Cubs vs. Cardinals Game Highlights (8/9/25) | MLB Highlights

The Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs, one of the great rivalries in baseball and the Cardinals won game one here yesterday trying to keep it going for the Cardinals of late. They’ve had some pretty good recent success taking down some pretty good teams won the first game. He’s going to rely on four different pitches. Busch who has hit 11 fastballs for Knox so far this year against the ST Louis Cardinals to right field should be extra bases for Bush here in ST Louis. The headlines right themselves. They sure do. He got another one in the middle of the zone, a breaking ball that hangs right side and playable at second. So JC, he does get him over at first. Suzuki is out. Yeah, that’s a great piece of hitting, by the way, he almost got rewarded. He gets the runner over to third in it. Normally you wouldn’t play the infield in, in the first inning , but the team is struggling and you got a great hitter at the plate that is smoke to right. Tucker will take the RB I and very quickly it is one tubs so far plan is not hit, command of his breaking ball yet and Tuck hit a bull at the right now. Carson Kelly, who has been massively productive this year for the Cubs. There goes the runner Tucker throw down to second is not in time stolen base for kyle Tucker. And pretty clearly, the Cubs are going to use the run game tonight right side. That’s the knock, it’s on the ground. Carson Kelly and the Cubs will sit at 1st and 3rd. Kelly now is gonna peel away. He’s on his way to second. Here comes the run with Tucker. What awareness from both runners and the Cubs steal a run, a cut off, almost executed perfectly. And Then when it scoots through , he doesn’t react. Colin Ray who also pitches to contact five year old on the hill and both pitchers, as you mentioned, attack the strike zone, swing and a miss strike three, a cutter that just kept on fighting three different fastballs. He’s got the fastball four seamer. He’s got the two seamer and Then he’s got this cutter strike three. He fished out a punch out with a sinker that just kept coming the other way. Here’s the chopper foul fair up along first feel by waiting for the runner and tags him right in front of the base one unassisted. Swanson had a hit in four at bats last night hitting 245 rolled to third. That’s Gorman stabbing not in time. Beats it down the line, an infield single excellent job by Dansby hooks this ball in the hole. Garman makes a nice play going to get this ball. There goes Swanson throw down to second is not in time taking it to right. Dansby Swanson takes off for third. He’ll get a stop sign from Quentin Barry there, but the Cubs are just ramming through the baseline. Sure enough, he was kind of twitching as he took his lead at first and he got a very good jump. That’s high. It’s ball four. Shaw takes a walk. He has 14 stolen bases and they have runners at 1st and 3rd bus. He started the game off with a line drive double into the right field corner. That ball is hammered by Bush down the right field side torments the Cardinals. A three run shot. It is five to nothing Cubs. It’s middle, middle and busy. It’s a line drive rocket into the bleachers in right field and that is the start you’re looking for for the Cubs offense today that Paul’s sliced to left field and should be extra bases. Suzuki on one hop off the wall. He is in the, and the Cubs are cooking six hits. They had seven hits and no runs in yesterday’s ballgame today. Six hits in two innings but five runs across the board into right field. That’s a base hit. Carson Kelly Suzuki is home. It is six nothing Cubs. That’s the best sign of all Cubs are scoring some runs tonight here in ST Louis, Oliver Marmel just left his seat near the railing of the dugout. Has come up the steps yet here he comes big fan of Andre Polan but it’s, time is in game number 17 is, er, a about 5.5 and he smokes this to center and hangs up in the air for who comes skating in with a fine play to get the crowd to say two down here in the third, the batter Dansby Swanson down for a base hit. It is a two out single again. Everyone hitting the ball hard in this inning, Cubs lead six to nothing. And the batter matt, the run inside roll all the way to the left corner is going to try to score and he will standing up around second. He’s going for three third not in time to all the way into the left field corner. By the time Burleson could run it down. It was a run scoring triple for matt Shaw and here comes the 2 to 2 pitch. That’s it hard and backhanded by Mason on one hop gets up and throws him out. Wow, what a play that was by the Cardinals shortstop. He just saved another run. Got some innings to eat up here tonight. John for the Cardinals bullpen been a struggle for them all year and that has led to some days like this where balls in play just lead to long innings up. The middle and through it’s a base hit on the ground for Carson. Kelly Tucker will take third. This is the fifth two strike hit already tonight for the Cubs and Kelly has two of them. Here’s Ian happ stepping in. H has lined out to center and grounded out to second line drive right field. It is eight Cubs and a half drives in Tucker RB I number 55 for Ian half and there’s a ground ball to Mason when he’s got a long throw and he gets his man and that will end the inning. But another run for the Chicago Cubs Cardinal left fielder Burleson who is now zero for seven against Colin two and two on Burleson swing and a Miss strike three. Very good stuff today. Good, lively fastball in the mid nineties. Here’s a swing and a Miss strike three and that’s going to end the inning. This is the kind of offense we got used to seeing co in the first half from the Cubs. So it’s, it’s been a, it’s been a good night for the Cubs offense. 11 hits already to the first half of the ball game. Uh oh, high fly ball deep left field and the onslaught continues. It’s now nine nothing Cubs over the Cardinals here in the fifth. That’s his home run of the year. He stays right on this ball gets out to it and hooks it down the line. Lars has struck out and lined out to third pitch number 85 for him tonight. It swung on and hit hard to right field. Tucker moves back and the ball is over his head and off the wall. It’s a stand up double for New, leading off the six new leads at second. The pitch, a swing and a high fly to right field. New goes to tag the catch is made by Tucker is on his way to third and he’s going to make it the first cardinal runner to make third base tonight with one out and a runner at third Bertelson taps it up the first base line. It’s going to score a run. Bush steps on first crosses the plate. He’s got a lot to be building on , I would say by this outing so far as he faces Niko Horner who’s zero for three in the air to left field down the line, moving over his Hampson and he makes the play a sliding catch. He took that one off the ground as New did earlier. Nice play by Hampson just into the game and he was tested right away and Horner is now zero for four and he pops up this one on the right side. Long run for everybody. So JC has the best chance but it is Jordan walker coming out of nowhere to call him off and make the play. I guess he had a better chance after striking out New Bar Herrera doubled. Elson takes a free pass is coming to bat for the first time tonight. Swing and a miss strike three late on the two seamer from Rogers to gone the runners lead at 1st and 2nd. The pitch. Mason hits it hard to the first baseman Bush. He takes it to the bank three and assisted. We go to the 9th 9 to 10 for three. He has three hits in his last 22 at bats two out for third base side and it’s off of shaw, it’s into left field and Pozo is safe at first. That’s a hit. Poso stops at second top of the order now and Lars New Bar, he has a double and a run scored the two swing and a miss and the Cubs win the ball game and the Cubs remain five games behind Milwaukee with their victory here in ST Louis tonight.

  1. To all the people who wanted to send Shaw down again……blow me…..and blow Shaw…..and to Craig……quit putting Castro over there…..Shaw is the future.

  2. Cards are a joke. Yes I wish they would leave Missouri. They don't even try. Ownership is a joke I will pray tonight they ALL lose everything they own.
