Red Sox vs. Padres Game Highlights (8/9/25) | MLB Highlights

Earlier today, both teams wearing jerseys from Texas high school baseball programs impacted by the recent San Antonio flooding. They’ll be auctioned off for relief efforts. An idea started by the Padres’s double A affiliate, the San Antonio Mission. So, Red Sox manager Alex Kora once played for the mission. So, really makes this a special connection for both sides. An exciting day as Michael King is making his return today. What does his return to the rotation mean to this club? Well, I don’t think it can be overstated. I mean, you’re getting the impact arm. You’re getting all the qualities that go with him character-wise. What a welcome sight. This is the return of Michael King. It’s been way too long. It’s so good to have Michael King out there. Number 34 twirling tonight. Should add an extra punch into the rotation for San Diego. He’s making his 11th start on the ground to first base. A rise will need King. King’s there. Out number one. Alex Bregman next. Bregman at 295 with 14 home runs. Bregman rips one down the left field line. That’s going to be extra bases inside the line. Bregman grounds first. He will trot into second. Throw is not nearly in time. But first slide for Bregman. And it’s a one out double in the top of the first. So one down. Bregman at second base. Here comes Durant at 264 with a dozen home runs. Swing a little floater into center field. That’s going to drop down from base hit. Here comes Bregman rounding. Merryill thrown home. It’s cut. Run. scores and out at second base. He’s up and running, but the umpire out there, Jeremy Rehack, called him out as the run came in. Now number two. What a great job on the pick as well on the back end. Lucas Gelo eight and two went eight innings his last time out against Houston. Allowed only three hits and one run. And Fernando lines one sharply into center field. A base a hit to start the bottom of the first inning. Runner goes ground ball. Story couldn’t get the out at second. He’ll go to first base. They had sent Tatis. One man out and a runner at second. Taking off for third is Fernando. He’ll get there. Uncontested. Stolen base. Oh, watch him run. Making things happen into right field charging in Abrau. He’ll make the catch. Tatis will go about halfway on the throw to the plate. He made a wise choice with Will Abrau out there. He put it right on the money. And two down. So two away. Here’s Merryill at 260 with eight home runs. Infield, backs up. Popped up into the outfield. Shallow center. Story backpedaling. He will call off Duran Trevor. Makes the play. Inning over. Nicely done. Gilito barking at Tatis. I love it. In a jam right here. Base is loaded, one out. If Michael were to be cruising, you know, 11, 12, maybe 16 pitches an inning. I think he would probably throw more pitches. But because the workload in one set inning, I think it’s going to be fewer. Now on the ground towards third base. Manny Machado’s coming home out there. Throw it to first. He is safe. They do get the lead runner at the plate for the second out. That’s huge. Almost turn the DP. Tell you what, another nice play by Manny. Bases loaded here for Boston. Two down. Would love to see him complete this inning right here and leave him loaded. Janthony swings and misses. Strike three. Best change up of the night for King. and a strike out to leave him loaded here in the top of the second inning. Sander Bogards leads off against his old team. Bottom of the second inning, one- nothing Red Sox. No two pitch to Bogarts. Lifts a fly ball to left field. Does it have enough? Anthony going back at the wall. Bogey goes boom. Bogards for the home run. Ties the game one to one. Well, that’s his first hit in his career against the Red Sox. Well, he got just enough of the change up. Watch the swing. Boy, he went down and got it. I I’ll be honest with you. As soon as this ball was hit, I thought it was, you know, it was going to be maybe to the track base of the wall, but it goes one, two. Bregman swings and he lines one down the left field line. It lands fair and it rolls into the corner right on Q. Bregman motors to second. Lauraniano’s throw is not in time. Bregman safe with a headlong dive into second and he’s doubled twice in three innings and he’s at second to begin the third. Well, that was going to be the night for King as he heads off. London Peralta coming into the ball game for the Padres’s on for the 53rd time this season. And the Red Sox charging again on the corners and nobody out here in the third. Picked by Peralta and they got Bregman hung up. Running him back is Machado towards the plate. And now Fine will run a little bit and run him back out of the baseline for the out. Trying to get in that run down so the runners could advance and they both did to second and third in the meantime. He’s got second and third here and one out. It’s a B. And now a B. And here comes the run. And Jiren Durant is in to score. And Trevor Story down to third and the Red Sox lead at two to one. Machado tried a hidden ball but Wy’s on the rubber. He’s on the rubber right now. Oh, you see Machado, look, I’m going to try to get you. He has the baseball, but Wii standing on the rubber. 