Cubs vs. Cardinals MLB game highlights (August 8, 2025) | Marquee Sports Network
Welcome to Cubs baseball here on Marquee Sports Network. Coming up tonight from Busch Stadium, it’s the Cubs and the Cardinals from St. Louis. Matthew Boyd, starting pitcher tonight, Kyle Tucker and the fellas looking to get off to a good start here in the loop. Back in St. Louis a moment ago, Yadier Molina bringing out the lineup card. Gets a hug from Craig Councel. Molina will be in the dugout tonight next to Ali Maral and he got a really nice ovation. So for the next couple of games, Molina, who will be the manager of team Puerto Rico in the WBC upcoming a guest coach, they did have to actually check in with the league to make sure that the league approved of it. I didn’t know that was a thing. Yeah, in full uniform. I know he he told Oi he just wanted to be around for BP and stuff and Ollie invited him to be in the dugout for these next two games. Only Stan Musual and Luke Brock played more games in Cardinal uniform than Yatier Molina. All right, let’s take a look at the Cubs lineup. It’s brought to you by Benny’s Beverage Depot. If you can’t find it at Benny’s, it’s probably not worth drinking. The Cubs with Michael Bush up top leading off and Seiya Suzuki at DH. Tucker will hit third in half. Cleans it up. Pete Crow Armstrong in the five spot. Kelly Castro her and Swanson will hit ninth. And that group will go up against Michael McGrevy. And 25-year-old right-handed rookie pitcher. He was the 18th overall pick in the 2021 draft out of UC Santa Barbara. Doesn’t walk anybody. Walk rate just a tick or two below 4%. You see the major league average is twice that. Not overpowering either. He doesn’t strike out many. and lefties have had a good bit of success against them. 346 on base and a 452 slugging percentage. McGrevy ready and the first offering of the game is drilled out towards left center field and making the call and the catch is Burles. Line drive, one hop collected out there by Donovan on the right side and Suzuki retired. There’s two away rate of a little over 14%. That is hard hit and a base hit into right field. A line drive rocket off the bat of Kyle Tucker. So that’s a good sign. Power stroke from this side. And that one foul tip into the mid of Pahz and he struck him out. Back at Bush Matthew Boyd on the mound. Boo Shambi, Jim Deayes, and Taylor McGregor. Cubs baseball here on Marquee Sports Network. at our Verizon reliable performance. How about this guy? How about this guy? He had that one uh rough one in Milwaukee. He allowed for five runs and his four other starts since July 6th. Natada 27 innings, no runs. Check out the strikeouts and walks. 29 strikeouts against just two walks. Opposing hitters hitting just 161 against him. This is the spot where he is most comfortable. One, two, swing and a miss. struck him out and Donovan is gone up, down, inside and out. Yeah, a little emergency hack there by Donovan. I think he was anticipating breaking ball just trying to get a piece of this fast ball to stay alive, but nothing doing. Strike out victim number one for Boyd. Here comes a good heater. One, two, swing and a miss. Struck him out and that’s the change up. Two away. So Donovan gets the heater and Herrera gets the change up. And Boyd appears to be locked in here. Not easy, right? 40. He was in the 40s. Line drive right field and Tucker now to a knee and he makes the catch. I think the lights were bothering him there as Kyle able to haul it in. No score. Top of the second. Line drive. Base hit into left field. Berles over to collect that one. Kelly will take the turn and he’ll hang on at first. The former Cardinal with the knock for Grievy. Swinging a ground ball up the middle and it gets through. And Nicoer with a two out knock. First with runners at first and second. Swing and a ball drilled right field. Walker back and he’s there to make the catch. to me. Line drive and a base hit into left field off the bat of Berles. Ground ball. Fair ball down the third baseline. That’ll kick off the sidewall. Half will pick it up. Fired to second. Win is in. And the Cardinals have runners at second and third. It’s a double down the left field line. The one two swing in the ground ball to the hole. Diving play by Swanson. Spills out of his glove. Everybody safe. Run scores and it’s one- nothing. [Applause] [Music] Yeah, threw him a hitable pitch. Fast ball that was out of way and up a little bit. Doesn’t hit it all that hard. Good job by Dansby to knock it down to prevent that second run from scoring. Walker despite being a really big man can really run. Swanging a ground ball back to the mound. Boyd bobles to first and they just got him. He looked at the runner at third and then lost the grip. Wasn’t able to get the guy at second. And they’re going to look at Wow. Now I I understand taking a look at the run out third, but the play there is to turn the double play. That’s why you have your infield back in that situation. You’re playing for two just to try to clean up the inning. You know, sometimes what happens as a pitcher, the the runner on third just gets you diverts your attention just a little bit and then you go, “Wait a minute. Am I supposed to go to second with this ball? What am I supposed to do?” Ultimately, he figures he’s only got one play and he he just throws that little blob over to first. They’re taking a second look, a second opinion. Always a good idea at Northwestern Medicine. And I think the bases are going to be loaded. Oh, the ball’s stuck in his glove. That’s the problem. After a review, the call on the field is overturned. The runner is safe. [Applause] The O2 swing and a miss. Pah is gone. [Music] Great action on the change up. has way out on that front foot. The 1-1 ground ball glove to the plate for one. Back to first. Two. And they turn the one, two, three. And now Boyd having a quick chat with Ortiz. This double play brought to you by Elgen Hyundai. home in a 20-year and 200,000 mi warranty on every new car. Awaits