Cubs vs. Cardinals Game Highlights (8/8/25) | MLB Highlights
The future Hall of Famer, number four, Yachty Armina, back in a Cardinals uniform, taking a lineup card out to home plate. Oh man, this gives me goosebumps. Cardinals fans cheering him, giving him a standing ovation at Bush Stadium. Michael McGrevy coming off a win in San Diego. Yeah, that was a big win. As we talked about earlier, the fact that he was able to really settle in innings four, five, and six, he was hyper aggressive. So, Michael McGrevy got a chance to set this long homestead off on the right foot. Two down, no score, just underway. The batter is Kyle Tucker. That is hard hit and a base hit into right field. Here is Ian Hap. The pitch to Hap. Swung on and foul tipped into the catcher mid. Strike three. Hap strikes out leaving Tucker on. Left-hander Matthew Boyd having a phenomenal season. You simply can’t pitch much better than Boyd has pitched all season long. He is 11 and4. A glittering ERA of 2.34. Faces the Cardinals for the third time this season. He’s 2 and0 against him. The Cardinals have not put up a run against him so far this year. Brandon Donovan will get the Cardinals offense started here in the first inning. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And here is Ivon Herrera. One, two, swing and a miss. Struck him out and that’s the change up. Two away. Line drive right field and Tucker out to a knee and he makes the catch. Pico Armstrong, a left-handed batting center fielder. And that one right back at McGrevy who caught that right in the center of his chest. Everybody’s going to check on Michael. That came off the bat hot chip. That was over 104 miles an hour. All smiles right now for Michael. Here’s Carson Kelly now. Line drive. Base hit into left field. Burles it over to collect that one. Kelly will take the turn and he’ll hang on at first. Here’s Nicoer. Swing and a ground ball up the middle and it gets through. And Nicoer with a two out knock. And the Cubs have two men on, two down, no score. Second inning. Here’s Dansby Swanson. He swings and drives the ball to right field backing up Walker who’s there and makes the catch about two steps away from the warning track. Swanson lines out leading two on Boyd to Berles cuz he can do that. First Cardinal hit. Berles takes Boyd the other way. A leadoff single now. Mason win hitting in the number five spot on the ground. That’s a fair ball past Castro off the side wall. Burley on his way to third. Mason slides in with a double. Terrific at bat by Mason. We win. Eight pitches. Second and third. Nobody out. And Jordan Walker three for his last five. On the ground deep short. Dansby Swanson drops it. A run is in. Walker comes through. It’s one to nothing. This 108 mph off the bat of Jordan Walker. Dansby Swanson gets leather on it. Saves a run probably with the speed of Mason Win. The Cardinals on the scoreboard finally against Matthew Boyd. Here’s Thomas and Jaci. Back to the mound. Freezes the runner back and a lob to first. Almost too late. Cardinals might take a look at this. He looked Mason Wind back and then lobbed a throw to first. So JC busting down the line. The Cardinals are going to challenge this. After the review of the call, the field is overturned. The runner is safe. The bases are loaded with nobody on. The Cardinals are set up for a big inning. Swing and a miss. Pah is gone. And now it’s Hamson. Hson has been 0 for five headto-head with Boyd the 1-1. Ground ball glove to the plate for one. Back to first two and they turn the one, two, three. And the Cardinals manage just one run out of all that. Fly out to center, fly out to right, fly out to left. Good work by McGrevy. And we go to the bottom of the third inning. One- nothing St. Louis. Meet my new best friend Bradley from Palm Beach, Florida. 13 years old. Became a fan of the umpires when he went to a Marlins game in Florida and his dad said, “What are you looking at?” And he said, “I’m watching the umpires between innings.” Here’s Ben May to Bradley. Hey. Hey. Yeah. Ground ball hit sharply to short fielded by Swanson. his throw across in time to get a hustling Contraras. Cardinals go down in order here in the third. At half struck out, swinging his first time and a line drive sliced down into left center and then a touchdown for a hit. Leadoff man is aboard and Hap got to second on a buck. Now he’s at third as PCA does a nice job of advancing the tying run 90 ft. Kelly just needs to put it in play somewhere now on the ground. Hot shot to third. Pegg to the plate and plenty of time. Kelly hits a rocket to Thomas JC and he makes a perfect throw for the second out. Not a close play at the plate. Well done. There’s a break for the Cardinals. Alec Burles who singled and scored the game’s only run and there’s a