New York Jets vs Green Bay Packers PREVIEW! | Preseason Week 1
All right, guys. So, the first preseason game of the season is officially here tomorrow night, Saturday, 8:00. I mean, we’ve already seen a handful of games, but Jets Packers, the Aaron Glenn era starts tomorrow. I understand it’s not regular season, but man, if you’re a Jet fan, you are freaking fired up for this game, right? The storylines, the young players, how do these schemes look? Albeit, it’s going to be like a watered down version obviously because it’s preseason, but I cannot wait, man. I seriously cannot wait. But, uh, yeah, as you know, it’s preseason, so as far as like game preparation, how to attack the Packers defense, all that stuff is kind of, you know, it’s just up in the air. We’re going to get a vanilla defense, uh, anyway. So really like the the goal of preseason, iron out the kinks of your team, get these guys experience, get these guys reps, es I mean it’s so so important for the it’s important for every team, but for the Jets specifically, and it goes for, you know, all these teams with new coaches as well, getting guys experience with these new play callers, understanding the verbiage, understanding where you need to be, how to line up, just getting in and out of the huddle, uh all that kind of stuff. This is a showcase opportunity for the Jets. And you know, according to Aaron Glenn here, we are going to see the starters. For how long, we don’t know. But these guys will be out there. And I think the Packers are a really, really good test in this first week. Why? Because a they’re obviously really, really well coached. I love Matt Lafleur. I’ve been a big Matt Laflur fan for a long, long time. And the Packers are, I mean, man, they’re just in such great hands with Laflur at the helm. And Green Bay has actually had a really solid training camp, right? some standout performers. Nate Hobbs, new uh newcomer corner coming in in free agency. Lucas Van Ness has been a standout young defensive lineman, former first round pick. But it really seems like Matt Golden has been the standout performer. Like he’s living up to the hype of being this first round pick, wide receiver coming in. We all know that the Packers don’t really do this. Um it’s it’s more so focused on the trenches and whatnot. like Green Bay has a type. Green Bay has a type of player that they want and they typically just don’t go after wide receivers in the first round, but but Matt Golden was their choice. He kind of slipped to them uh in the 20s and the Packers said, “Hey, you know what? Let’s do it. Let’s not look back.” And so far, he has been awesome through Green Bay training camp. And so really the bottom line is again, Green Bay is well coached. They’re a well-ran organization. They have a bunch of really good players. I don’t know really if the starters are going to be playing for Green Bay at the time of this recording, but whether the starters are out there or not, you know, it’s going to be a good test because of how well ran, how well coached Green Bay is. It’s a welloiled machine. So, it’s going to be a really good litmus test for the Jets. How does this team, bunch of new faces, bunch of new new things happening, new systems, new coaches, new play callers, how do they stack up against one of the league’s best teams? uh albeit it’s preseason. Now, a couple players that I’m most looking forward to, of course, Justin Fields up at the top of the list. How quickly is he rattling off plays, getting up to the line of scrimmage, processing pre- snap, once the ball is snapped, is he processing the watered down Jeff Halfley defense because it’s preseason, or is he maybe a little overwhelmed, one read and run? Like there’s a lot that we just don’t know about Justin Fields with this new Jets offensive scheme because it’s not only just Fields learning it, but it’s also Tanner Ringstrand calling it for the first time. You know, Tanner hasn’t been an NFL OC before where he’s, you know, full-on play calling duties. Is he going to be up in the box? Is he going to be down on the field? Um there’s a lot of really, and this is why I was such a big proponent of the starters playing in the first place. There’s so many like hidden nuance storylines that you can talk about. Um, like what happens if Tanner, again, the the system can be an A+ system, Justin Fields can be, you know, an A+ quarterback, who knows? But if Tanner’s play calls are coming in late, if he can’t get plays into the huddle, there’s going to be issues. So, we have this prime opportunity on Saturday night to figure out what we’re good at, figure out areas of improvement, and potentially address mistakes, address areas of concern that you’re not really thinking about throughout the week. What happens if um you know, maybe Aaron Glenn has a decision to override a play call or override something that he doesn’t want to do? How quickly is that process happening? the tannering strand has not been an OC rattling in place to Aaron Glenn as the head coach before. Yeah, they’ve worked together, but they haven’t actually, you know, we haven’t seen them execute that on a, you know, on an NFL field. And you can make that same point for the defense, right? What happens if Steve Wils is calling plays and I don’t know, it’s the opposite. He’s calling them too fast. He’s he’s uh expecting a little too much from Jam and Sherwood this early in camp. And Jam Sherwood’s like, “Hey, hold on a second. I you know I have to maybe take a take an extra second to process then to rattle it out rattle it out to the defense and then of course Monday these issues can be addressed and then everyone can kind of