Have the Edmonton Oilers gotten better or worse this off season? | Oilers update
You’re looking at guys like Matthew Seavoy to obviously take a step. Like what is Noah Phelp at the NHL level? When does Zack Heyman come back from his injury? I don’t think he’s going to start the season and that’s going to be a problem. Like what does Vasil Pod Coulson do to become a more consistent scoring forward and I think that’s a big thing for this team is like they’re definitely going to have to wait for guys to show up. But the good news is is they have Leandre and Conor McDavid on their teams and that should help them out pretty well. And Naim said they’re not a deep forward group. I It’s interesting because I think by name value, yes, they’re probably not as deep, but like I think there’s upside there though. Yeah, totally. Like a guy like Matthew Seavoy, like and one thing I think will help his team in a way too is the lack of expectation in a way. Like no one’s expecting Mania to go off and have this incredible season, but if he scores 15 goals next season, it’s just the same as what Jeff Skinner and Victor Robson both did. we just expected those guys to score 20 or 25 goals. And I think it’s the same thing with Seavoi. I I think they’re a little bit I think they’re a little bit worse, but not by a lot. And I think it’s because they lost guys like Brown more than lost guys like Arverson and Jeff Skinner. I think Brown as a fourthline player in C instead of Casper Kaepern is a huge upgrade on the team. So that’s where I kind of look at things. I think a blue line is is shaped to go off and do very good things this season. Like I I think it’s being very undervalued that I know Sten Bowman said EK was healthy which was a crazy comment to me considering Conor McDavid said he was suffering with a significant groin injury. So that’s always something uh by reports as well. I was listening to Bob show too and he said that Jake Walman was a bit knocked up in the cup final as well. Like I think injuries eventually just caught up to this team so much that we’re forgetting how dominant they were through the Western Conference. Think about all the games they played, right? Back to back Stanley Cup final and then you know you have Conor McDavid and a handful of other players as well. The four nations like it’s been a long stretch of time for the Oilers here. Not much time off. So I mean you think about the regular season and it’s like are we going to see the best version of the Oilers through from October to February the entire time? No, probably not. This is a team again that’s played a ton of games. So, I think all that really matters ultimately is how good does this team look come March and April. What position are they in to add? And I think they’re in a a fine spot flexibility wise, and that’s what matters. It’s not about winning July 1st. And I said this the other day on after the after the free agency kind of wrapped up, I guess, a busy part of it. Um, look at what Florida did last July 1. They signed Bowquist, Jess Boquist, and Adam Boowquist. Actually a couple of days after AJ Greer believe they got um the other fourthline player on the team Thomas Nok. Yeah they lost they lost Brandon Monour. They lost Ecman Lawson Terasenko. That whole fourth line was all gone. Anthony Stolars as well another guy like they did not go out and improve their team to like significant margins. That is not why they got the Stanley Cup. They got Seth Jones. They facilitated that trade during the season. They were able to Brad. Yeah. Brad Marshawn, of course, like there’s a lot that goes into what Florida was able to do last year because of Aaron Eckplad getting suspended and Matthew Tachuk going on the long-term injured reserve. I mean, they did get some help, I’ll say. I mean, yeah, to say the least, but that but it does fit the narrative of you don’t have to be the July 1 team. Last year it was the Nashville Predators who we all thought were going to be the team. They had, you know, Steve Stamos, Jonathan Marsheso, and uh Brady Sheay on the blue line. We thought, wow. And even the Oilers last year, like the guys they signed, Arvdson, great. Everybody thought, “Wow, what? This is the most exciting free agency day the Oilers have had since they signed Ben Eager and Darcy Horich and Eric Balange and and so many times you had these these players in July 1 and you know, sometimes players get their contract and then they aren’t the same player. That’s just the way it goes.” So again, I think the Oilers are in a good spot to make those inseason improvements and that’s like we saw with Florida last year and even with Edmonton, like Jake Walman, think about that that that addition in season. Nobody was talking about the Oilers getting Jake Walman in July of last year and they went and get him in March and he’s a very good top four Dman. We haven’t seen much from Trent Frederick, but it’s the same thing. Like we weren’t really talking much last year about, oh yeah, maybe the others will go and get Trent Frederick, like a a versatile center/winger who’s physical, can score some goals. It It’s one of those things that just materialized during the season. What’s up, Nation citizens? The big question this summer: did the Edmonton Oilers actually get better during the offseason? With additions in Curtis Lazar and Andrew Mangiapane, and a bit more cap flexibility after moving Evander Kane, the Oilers focused on adding secondary scoring and reliable depth while keeping their core intact for another run.
Today, Liam and Cam debated whether these moves were enough to take the Oilers to the next level, how the roster stacks up against the rest of the Western Conference, and what Edmonton still needs to do if they want to bring the Stanley Cup back to Oil Country.
Do you think the Edmonton Oilers have gotten better?

No team arrives in Finals not playing with injuries.
Losing Perry and Brown hurts.
They still don't have Cup level Goaltending and Defense.
Trade Deadline will determine the season and possibly even McDavid resigning.
Lose this year.. No way McDavid signs to serve 26-27 season w/ Skinner/Pickard haha
Wouldnβt Lazar be in over Phelp. Or even maybe Hutson, or Oreilly?
McDavid and 29 not enough to much money spent on two players the rest of the roster is ass there done.
Have we completely forgotten the European players we signed a while back?
Really? Worse is the obvious answer.
wirsey
Hey it is pronounced Mon Jah Pawn Eh.
What a dumb question, we lost Perry, Kane, Klingberg, Skinner, Brown and Arvidson from our starting line up and replaced them with Mangiapane and Lazar…….of course we are worse, our depth is non existent now
i don't believe the Oilers are improved overall compared to last season's team! The goal tending is the same! The Defence is the same minus Klingberg! The goal tending and the defence ,against Florida ,were not good enough! The Oilers in the bottom six are not as good as last season in my opinion! Bowman still has a few months till training camp so things can change!
I don't think the Oilers have done much to add to their scoring depth, find a top level talent to play with Leon on the second line or do much with the defense except to pay 2 of them 20 million a season. The goal tending is what it is. There isn't any cap space to improve it so 2.6 million for a starting goalie seems like a steal in this league. If the other 2 areas had been greatly improved then we wouldn't need goalie heroics when the team in front only plays 20 of 60 minutes.
We're going to find out how much McDavid actually wants to win when we see how much he signs for. If he doesn't take a pay cut, he isn't really serious about winning. You can get that bag, or you can get that cup. His lacklustre play in the finals proved that he cant have both.
I don't care what justification you have for Bowen. He just hack the team in half. The guy is betting on nobodies.
You lost J.skinner 16G , Arvidsson 15G, Perry 19G and Brown 13G. And what did we get ? We just look way way worse than last year.
Lost; Kane,Brown,Perry,Arvidsson, jSkinner,Klingberg,Ryan.. & Holloway,Broberg prior yr.
Added; Mangiopane is 3rd line (15g), Lazar 4th, & Savoie & Philp AHL… so can't expect them to replace what is lost. RNH is often a poor scorer & short 2 top6 wingers.
The low pay helps offset the jCampbell fiasco.. & what appears to be the Frederic $32m fiasco… Better?? Coach will have to teach/ enforce improved position & effort.
