Top MLB Plays of 8/9/25 (Did a new CATCH OF THE YEAR contender emerge?)
And Clemens lines it to right field and right at Yustreky who lost his footing but made the catch. Another good change up throw to third is in time. Rutman backs Ruter. What a throw. What a play. Line drive. Another play byas going to his left. Goldmid hit it on the button, but Aras made two fine plays in the inning. There’s a sharply hit ball, but a nice play out at second by Ernie Clement to record the out on Max. Ernie Clement was shaded towards that hole on the right side. Really nice defensive placement over there, but it still was a tough play. Little short hop into the tough sunfield and Fam finds it. That’s a tough play and he made it. That sinking liner. Trouble with the sun about shoe top high and held on as he went down to the ground. Ground into first. Knocked out of the backhand. Steer si out of cover and he gets there. Nice play. Spencer steer at first. Inning over and we go to the ninth. Still no score. Bobette launches one in the air to left center field. Conorto makes the catch on the track. Confort going back read the ball well and then that that leap just perfect timing. Chopper diving play by Toro. He’ll get to the bag. He stole a hit. That’s a big play. That’s extra bases written all over it down that line. Toro nice reaction. Line drive caught by Ramona as he got up and at the top of his jump speared that line drive. to take one away from Gisham who’s been hitting in some tough luck in this series. And he smokes this to center. It hangs up in the air for Newbar who comes skating in with a fine play to get the crowd to say N. Pull the Rangers to within one. What a play by Sosa. Mundo is the energy for this team. He makes a brilliant play. It goes down to a knee. Not sure he had to, but he does. as he makes the decision as the throw is halfway to first base. He is backing up and pointing and cheering. I mean, he is so into this game. Chandler Simpson the batter. He fights this one off. Gino’s got it. Has to hurry. Pumps a fast ball to first base and a force. Sears Naylor’s glove for the out. I mean, look at this right away. Turn throw. Bang. Ground ball to third. Sliding backhanded grab by Andy Abanz. Bounces up. Throws to first in time. Very fine play by Andy Abanz behind the bag at third. Two hopper to his right goes in slide standing right on the third base line and delivers an absolute strike to the chest of Spencer Tolson. No sweat. Hit this hard smothered Naylor the flip and Spire puts the foot down. That’s a really nice play by Josh Naylor. Spire doing a good job of not spectating and make sure he’s getting over there. That is a really hard play for a left-handed first baseman to make. Lined to short, caught by Ellie De La Cruz. Fired at first. It’s in time. Double play. Game over. An alert toss by Da Cruz as he cuts down Cruz and the Reds win two to one. I mean, hit hard by Gonzalez, but right at De La Cruz, and he’s the only one out there with the kind of arm to get the other Cruz, O’Neal Cruz, before he can get back to first base. Gets a line drive instead. Here’s Abrau coming on. He makes the play with a sliding stab. Athleticism to slide and concentrate. That ball in the air straight away center. Shallow coming on Chaz McCormick. He’ll make a diving catch. Chaz got a late jump on that and had to really recover with a diving catch and a nice play for the second out. Boy, he was going to catch that no matter what, wasn’t he? Yes, he was. Nico her to left field. Hamson on the move. He slides and Hamson is there to reel it in out in left field. What a play by Hamson to put it away for out number two. An outstanding effort. Cold into the game. 1-1. Alb’s in the air to right. Coming over, diving is Hernandez. And he’s got it. What a beautiful diving grab by Eric Berto. He doesn’t make that catch. It goes all the way to the wall type of movement. Shallow left. Lewis going out. Rooden racing in. Roodin will slide and makes the play. Boy, he ran a long way. to deep enough right field. Diving catch by Reynolds. A great job by Brian Reynolds right there making that catch. Blind drive and what a play by Sadon. He’ll throw him out at first. A Superman dive to steal an absolute 100% sure base hit. That is a beautiful play and a big one here right to start the fourth. Guriel on the move. Lurtis has got it. Oh, he reached out and grabbed it and was headed for the wall in left center and Guriel got to it somehow. Tip of the cap, wagging the finger for Lis right back up the middle. What a diving backhanded stop by Roio and they turn. An incredible inning ending double play. You will not see a better double play at a more critical juncture than that one. This one up the middle. And they got him. I did not think that was possible because of how well Lyle can run. The very fact that he could get this much on it doing a 360 and watch how high the release is. What a play. Uh-oh. That ball is deep. Proar at the wall. He brought it back. That was super human. Watch how high he gets up over the wall and not just up but deep for Jurgen Profar. And there is that milliondoll smile after the fact. He timed it perfectly and takes one away.

So many solo HRs. New rule: Walks without strikes must be doubles. I'm tired of seeing the best hitters walk; this is poison for the sport
Seeing a player make such a difficult catch, with so much precision and agility, is the kind of moment that makes you love baseball. ⚾️
I subscribed because I love baseball
In my opinion, the Denzel Clarke catch was better than Profar's catch simply because the wall in Angel Stadium's center field is taller than the wall in Truist Park's left field
Drug test Profar
The Mariners had a better deadline than San Diego.
