Rays vs. Mariners Game Highlights (8/9/25) | MLB Highlights

We are all about 51 and Ichiro Suzuki today. Yes, that number 51 will be retired here, Ichiro weekend. You see his number name there on the field. The number will be hanging out here in the pen with 4224 and 11. Somebody says Ichiro, what pops in your head. Well, superstar I, that’s what pops in my head. You only have to travel to Japan or anywhere around Seattle, anywhere around the United States. Now, just to know that there’s only one Icho Suzuki, but it’s really rare right to get your number retired. You have to be with that team for a long period of time. You have to have a connection with the fans and the community here and everything else. So this is a very special day that 51 retired. Tonight, we honor one of the most dynamic players in baseball history. A Mariner through and through and the 10th member of the Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame. Ichiro Suzuki. Please welcome the one and only one Ichiro. You’re a national Baseball Hall of Famer and tonight your number will be retired in center field in this great ballpark each of you are an outstanding leader, teammate and friend. Thank you all for all that you have done. For me. This team, this organization, this city, we couldn’t be happier for you. You inspire all of us. We’re so proud of you and we’re proud that you are a Seattle Mariner. Congratulations on edgar Martinez drive. We honor two of the finest baseball hitters of all time, the greatest designated hitter ever edgar Martinez and the greatest left handed power hitter of all time, Ken Griffey junior, but someone is missing next year to celebrate his transcendent international role in baseball and his leadership of the Seattle Mariners. We will build a statue in honor of Eg Ross. Now, as you know, there is just one more reveal left 43, two. Yeah. National Baseball Hall of Famer. Number 51 Ichiro Suzuki. What’s up Seattle? I am so grateful to be here today to receive this highest of honors. But whose idea was it to help me give two speeches in English in two weeks, I would like to begin by quoting my favorite philosopher George Kenneth Griffey junior. I’m damn proud to be a Seattle Mariner just like him. I realized by going away, there really is no place like home. So yes, I also am damn proud to be a Seattle. I could never experience this great honors without the support of your thank you, Seattle randy Johnson. He was number 51 long before I ever arrived in Seattle. 51 was part of my identity, but I knew that number already had a rich history here. I felt if I continue to prepare and do all the things I believed in, I could uphold the honor that Randy created for number 51 in Seattle. I’m grateful to randy for attending my ceremony today. It will be my great honor to attend his next season. Thank you to my long time interpreter, Alan Turner and his family and to my wife Yumiko. I can’t wait to eat another hot dog with her at today’s game. Now, this year’s team has a great opportunity, although I can no longer help you guys with a hit or a laser beam throw. My will and desire is always there for you. Now, let’s play. Welcome to Mariners baseball, everybody. We’ve already had a great night and now Mariners win would really put the cherry on the ice cream soda Logan Evans, the kid 24 years of age on the mound, five and four with a 4.30. Er, a making his 14th. Here’s Brandon Lau who homered in the first inning yesterday in a 10 pitch at bat. Brandon. Now with one homers, he swings and drives one the other way to left field, rose back toward the corner at the wall and this ball is gone. Brandon Lowe has done it again for the second straight day. He homers in his first at bat. This time he goes up for number 22 and the Rays have a one nothing lead here in the very first inning, top of the first, able to change the score on one swing. They’ll be going up against Joe Boyle here making his fourth start of the season, eighth overall game for the Rays. A 1 to 1 record, er, a of 230 outstanding whip at 0.8 eight. Here’s julio Rodriguez said it up, Julio 21 home runs on the season, 10 home runs in his last 24 games out to center field. Watch out J run squad. Here it to his fans in the J Rod squad. A two run home run and the Mariners lead it 2 to 1 here in the bottom of the first inning, the walk, the long ball and the Mariners have the lead and julio , that was some kind of special swing right there to give the Mariners a lead 436 ft for julio , a serious homer. So the Bears have something going, a base hit by Randy runners at 1st and 2nd with nobody down. Here we go. This are up again, swung on that’s crossed left field. It’s gonna go. It’s history continues for Cal he’s all alone, third all time in baseball history for catchers Cal Rawley. It’s 51 Mariners and this place is up for grabs, getting closer to Sal’s record of 4821 home runs here. At home. Here’s Julio. The pitch swung on, that’s rope left field line towards the pole and that gets out. It’s gone. It’s the back to back Jacks Cal Rowley Julio his second. And the celebration is on here at T Mobile Park. This place has erupted, celebrate Ichiro and that laser beam throw. Julio Rodriguez just laid out a laser beam line drive and tucked it into the left field corner. Holy smokes. What a shot. Cainero homered three times the last two days, but a strikeout and a pop out tonight can’t do it every night swinging a high fly ball deep to center Rodriguez back at the wall. Look it up. It’s long gone junior with a three run homer, make it four in three days and three days in a row. Makes it a ball game again at 6 to 4. Quite a fight here between Mason Engler JP Crawford. It’s an innings innings. I’ll tell you what if you’re Mason Engel, you better win this battle, you better win this battle for those. Wondering, I don’t know exactly what the big league record is but I know it’s in the twenties. So we’re getting there but not there yet. I can’t make this up. He’s seen everything and England’s thrown everything. There was a 17 pitch at bat earlier this week between Jacob Lopez who used to be with the Rays now with the A’s and Nathaniel Lowe who is now with the nationals. A former Ray. Now we’re seeing something just as long Crawford has sending a lot of souvenirs into the seats. 1st and 3rd base side. Number 17 of the sequence is caught by Hassan kim. They might have dumped it in there. That might be the most rewarding out of England’s season so far. Here’s the one too swung on little looper center field foul fast. Here comes Peters racing in, goes to, he can’t make the catch. It’s by him young around second base. It’s scooped up by Simpson Young into third. That’s going to be a single for Randy Arozarena just stuck it in , in front of Peters and the Mariners back in business runners on the corners with one away in the dirt that gets away racing home from third base Cole , he’s gonna stop on home. He scores and the Mariners get another. It’s 7 to 4. Mariners. Randy goes to second base on the wild pitch. A check swing off the end of the bat right back to the pitcher. It’s picked up by Engler fires to first to get the out and there goes cal that’s out. Number two. Here’s Julio looking for his first three homer game of his career. He’s homered twice tonight. Swung on, popped up a mile high on the infield racing. CBA calling for it screaming. He wants it. He takes it a one hand catch. The Mariners are done here in the sixth, the stretch by Spire and the 10, pitch one on hard hit one hopper behind the bag at first diving stop Naylor underhand, flip the Spire at the bag and it’s in time to Rob Lowe and a great defensive play right there to take a double away from laue diving to his left, rolling over the underhand flip right on the bag to lead Spire right to the bag at first base for the out. What a play by Speier and Josh Naylor to make the stop. Well, here we go to the top half of the ninth inning. The Mariners lead the Rays by a score of 7 to 4. Doesn’t feel like much of a safe situation, but it is you got a three run lead because of the Mariners offense, so much offense in the early part of the ball game and Andres will take over and relief swung on grounded toward the hole and through and a base hit Junior another multi hit game, a three run homer tonight. That’s just the fifth hit for the Rays. In fact, Junior had the last hit and the latest hit he got him. He just twisted him down into the earth with an emphatic strikeout looking to fly ball into the gap in left center field plenty of time for randy or Julio. It is going to be Julio for the second out of the inning. So two down after the leadoff single by cro makes his way back to first base and that will bring up has on Kim everybody on their feet. Here at T Mobile Park, we started with a stated ovation for the ceremony for Ichiro Suzuki retired his number 51 prior to the ball game and now the fans are back on their feet here in the top of the ninth inning looking for a Mariner win. Here it comes off the plate. You can see the frustration on Munoz forcing fastball just off the plate. Cal Raley doing everything he could to bring it back over the tying run comes to the plate. This is Tristan Peters. He made his major league debut last night on the hunt for his first major league hit two outs. Top of the ninth inning. That’s the ball game on a night where we honored one of the game’s greats in Ichiro. The Mariners win it 7 to 4 and secure a series win.

