Dubious Dach Drama

Bad news, guys. Oh, no. No. I don’t actually have bad news. What I meant was that there’s dubious news being passed around. And I want to fill you in on it and kind of talk about, you know, responsibility and how these things kind of happen a lot. Let’s talk about it. Well, I got a specialty dessert that’s real good. I can make it. You got to get her there first. I’d like to pretend that I’m some sort of icon for integrity in the Habs community. I try to make sure that my sources are good and that when I say something, I say it accurately as not to mislead you. The thing is, I make mistakes all the time. In a recent video, I said that Adam Ingramstrom was a right shot D. I don’t know why I said that. I know that he’s a left shot D. I think I was just too tired and I confused Angstrom with Reinbacher in a moment for some reason. I also sometimes will make mistakes when trying to decipher certain aspects of the collective bargaining agreement. I try to stay away from that stuff as much as possible because I’m not a lawyer and I’ll be honest, I don’t understand some of that stuff and I have other quirks. I can’t say I say laval instead of laval. But I don’t go out and do those things purposefully. I do them because I’m an idiot. And that’s what I kind of wanted to talk about today because recent news about Kirby Doc has uh caused a little bit of stir online. Kind of like this channel and this community has over the past less than a year. We have 15,100 subscribers now. Didn’t take long to get another 100 subscribers. And I just I just really want to thank you guys. Uh you know, my whole family talks about this channel, about this whole fora into YouTube. They love it. It gives me something to talk about. I’m not a very interesting person, so it’s good to have anecdotes. And I just love talking uh with you guys, sharing common interests with Montreal Canadians and I guess video games, too. Thank you so much, video game appreciators of the music that I use in my videos. I really love that we found a subsection of Montreal Canadians fans who like Dragon Ball Z, uh, video games, The Simpsons, Trailer Park Boys. Happens all the time in the animal kingdom when you think about it. The dumb raikens and stupid birds and crazy squirrels pork pics that get hit by cars. And but enough of that. So what’s the scoop? Well, Maximum Kman is that whole man recently had some statements that went viral online. And he says, and I quote, “And you’d need more than two hands to count how many players have skated in Brousard over the last few weeks, but there’s one name we haven’t seen much of lately. Kirby Doc.” He goes on to say, “I hope we’ll soon see a video of him skating fast and effortlessly again.” So, that’s fine. He’s allowed to say that. But he goes further and says this. 5 months after his most recent knee surgery and about 40 days before the start of training camp, Kirby Doc is still not recovered and ready to play. Let’s just say the chances of Doc starting the season at the same time as everyone else in two months is still pretty slim, which is enough to worry those hoping to see the Canadians make the playoffs in 2026. Then Tony Marinara boosts Truman’s quotes. 5 months after knee surgery, Kirby Doc still isn’t ready and will likely miss training camp. So why do I have a problem with this? Well, recent reports from Jeff Gorton stated that Doc was ahead of schedule. It’s also technically been more than 5 months and he has been in Brasard skating with teammates. He’s also been out west skating with teammate Kaden Ghoulie. The point that I’m getting to is that this is a little bit dubious and it’s making some assumptions that I don’t love. I especially don’t love seeing certain community leaders perpetuating these rumors, but I kind of understand it. News is slow and you’re going to report on the quotes that you get. If an insider says something, yeah, maybe it’s newsworthy. Personally, I have trusted sources that I will quote from, but you also have to be kind of careful about what kind of language they’re using. And ultimately about this situation specifically, I think that Kirby Doc is going to be on time for the season launch. It’s incredible what these doctors can do. And come October, he’ll be nearing 7 months of recovery. So yeah, definitely on the early side of things, but again, it’s incredible what these doctors can do. Getting back to trusted sources, there was a little bit of news that I wanted to report on from a trusted source, but I was very keen on what language he used. Elliot Freriedman recently hinted at Lane Hudson inking a contract around $8 million, which would be bonkers. Incredible news. And I did see a few sites boost it. But I listened to the entire quote. I listened to the entire podcast that the quote came from and he was talking very loose about numbers and how the salary cap is going up and nobody wants to be a sucker signing too early. So what did I do? I said I’m going to wait on this. And you know what? I hesitated about making this video. And this isn’t me calling anyone out. Like I said, I kind of understand it. I’m sure there are plenty of you that like to hear the news whether or not it’s 100% concrete or not. I’m that way sometimes. I like to hear about rumor mill type stuff, but I want to applaud a few of the individuals in our community who said something something doesn’t smell right. Habs on Reddit was quick to show the footage of Kirby Doc skating with Ivan Demidov and Brousard about a month ago. Habs fans TV was quick to clarify the quote, saying that he may still be on target to make his return. Hab’s real fan, who is a follower of the channel, I believe, said it would be a real nice day if somebody would update from an official account. I also want to point out that Habs Digest was very loud about how dubious the information about Kirby do seemed to be. So, kudos goes out to Habs Digest. And it it was just really good to see the community kind of hold the individuals reporting on this accountable because as you know this community has the tendency to take something and just roll it into a snowball and let it roll all the way downhill. I will say this though, it would be very nice to get an update about Kirby Doc and exactly where he’s at. Did I want to say anything else about this? No, I think I think that’s it. I just wanted to kind of clear the air and I kind of thought this would be a good public service announcement for you guys. I remember I think I shared this story on this channel already, but I remember bringing my car in. I think it was for an inspection and the gentleman at the dealership saw my hat and said, “Are you a Habs fan?” Said, “A little bit.” And he said, “Did you see that Sydney Crosby might be coming to Montreal?” And I said something like, “Yeah, I think I saw that on Facebook. So, yeah, that that stuff it’s uh that stuff disappoints me. I had a great day today, guys. I just wanted to update you. I know that I’ve been talking a little bit like, you know, things aren’t haven’t been going that great. It’s just because I have this like a cloud hanging over my head. But you know what?   3. Your channel is excellent in its reporting and observations. I appreciate you don't speculate on rumours and give more credence to stories.
    When you think about it if your GM is not speaking to every team about players either side is interested in, he is not doing his job. So you could hear about interest being shown in any player by any team and it would be both correct and misleading.
    On Dach specifically, the Canadiens should announce in the next few weeks if he will be in training camp. There is enough chatter for his situation to be clarified. Being old and cranky, I suspect reports on his progress as Gorton and Hughes bet big on him and do not want to be wrong (who does). However as we are not that far from the start of training camp, they should have a good idea if he is good to go or not.