get back on the same page. So again I think this game is going to be a great litmus test. It can potentially iron out some uh issues. It can highlight what we do well and it could reveal hidden strengths or weaknesses that this football team has. So I can’t wait to see how the offense looks, how Justin looks. But outside of fields, I’m curious to see how this offensive line uh performs. Right, Green Bay, you know that they have a lot of power on that defensive line. Armanu, top 10 pick. He’s had a pretty impressive camp so far, all things considered, going up against W McDonald and whatnot. But in the running game, Meu has been great. And of course, you know, we do have future preseason games against the Giants and the Eagles, one joint practice, one joint practice against the Giants. But uh this week specifically against Green Bay, it’s your first crack, right? First crack at the bat. Let’s see how this running game translates. It’s been a big story line all camp. Can they move this Packers defensive line around a little bit? And again, who knows if the starters are going to be out there, but if we can just lay out some positive tape like, hey, we’re doing this every day in practice. The running game is what we want to build this offense around. We’re seeing it every single day. we get to the first preseason game against the Packers and then boom, we’re having a ton of a ton of success. That would be a huge W. As far as wide receiver two is concerned, can maybe someone separate themselves from the pack, right? Think back years ago, Robbie Anderson, undrafted free agent coming out of Temple. He really bursts out onto the scene in preeason, scorching by corners, getting in the end zone for TDs. Like, everyone’s looking around. Robbie, who who’s Robbie Anderson? He was just brought in. How does he look like an NFL veteran? Flying by, guys. And lo and behold, he made the team. You know, preseason is such a great showcase opportunity for these younger guys. Whether you’re a high-end draft pick like Meu, you know, Aari Thomas who’s injured, Mason Taylor, who’s injured, but you know, whether you’re a high-end draft pick or an undrafted free agent, you have a shot. You have an opportunity to turn heads to make plays. And speaking of those undrafted free agents, we’ve had a couple of standout performers. Number one, Brady Cook. He’s been quietly having a nice camp. Nick Ferry has actually been all over this, right? He continues to talk about Brady Cook making positive strides, taking steps in the right direction. The Jets opted to pass on all the rookie quarterbacks, right? Shador Sanders falling, all these different guys, Riley Leonard, Kyle McCord, all these late round guys um that ended up going. The Jets passed and they felt pretty good about Brady Cook. He was actually one of the highest rated uh undrafted free agents in the pool when the draft officially ended and the Jets were able to scoop him up. I think part of the reason why they didn’t go after a quarterback is because they liked Brady Cook that much. So to hear these positive updates, that’s obviously great. But let’s see it translate on the field, right? Right? Cuz if Brady Cook can impress, if he’s putting the ball in play and looks comfortable, he doesn’t look like a deer in headlights. And I’m not expecting the guy to be perfect or anything, but can he show signs of positivity and success? Because if he does, if if Brady Cook looks like impresses for three straight preseason games and he’s on the practice squad, I I would honestly feel really really good about that. Um, you know, just as a Jet fan here. the other undrafted free agents, Peyton Paige turning heads at the defensive tackle position. Quiddy Williams is currently hurt, right? What’s going on with Byron Cohort? He’s currently hurt. Maybe more opportunities, maybe more reps for a guy in Pton Page who’s been impressing. Who else? Pritchard at the wide receiver position. Could maybe him and Brady Cook get on the same page early and we can see some impressive like flashy types of plays there. That would be really cool. Donovan Edwards at the running back position. Someone who I’m excited to see with an NFL helmet on. Really liked his skill set back at Michigan kind of this do it all back. You know, how does he look? And then someone else who I’m really looking forward to uh has had some standout days. Not an undrafted free agent in this cycle, but the previous draft class, Jarius Monroe, safe well coming out of Tulain. He was a corner, but safety now for the Jets. Supposedly working with Aaron Glenn, Steve Wils. he’s been like improving at a pretty solid rate. Can Monroe carry the impressive training camp performances over to the game on Saturday night? And so, let’s take a look at a couple matchups as well, right? Because the Packers are pretty deep at some specific rooms. Uh, one of which is tight end. Another position where Green Bay just has a lot of young talent. Wide receiver Reed Doss, Christian Watson coming back from the ACL, newcomer Matt Golden, right? Green Bay, it they just feel stocked full of young, talented wide receivers. And on one hand, I’m looking forward to the matchup. How do these wide receivers, of course, minus Christian Watson, how do they all do against the Jets corner room? Because I feel I would say right now the cornerback position for the Jets is the deepest position on the team. I feel the best like if I could look at any position on the team and feel the the most maybe comfortable or relaxed, it’s corner. you know, if someone were to go down, I I feel really good about the depth of the position. How do our young guys stack up against