  1. Is it true that J.P. Crawford of the Seattle Mariners could play for Mexico in next year's World Baseball Classic because his wife is Mexican? He is an American citizen, though…

  2. Is Jonathan Aranda doing okay with his injury? As of August 1st, it was reported that he would be out for 4-8 weeks, but is his return likely to be late August to mid-September?

  3. Is there still no set return date for Tampa Bay Rays' Manuel Rodriguez? He's scheduled to compete in the WBC, but will he be ready in time?

  4. This was the best night of baseball I've ever experienced. The ceremony was great and the game kept all that moment going. We were all still standing and cheering after Cal's home run when Julio knocked another one just like that. It was just amazing!

  5. This has to be one of the better Mariner recaps. Includes Ichiro, the gameplay and JP's impressive 17 pitch at bat.

    Well done MLB!

  6. It's rare to see obvious emotion from Ichiro, but he seemed to be holding back strong emotions and looked genuinely surprised to receive a statue. Well deserved, and such a consummate professional.

Regarding the game, it's nice to see Cal is back into pre-slump form, and Naylor showed that he is worth everything we gave up to get him with his patience at the plate, baserunning, and INCREDIBLE defensive grab.

Things are really looking up for this team and it's about time!

  7. I don’t think people can truly understand who ichiro really is too mariner fans, that was the loudest I’ve ever heard that stadium, and the ichiro chants were absolutely incredible.

  8. It just feels like one of those special years right now. All around baseball, there is nothing like this right now. Not with the emotion. Not with the family vibes.

  9. The editor did a great job incorporating the perfect amount of the Ichiro ceremony and a really great game in itself. Well done! Give them a raise! Go M’s!

  10. Congrats on the lifetime achievement Ichiro!!! Seeing all the greats back on the field brought back my childhood memories and why I love this team!!

  11. So when does the season of baseball end again. It can’t come sooner. Each day of being a Rays fan is another day of suffering. Gg Mariners

  12. Thank you Ichiro! Great ceremony and game! Shout out to the editor here for a great job incorporating the ceremony and a great game. Thank you
