ASTROS POSTCAST: Houston Astros Pull One Out In Extra Over The New York Yankees

This is the Astros Post Cast, your instant game reaction for the Houston Astros, part of the Locked On podcast network. Your team every day. [Music] Doesn’t always have to be the prettiest thing. Doesn’t have to be the least stressful thing. All that matters is that you get the victory at the end of the night. And that’s exactly what the Houston Astros did tonight as they get clutch there in the 10th inning. Carlos Koreah, Taylor Tra getting the offense what they need to get a victory over this Yankees team and kick off a three-game weekend series on a good note and a good note to hopefully finish this road trip as well. Hello and welcome tonight to the Locked on Astros postcast. I’m your host, Michael Connor. Thank you for stopping by and joining us if you’re watching live. We appreciate it. Started off really well. Hunter Brown went really well on the mound and then there was no offense. But what’s the number one thing you’re talking about at the end of this one? This is what you’ll be talking about. As I mentioned just a moment ago, the number one thing that you have to remember on nights like this, because it’s never going to be perfect, and there was a lot of perfect tonight. There really was. The pitching tonight did a great job overall. Great job. Hunter Brown obviously had a rough last inning there. Um, giving up some runs, you know, after he’d been he kind of got through it early on. I thought that first inning his stuff wasn’t really sharp. He didn’t look like he had a lot of command of it and then he really locked in. He got the command on everything and he was just mowing the Yankees down left and right and you know he found a way to settle in which was great. Like I said he did not get a lot of help outside of obviously the Yankee killer himself, Joseé Aluve. Doesn’t it just doesn’t it just warm your heart? You know, it’s like um it’s like in the winter, you know, it gets really cold, which I know relative here in Houston typically doesn’t get very cold, you know, like when it gets really cold and you come inside or something and you have like a nice warm cup of soup and like a sandwich with it, really warm sandwich. Like to me that that’s like one of the most comforting things. That’s Joseé Altuve hitting a home run against the Yankees in Yankee Stadium. It’s comfort. It is my comfort food of baseball is what it is. Make those people just keep booing and say boo this every single time. But he gave the spark early on for Hunter Brown. Brown like I mentioned, you know, rough first gets into the six where it gets into trouble. But then tip of the cap, Bennett Susa, you know, it’s been so weird to see how the Astros have kind of evolved throughout the year in terms of who’s going to be the seventh inning guy. Early on is Brian King. He really pitched well and now he’s one of those guys that I not that you don’t trust him, but he’s way down on the pecking order now. Like way down. Susa has pitched his way into being their I think most reliable guy to be in that seventh inning right now. He’s got a great slider. He does really well against lefties and righties which is why you, you know, you feel good about it and then you can hand it off to Abrau and hand it off to hater. I did think obviously Abrau got away with I thought a night where his stuff was kind of over the middle of the plate and he almost gave the home run on the the foul ball way down the line. But that happens. You know, it’s it’s never going to be perfect. But as long as you get through it again, who cares? And then you get to listen to those fans see that stadium empty out a little bit earlier. Yankees been in a funk. They have been, you know, one of the worst teams in the American League for the last like two months in terms of record. I think they’ve I mean like over their like last 50 games. I mean, they’re like 15 games plus under 500, I believe. Something like I have to go back and pull the exact number, but it’s it’s not good. It’s their problem. The Astros have not been good either. We know that. Uh, by the way, looking at the American League West as we’re doing this show live. Sorry for those of you that are watching it later. Rangers losing to the Phillies in the going to the eighth. Rays currently beating the Mariners one- nothing in the bottom of the fourth. That one. Long way to go in that one and it’s only a one- nothing game. Get some runs raised. Please help the Astros cause tonight. Pump that lead back up. Hopefully get it back up to two and a half games in the American League West. They need it obviously. What they needed tonight was a win. You know, had a good series overall in Miami. I know that we did not have a show the other day after the final game of the series. Um but taking two out of three was completely fine. Did you want to get greedy and sweep? Of course you did. You know, this weekend, this is a team, the Yankees, you’re going to see um again right at the beginning of September. So, it’s you got a little bit of time in between it, but it’s a Yankees team, like I