🔴LIVE 🔴 Kansas City Royals VS Minnesota Twins/ August 10/ Baseball Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25

go in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Kansas City Royals taking on the Minnesota Twins. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. So, just about set now and on the hill in this one, Joe Ryan. Base runners are tough to come by with him out there, Chris. Well, he brings into this one an excellent strikeout to walk ratio on the season. And when you consider the amount of swings and misses that he gets, and the fact that he’s not issuing free passes, that’s going to make him more economical in his pitch count, allow him to move into the middle and deeper part of ball games. So, we’ll see if that remains true in this one. Mike Ystreky the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one. That’s outside and the count is 2 and 0. Inside corner at the knees for a strike. Just off the outside edge now. Three and one. That one misses. So a leadoff walk. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Now here’s Bobby Whit Jr. He’s sitting on 99 career homers. We’ll see if this is the moment to notch number 100. That one is absolutely belted. Going back, bangs off the wall. Coming home. He’ll score and the lead runner holds on at second base. Well done. Drives in the run. Just a very nice approach and swing right there to use the big part of the field. Everything was on time. He stayed balanced through the entire swing and just launched that one into center. Vinnie Pasquentino steps in for the Royals. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike for Joe Ryan. journey. So interesting when you think of a guy who started his college career at Cal State Northridge and then ultimately transferred to a division two school, Cal State Stannis Laws. Off the plate, two balls, no strikes. It was out of Cal State Stannis Laws that he was a seventh round pick by the Rays and then eventually got a chance to make his way through the Rays system and then was dealt for Nelson Cruz to the Minnesota Twins. Pitch misses and it’s 3 and 0. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Man at second and ball four, two aboard. Four pitches. That’s an easy walk, man. He could have walked me right there, boo. Last one wasn’t even close. Mike El Garcia steps in for the Royals. This is again five in a row. It’s great to get on the board in the first frame of the ball game, but here’s an opportunity for them to really open things up with a couple of runners on. Let’s see if they can cash in. That one misses. And that’s ball two. Tough spot right here. Couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Fought off foul. The 2-1 late with the swing there. I think he was sitting off speed there. Well, Boog early on in this one having a hard time getting settled in. He’s not showing control to throw strikes and let alone to throw it where he wants in the strike zone. This could be a tough one for him. Ripped into right center and that should be extra bases. One run across Pasquantino around third. Relay throw home. He’ll score. Two runs are in and they lead by three. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. swing and a ball popped up and there’s one down batting. And here now the lineup for the Royals in that cleanup spot. A key piece for this club, Mike Garcia. Well, right in the middle of this lineup and that’s exactly where he belongs. I mean, he’s there for a reason. Boog. this guy. They know they can rely on him and he’s a force, a presence there that, you know, puts a little trepidation in that opposing pitcher. We’ll see what kind of impact he has in this one. Adam Frasier in now. Takes ball one off the plate. Garcia the runner at second with one away. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Twins and misses. It’s a strike out. The high heat too much on that one. Jonathan Indie at the plate and first offering is fouled off. He’s a bad ball hitter. So even if you get him to chase pitches outside the zone, he still might beat you. Not an easy out by any means. Runner at second. Two down. Next offering is downstairs. And that’s in there at the knees. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one, two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Got him. Inning ends and that stops the bleeding. But three score in the inning, two of them on this two-run double. It’s now three nothing. Back in Minnesota getting the nod in this one, Seth Lugo. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a field difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Allan Rhoden leading things off and takes a strike. Well, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. And that’s in the dirt. One ball, one strike. So a foul ball makes it one and two. lined into left center. Base hit and the leadoff man aboard. Now the number two hitter, Matt Walmer. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. That’s a strike going one. Rudder at first with no outs here. Next offering misses and one and one. That’s a little bit low. Swang and a miss. Stays alive. Nobody out. Runner at first. Look out for the double play. That one ripped way back there. Gone way up into the upper deck. Into the second deck it goes. His second homer this series. And they throw a pair on the board. It’s 3-2. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. That one was a hanger. And pitchers typically don’t get away with making a mistake like that. And right there, he made him pay. Brian Jeffers at the plate and downstairs singing maybe some nerves getting the best of him in the first. Well, it’s hard to know exactly if it’s nerves or not, but he just doesn’t have it right now. Those hitters on the other side, they’re going to say it’s nerves and use that as a competitive edge to try to jump on him even more. Next one is off the plate and now two and 0. Lugo maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run. Chris, yeah, it seems that way. You know, guys, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch. They’re not trusting their stuff on the ground out to short. Whit over to first and that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. And now we take a peek at the Twins lineup. One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now, Matt Walmer. And Boo, he’s their team leader in home runs. So, you know, the pitchers on that other side, man, they took a lot of time preparing for him in that pregame meeting. You know, he’s got a lot of pop, and it’s real pop. It’s not fluky at all. He can absolutely change the outlook of a game very quickly. So, watch out when he steps in. Cody Clemens in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. One out. Base is empty. Next pitch is outside. After giving up that home run earlier, just doesn’t seem like he wants to challenge him. In for a strike now two and one. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone, middle away, and now it’s even up. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? Well, partner, every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused, and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track, and then you have a great show. Uh, so perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken up, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. And the slider just misses. Think he wanted that call in the upper part of the zone, but just didn’t get it. Now he’s just trying to get a better feel for how much it missed. So he can adjust his sights just a little bit. One down. Base is empty and down on strikes. Two gone. Well, even though he strikes out, he saw a lot of pitches and he battled. Plus, it gave the guys behind him an opportunity to see more from the pitcher. Not the result he wanted, but that’s still a good at bat. And the batter now Luke Kishel check swing and he went. And that is strike one. And a big swing and a miss. That one not close. Ball one. Two outs. Base is empty. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that is that. But not before they’re able to draw closer with this blast. It’s now a 32 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. And we’re back. Top of the second and to the plate for Kansas City. John Rave. Ryan back to work. That’s through there for a strike. Swinging a foul out of play. And there’s a ball. This one in the air. Gasper puts it away for the out. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. And now it’s Kyle Isbel. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. That’s off the mark. And that’s ball one. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. That split is a pretty nasty pitch. Explodes out of the hand. Looks like a fast ball and the bottom just falls out of it. That one called a strike and it’s one and two. You can do it. Yeah. swings through that and it’s a strikeout. That K is his third of the game. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide and what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is and that’s what leads to the strikeout. center field. Roden makes the catch in over. Nothing across here this half. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Royals three and the Twins two. Back in target field, here’s Royce Lewis taking high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. There’s the strike. clips the corner and the count is 0 and two. Gets a piece and stays alive. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the offspe pitch but just a little tardy on the fast ball. Fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put him away. Did a nice job right there. And now here is Brooks Lee right through there for a strike. Next offering is fouled back. That’s a ball. Too close for me partner to take that O2 fast ball, but for whatever reasons he let it go by. He’s still in the at bat. I don’t think he’ll let the next one go. make it four strikeouts in a row. Just cruising along. And now the DH Edward Julian now a screamer into the outfield. Isbel hauls it in to end the inning. Nothing doing here for the Twins. They trail it 3-2 and welcome back to the ballpark. New inning getting started. So up now for Kansas City, Bobby Wit Jr. possibly thinking about home run number 100 here. He’s just one shy of that milestone. Swaying in a ball hammered left field. hits the fence around first and hustling for second and he’s got his second double of the game. Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. That pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay. Runner in scoring position, no outs. And now the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino, worked a walk in his first trip to the plate and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Man at second and ball one up and in. And the count is two and two. keeps the attack back going with a foul ball. Pickoff throw. Whit back on a dive and he swings and lifts one to deep center field. Clemens going back on this one and it bangs off the out of town scoreboard. One run is in. And he’s out on the tag. Well, I think the base runner assumed that he was going to be able to make it to third pretty easily, but a really nice relay from the outfielder to the cut off man and they got him easily. Now it’ll be the cleanup hitter for the Royals. Mel Garcia. Looked like it was a little bit up. Garcia, 25 years old and he was born in Venezuela. Next pitch is outside. Looks like he’s being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up. doesn’t want to make another mistake. Swing and a miss and a count. Two on one. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. That one fouled off. Two and two. One out. Base is empty and a run in. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Got him looking. make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. I’m not saying it it wasn’t a strike or, you know, it was a ball, whatever, but just the location with that velocity, it’s hard enough just even if the velocity is not great, but that velocity, that location, tip your cap. Two out, space is empty, digging in. Salvador Perez and that is out of play. and he’s down 02 as he swings through it. Line drive, base hit. Zoe gets on base and keeps it going. back against the wall with two strikes, but found a way. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. So, a man at first. Here’s Adam Frasier. He’s 0 for one. That one finds the zone. It’s 0 and one. That’s inside. That’s a slider for a strike. Perez leads off first with two down to the inning. swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. They stop the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. Second base. Here’s the second base, Jonathan India. That’s off the inside corner. And that is ball one. That clips a corner. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Zebie Matthews warming up for manager Roco Baldelli. Two on, two outs. Foul ball there. Though Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens in the dirt but kept close. Two outs and a foul ball. He stays alive. Really great change of speeds. as he goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. On the ground, Keshel over to first that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. Two men left stranded, but they do push across one. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Royals four and the Twins two. Back in Minnesota, bottom of the inning. And now for the Twins. Mickey Gasper. Gasper. Twins. Ball one. No strikes. Next offering is fouled back and a foul ball. Here’s a one, two. battling here as he fouls it away. Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. Here’s the left fielder, Alan Rhoden. One for one with a single and a run scored so far. off the mark there. Ball one. And another ball. Edge of the zone for a strike. And it’s two and one on the ground to short. Could be two. One at second. Plenty of time at first. That’s a double play. He’s so good at coming across the bag and snagging it with the bare hand to throw. I like the flare that he brings day in and day out. So digging in Matt Walmer. He’s already homered here in this one. That misses and it’s one and0. Two down to right through there for a strike. Next offering is in for a strike. spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another on the ground to third. And that is the inning. Twins retired in short order. Still down by a count of four to two. And we’re back now. The left fielder John Rayiel just missed. Well, these Royals doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. Pitch count. This one swung on and hit well way back there. And that one is going to go. His fourth home run of the season. It’s 52. There was a fast ball down the middle. I don’t think the hitter recognized the pitch, but once he did, was quick enough to get it in play with some authority. He got that up and out of here. So up next, Kyle Isbel struck out swinging his first time in there at the knees for a strike. So they forced the starter to put in a lot of work and they’ve been able to get to him for some runs and hopefully that bullpin phone is working today. Always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. Clearly, he hasn’t had it in this game and looks like sooner than later they’re going to have to go to the bullpen. No question about this one. It’s out of here. He sends it into the second deck and they add a run. It’s 6-2. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I could feel that swing from the booth. Backto back jacks. And this club is fired up right now, Boog. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other. And the collective confidence just continues to grow. Here comes the manager out of the Twins dugout and he will make a move to the pen. Joe Ryan won’t go any further tonight and this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. On the mound now for the Twins, Zebie Matthews. Well, they didn’t get much length out of their starter in this one. So, they’ve got a lot of outs to eat up in that bullpen. I think they’ll look for some length out of him right here if they can get it. Back to the top of the lineup. Here comes Mikey to the plate. That one’s in there. 0 and one. Here comes the pitch. Now one and one and that one fouled off. Nobody on, nobody out. A pair of runs across in the inning. Top half of inning number four. Next offering upstairs. That’s down and in outside and that is ball four. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch and I tell you what, he earned that walk. And the batter will be the shortstop. Bobby Wit Jr. This guy is one of the best athletes in the sport. And first offering is fouled off. There’s a swing and a drive and it one hops the wall coming home. He’ll score easily. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Nice job going the opposite way with it, letting the ball travel and not allowing the barrel to hook around the ball. It’s so frustrating when you see a good pitch and your hands roll over. It was on the outside part of the plate and he approached it perfectly. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Pasquantino getting ready to hit. Just missed man at second. That’s in there. And that’s strike one. in the air left field down the line and it drops in. The run comes in to score from second and it’s an RBI single and it’s now a sixrun lead. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. And next up for the Royals, Mikel Garcia. That one missing inside. And a swing and a miss there. Pasquantino on at first. Nobody out. the other way. Pulls up on it and that’s a base hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Catcher Salvador Perez. Salvador Perez steps in for the Royals. Ball one and a pitch inside. Well, he’s just given up three straight hits and now behind in this count to this hitter. Might be a good time for somebody to call a timeout. Maybe the pitching coach should go out there and talk to him just a little bit. That one’s in there. And the count one and one. Just missed. Was a good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, you got a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Check swing on the 2-2. Appeal to first. Did not go. Maybe a two ball. Five, four, three. And they turn the double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Adam Frasier at the plate. Adam Frasier. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season, so they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. And first off is fouled off. swing and a miss and that’s strike two. He can live up in the zone all game if hitters will chase it. That’s just too much velocity. Hitters got to look down in the zone. Next pitch inside. Going to count one and two. That one to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 82. You’re dialed into the show. Back at target field. Here’s the catcher. Ryan Jeffers. Clearly down in this ball game and you can’t look at the deficit and try to get it all back in one swing. It’s got to come one at bat at a time. and even shrink it down smaller pitch to pitch. Make that guy on the mound work to get you out. That big curve inside a pitch that can buckle you a little bit. Looks like a fast ball out of the hand and then just drops over that inside part of the plate. Swings through that one. It’s a strikeout. Well, that event seemed to be over as soon as it started. Three pitch strikeout. You’ve got to be better at the plate right there at least to foul something off. Extend that at bat. Cody Clemens the next twin up to hit. He was a strikeout victim his first time. And there’s a foul ball. The one hard grounder into the outfield for a knock and they have their first base runner since the first inning. Now batting number 15 Luke Kishel the next twin up to hit. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. One and0 in the air right side. Yensky snags it for the second out. Now batting third base Roy Lewis. Royce Lewis the next twin up to hit. Went down on strikes his first time through. Two balls, no strikes to count. And foul ball. Two outs. comes up empty. That’s strike two. Two strikes. Let’s go Twins. That one missed. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score it. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. and a 3-2 and a swing and a miss. And that’s that. Twins wind up stranding one and it’s still 82. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now it’s the second baseman, Jonathan India. Matthews back to work. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. And it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases to second. Pulls him off the bag. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. So, a man aboard, John Raeve steps in for the Royals. He’s already homerred in this game at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Well, these Royals, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. They’ve been absolutely smashing the baseball. They’ve racked up a bunch of hits and eight have gone down for extra bases. Strike two. And eight extra base hits is a big number. And it’s pretty clear the offense is just feeding off each other at this point. Confidence is contagious. That one almost got him. One ball, two strikes. The count. That’s a ball. Runner at second. Nobody out. Next pitch misses way outside. Come on. Headed towards the corner. Roden on his way over. Makes the grab. One away. Here we go. Now batting the center fielder Kyle Isel. And now the center fielder Kyle Isel. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond. And this guy is at the top of the list. That pitch clips the outside corner and it’s 0 and one. Yeah, we go beyond just the, you know, fielding percentage and, you know, what it looks like, but the ability to have range and, you know, close holes that, you know, are normally there against an average defender, but this guy is special and you can see it in his first step quickness. Boo. And the one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn’t either. Hitting wise, you can struggle. You can lose your mechanics. But the thing that you line drive, base hit, gliding around third is India. The throws offline. He’s safe and they’re pulling away up by seven. Now we don’t see this a whole lot anymore where hitters with two strikes are willing to shorten up, tighten up, and try to hit the ball back up the middle other way. He was trying to hit that hole, I believe. Very good at bat with two strikes. Here comes the manager out of the Twins dugout and he will make a move to the pen. Zebie Matthews gives way and as he heads for the dugout. We’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. Now on the bump, Bailey over and he’s been hit pretty hard at times this year. So he’s looking for better right now. Giving up more than a hit per innie. Mike Estreky up here. Ober throws over Isbel back in on a dive. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Foul ball. Isbel the runner at first with one gone in the inning. Pace hit the throw in. Turn it save. And now second and third with one gone. Up next for the Royals. Shorts stop Bobby Wit Jr. And now Bobby Wit Jr. three for three and he’s come up with three doubles. Fast for a strike. Wit needs just one more homer to reach 100 in the big leagues. Yeah, and making it to a 100 homers would be quite the career accomplishment for him. Out of the more than 20,000 players to take an at bat in the majors, less than 5% have ever hit 100 dingers. This ball’s chopped on the ground. Throws to first in time. Out number two. And another run comes in. Vinnie Pasquentino digs in now. RBI not for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. Swing and a miss. And he was fooled on the mound. You take a note. You see the hitter’s willingness to chase that pitch upstairs. Get deeper in the count. Try to climb the ladder up the middle. The sliding play at short. Gathers and throws in the dirt. Great pick. Got him. What a play. Two runs, three hits, no errors, and one left. Home half of the fifth. Coming up, it’s the Royals 10 and the Twins two. This game’s a bit of a blowout. Singy, let’s talk about something random. Let’s do it. All right, Singy. In Ballpark Entertainment, you got a favorite mascot race? Yeah, I love what they do in DC with the former presidents. Somebody always gets tackled. They always get hurt. I know. And it’s just crazy. Imagine running around in those big bulky suits and somebody’s always going to go down. Do you remember when Tim Kirkin ran in the sausage race in Milwaukee? No, I didn’t see that one. Yeah. Yeah. They use one of the kidsiz ones. You know, this isn’t exactly a mascot race, but I love what they do in Atlanta with the freeze. swing and a miss and it’s two and one. I wanted to race the freeze at one point. I don’t think my hamstrings could hold up for it now. I feel like 5 years ago you could have handled the freeze. It would have been fun and I would bait you into it and try and get you to train to race the freeze and it just never materialized. Yeah, I would I appreciate that that you had enough confidence in me that I could beat a guy who looks like he was going to the Olympic trials at some point or another. But yeah, it’s always a great thing to watch there at Truist Park. Would you have worn one of those bobsled outfits like the freeze wears? No, that would have been too a little too revealing for me at this age. I feel you. Julian stands in now. looks at that one inside. Love how vocal the umpire is today. No doubt in the hitter’s mind, the catcher’s mind, and even the pitcher’s mind as to the conviction in the call. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another. And there’s a ball. And they’ll do it again. The Royals up big in this one. Last half of inning number five. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt. Perez on to first gets the out. Two down after the strike out. Well, I don’t think there’s a hitter alive that hasn’t at some point succumbed to that pitch right there. It just looks like it’s in the zone the entire way and then the top spin and gravity take over in the blink of an eye. And it’s just such a tough pitch to lay off of. Two down, base is empty. Mickey Gasper the next to hit inside and that’s ball one. Oh, you got to give him credit out there on the mound. This outing started off a little shaky, but he’s found a way to settle in and turned this into a pretty good start. kind of shows you a lot about his mental makeup as a pitcher. Next offering is fouled back. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Swang and a miss. Struck him out and good work there as he gets a one two three. Nothing doing here for the Twins and the deficit stays at eight. It’s 10-2. Back in Minnesota now the third baseman Mikel Garcia. The Royals. Third base Mikel Garcia. Minnesota and first offering is fouled off. Ober in his fourth year. He features a four seam fast, a change up, a cutter, a slider, and he occasionally uses a curve. Minnesota’s bullpen with some action. Number 62 warming up for manager Roco Baldelli. Thunderberg getting loose as well. That’s down and in. That’s hard hit on the line. Nice grab on the run and there’s one away. That was just a great jump and route to the ball. Well, it had to be. If he was going to cover all that ground and bring in that sinking liner, that’s the way it had to be done. Nice job, Perez in the box with one away as he takes ball one. Next offering upstairs. Base is empty, one away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. High-fly ball down the left field line. Rooden ranging back, gives up the body and makes the catch. Man, Boo, I love watching an outfielder take on the wall to make that play. And it’s a lot easier to watch from up here because that can be painful in the end. You know the wall’s coming up on you quickly. So you have to maintain concentration in able to make that catch and hold on to it after contact. Frasier stands in with two away as he takes a ball. Two down to that’s too low. Two and one. And that one is lifted in the air. Clemens drop steps, heads back on it, brings it in for the third out. And we’re back. Bottom of the sixth inning. And here’s the Twins leadoff guy, Alan Rhoden. Roden on the mound. He had a little trouble back in the first, but it’s been a different story the rest of the way. Really settled into this outing nicely. And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. Well, these twins just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. Chasing pitches has been a big part of the story. We’ve seen it quite a