the pitch and a line drive sliced down into left center and that’ll touch down for a hit. Lead off man is aboard. Quick pitch. PCA a little frustrated. [Music] They called a buck. They did. block. All right. Was Bill Miller over at first base that made the call? Not sure. No, no, he had it. Ortiz had it. Swaging a ground ball to the right side. Donovan gobbles it up. Throws out Pete and on the play half to third. Swinging a ground ball to third. Throw to the plate. Tag and he’s out. And it stays one- nothing as SJC handles the chance. The 3-1 and Horner takes inside. Nico is aboard. Yeah, he kind of had it intuitively felt like. Oh, that one finds space in the right field or hit a D. He was owed that. They owed it to him. They ranked 25th in starter erra. Swing and a miss and BCH is gone and a big spot for just his second strike out. Yeah. Comes on a good change up and didn’t really give him anything to hit in that sequence. He did. He got away with it. Popped up. Going out. Donovan makes the catch. Two and two. swing and a high five ball out towards right center field. Hampson is there to pull it down. The Cubs get the first two aboard and failed to score on the ground. Backhanded Swans in and it pulls Bush off the base and it’ll be an infield single running towards first. show. I think probably a bad choice right there. Although I don’t know that an out was available at first either. This one bunt it out in front of the plate. Out at first. Wow. Close play and boy able to throw out Donovan. Yeah, man. And again on a hot steamy night, pitchers working hard. Not an easy play at all. He’s a such a good athlete. You see him make a number of really good plays this year. That’s a beautiful buck and it’s kind of out there in a Bermuda Triangle strike for a chase center field. Pete Crow Armstrong. Pah tagging. PCA grabs it. Here comes a throw to the plate and it’s too late. Pah is in and it’s two nothing. [Applause] And now a 2-2. Line drive. Base hit left field. Hack will charge and the throw is cut. Run is in. Hampton scores. And now they’ve got Contrarus and they tag him out. Wilson Contreras an RBI single and the Cardinals pick up a couple. It’s three nothing. Two outs. Bases clear. Swing and a highf fly ball drilled left field. That’s back and it’s gone. Walker unloads over the bullpen. Just his fourth of the year and the big fella will touch them all. It’s four nothing. We talked about his strength and his power earlier. Hits it on the ground too much, strikes out too much, but when he gets it, he can hit it a long way. And watch the reaction from Ryan Brazer. He knows where this one’s headed. [Applause] Swinging a liner. Fair ball. That’ll get into the corner. half over to dig that one out. Said JC into second and a two out double ground ball. That’s a base hit into right field to JC around third. Tucker’s throw too late and it is 5 nothing. Play in a hurry. Two quick outs, two strikeouts to get this inning started. Then home run double single. P has this inside out swing on a fast ball moving in on him a little bit. Just kind of nudges it to right. Jacy’s a plus runner. One hop, Donovan. And that’ll do it. Cardinals take the opener as they shut out the Cubs. 5 nothing the final [Music]

It’s a sad day when the tribune were better owners
The miserable Chicago winter sports season is starting early I see
They can't get the hits lined up with base runners.
Cubs, what can you expect, they give us hope before the break now they are vexing our minds and hearts, it sucks. I am sure the bears are going to break our hearts for sure even though Johnson is the coach now. Williams got sacked the most in 24, 68 times, 16 sacks more than the the next quarterback C.J. Strout who had 52. Tyson Bagent is the better quarterback i think.
Time for a rebuild, this one didn’t work out. ricketts is nowhere ready for big time Baseball
While the offense is in dire need of a spark for sure(probably demoralized by the of ownership/GM giving up on them at the deadline)…Is there a worse 3B coach than the Cubs?! He's cost this team so many runs this season being over aggressive(dumb) with slow runners (Kelly, Happ multiple times each). 4th inning: you work all inning to get Happ to 3rd, and then he send him home on a sharp grounder to 3rd, out by 15 feet. WTF?!
They suck the cubs can beat the reds or the cardinals there not going anywhere the cubs
Wait cup cubs
The cubs can’t hit and can’t pitch the suck
This is the cubs I know
Typical cubs , lose every game at the end of the season
I'd say unbelievable, but it is actually VERY believable.. Counsel is an overpayed moron,, and Hoyer failed the team and fans regarding more talent. Typical.
Boooooooooooooooooo
They outperformed themselves in the early going. They’re done, but at least we’ll still fill the stands every game and sing “Go Cubs Go” to pat ourselves on the back for going to work that day and doing our job
Ricketts have to go there just in for the money now they don't care about world series they signed red to use him as a scape goat but the Ricketts know win lose wriggleyfield will be filled cuz its yuppie land they have money to blow on games wriggleyfield is there club house where they go to drink real fans won't go to any games to prove a point but not in wriggleyfield so sorry I'm out die hard cub fan but I can't do tis anymore I'm done watching cubs till Ricketts sell the cubs to someone who wants to win not just make money wake up fans
This is end of the Cubs season
Well it was a good run. June swoon came 2 months late this year.
We’re good boys. Don’t worry. All offenses have a little bit of a slump. Dodgers and Yanks had the same exact problem!
St Louis never wear those uniforms are hats again please
Still have a long way
GO CUBS GO
Cubs are now playing like they really are.
The brewers are playing like they are suppose to be.
Cubs won’t even make the playoffs.😢.
Why don’t the cubs ever bunt? Runners on 1st & 2nd with no outs, lay down a bunt. The cardinals did and look what happened.