Green Bay’s young guys? Um, but also the other side of the coin, the Jets could, we all know that this team could use another wide receiver. We’ve talked about Terry McLuren, we’ve talked about Amari Cooper, Keenan Allen now off the board, Gabe Davis has been a name that’s been thrown out, not by, you know, reporters or anything, but just amongst fans. Um, Jawan Jennings, a big big fan of Jawan Jennings. I think that makes a ton of sense for this Jets squad. But what about Green Bay, right? Matt Golden, obviously, you know, he’s going to be here for the long haul. Uh, Reed, very, very impressive. And Romeo Dobs and Christian Watson are both nearing the end of their contracts. So, again, Watson’s not going to be out there, but could the Jets get a firsthand look? We’ve already brought in one former Packer and Josh Meyers, Aaron Glenn going up against uh, you know, Meyers in previous years. He was impressed with his play. Could Darren Muji be lurking in the shadows, right? Was scouting these these Packers wide receivers, seeing specifically how they go up against the Jets corners, how they go up against this Jets defense? Now, of course, Green Bay would have to be open to trading them. This is kind of like a deep rabbit hole here. But uh and also too like if you are the Packers, why like this is a win now football team with high expectations. Why would you trade like a win now piece at the wide receiver position? We all know these win now teams need depth. Look at the Detroit Lions. What you know what all those injuries did to them last season. But if they get a good offer, if the Jets are blown away with one of these guys, and it might not just be like overall production, but just like how they’re move like the eye test. If one of these guys are maybe passing the eye test, could Darren Muji potentially phone in and offer a mid-round pick for one of these guys? And also too from Green Bay’s perspective, what’s the realistic uh maybe likelihood that they’re going to be handing out extensions for Christian Watson, Romeo Dobs, Matt Golden’s on a rookie deal. Reed, I would say, is one of the most impressive or probably from what we’ve seen so far the most impressive out of the bunch in my opinion. Not to mention Dantavian Wixs and Savon Williams, right? Savon Williams was just scooped up in this year’s class. So, you know, this Packers team that had a handful of young wide receivers on their roster went out and drafted two more. So, if they could potentially get ahead of one of these guys walking, whoever it may be, uh, do they want to maybe just flip them now for a draft pick? It’s an interesting question for sure to throw out there. I don’t know if the Packers would be open to listening to deals, but I do feel like when you’re just chocked full of talent at one specific spot and you don’t know if you’re going to bring all of these guys back on rookie deals because there’s only one football that goes around. And we also know too, Matt Laflur, I would say, is a pretty balanced offensive coordinator. He doesn’t really lean one way too heavily. He likes to be open. He likes to have this kind of balanced attack. And Josh Jacobs is an absolute stud. So, you know, there’s going to be a lot of running. They’re not going to completely abandon it. This is not going to be like the Jets of last season where they’re, you know, top two, three in pass attempts and they’re just hardly running the football at all. I I think it’s going to be a nice blend of of passing and running. So, I don’t know. We’ll see. We’ll see how it plays out. But anyway, let me know your thoughts down below in the comments section. What are you looking forward to most about Saturday? Can’t wait. As always, thanks so much for watching and go Jets. [Music]

Tyler is special fr . Jets jets jets let's go
Stuff the run
Ian uploading a preview jets game? Yep we are back
Excited to see the young guys go to work
It is just so nice to see Glen using the pre season to get his players already. Saleh reminded me of the kid who gets a ton of toys to play with, who sits there just looking at them because he is afraid they will break.
I would like to see the D starters against GB, but I suspect they won't play.
With the O I want them in there to give themselves a chance to fell as a unit, and to face real opponents. Agree with what Ian is saying about Engstrand, this is where joint practice isnt the same thing despite what Saleh thought.
I kind of like a quarter this week, half next week then third week is the blob.
Here is what I am looking for:
1) o line pass blocking and run blocking
2) lack of penalties or stupid plays
3) tackling on the defense
4)play calls done quickly
5)coaches actively involved with the players on the sidelines
6)Isiah Davis running and pass catching ,same with breez
7) receivers other than Wilson getting open, making plays
8) backup o line play
9) how aggressive are the players? Do players all seem to be playing like their job depends on it? Is Glenn active, not looking like someone id'ing on Valium?
Basically does the game give me the impression it isn't same old Jets.
Everyone get your sea legs back have some fun but do not get hurt!
As Always Go Jets!
It's basically a glorified practice seeing who's who
I thought I just saw something saying Wicks and Doubs have two of the worst drop rates in the league. Not sure we want smaller, albeit quicker, versions of Allen Lazard
Always seems like you're hyping up other teams…😅
get a win, GO JETS!
Same here been can’t wait
So excited to see the starters play as well as the backups. Love how Glenn is playing the starters very smart move. Let’s get after it! Go Jets!!😊