bit today. It’s been tough for him to make contact at times, and it just doesn’t look like they’re seeing it very well as a group. And on the mound, you know, confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings and misses. He’s had him eaten out of the palm of his hand pretty much all game. And now one and two. One ball, two strength. Good job to fight that one off. Breaking ball inside. It’s two and two. Ripped in the air left field and it’ll touch down for a base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Nice. Up next for the Twins, Matt Walmer, the next twin up to hit. Get another one. And first offering is fouled off right through there for a strike. Roden aboard here at first with nobody out. Twins. Swing and a miss. struck him out with number nine for him in this game. Nine. Gosh, here it is. Hit it. Three pitch strike out. All fast balls. Man, he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch right now. Jeffers in the box now. No balls in a strike. Activity in the bullpen for the Royals. Noah Cameron getting loose out there. Shriber getting cranked up as well. Come on Twins. The 1-1 is fouled off. That’s two. Two balls, two strikes. in the air center field. Isbel settles underneath it. He’s got it and there’s two down. Up next for the Twins. Center fielder Cody Clemen. So man aboard Cody Clemens the next twin up to hit. One for two. Ball one there. The Twins with a lot of ground to make up here in the bottom of the sixth. Swing and a miss. And the count is one and one. Man, he was really tardy on that fast ball. Great job of setting him up by throwing the curve ball. Add some velocity to it on the next pitch. Can’t catch up. puts it in the air out towards left center. Ray sizes this one up and makes the grab. And that is that. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. We’re through six full. It’s the Royals 10 and the Twins two. We go to the top of the seventh. Here’s the second base, Jonathan India. Jonathan India in the air left field and it’s caught for the out. Almost a loud start to the inning on that first pitch. Man, he’s going to want that one back. No doubt. John Rae steps in for the Royals. You can do it. First pitch just misses. And another ball. The Royals up big in this one here in the top half of inning number seven. Next offering in there for a strike and it’s two and one. And that one popped in the air left field. Two down. Now batting the center fielder Kyle. Two out. Space is empty. And to the plate for Kansas City. Kyle Isbel. Twins. Drilled in the air high and deep right field. That’s back there. Caught just shy of the wall. So, the Royals bring on a new arm, John Shriber. Compared to some days, this is a pretty low leverage appearance for him. So he should be fairly free and easy out there. Still have to keep yourself sharp and attack the strike zone. Now it’s the second baseman Luke Kishel 0 for two in this one. That one’s in there. Strike one. That one fouled off and ball one really good take especially with two strikes. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and one away in the bottom of the seventh. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Lewis up for the third time and takes ball one. Hit hard on the ground to short. whips it to first and a couple of quick outs. Fast ball groove right down the middle. Usually a lot of damage done with that pitch. A hard grounder, but he wanted to get that ball in the air, maybe drive it into the gap. So, two down now and here is Brooks Lee towards first. Pasquantino takes it himself and it’s a one, two, three inning. We’re in the top of the eighth now. Here’s the leadoff hitter for the Royals, Mike Estreky. Ober back to work. Just missed. And it’s fouled away. The one to one. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. He was all over that one. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. Man at first and now the shorts stop. Bobby Wit Jr. a little bit high. Ball one. Lifted in the air right field. And there’s one down. So up now for Kansas City, Vinnie Pasquantino. Outside low. Ball one. Man at first, one away. Come on, Twins. That pitch gets the corner and it’s a ball and a strike. Squirts away a little bit in there safely. So, a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Really good read by the runner there. His secondary lead. He anticipates the trajectory going down and gets a really nice jump up to second base. Now he’s in scoring position and he’s taken away the double play opportunity. the 2-2. Next offering is outside. One out and a runner at second. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. That one is back. One hops off the wall. Should be extra bases. The run comes in from second and they now lead by nine. Now batting third base. And next will be the cleanup hitter Mikel Garcia. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that is ball one. That one catches the corner for a strike. Runner at second here. One gone. Not even close there. Two and one. Swanging a ground ball throws to first in time. Now batting catcher Salvador Perez. Salvador Perez will hit next. Let’s do it twins. And first offering is fouled off. Pass Quintino at third with two away. That misses the zone and it’s one and one. Chopped left side and that’s just foul. And that’s downstairs and outside. And down on strikes he goes. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. So they pick up a run on two hits. No errors and a man left. Last half of the eighth. Coming up, it’s the Royals 11 and the Twins two. Back at target field now it’s the DH Ed Julian Julian. