Mets vs. Brewers Game Highlights (8/8/25) | MLB Highlights

It’s the best team in all of baseball back on their home field. The Milwaukee Brewers hosting the New York Mets over the weekend in Wisconsin. The crew 26 games over 500 for the first time since the 2021 season. The last time the Mets were in Milwaukee, Peter Gonzo was hitting that dramatic ninth inning home run in the deciding game of the Wildcard Series. But tonight, the Mets limp in Milwaukee. They’ve lost eight of their last nine games. and the president of baseball operations, David Sterns, addressed the team’s recent struggles. I believe in our guys and clearly everyone’s frustrated. Um, players are frustrated. Uh, at times I’ve been frustrated, but I I believe that this is a good offensive team. I believe in the process we have in place and I’m confident we’re going to see that going forward. Brandon Woodruff making his sixth start in return after missing so much time. One of the all-time great pitchers for the Brewers back in a group. Well, he’s been outstanding in his five starts. He’s only walked four batters. Francisco Lindor getting set to lead things off for the second game in a row for the Mets. And that’s a cold strike three. And that is a great way to start a game if you’re Brandon Woodruff. That’s too close to take. So, here’s Juan Sodto who had the lone hit for the Mets on Wednesday, breaking up Gavin Williams, no hitter with a home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. That one is sky high deep right field. Going back is Freelick at the track looking up. It’s gone. A solo home run for Juan Sodto in backto back at bats. And the Mets off to a quick one- nothing lead. With the bases empty, he is raking. 21. The 27 home runs that he has hit have come with the bases empty. Here’s Pete Alonzo. One away from Daryl Strawberry. Well, the last time Alonzo hit on this field hit the home run off of Devin Williams in the ninth inning and ended the Brewers season. Pops this one up. in the triangle out there. Terang is great on these popups and he makes a catch for out number two. Here’s Brandon NMO. One-two pitch swinging and a miss. He finally threw something off speed. It was a change up and he gets Brandon NML. Bodisenga gets the ball for the Mets. Sena leads New York in RA this season. But since returning from a hamstring injury, he has an RA over six in his last four starts. Oddly enough, the Mets have won all four of those games. Ground ball. Jeff McNeel. One down. William Contrarus. Second batter up. He swings first pitch. High pop. Alonzo giving it a look. Has room and makes the grab. Two down. And it’s high and wide. Ball four. Well, this the thing that has just killed Sanga is the walks. Christian Yelich coming up. There’s a ground ball. Nice play by McNeel who underhand tosses it to end the inning. Starling Marte leading off the second inning and he skies one to deep left field looking up. It’s Collins. No chance for that one. A home run. And Stling Marte gives the Mets a two nothing lead with his fifth home run of the season. And you know with the lineup pushing up with Sodto hitting second, Alonzo Vin Nimma, you have to play Martek in the fifth hole. And here’s the switch hitting center fielder Blake Perkins. Strike three got Perkins looking and there’s two away. Strike out number one for Kadai Sanga. Sanga so far just a walk. The only base runner he’s allowed. Here’s the lefty Bryce Tang. Half swing to the right side. There’s the speed of Tang to just just barely miss an infield single. The Brewers go down one3. Bottom of the third inning here in Milwaukee. Mets lead the Brewers two nothing. Caleb Durban leads off for the crew. There’s a bullet into left center. Caleb Durban turn and burn. He’s on his way to second with a double. Durban hit it very hard. 103 into the left center gap. And that’s a good start to the third for the crew. So a runner in scoring position now for Joey Ortiz. Ground ball right to Lindor. He goes to third and he gets Durban out. A heads up play by Francisco Lindor. Understanding that this Milwaukee team is ultra ultra aggressive on the base pass. Big mistake. Bad play. I mean it’s right at the short stop. You don’t advance. It has to be to the short stops left. So the Brewers got a leadoff double but couldn’t do anything with it. Two quick outs in the fifth inning for Brandon Woodruff. And now here’s Lindor swinging in a miss. He struck him out. It’s a one two three inning for Brandon Woodruff in the top of the fifth inning. Brewers looking to find some offense against Sanga in the Mets. They trail two nothing. Kai Sa has gone four scoreless innings. He’s only given up the one hit. That was the Caleb Durban leadoff double in the third. Blake Perkins leading off for the Brew Crew. All right. Chopper in front of the mound. Having trouble with it is Sanga. He puts it in his pocket. So Sanga unable to field the ball cleanly and a leadoff base runner for the Brewers. And that is an error. An E1 on Sanga. Terra now first ball swinging fly ball deep right center. See you later. We’re tied. The timely terrain delivers a two-run home run to tie this game on an ambush job against SA. First pitch cutter 105 mph exit velocity 424 ft. This kid’s got some pop. Take it low. Ball four and a base runner on again for the Brewers. Feels eerily like that last Shamanaya start where he was just rolling, rolling, rolling and then all of a sudden one inning the wheels fell off and right now Sanga with the error, the home run and now the walk to the number nine hitter. There’s a ground ball from Freelick backhanded by McNeel who gets the out at second base. Well, they’re looking to see if they can review it. You see Freick pointing back. So, this must be catcher interference and we’ll see if this comes and bites the Mets here. and he walked him and the bases are loaded. It has been a sloppy fifth. Two errors and two walks. So, the Brewers do chase the Mets starter after a very good start to the game now 51 consecutive games without two different starting pitchers recording at least one start of six plus innings. David Peterson has done it eight times in that stretch. Nobody else once. Bases loaded, one out, and Carlos Mendoza chooses to go with Brooksley to turn Collins around as a right-handed batter. Collins trying to give the Brewers the lead. The O2 pitch and it hit him. Hit by a pitch with a base loaded and the Brewers will grab the lead 3-2. When things are going bad, they’re going bad. And right now, this Brewers team seems like absolutely everything breaking right. Brandon Woodruff is through seven innings and it’s another one, two, three inning for Woody. He has retired 11 in a row. And that is what a horse looks like. Seven beautiful innings. Conurus will stop at second after a big turn. Yell has himself a single and the Brewers have first and second with two outs. And guess who coming to the plate? Andrew Vaughn. It’s been so rare when he hasn’t come through in a big spot for the Brewers. Alvarez is out there to chat with Sodto before this matchup here. Popped up shallow left field going out is Lingor. Waves his arms, makes the grab and ends the inning. Trevor McIll into the ball game for a saves opportunity. 3-2 Brewers. And who’s going to lead it off? But Pete Alonzo getting goosebumps. If there was ever a time for 252, this is it. Alonzo on the ground. Terra right there. and a big bat retired to start the ninth inning. So it all comes down to Stling Marte. Marte led off the second with a home run that put the Mets up two to nothing. The Brewers scored three runs in the fifth to take the lead and that’s where we stand. Line drive. That’s going to be a base hit into the right center field gap. Rounding first and trotting on into second is Stling Marte. And Marte keeps the Mets alive. They’ve got a shot with a runner in scoring position. Okay, it’s up to Jeff. McNeel one for three. And McNeel into center field. A base hit. Perkins throw to the plate on a hop. The tag. He is out. Ball game over. Blake Perkins loads up the rifle and finishes this game. Well, this is what the Brewers do. They played good fundamental baseball, great defense, and a fantastic defensive play. Ends the night. 71 wins now for Milwaukee. Meanwhile, the Mets have lost five in a row and nine of their last 10.