10. Yoshida swings and he trickles one toward the mound. Peralta stabs throws to the plate. Not in time to get Story with a headlong dive and it’s 3-1 Red Sox on a little dribbler. Back to the mound from Yoshida. One out, nobody on for Luis Arise. 3-1 Red Sox in the third inning. That’s a fair ball inside third. Anthony goes to get it. Heading for second. Is arise going to hurry and he gets in safely. Two on and two out for Xander Bogarts whose presence in the dish probably the reason that Andrew Bailey is out there to Chad Xander homered leading off last inning. Bogarts to center field. Duran coming in. Not going to get there. Drops in front of him. Here comes a rise. Little bobble in center and it’s a one-run game. Xander Bogarts has driven in the two Padres’s runs. It’s amazing to see Xander the way he’s been swinging the bat contributing, huh, Joe? Man, he’s been and shorts stops what’s been so impressive to me, man. He’s played an incredible short stop. Padres’s down 3-2. Bottom of the fourth inning. Raone Lauriano leading off. Blind drive and what a play by Sedon. He’ll throw him out at first. A Superman dive to steal an absolute 100% sure base hit. Well, the reaction no matter where you have him. Just such a great athlete. This ball is smoked. Peter away. Lauraniano hits this ball hard. Two in scoring position. And he missed with that ball for that. Give me a look at that last pitch. There’s a strike right. The Padres’s now have the bases loaded. Two outs. And Ryan O’Harn coming up. That’s Paul Thor. He walks in the game. Tying run. We’re tied at three. That’s Paul F. He walks in another run. Padres’s take the lead. Four straight walks for Glo. And that’ll be the night. Jeremiah Estrada pitched the fifth out there to start the sixth inning. Now pitching with a lead for the first time. Elevates and he chases. Struck him out on the fast ball at 98. Gets him to chase on the split. Four strikeouts in a row for Jeremiah Estrada. Swinging a miss. So you know what that means. Here we go. Will your Abrau say it Donnie Saddon Raphaela Conor Wong all down by way of the K and for Mason Miller overall this season 42nd game inherits one runner right here. Look at the strikeout 65 with 41 in the third innings of work. Swinging a miss 102 to strike him out and Mason Miller gets Trevor Story and leaves Bregman at first base. Top of the eighth inning, Padres’s with a 4-3 lead over the Red Sox. Miller came on with a runner on first, two outs last inning and struck out Trevor Story. Swinging a shot into right field. That’s a base hit. It might be two. Masa rounds first. He will wisely hold as Tatis races over. David Hamilton cannot get out of the dugout fast enough. Runner goes. Pitch is a ball. Throw down there. Safe. Stolen base. Challenge. Wow. I love it. They think they got Love it. Oh, I don’t know. Does he come off the bag? Yeah, that’s the Oh, he did. The glove came up. The oven mitt. Yeah, the oven mitt came off the bag and and Xander held the tag. Keep it. Keep it on him. Keep it on him. Watch the oven mitt right there. He’s off the bag. The runner is out. Bases are empty and a swing and a miss. That strike three make it two outs. Stuck him out. Mason Miller nails tonight. Struck out Toro. Now he strikes out a Brayu. It’s crunch time. There are saves and then big time saves. There’s a big time save. One down trying to tie this game with your two best hitters. And here comes Roman and a shot out to left center field. Merryill on a run. He’s not going to get it. That’ll skip up into the stands and that’ll drive in the tying run. And the Red Sox have made it a 44 game and the rookie comes through in the clutch again. The man’s got ice in his veins. Nothing affects him. New pitcher for the Padres’s is Jason Adams. Very integral part of that Padre bullpen. He’s an all-star. 56th game. We got a brand new ball game here. Squaring again and he strikes out. Couldn’t get the job done. Out number one of the 10th. Now he hits a ground ball to shortstop. Bogret is going to second force out. Ends the inning. Red Sox don’t score in the top of the 10th. Padres will be looking to walk it off in the bottom of the 10th. And they try and set up a force on the infield. Lauraniano is lined out to left, grounded onto second, walked and struck out. Lauraniano chops one into left field. Bogar’s being waved around. He’s coming around. Oh, the Padres’s walk it off. Ramon Lauraniano drives in the game winner as the Padres’s beat the Red Sox 5 to four and 10. Bregman was in expecting a potential bunt and he put it right over his

  1. Good win but padres should start switching off Suarez and miller for closing. Keep the other team on edge cuz they won’t know who’s coming out in the 9th and they might not be ready for Suarez in the 8th miller in 9th or vice versa.

  2. What a transformation. Xander Boegarts is hitting better than Tatis Jr and Jackson Merrill. As long as we keep on winning it's al good. Crazy season. AJ Preller needs a raise.