mentioned, that is banged up from the standpoint of uh not even banged up, but they’ve just uh not playing good ball. And you know the Astros can hopefully take advantage of that and have a good weekend there in New York. And this is also a weekend where and I think this is why it’s important tonight and I know that Hunter Brown doesn’t get the victory. It’s always important to win the games that Hunter Brown and Fron Baldes start because those are the guys you always feel like you’re going to win when they pitch. And you know, so far in this road trip, there’s two games in Boston, both those guys pitched and Hunter was good. Hunter was really good and they lost. From wasn’t so good and they lost. But more often than not, those guys are going to be really good. And so even if the pitcher doesn’t get the win, the win on their nights is important because when we go back at the end of the season and look at the Astros record when those two guys start, it’s going to be way over 500 compared to everybody else. They’ll probably be around a 500 team with everybody else starting. So you got to find a way to get these wins when these guys pitch. And they did that tonight. And then I get a chance tomorrow from Bberwill to do it again. Which, by the way, we will have a show tomorrow. I know I’m going to be doing a little bit of a double duty tomorrow. If you are into the baseball and football world, by the way, uh this channel, we will be live for the Astros and Yankees uh postgame show. I will also, you know, you guys can’t see my setup here, but I’ve got one, two, three, and an iPad in front of me. I’ve got a lot of screens usually with a lot of things going on. Uh, I’ll have the Texans and Vikings preseason game up and as soon as the game ends for the Texans and Vikings tomorrow over on the Locked on Texans YouTube page. Uh, you need to go subscribe to that page. You get some baseball for me during that game. I’ll be doing the postgame show here and then we’ll do some uh Texans coverage when the first preseason game wraps up tomorrow as well. But the important thing here is that you beat the Yankees, the good old Yankees. I’ve been lucky enough I I’ve been to every um ALCS game that the Astros have played in New York. I’ve been to every ALCS game that they’ve played in this run uh period. I went to all of them. Um and this was this is a place where you go there and it’s just they’re a different breed. They are a different breed out there. They say a lot of nasty things. They do a lot of stuff. You know, they’re into the game. I’ll give them that. Not the way you should be into the game, but anytime you can make those fans, you know, have a little reminder of who’s daddy. You know, Pedro Martinez said it best. Who’s your daddy now? Yeah. It’s been the Astros for quite some time. And they got that again tonight. As my teenage nephews would say in this house, they found a way to give him the belt. Let’s talk a little bit about more uh a little bit more about uh getting clutch there in the ninth inning. And let’s take a look at tomorrow’s baseball game against these Yankees again right after this on the Locked on Texans or Locked on Astra. I got the Texans on the Mind now. Locked on Astros postcast. Astros take down the Stanies tonight by a final of 5 to3 in 10 innings and they get clutch in the 10th tonight thanks to a couple of guys who are This is the locked on player of the game. Carlos Cororea, I wish I could roll my Rs, I can’t. Um, he gets clutch, puts the Astros out in front, and then Taylor Chile adds on to it. Gives you the insurance. Obviously, the Yankees did get a run back there in the 10th inning to make it five to three. That’s okay. You had a three-run lead to protect. You always love, you know, extra innings are they’re they’re a squirly little thing now where they get a little bit weird. And I always feel like if you can’t do it in the 10th, like then it’s anything goes. Especially when you’re the road team. I think if you don’t get it in the 10th as a road team, like I just feel like you’re always going to lose. I have no idea if that’s how the stats would play out and I just I guess it’s a gut thing with me. Astros, by the way, with the win 65 and 51. But to to get the run in is always huge. You have to get that one run. If you can’t get the one run in from second with nobody out, look, you deserve to lose. But then to add on to it was huge. Uh Trel swing was absolutely massive. It’s a good moment for him. He’s been solid. He hasn’t been unbelievable by any means, but it’s probably the best version of a major league player that he has been to this point, which is a serviceable player. Uh not a not a huge number of at bats with the Astros still. So, the sample size is very small. It’s under 100 100 at bats, but he’s posting a 753 OPS, which is just fine for a you know, replacement type of player, role type of player that he is going to be when Jake Myers gets back into this Astros lineup. can hang around and play a little defense and do all that. That’d be good for the Astros. But good swing from him. And then Carlos Kareah of course like I mentioned