  1. No matter what this team ends up doing in October, I can't remember the last time I've had this much fun watching the Brewers. This team is so fun to root for

  2. You can tell spiritually, many women have huge fear and little courage or faith to go get booked and get a signiture bond. They escalate things by being uncooperative and being mouthy. Their brain and their mindset is weak. We need God in Our lives in a strong way.

  3. Who edited this?! Good grief, bases loaded, hbp brings in a run and only one out… and the very next frame it's the 7th inning blah blah blah. So just leave us hanging with two outs to go and the bases loaded. Maybe hire a real editor.

  4. Brandon Woodruff's return has been nothing short of perfect. Another great Start for Woody. 7 innings only 3 hits 8 K's and another game where his WHIP is under 1.00. He's at 0.63 for the season. Brandon Woodruff kept his cool after 2 straight innings with HR's. Once again the pitchers are phenomenal and the hitters find a way to win it! Brice Turang belts a game tying Home Run! Then Issac Collins gets the HBP with the Bases Loaded to give us the 3-2 lead! Then our relievers and our closer Trevor Megill shuts the door! Great win Milwaukee! Plus the Cubs lost to St.Louis 5-0. Brewers now lead the Division by 5.0 games!

  5. DEFENSE! DEFENSE! DEFENSE! This team has improved in every single aspect of the game, but their defensive skills are the one spot where this team has exploded to a incredibly high level! And it's not just one player, it's been every single player on the field. They all have contributed with a diving catch, a leaping grab at the wall to rob a Home Run off of someone, or a running sliding catch to rob extra bases. Or maybe it's William Contreras throwing out a potential base stealer. Or one of our gold glove infielders robbing a base hit, throwing a bullet to 1st base or turning a wicked double play! Lastly it could be like this play that once again not only saved a run from scoring, but it also saved the game for the Brewers. Blake Perkins throws a lazer beam to William Contreras who then tags out the runner trying to score the tying run in the top of the 9th inning!! The enthusiastic expression that Trevor Megill showed after that play says it all!!!!! WHAT A GAME!! AND WHAT A TEAM!!

  6. Fundamentally sound baseball. Very few and far between errors, brilliant defense, timely hitting, havoc and chaos for the opposing defense. Man. I am nervous for playoffs but I have to say, this is the most fun I have had watching Brewers baseball.

  7. I was at the game. Lots of Mets fans behind their dugout. They couldn’t hold a candle to Brewers fans. The place was electric! It absolutely exploded for the two run homer and especially for the throw by Perkins to end the ballgame. Welcome home Brewers!!

  8. I have to admit I haven't been this impressed with Milwaukee's performance this season. I don't think I have seen them do this well since the phenomenal '82 season