looper into left field. That’s going to be a hit. Now, this is regional cable television. You will be getting your big league debut on TV. All right, so make these calls. Get that mask on right here. Two-2. Popped up. Bradley, sorry you didn’t get to make the strikeout call. You, sir, are phenomenal. And right here in St. Louis, a major league umpire is born. Cubs have a man on. Gansby Swanson, the batter, but oh, that one finds space in right field. down a run but threatening with Michael Bush at the plate. Swing and a miss. Big strike out. Change up. Say a Suzuki 0 for two tonight. Popped him up. Donnie drips out. He says he’s got it. And McGrevy gets the second out. And it’ll be left up to Kyle Tucker. Swing and a hot shot right center. That is trouble. But Hson’s going to get there and that will retire the side on the ground deep short. Dansby Swanson offbalance throw and that’ll pull BCH off the bag. Let’s see if Hamson can deliver. Nice bunt. Throw to second is going to sailing to center. The Cardinals have something going first and second. Nobody out in the top of the order of shows. Bunt got it down. It dies on the grass. Sports throw is just in time. Second and third. One out. Ivon Herrera. High fly to center. Co Armstrong settles behind the runner at third. He’s going to tag. The throw is off target and Herrera with a sack fly to make it two nothing. Wilson Contrarus is next. Line drive left field base hit. Here comes Hson around third. Perhaps throw will be cut off. And now they’ve got Contrarus in a run down between first and second and he’ll be tagged out. But how about the Cardinals? Couple of sacrifice punts, a sack fly, and a big two out hit. Now it’s Willie Castro. Little tapper. So JC flips to first and a fist pump for Michael McGrevy. He’s got a six inning shutout. Start number seven of the season was a great one for Michael McGrevy. Walked one through six. Did not give up a run. Struck out three. Awesome job by Michael McGrevy. Matthew Boyd night is over. The Cubs go to the bullpen. Well, the bullpen for the Cubbies has been a bit of a weak spot here as of late, Chip. You go back to June 19th. 523 the RA for the pen. Ryan Brazier in for his 25th game of the season. Two strikeouts for Brazier. Three nothing St. Lewis and the batter is Jordan Walker as that ball blasted by Walker deep left. Jordan Walker has extended the lead. That one’s been Brad a long time coming. Walker just hit his first home run since the 17th of May. You know that swing of the bat from Jordan Walker felt good. He’s been working hard and the Cardinals lead four nothing. Here’s Thomas and JC. That ball is a bullet into the left field corner by Saji. So back-to- back extra base hits here in the sixth inning. The Redbirds try to pour it on in game one. Pedro Pahes. This one hit the other way. SJC around third. Tucker’s throw is not cut off. Pas with a multi-hit game. So JC scores the second run of the inning. Five to nothing Cardinals. Cardinals have the leadoff man on. Jordan Walker at the plate. Mason takes off and Walker rips a shot to left. He’s got a three hit game and the Cardinals have first and third. Broken bat short hop. And coming home with it is her. And out of the baseline is Win and the Cubs are down to their last chance. Sharply hit to second. Donny’s got it. And the Cardinals have shut out the Cubs.

Go Cards!
Imagine being a Cubs fan and paying for all that gas money to come to STL just to watch your team get absolutely crushed by a mid-at-best Cardinals team. Fubs gonna fub! Go Cards!
That line on the left side scared the shit out of me.
Dang I bet he got some thread marks on that chest bump…
It’s so nice to see Jordan Walker is starting to swing a hot bat and looks so much more confident.
I like the small ball. I had the thought that the Cards need to do this a bit more when I saw the Padres doing it against us
Love to beat the Cubs!
モリーナ!
Chicago Trash
Nice I hate the Cubs 😂
What a player michael ❤
Micheal McGreevy almost had the Damar Hamlin thing happen to him
Why is Hampson in the major leagues? Hes never hit or got on base and isn’t a gold glove defender.
Can’t help but think yadi called for all those bunts and it worked out perfectly. He mentioned pregame how well the cards play small ball can’t just be a coincidence
Yadi 🤟❤😎
That really looked like a Wholesome game. Wish I was there. From Yadi to Walkers bomb, tho that young aspiring umpire. Good job everyone. We need more of this!
We've all been waiting on Walker to step it up for awhile now but here of late ya see the potential
…fuck yeah! Shut em out🎉 GO Cardinals !
Great win!
Lets go boys lets win this series
Did the cardinals charge Molina 5k for lineup exchange privilege like they do to their fans in auctions?
It’s feels good to shutout the Cubs 😀.