and just wanted to shout it out too. I mean look, Kareah has been tremendous since they brought him back. We knew he was going to play a tremendous third base and his bat has gotten red-hot. Uh he was not having the most unbelievable season with Minnesota. Of course, you know, he is an older player and I say older player, he’s 30 now. He’ll be 31 here in about a month. The power hadn’t been there this year. You’d love to see the power come back around a little bit. I’m sure that it will, but I feel like you’re watching a guy that is rejuvenated. He’s playing on a team that had fallen apart there. Uh through seven games now since being back with the Astros. He is 11 for 29. That’s a 379 clip home run, four runs batted in, four walks, four strikeouts, 455 on base, 552 slug. So, it’s a 1007 OPS through seven games back with the Astros. Absolutely tremendous. And I love, of course, having the leadership back out there. You saw it again um tonight. Hunter Brown gets into a moment there who’s the first guy that’s hit the mound, Carlos Kareah. I The guy is he’s right back into his team leader role and he’s been here a week basically. I’m just so thrilled to have him and he loves the moment. We always know that for all the things, you know, people will love to get mad at him and, you know, criticize the play and whatnot all the years and, you know, did he ever really live up to the unbelievable first pick hype? You know, yeah, he did. He’s a multi-time all-star. He’s a platinum glove winner. He’s a World Series champion and he’s one of the clutchest guys in the history of the franchise. I just you can think of so many clutch moments and so many of them come up with him at the plate. He is never afraid of it. He seeks that moment. He is a big time player and big- time moments suit him. And tonight is another one of those examples in in an atmosphere that the other team the the opposing fans hate you. And he went out there and he did it again. He performed in the clutch and it was massive for the Astros and it started the uh the inning that again ended with the bang thanks to Taylor Trill. U Josh her comes back out. Got a little dicey but you know it is what it is. Do I love when you make a guy pitch two innings? No. No, I don’t. And especially, you know, for the Astros sake, I would imagine it’s going to be hard to get They’re bouncing back. They’re playing a 2:00 local time tomorrow, 1:00 our time game uh tomorrow. He’s probably not going to be available tomorrow. I do I do want to say one thing, watching that game tonight. Now, look, I I am not a fan of the Apple TV broadcast one bit. I always um change the audio on it. If you don’t if you haven’t noticed it, you know, you can go down there and change the audio. can listen to the radio broadcast for the home teams. So, I always I do that anyways. I just I love Steve Sparks and Robert Ford uh from years of of working uh you know with those guys and um I I just I hate the broadcast from a couple that by the way though I just saying that because they didn’t it took a few innings for that to work tonight which is great. The Yankees one worked from the jump. The Astros one wasn’t working. Maybe it was just me, but maybe you guys also had the same problem. But like, you know what I really hate about their broadcast? They don’t put the pitch count up for the pitcher. Like, they do it occasionally. That’s such a small thing to notice, but I’m a person that loves to know the pitch count. I I I’m a numbers guy. I like numbers. Um, I’m not great at numbers. I just enjoy numbers. Um, and you can’t see the pitch count like ever at all. Just drives me absolutely insane. So, I just wanted to say that thing. somebody hopefully get that to um get that over to the people at Apple TV and let them know. Put the pitch count on there, please. And next time have the Astros radio broadcast work faster so I don’t have to listen to, you know, I’ll say I had listened to a few innings tonight. They weren’t awful, but you know how it is when you watch a national broadcast. These people don’t watch your team. It’s just it’s rough. It’s really rough. Tomorrow again when this thing wraps up tomorrow’s game 10:05 first pitch hour time. So probably in that, you know, 4:00 range. We’ll be live for Locked on Astros postcast. Once again, I hope that you guys come back to this channel and say hello. You can always find this podcast anywhere you get your podcast. Go search Lockdown Astros. Have a great rest of your Friday night. We’ll talk again tomorrow after Astros and Yankees and another win. New

It took the Astros a long time to score again after a first inning home run from Jose Altuve, but they found a way to pull off the win in extras over the New York Yankees. Michael Connor breaks down the win on the Locked On Astros Postcast.

  1. Walker stranded Correa and altuve back to back at bats they shouldn't have sent tremell home that bat was not that deep in right field and walker couldn't read a ball off wall

  2. 1st pitch too. They not only blow but don’t read the scouting report. Everyone knows what Tuve is gonna do on the 1st pitch.