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Swang in a line drive. Base hit out into center field. So runner aboard to start the inning. Now batting next to switch hitting first baseman Mickey Gasper. Gasper. That one clubbed out towards left center. That’ll be extra bases. Lead runner touches second, headed for third. Coming home. He will score. Went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages, working on going to the opposite field, and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly. Back to the top of the order. Here’s the left fielder Allen Rhoden in there and it’s 0 and one. Yeah, that’s fouled off. in the dirt. Blocked and an excellent job keeping it right there. No outs. Runner on second. Ground ball left side. Tosses to first. One gone to the bottom of the eighth. That’s what a good sinker is designed to do. Get a guy to roll over a little bit. Hit the ball on the ground. Kill some worms while you’re at it. And now the right fielder, Matt Walmer. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. In this situation with first base open, he shouldn’t give him anything to hit. There’s a right-hander on deck. Ball one low. One out and a runner at second. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Gasper around third. Throw is offline and he scores. It’s 114. And now the Twins catcher Brian Jeffers. And that one cutting but missing down low. check. Swing went around. That’s strike one. I got one ball, one strike. Still only one out here in the inning. And that’s in for a strike. One ball, two strikes. Highf fly ball out towards left center. Ray calls it in. Two away. Up next for the Twins, center fielder Cody Clemen. And next for Minnesota, Cody Clemens, one for three. Check swing. Did he go? Yes, he did. And he’ll one right through there for a strike. He’s trying to stay away from this lefty knowing that a lot of left-handers like the ball down and in. Two outs. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch. Bows it back with two strikes. Walner the runner at first with two gone. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And that just misses. Cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. They get two runs on three hits. No errors and one left through eight full. It’s the Royals 11 and the Twins four. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Cody Thunderberg. Well, he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to him. Adam Frasier steps in for the Royals. Adam Frasier. And there’s the strike. Thunderberg in his second season. He throws a cutter, a slider, a sinker, and he works in a change up. And that one pulled foul. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit and the leadoff man aboard. Good two strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for some. So that was nicely done to beat the odds. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Next to hit, Jonathan India. That’s in there. Going one. They say it went two strikes. Next offering is down low. Some movement in the Twins bullpen. Number 62 up and loosening in the pen. The Royals up big in this one here in the top of the ninth. Stays alive. the one two and that’s outside. Ground ball right side could be two. There’s one back to first and it’s over his head and this ball is going to wind up out of play. Well, an error like that, you look at the scoreboard and you kind of wonder if they are losing focus out there. And look, it it can be tough to stay locked in when you’re getting blown out. We’ve all been there. And I’m not saying that’s definitely what happened on this play, but it’s not a great look. Now the left fielder, John Raeve, and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Strike two. Two strikes. And that skips in the dirt. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. Now two away. So digging in Kyle Isel Kyle Isel. There’s the strike. That one finds the zone and that is strike two. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the walls. Going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. So one left for Kansas City. They lead it though 11 to four. back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Hunter Harvey. He pitched yesterday and we’ll see him once again. Here’s the second base, Luke Kishel. 0 for three in this one. Number 15. First pitch misses. And there’s the strike. Big at bat right here. He did the team thing. Took until he got a strike. Now he’s got to go to work. Shorten up that swing a little bit. Do whatever it takes to get on base. tapped softly on the ground. Garcia throws to first. One up, one down. Up next for the Twins, third base, Roy. So, up next, Royce Lewis 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. That one in there across the letters. Base is empty. One away. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. And that one is downstairs. One ball, one strike. One ball, one strike. That’s inside. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. The Twins with a lot of ground to make up here in the last half of inning number nine. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Now only one out remaining. I love to see guys compete and I know he’s frustrated that he wasn’t able to do anything with that pitch. You see it so well, but you have to respect the upper 90s velocity. Man, it is hard to catch up to. Lee in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Next offering is fouled back. Harvey is just one strike away. Right through there. Got him. That finishes the evening’s action. Offensive explosion today for these players. They gave up a few runs, but they had more than enough firepower to turn this one into a blowout. Final score in this one, 11 to four. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB The Show, I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
