheduling logistics and Hamilton making a much bigger deal of it coming but still kind of funny

  6. Man, I read this all wrong. I thought it said “SGA proudly *rips* his hometown” and I was like “oh no, he’s turned heel!”

  7. I got to high five him. He walked by with his head down and hands up for high fives, but didn’t stop for any pictures or autographs.

  8. Meanwhile in Montreal, Lou Dort witnessed Mboko win the Canadian tennis final.

    Edit: a word

  9. Yeah the pictures I saw of him were from grade nine and ten. They put up a big mural of him too during the playoffs but someone tore it down during the finals I think.

  10. First pro game I ever saw was in Hamilton, and I’m from the Caribbean .

Was walking around the mall in the summer of ‘94 while visiting family and this lady walks up to 12 year old me and my cousin with the largest stack of tickets you’ve ever seen and says “you’ll want tickets to see Dream Team II play this afternoon”. I was a B-Ball fanatic back then (no longer so) and took two.

Found my aunt and my other cousin and realised that we needed two more tickets. Tracked her down in the mall and got two more. The arena was connected to the mall.

12 year old me watched Dream Team II play from the 5th row at the half way line. Got Ahmad Rashad’s autograph which was the last autograph I ever got as I realised that I have no use for them.

Shawn Kemp got rejected by the rim on a monster dunk early in the game and some say that the ball is still up in the rafters. Good times.

  11. I love SGA so damn much. Dude is truly a one of a kind individual, and he seems unbelievably authentic.