  5. I keep my expectations about Dach extremely low. If he works out then it’s a bonus. It’s a very physical league – it’s not just recovering; it’s getting stronger than pre injury

  6. I don't know if you remember Patrice Brisebois? He was a pretty good defenceman, yet, the poor guy was booed in Montreal every time he touched the puck. Some people seem to need someone to hate, unfortunately… I'm afraid Dach is becoming the new haters' target. Let's hope he'll stay healthy and perform well enough to silence his critics.

Because ONE player determines if the habs makes the playoffs? that guy needs to understand, yes it takes a team effort however it also takes understanding that ONE player will not be available right away and will need to pick up that players efforts. It's a TEAM "Montreal Canadiens" not a player "Kirby Dach" effort.

  17. I knew pretty much right away when I saw the report that it was BS. First of all, it came from a source that doesnt even cover hockey and has no reputation as a reliable source. Second of all, the "article" is written like a 15 year old gossiping to his buddies, and 3rd, he was basing it off nothing and we had evidence to the contrary! I saw in his article he mentions that someone saw Dach squatting weight that Trouman would be "doing himself at econofitness, not what an NHL player would do" like that means something??? Dude could've been doing warmup sets or any other number of reasons to be using less weight. His whole source is a guy in an Edmonton Gym like how is that a reliable or responsible thing to report on? and he also brings up in the article that his last social media post was in November of 2024 so that MUST mean he's trying to fly under the radar! Honestly I'm really upset with this Trouman guy. He has absolutely no journalistic integrity and shouldn't even be allowed to have a platform to spew such BS.

    My hope is I never see his name tied to anything Habs related again because it's clear to me he's someone desperate for clicks and without any real insight.

  19. Some use clickbait titles. One worry with this type of thing is how prospective free agents see the circus surrounding the Habs. Live streaming Demidov's airport arrival was a bit much, it was nice the kid got the impression the city loves hockey but still. As I said about the original report, Tony can go over the top at times.

  20. Okay, let's say he starts the season or comes back early in the season and then gets injured again and plays less than half the year. That's gotta be it for him, right? Are we really going to give another contract to a guy who's needed recovery seasons multiple times in his career that he's never been able to finish, and will need to spend the first year of his next contract recovering? If we get another 20 points from him in 40-50 games next season, we need to cut our losses and move on.

  25. My father believes every sports rumor he reads. He thinks even if it's not completely true there must be enough truth to make it true. He was shocked when the cubs didn't get Skenes at the deadline. Shocked.

  29. I've seen some Habs posts from people that have been absurd. "So n so traded!"… "No longer a Hab?" etc type stuff. Stuff so blatantly fake yet they have people falling for it on Farcebook etc.

  33. I know you have to be professional and I respect the fuck out of you for it. I also don't want to cause you trouble but I will say the thing I think a lot of people here are thinking… which is people with a platform like Timmy Rigatoni going off constantly with half-baked homerisms and crazy hot takes based on…. seemingly literally nothing but speculation… and the REAL WORLD effect that can have on players, the team. management, fans etc. is reckless and damaging. This team's greatest asset right now is the atmosphere and friendship they're forming as a group, this is a critical component outside of skill that a lot of successful teams like Florida have shown is essential to building a winning team.

    When Habanero and his ilk repeat rumors and speculation that could damage that (like Dach not being serious about recovery, still hurt etc..) it causes unnecessary drama and bullshit that could affect the players or team even. It's the duty of our people to report accurately so that shit doesnt happen and I respect you and others who do your due diligence so that we dont get this kind of misinfo running wild.

    Sorry for the edgy comment and not trying to get you catching heat from some bigger dogs… but this shit has bothered me ever since I started listening to Tony, for lack of better english first options for Habs coverage until I discovered the gems on Youtube like yourself and Hockey Psychology etc.

  37. Tom Brady was smart — took a full year and he came back better than ever. Kirby Dach must avoid being rushed into action before fully healed. He had a complicated ligament injury and ligaments fully heal much slower than bones. He should take all the time he needs —certainly shouldn't be pushed to rush back. He will be much better off if he comes back fully healed. PS. thanks for pointing out the summer gossip.

  41. Keep up the great work, Whiskey… There is so much hockey clickbait out there and it drives me crazy. "Rangers-Colorado BLOCKBUSTER DEAL!" or whatever, but it is really just some idiot who who is like "what if the Rangers traded Shesterkin for MacKinnon that would be crazy!" or some other absurd nonsense. It has gotten way worse over the last couple of years so I really appreciate hockey content that cuts the BS. Looking forward to seeing what the Habs can do this season even though I am a Rangers fan.
